- Ranger Matt Atkinson leads a walk covering Joseph Robert Davis' brigade on July 1.
Ranger Atkinson and the NPS hold the rights to the notes and lecture.
I was on this Battle Walk. Really fun and interesting.. Thanks Matt and Stuffwriter!
I don’t know if each park ranger writes his or her own narrative for the tours but these men and women rangers are each wonderful guides. They’re to be commended.
I rewatch these videos many times. When I lived in area there were few guided tours available. I’ve appreciated every video Stuffwriter uploads since physically I can no longer get there. The NPS does not do much if this anymore. Probably budget restraints. Thank you Stuffwriter
I was there! It was getting a little worried when we approached the two hour mark and I thought it would be over. Luckily Matt went way past 2 hours 😏
Matt Atkinson is a pleasure to listen to keeps you interested and makes leaning fun.
Paul Stan I listen to his battle field walks several times. I also enjoy his participation in the winter lectures. His information is dispensed with humor. History shows s people not dry fact. Making the soldiers and leaders human is even more heart wrenching at times. He paints word pictures.
I have always wanted to see the park but I know I will never live long enough to do so thank you for these videos at least I can watch them
Stuffwriter!!! I've missed your uploads. Glad you are back
Matt rules. All guides are really good, but he is the top . I love this man deeply, cos he brings history to live. God bless Matt and his wife Angie.. One day I will come from Germany to visit this ground. Deo vindice and god bless amerika

YES!!!! YES!!!!!! I am geeking right now. Missed your videos and have been rewatching them
Lol .. i feel ya bro
Been waiting all year for These videos to come back!!! Matt does a wonderful job!
@StuffWriter Thanks for posting this. I need to get back to Gettysburg and take a few tours. Gotta love Ranger Matt's charming Southern sense of humor.
So glad to see smattered Atkinson giving tours. He’s one of the best. Thank you for uploading this video.
Should say MATT ATKINSON
Thank you so much for these videos from a ACW enthusiast since a boy in the UK. Was always a Johnny Reb. Thank you Matt Atkinson I love your lectures stay safe.
Lol I like Matt alot, been watching for a few years now. I'm a history major out of NKU, served 11 years in the Navy and Army, did 4 navy and 7 army. I get a kick out of watching you all. Gonna try and come up one summer to see you all! Also wanted to tell you all, a really great civil war game to try out is War of rights
Pettigrew`s NC Brigade had just joined Lee`s ANV in May. In April of 1863 they were in eastern North Carolina in Greene County guarding bridges near Hookerton&Snow Hill NC. They were part of the reinforcements Lee gathered before invading Pennsylvania. The 26th NC Infantry Regiment was the largest regiment in either Army@Gettysburg with about 950 men. They were decimated at Gettysburg.
I’m from Greene county and didn’t know that. That’s really cool! Thanks for sharing!!
I would love to see Ranger Atkinson do a battle walk of the First Minnesota and their involvement in Gettysburg sometime. Thank you, Stuff Wrighter for your videos. I find them entertaining and informational.
Ross Olson Stuffwriter also tapes they winter lectures at times. I e tried to find the 2019 winter lectures but cannot so perhaps weren’t taped
Thanks again StuffWriter, learning and enjoying. Lucky You
The knowledge about the Skirmishers and their role in the Battle at Gettysburg well it helped me while playing Ultimate General: Civil War. I had previously abstained from using professional Skirmishers or a dedicated skirmisher unit in previous play throughs. The campaign I invested in dedicated sharpshooter skirmishers I lost 15 - 20 % less forces in every battle due to the increased battlefield awareness and how surprisingly good small units were at hiding on the flanks and inflicting large amounts of chaos with the range they had over normal infantry. Dumb but you learn things at times and use them at others. Thanks Matt always love getting my historical itch scratched during your lectures. Also as a side effect sometimes you help me with Civil War Strategy games just by being so detailed.
Man when I finally can afford to go to gettysburg I want matt to be my guide you learn and have him entertain you at the same time I find him hilarious
Thank's very much to you and Mr. Atkinson for this. Love your videos.
I paused halfway through this video to talk to my parents, then learned that I missed seeing them on this video! I was just listening to Matt and doing some house cleaning (albeit with some Gettysburg maps and references out) and wasn't paying enough attention to the audience I guess lol. Stuffwriter, your uploads are greatly appreciated by those of us who don't have the opportunity to visit more than occasionally!
Seth Maxfield ❤️❤️❤️
YES! I have missed Matt's humor (basically pretty good dad jokes) all winter long!!! Let him know we are standing by for more! Thanks stuff writer!!
Matt... You’re awesome! Thanks for all of the great battle walk/ talks.
Matt,
Thank you for continuing to allow us to go on these journeys with you!. You are giving voice to these men who fought so bravely for their cause! In a time I fear our generation is losing sight of our history, It is my sincere hope these uploads will be continued...
Sincerely,
A lot of standing around and yada yada yada show THE terrain MORE!!!
