Some Very Compelling Evidence the Tower of Babel Was Real

- Biblical scholars have long debated whether the Tower of Babel really existed. Now, a remarkable stone tablet never before shown on film appears to settle that question.

I love the narration!
Babylon oh YEAH!!! Kinda narration
I agree, like some born-again salesman
chichiboypumpi what’s that?
Tower of babel is found in the book of Genisis. Nebecanezar was many centuries later. Ninrod built the tower of babel.
I love how they assume Nebecanezer built it just because he's shown posed with it...that could mean a thousand things from giving it his blessing, to showing off his surroundings.
@MysteryFan At ~2:25 it literally states: "The man behind it...King Nebecanezer the second" Or is that just you in some fantasy that you've dreamed up?
@James Skeptics also dismissed Troy until the city was uncovered. Poseidon and Apollo are real.
@Tejas Misra even a skeptic on the Bible should view it the way historians view Herodotus. They know not everything he said was accurate. But it's still a valuable source of information

The narrator could make a life or death situation out of brewing a cup of tea.
And if by magic... SUDDENLY... Almost out of nowhere... THE WATER... Boils!
Nice
LOL!
The kettle element with over 2000 watts of power heats the water to temperatures only life near hot springs at the bottom of the ocean would survive. The water violently boils and dangerous scalding hot water would spew from the spout if not for the auto cut-off device. The teabag is drowned in the hot water and begins to bleed.
Thats what i was thinking
people have been building towers for thousands of years. it seems odd that this particular tower mentioned in a tablet is associated with the one from the story. especially if the tablet doesn't mention everybody spontaneously speaking in different languages. one would think that is something fairly sigificant to mention about such a tower.
Perhaps the biblical story is merely allegorical, or it's original rendition was mistranslated slowly over time.
@@courtadbobtail600
A year late I see, but at any rate; One of the strengths of scripture was the numerous copies across various groups, languages and cultures that actually kept one another in check. If someone popped up with a new bit of scripture, every other group could compare it to their own and point out the counterfeit. Case in point, the dead sea scrolls and Septugant were a branch of the original scriptures recently rediscovered and when compared, found there was very little if any difference. The differences can be contained in about a 20 minute video. Namely some things like a city was remarked as X, but in the time of the story it was actually named Y, but a "helpful" scribe changed the name to something people would understand contemporarily.
That's how we actually know what the errors or questionable parts of scripture are; Cross referencing copies.
it doesn't say in the bible when the tower was built, I think that people are just assuming that it was built after the flood but when precisely??

The story of the Tower of Babel is in the book of Genesis, which means that it takes place CENTURIES before the birth of Nebuchadnezzar II. If this tablet is describing a temple built by him, it is DEFINITELY NOT describing the Tower of Babel from the book of Genesis.
The tablet reads "the Tower at the city of Babylon" not "the Tower of Babel"
it's almost as if the Bible account was written around or after the time of Nebuchadnezzar - like how Holywood makes stories from history a bit more exciting by inventing anachronistic story elements 🧐🤔

@@chrisc9755 if you think there was an actual tower, you miss the entire point of the story.
Nebuchadnezzar II did not BUILD the Tower of Babel. His own records affirm that he used the original foundations of the original tower, to build a kind of memorial tower. Nebuchadnezzar wrote that the original tower had been built in antiquity: "A FORMER king built the Temple of the Seven Lights of the Earth, but HE DID NOT COMPLETE its head. SINCE A REMOTE TIME, people had abandoned it, without order expressing their words. Since that time earthquakes and lightning had dispersed its sun-dried clay; the bricks of the casing had split, and the earth of the interior had been scattered in heaps." [emphasis mine]

Something seems a little "off". And when I say "off", I mean like 1600 to 1800 years off!! Nebuchadnezzar lived in the 6th century BC, whereas the tower of Babel, and the subsequent confounding of languages, took place circa 2200 to 2400 BC!!
I noticed that same thing, thanks for pointing it out.
As well, this tablet doesn’t match with the Biblical account. They said that the account on the tablet states that Nebuchadnezzar II brought together diverse people when the Bible makes it clear that the people were already gathered together in Shinar. Ziggurats existed after the Tower of Babel, and this is just one of them.

The Tower of Babel is simply inspired by an actual monument. It's like if you had a future civilization, coming up with the story of a mythical tower inspired by the long gone Burj Khalifa.

I always approach biblical archeology by a secular channel with skepticism and they never fail to dissapoint. The tower of babel was constructed centuries, if not millennia before king nebuchadnezzer.
This video says the inscription was from around 600 BC, but the Biblical Tower of Babel was several centuries after the great flood, which was about 3,000 BC. (Give or take a few centuries) Whatever ziggurat the inscription referred to either was not the Biblical Tower of Babel, or was not the seventh century BC ruins the archaeologist described.

It may have been that Nebuchadnezzar built ON the original tower, fortifying it…as he did with other Babylon structures (i.e., canals, walls, etc) that existed before his time.
The Biblical account tells that Noah's grandson Nimrod built the tower, though Nebucanesser was probably trying to take credit by rewriting history. Either that, or the tower depicted is not the same tower.
The bible, written by man, was written centuries after that tablet was made, so the tablet speaks the truth. It was Nebuchadnezzar, not anybody named Nimrod.

