What a great interview. Kudos to Stamp Active for their work. So many kid-oriented philatelic efforts are scattershot and half-hearted. Impressive to hear that they have managed to retain and develop some collectors even right through the troublesome teenage years. Also interesting to hear of the new criterion, 'you don't have to even own the stamps'. Some gatekeepers would clutch their pearls at the very idea, but lateral thinking like this will be crucial in evolving and preserving the hobby. Nice one CwP!
Great interview gentlemen. I am trying to put young kids to philately by showing my stamps....and they like it. After 50 years, I have a couple of stamps. I am in conversation with Graham Beck and other philatelists. I listen to your shows on youtube too. David
Hey Roger! We’ve been incredibly busy and been unable to record a single episode, but our schedules have loosened and we have an episode coming out this Monday!
I am more and more convinced the traditional idea of trying to get kids excited for stamps collecting so they create their own classical exhibits may be not the only path to success. Allow me to suggest a different, albeit potentially controversial concept: Would it be an idea to teach kids about forgeries and have them take quizzes with a mix of genuine and forged offers eg on online marketplaces where they would have to spot the forged stamps, overprints, cancellations etc ?