Sloop John be 1966
My mom and dad took us to the tours, around little round top.. Bloody run... It helped my history. Learned a lot about Civil war..Thanks!!
Heres a little memory game/tip that helps me remember Army structure... Corp Division Brigade Regiment or more simply (C)louds (D)o (B)ring (R)ain....
Watching these is like receiving a line from home.
I was at Gettysburg on Wednesday and wish I could have seen one of his talks. I'll certainly be back to spend more time.
He's back!
You are back!!! Yes!
Yay, and an extra long episode!!!
I learned much from watching Matt in this video, including the 'New Minglewood Blues'. Matt always drops some music history in.
Thank you sir for doing more of these
I enjoy your talks Matt and humor. I love to make a tour in person some day. Love to hear the break down of each unit.
I really enjoyed your knowledgeable talk, and your wonderful sense of humor.
Just found this again good job ranger Atkinson. Sky so blue that day. Looks like a tough tour through the grass and weeds. He identified the one tube as having been used T the battlefield. Thank you again Stuffwriter
I was one of the people who thought Matt was dead. Another gentlemen and I were trying to figure out where you guys were because we were told verbally that the talk would start at the corner of Reynolds and Buford. Thanks for uploading the presentation though!
StuffWriter thank you so much for your video's. I am so happy to be able to see these and experience them as I most likely will never be able to myself. I do have a critique and its in the most respectful way, please get a tri-pod as at times your screen shot isn't favorable. Again and most importantly, thank you for all of these videos.
Thank you Matt and Stufferiter. Learn history in a good way.
I had just went to Gettusburg for my summer vacation! Such a beautiful battlefield!
you don't know how much I've missed these
Hidilian bless stufferiter for videos of all the various rangers
Matt Atkins is a legend 🙏🙏🙏
Great video stuff & Matt.. made my morning after the school run enjoyable!! Cmon next Wednesday !!!! when im back in gettysburg!! Woohoo!! The most boring part will be when i have to sit and watch the wizard of oz wednesday night at the majestic with the family.. :/
Mike DEEZ maybe there’ll be an extra reel at the theater about Matt and his battlewslks
Fantastic, as always!
Just read Lieutenant Drennan's Letter and it is awesome. Can't wait to get out to GBNMP soon. Thank you for these wonderful videos!!! Will be traveling from ND,USA!!
Really want to travel to the US and visit these places man!
I have missed Matts battle walk videos! Would love to see a full video of McPhersons Ridge, his last one was cut short I believe.
My great great grandfather was in the 42nd Mississippi, Company E
This is awesome. A good friends Great, Great Grandfather served in the 55th NC and was wounded in Gettysburg. I share this with him.
Thanks for the link. Henry was wounded in the leg at some point during all of this chaos. Then again during fighting at "The Wilderness" later in the war. The 55th was there as well.
I visited Gettysburg, and spent one night there. The next morning we woke up to the sound of taps. They were reburying the solider that the gentleman spoke of here, who had recently been discovered as his body began to emerge from the ground, at or near the railroad cut. It is my understanding that his hand, and/or arm, had been spotted sticking up from the ground.
Bullshit
Calling bullshit. There are no records or articles about any remains found at or near the Railroad Cut in your time frame. Don't be a liar and a narcissist.
🤡🤡🤡
Damm stay on point..
I was one of those Rebs at Spangler’s Spring, and we are all about fighting for our “rats!”
@@kenanacampora the democrats enslaves them, and democrats destroyed them by welfare policies
I laughed at price of Cashtown Inn over one million dollars. I wonder if that includes their ghosts
Nothing changes. Good officers. And bad officers and losses
Stuff writer,
Great videos, but I'd suggest spending the coin for getting a mic on the park rangers, sometimes it's pretty hard to hear the rangers, especially when they turn away.
Meyerisms turn up the volume. Sound is fine
Hey StuffWriter, are you going to be filming Matt's July 4th campfire talk on regrouping the ANV post-battle?
There should be a tv show comedy of sorts based on Tge NPR rangers and the tour groups. Some are funny
These tours are priceless
I wonder what the Confederate and union armies and leadership would have done against another countries army if there hadn't been a civil war. I mean these two armies didn't play and I honestly think they would have given any other country in the world at that time a run for their money
Vault Boy good question. Fighting techniques were the same
High time you banned vehicles from the battlefield site...!..
aodhfinn look at the map of the battlefield and the town, it’s very spread out-would be impossible to do
Some of these battle walks go a bit off the actual NPS property too
@@tylerjerabek5204 ...yes ..I understand the scale of the battlefield....but...it is a site of huge importance and deserves respect , as do the presentations of information by the excellent guides. With in mind both that and climate change couldn't a shuttle bus service be offered , and after all , don't humans , have legs to walk !.. Most of the men that died there ..walked there ...( Shuttle bus system the answer ) .Thanks for the reply ...Great tour . !