The tower of babel took two days to walk the circumference of. It's much larger than people imagine. This was written in either biblical or dead sea scrolls or another historian, I read it and immediately took Google earth and mapped an area to the equivalent of two days walk. It's very large. Consider the entire world was united in building this.

And there is an ancient tradition where Buddhists walk around "Mount" Kailash in 3 days. This 6.6 km tall "mountain" also looks like a pyramid. And if 1/3 of the Tower of Babel is left, this would have made the Tower [Pyramid] of Babel taller than Mount Everest.

King Nebuchadnezzar doesn’t appear on the Bible until the book of Daniel which is long after the events in Genesis 11.
@@kaydenpat He didn't say that King Nebuchadnezzar built the Tower, nor did King Nebuchadnezzar say that he built the tower. The Smithsonian is lying to you (as always). The King had actually rebuilt (or renovated) the original structure. The Smithsonian can never be trusted:
I am Nebuchadnezzar, King of Babylon … my great lord has established me in strength, and has urged me to repair his buildings … the Tower of Babylon, I have made and finished … the Tower of Borsippa had been built by a former king. He had completed 42 [cubits?], but he did not finish its head; from the lapse of time it had become ruined … the rain and wet had penetrated into the brickwork; the casing of burnt brick had bulged out … Merodach, my great lord, inclined my heart to repair the building. I did not change its site, nor did I destroy its foundation platform; but, in a fortunate month, and upon an auspicious day, I undertook the rebuilding … I set my hand to build it up, and to finish its summit. As it had been in ancient times, so I built up its structure ….

Isn't this more likely to be the Hanging Gardens? The timeline doesn't match up for the building of the Tower and we know he built the Hanging Gardens, and we know it was a tiered square structure like this from historical accounts. The inscription doesn't say it is the Tower of Babel, it says the ziggurat of the city of Babylon, which could be any temple within the city, and could totally be the Hanging Gardens.
Pretty sure we already know where those are though, and this is a different thing.
The ziggurat is a different place and known
There are currently no tablets or steeles detailing the building of the hanging gardens but there is plenty of evidence indicating that first Nabopolasar and then Nabuchadnezzar rebuilt the Etemenaki Ziggurat along with temples, palaces and defensive structures in Babylon and elsewere. The foundations of the Ziggurat of Babylon were identified in 1899.
You are correct in that this is not the Tower of Babel. They're off by well over 2000 years.

Believe in me and seek me for discernment you so-called and self-proclaimed Christians. He who abides in me; I abide in Him. If I do not abide in you, then you do not know the truth. You will be forsaken in your pride and lofty desire to elevate yourself above others. I say unto you; seek my wisdom; close your door and pray in secret to your heavenly father. It is through His spirit that you are given knowledge and discernment. Do not scoff and mock your fellow members in the Body. You are to pray for the lost, love your enemies, and pray for those that persecute you. Have I not called you to lift up one another and give service to one another, especially those of the Household faith? Ye who mock and scoff to one another and do not seek your Heavenly Father will fall under wrath. My prophets know me and I know them. Seek me for knowledge and truth; do not suffer me to bring my wrath upon you. My son's atoning work shall surely save your soul. Be of sound mind for these are the last days and the season and hour is upon you. I proclaim to you, GET YOUR HOUSE IN ORDER! Probably a lot of people these days aren’t religious and don’t believe in God :(

Nebuchadnezzar didn’t build it, he rebuilt it after it was destroyed
Exactly. The Tower of Babel story dates back to ancient Sumeria, so if Nebuchadnezzar II did build this one then he was likely inspired by the original. He was no stranger to grandiose architectural projects: it was during his rule that he commissioned the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, one of the ancient wonders of the world, as a gift for his wife.

So a lot happened before Nabuchanezzar came to power, the slate this guy has, could’ve just been a depiction of how great of a architect the King was, since that was one of the things he was known for. One of the oldest Bible stories, along with countless others, turn out to be historically verifiable, yet the narrator says "A lot of people still think about it in Biblical terms as some sort of legend" ---essentially equating 'biblical' with merely legend. So, I guess when historical evidence is found for a Bible account, it loses its Biblical association and origin and becomes historical and the Bible goes on being merely legend and gets no credit. You just have to shake your head. It just demonstrates that some people choose not to, and will never, believe.

I wondered the same. Its what happens when an unbeliever tries to explain the bible. Nimrod and his host built Babel, not Nebuchadnezzar. While Nebuchadnezzar may have built something, its quite different from Tower of Babel. So I think they simply found something else.
It was a tree..!! The idea that the tower of babel was a man made structure is the myth..

