Has anyone tried oak meadow distance learning
@@shawnwells926 I have not tried it.
Hey sweet mama...here listening. My little one is still in second grade but always love learning about what is to come. 🙏☺️
@@seasonsofwonder hello and welcome. I’m glad you’re here, even if your child is younger it truly helps you prepare for the future. I wish I had thought to look in UA-cam when my son was younger!
Our quarter sounds similar to yours! We hit a wall with IEW S&S with my kiddo asking for some time away from it. We're leaning into some creative writing this next quarter, but still using OM Eng despite Catherine, Called Birdy being a tough one for us as well. I wasn't too bummed when he came to me and asked to move on. We put it down about 3/4 of the way through too and wrote our own ending to wrap up that unit :) Looking forward to hearing more about the note taking course. It has been in my cart for a bit and I haven't committed to purchasing, but it is an area I would like to see my kiddo improve. I always appreciate your updates!
@@antlersandgills wow! Sounds like we’re living parallel lives this year! I’m glad to know we weren’t the only ones who just couldn’t get through Catherine, Called Birdy. I’ll have my notetaking video up very soon!
Would love to see how your tackling note-taking! First year homeschooling my 8th grader and he's never had to take notes! I switched my 8th and 4th grader to Oak Meadow a few weeks ago and I'm so glad I made the leap, it has been so great for all of us!
@@elisabeth... hello! I’m so glad to hear Oak Meadow is working out for you and your family. I’ll definitely be sharing how we’ve done notetaking this year. It’s our first year focusing on note taking and I think it’s been a great help!
Hi! Such a nice video! I love your voice. You sound so calm and positive. My son is also 7th grade, 12 years old. Your son sounds a lot like mine - hard to start school in the morning, gets distracted a lot. What we figured out is to do math first thing in the morning, before breakfast. He does math much faster in the morning. Then he has an hour on the computer. I know it is not going to work for every family but this is what works for us. Computer motivates him to not procrastinate with math. After that we do read aloud/reading and walk, or walk and read aloud/reading. Then, the rest of schoolwork, usually after lunch. I’m very interested to hear more on note taking. Would you also share how much work your son does independently. Good luck!
@ hello! Thanks for watching! I love that he is motivated to do math in the morning with help of computer time after. The only time I feel my son is motivated and doesn’t get as distracted is if he will be meeting up with friends after his work is done, then he is able to focus and get it done. I wonder if a little computer time would help motivate him too! As far as independent work, he does spelling, grammar, and all assignments independently. I help him with learning the material before the assignments. He used to read the lessons himself first and then I would come in, read, and discuss it with him before he did the assignments but that was taking too much time, so now we just read it together. The note taking video should be up very soon.
Send all the curriculum books by post please so I don't have to by them thanks
@@Bob-d7r1v 😅🤣
I love the idea of doing a history tour at the end of the year! I might try that with my guys this year.
Hello 😀 Thanks for sharing. I know that this is an old video. But, if you remember what did you do to look for the glossary terms that we need to look in almost every lesson? Thanks in advance for your help.
@@ivelissebouet9563 hello. It has been a long time but if I’m remembering correctly we used a dictionary. We had a Webster children’s dictionary at that time and I truly believe that’s what we used. I hope that helps. Thanks for watching!

Great, thank you for this video! Do you still use this program? I see you posted this video two years ago. How good is his typing mastery now?
@@ml7363 hello. We do still use this program. His typing has come a long way since. We have a hard time being dedicated to things on our computer and if we were more consistent in doing the program I believe he would have mastered it by now. I will say, he does know where all the letters are and is pretty proficient but I wouldn’t say he’s mastered it yet!
Thanks for sharing!
@@BaileyAcademy thank you for spending some time watching my video!
My middle schooler really enjoys Phonetic Zoo! We went with the budget pack and I just read the rule to him once or twice and then I start reading the list and every few words I circle back to the rule. The teacher booklet usually has more helpful hints/exceptions I add in as well. I hope it works well for you guys!
@@elisabeth... I’m so excited to hear your middle schooler enjoys Phonetic Zoo. My job is to figure it all out this weekend and start next week. Thanks for sharing how you’re using it!