Many of the roads service the community so banning traffic is impossible. The vehicles on park roads I don’t know about. Noise level is high at times
aodhfinn I have legs but they’ve been useless to walk on since birth
Shuttle service could help some, but again, look at maps of the parks to see the sheer size. Most battlefields are in or near towns, the NPS will never be able to acquire all the land of each battlefield but please support efforts to keep acquiring land.
The battlefield parks are receiving fewer visitors every year. Hopefully they will still be there for future generations
@@marymoriarity2555 ....Well heck, why didn't they just ban the weapons in the 1860's, this war would never have happened....Just use your sword and various silverware utensils.
All through this program, Matt keeps saying the troops bluebellies & Cornfederates are having a tough time seeing their enemy. I wonder if any soldiers wrote about the weather( winds, temperature, clouds or not). Sounds like the winds were calm.
Like the content but I know what Matt looks like can't you show the terrain and maybe zoom in on features
I hope Stuff writer keeps on posting videos. Of all the ranger talks. It’s so appreciated by those who can’t visit Gettysburg anymore. I’m not find if the town. It’s a tourist trap. With mindless restaurants called Picketts charge. I’ve seen ignorant tourists in the battlefield especially teens dumb as ticks trying to climb monuments. I feel no pity for anyone hurt on them. Stupid is stupid. Tgey don’t care that men died there 150 years ago. People who take digs in battlefield walks are in idiot category also. It’s where men fought and died it’s not a dog park. Do they do same things in national cemetery? Quite likely. The same idiots who hunt for orbs.
i can understand your words of stupid people at natural parks. look...america has a giant % of population who are dumber than dog doo, have zero intellectual ability to understand deep ideas, and are unable to feel more refined emotions such as reverence for the dead
Good God ALmighty what's going on with the camera work? Is he or she filming from an elevated hospital bed? Does this person suffer from occasional vertigo?
These videos are hilarious....Looks like the camera person is short....they could use a tripod, and then they could pan around smoothly when he makes turns...That one guy behind the ranger is doing it right, he has monopod
@@maryjones4770 The person obviously has a medium heights tripod ipod and thought that they could just film everything from one set position. But then it turned out that they kept having to move the tripod around over uneven ground swivel it again to keep up with Matt who keeps moving around as he ought to be. Just goes to show that you can't use cheap equipment shoot at the height of somebody's genitals to make a piece in video
Are you serious
Extremely well done talk. The ability to tie together details impressed me. Sees nepotism was rampant jn both armies. With political generals in the Union Army plus people in the Southern forces seemingly not supporting Lee it was a wonder they weren’t all killed at Gettysburg. Some had seen the Union troops at Gettysburg but the idiot Hill refused to believe it. What a waste!! Stupid generals idiotic subordinates worn out infantry. They had already lost-before they got to Gettysburg. The Union had more guns and more men. Lee was s good man but was an idiot responsible for the massacre of thousands
12:38. Anyone notice??
Evidently none of us noticed anything at 12:38, even after you brought our attention to that part of the video. Will you kindly share with us what it is that you observed at that point?
Butterfly.
UFO travelling from right to left, apparent size diminishing as it goes. I can't identify it. It's definitely flying, and sure seems to be an object (as opposed to a glare or reflection) Also, a moment later, a bird falls out of the sky near the object's track. This could be fun. Maybe Mars is keeping an eye on Matt Atkinson!
The whole thing takes less than 1 second, and the bird falls 11 seconds later, at 12:50, falling right behind Ranger's hat. Could be a meteorite. Was able to zoom in and get screenshots, and a couple of them are really strange looking .

Who is Travis who seems to be in various tours ?
Mary Moriarity I believe he’s a Park Service intern
@@tylerjerabek5204if he was an intern he'd be in a uniform.
Matt is informed and engaging, as usual, but the camera work is really poor. Is this an official video?
stflaw it is a guy being nice for us to enjoy his walks. Let’s embrace the awesome
Matt Atkins is a dreamboat 😘
StuffWriter needs to put a darn filter on so he's not microscoping every pore.
We have noticed that Confederate officers are always photographed wearing tailored, braided uniforms and fancy boots. The Confederate infantrymen are shown shoeless and underfed. This denotes extreme class and wealth differences.
Also general supply issues of the Confederacy, which did not have near the industrial capacity of the North to produce enough goods to supply all of its armies. Foraging was practiced heavily by all armies, especially the Southern ones.
Camera operator is shooting sky again.1:10.
John Wayne Gacy wasn’t the nicest to get along with. Ted Bundy was. People say he was one of the friendliest people you’d ever meet.
Cigarette smoke smells like freedom Matt? Freedom for who? What does clean air smell like to you??
Stand here stand there,.....,. Blahhh
Too much home-spun comedy from Atkinson.
Are you autistic? If you don't like the humor and Matt trying to engage the people on the tour, then just stick to reading books or watching Thomas the Tank Engine.
Civil War stories are best told in Southern accent
Hahaha
He’s back!
