Thank you @StuffWriter! Where would we be without you? 😊 I am a proud Pennsylvania Native, living in Colorado, so I can't get back to Gettysburg much. I have to say, next time I go, it will be during the Winter Lectures. The motorcycles would absolutely ruin my mood during a spring or summer battlefield walk. Thank you again!
My GGF, Michael Carroll Hennessey rode with Morgan on his Ky raids and the Ohio raid . He was in Chenault's11th; captured during Ohio raid; imprisoned Camp Douglas , remainder of war..Hennessey was born in Ireland and penned a song about Morgan's Christmas raid.I have the song's lyrics if you are interested (free). GGF rode a Denmark Saddlebred which did not become jaded for a long while..
I live 30 mins north of Cincy and have driven the John Hunt Morgan route from Indiana out to Buffington Island read a couple books yada yada...it's very interesting stuff. I really enjoy Matt's presentations on the civil war. While he did a great job landing on his feet with missing two pages of material, I just wonder what all we missed out lol. Good stuff.
The John Wayne question was a trick question - he never played a Confederate soldier. In Rio Lobo he was a Union Soldier (prisoner) who was forced to wear a Confederate Uniform
I think the implication is that he was also one in True Grit. He named his cat Sterling Price. Could have missed a line somewhere though. He is a confederate veteran in the searchers.
The numbers don't match up on the troops after Nelsonville??? Where did they all go ? They split south of Nelsonville and rode into the West ... There was a heated battle just west of old poston station . Cannon against Cannon their faster stolen breech loaders quickly won !!!
I absolutely love Matt's lectures!
Me too

I always appreciate you sharing our history with such knowledge and understanding . Thanks as ever
Was he not a Confederate veteran in The Searchers?
@@skyjac92 I think you are right - I was thinking of rio lobo where he wore one but wasn’t a confederate