Love ❤️ your hauls! Ms.V is ta😊king a Graphic Novel Class with The Bookish Society, it starts this week and the 1st book is The Monkey King and the World of Myths.
@@WhimsicalFamilyLife thank you! I love that she’s doing a graphic novel book club, so much fun. I hope they both enjoy the Monkey King!
Wow, your space looks great! I love all your built-ins. I can definitely relate about science projects getting done late LOL usually we get to them a week or sometimes even two weeks later. Thanks for sharing.
@@PlannerHomeschoolingMom thank you! Yes, not having the materials for science labs in our house means they’ll definitely get pushed back and we’ll do it when we’re well done studying that unit 😅
@@howweschool LOL sometimes I have all the things we need and still don't do them.
@@PlannerHomeschoolingMom lol. Yes, this also happens here 🤣 But if I has all the items there’s a better chance that I’ll do it and on time lol.
We are doing a trial period of Oak Meadow for my 4th and 7th graders from their samples, I think it will be a great fit for our family! I wanted to buy it in May but the cost scared me off😂 I ended up piecing together various curriculua and probably spent close to the same as I would have just going with OM. But we aren't happy with most of our curriculums! The trial and error period can be so expensive and frustrating😂
@@elisabeth... it’s so hard to find the right curriculum and sometimes it works great for a while and then seems to not work anymore. We keep Oak Meadow as our spine. Everything we do is tied in somehow to the lessons in there. I will say, it is pricey but I’ve tried to go without it and spent just as much if not more. A lot of the extra books we add in can be borrowed from a library and there are plenty of crafts/hands-on projects one can do with household items! I hope you find the curriculum that fits you and your family!!
@@howweschool I like the idea of using OM as the spine and then adding in extras as needed. I have 3 kiddos so I'll at least get my money's worth out of it😂 I know we want to continue using Curiosity Chronicles(we started with a different history curriculum and quickly realized it wasn't working for us) so it's nice to see you also combine and OM and CC!
@@elisabeth... CC is our favorite history curriculum to pair with OM. It does mean (especially in the older years) that we cut a lot of the meat out of the curriculum but we always do at least the audiobook! We love the audiobook. We find the chapters that coincide with what we’re learning and go from there. With three kids you’ll get your money’s worth with anything you purchase that you like! Sounds like you’re working on having an amazing year!
@@howweschool I was so excited about the audio book! I have a toddler so finding time to read out loud can be difficult😂
@@elisabeth... I only have one and the audiobook helps me out so I’m sure it’s helpful with multiples and a toddler!
Those built-ins are amazing! Love the set up!
@@elisabeth... thank you, these built-ins are a huge positive for this room. It’s just about complete in here and ready for its close-up!
Lucky you winning a dk book. Also a free one and cheap one. Dk is awesome. I love local used book stores
@@BaileyAcademy I felt so lucky winning a DK book and it’s the one I wanted to get for this school year!!! Finding one at the used bookstore was the icing on the cake!
Is the price 60 something for 5 years or for each year or for each month???
@@tc5028 the current price is $67 for 5 years. It’s amazingly reasonable and we still only have good things to say about this program!
@@howweschool yippy! Thanks for your reply :)
@@tc5028 you’re welcome! I hope I’m right on my answer but from what I recall it is for the five years and a great program.

I've heard great things about Denison Pre-Algebra. Alternately, maybe Math Mammoth 7? Also, I love chatty videos. I just put them on while I'm folding laundry or doing dishes!

Wish there was an option to triple Like!!! Renovation is so hard. I’ve been there. Congrats for making it through!
Thank you! Sometimes I really feel uncomfortable saying how difficult it was for us to school during home renovations, as I know it’s such a small problem in comparison to really problems, lol.
So happy when I see a notification for a video from you! I don’t mind the chattier ones! It helps me be super productive! I can fork laundry or make dinner while listening/watching! So chat away! Love hearing how your year went. Your trips sound incredible! Will you please share what people suggest for pre-algebra? I’m having a hard time wanting to continue with OM level 7 math with no solutions manual.
Thank you so much! You’re the best 😊 I love chatting away but I know I can go overboard, lol. I also often watch other UA-camrs while I do housework and do look for longer videos when doing housework. I’ll need to find a balance. I’m hoping we get some pre-algebra suggestions! All the solutions for the OM level 7 are in the back of the student workbook. You can leave them there or rip them out so that you have them. Hope that helps!
We had the solutions to Om 6 (super old version) but it doesn’t show HOW the problems are solved. So I had to spend time reading the lesson, and working problems if she got stuck. I think that will get harder and harder 🤪
@@kellydugan7553 correct, it doesn’t show how to solve the problems. I usually read up a week ahead because of not he’s going to learn that I don’t remember half of this stuff, lol. It would be great if they showed the how.
How did your school year go?
We had a great year! We switched math programs (to Math with Confidence) for my younger two a few months into the year, so didn’t finish their current level, but it was such a great fit for all. I was thrilled with how independent my oldest could be with assignments!

@@kellydugan7553 I’ve only tried OM, beast academy, CTC, TGTB, and Evan Moor. Now I wish I would tried Math with Confidence. Jam just liked OM math so we stuck with it and didn’t try very many others as to not overwhelm ourselves, ON worked and we stuck with it. I’m glad this worked so well for you guys!!
