The Tiger Rising was a dark story - ambiance and elements. But I loved it so much! One of my top books ever. And one I want to read again. DiCamilllo’s Louisiana was first introduced in DiCamillo’s Raymie Nightingale (Which was a National Book Award Finalist just like The Rising Tiger!). In Raymie Nightingale, there are three girls. And the third girl Beverly also has her own book. So it’s kind of like a loose trilogy. There’s a few references to Raymie and Louisiana’s in Beverly’s story. So best to know Louisiana in Raymie first 🤓 . Orphan’s Island is pretty good. It’s a 2017 National Book Award Longlist. You’re right about it being a coming-of-age. I’m not sure if you’ll need to explain to Jam about what happens to a girl in coming-of-age biologically though. Happy reading!

@Brian S. Hello. You seem to know about books. Do you have a blog or somewhere to find your recommendations? If not top 5 books with male lead for 7/8 year olds. Nothing dark or scary please.

@@KoalaKrafts Hello! 3 books came to my mind right away:
The Year of Billy Miller by Kevin Henkes (one of my top favorite authors! And this book won a Newbery Honor, and it has a companion book!),
Hello, Universe by Erin Entrada Kelly (again, one of my favorite authors, and this book won the Newbery Medal!),
then Pie in the Sky by Remy Lai (one of my all-time favorites!).
My runner-ups would be Liar and Spy by Rebecca Stead and Full of Beans by Jennifer Holms (Although the character Beans shows up first in Holm’s Turtle in Paradise).
Amazon rates these books starting from 8 years old. Check the reviews for these books 😀