Babel is two words of bab (gate) and el (ram). Babel = Ram gate, like in the sign Aries (Ram) at the spring equinox. This is where the gods proclaim "Let there be light." Aries is the head aka first sign of the zodiac. Heaven is entered at Babel aka the area between the two ears.
@@harveywabbit9541I don't understand
wait didn't the whole tower of Babel happened, according to the bible, way before Nebuchadnezzar? He existed way later when they were conquered by Babylonians. I might be wrong but this all seems contradictory.
Well, this channel is claiming that it's the same thing. It's probably just a depiction of the legend of the tower of Babel, as there were Isrealites in the palace during that time, surely the legend got passed around.
Yeah, that's what I was trying to figure out. I don't understand how they can claim this when the Bible says that Babel happened farrrr, unknown far, longer before Nebuchadnezzar. I'm Christian and I really don't get this.
What is undeniable is that the tablet depicts the Tower of Babel and an account of its construction identical to the biblical city. The tablet dates to the 6th century BC in Babylon, and so naturally depicts Nebuchdnezzar II on the relief. Whether or not this reveals he is the constructor is unknown, he could simply be on the relief for the sake of being on it, or he could be the constructor, or he could have repaired it.
Unfortunately, for Christians who take the bible to be literal, many stories from the Old Testament when they were written down were re-telling someone of current events, to convey certain meanings. They were NOT and never intended as historical accounts. Some were set in history to link together separate events to create a parabolic or allegorical meaning.
It only seems contradictory because the Bible and its latter day inherents require to to be true, just the way the shepherds wrote the story. Flush that stuff.
Hold up: The tower of Babel is referenced in biblical literature far before nebacunezzer. 🤔
Likely not built by nebacunezzer and just shows him because he was the greatest ruler of that time.
Much "Biblical literature" can only be verified from the time of the Babylonian Captivity.
Look up the city of Eredu. It was known as a pre-Babylon by the people’s that came after it so it was also referred to as Babel
Nebuchadnezzar was a title, meaning something like king or ruler, as I understand it. So there may have been many Nebuchadnezzars.
Either they're incorrectly identifying it, or it could just be the fact that the Bible wasn't meant to convey historical accuracies but rather spiritual truth. Either way, they should've had the narration reflect the differences.
You can fire your arrows from the Tower of Babel, but you can never strike God!
NEOZ ah i see your quoting the great ancient mutante apocalypse.
It would appear that although the tower of babel was constructed thousands of years prior to king Nebu, and this video is hyped, it could also be said that it would seem possible to consider that king Nebu had a definite interest to rebuild the tower of babel...attesting to its ancient authenticity as even recognized in antiquity.
"Professing themselves to be wise they became fools" ... it was Nimrod who built the tower of Babel
People who reject God can never believe His Word to be true as that would give them a problem. Just as those who believe the religion of evolution do not need God. If God is thrown out, no amount of evidence for creation could be accepted as they insist on rejecting the creator. They will all find out I the end if God was right of course.

@Joseph Lisitza "languages were diverse"... but were a people who spoke one language all transformed into speaking many - at once - "long before the tower was built"?
@Joseph Lisitza Yet how does 1 language turn into many? It makes more sense to me that YHWH and some of his angels stopped the creation of Babel and diversified the language of the people there than 1 language just somehow manage to be 20+ others.
Action Man “... that they may not understand one another’s speech.”
It’s not that they were all of a sudden speaking different languages than they had before.. it’s that no one could “understand” one another, they could not hear eachother out or really listen to one another enough to find understanding.
It’s happening again right now, people can’t listen and try to find understanding amongst one another... so quick to jump to presumptions, or pre-loaded conclusions and judgements. There’s a lot more to the Tower of Babel Story than just a building.

If a soccer player who hasn't scored a career goal in 10 years scores 10 goals all of a sudden in a season, of course we will be suprised.
It's even funnier because while the evidence actually points to the fact that indeed there was a "tower of babel" built in ancient Babylon, that still doesn't corroborate as evidence for the myth itself (the Bible's account).
since you may struggle to comprehend what I am saying.
there were a couple of pyramids (towers) built during that period but the oldest and the one usually being referred to as the "tower of babel" was built around 2650 BCE and "babylon" hadn't existed yet. In fact, nebucadnezzar only came into power some 2000 years after this pyramid was built (1100 years after hammurabi had built babylon)Babylon.
The mere fact that there is a tablet with the drawing of a pyramid and nebucadnezzar on it still doesn't prove that nebucadnezzar built the pyramid often referred to as the tower of babel. It's literally impossible for a man who lived around 600 bc to have built a tower some 2,000 years prior.
This "proven" history of the Bible is more of like a satisfaction of your confirmation bias.

Nebacanezzar was much later than the Tower of Babel.
Nebuchadnezzar II was born in 634 BCE and died in 562 BCE. The name ‘Nebuchadnezzar’ has its origins in several different languages, mainly Tiberian, Akkadian, and Hebrew. The name itself means “Oh God Nabu, defend my firstborn son.”
The reason why Nebuchadnezzar II was so popular and revered in the Babylonian world was because he was by far the most powerful and longest reigning king, sitting on the throne for close to 50 years. His rule lasted from 605 BCE until 562 BCE, the year of his death. Timeline fits for him to have built it.

King nebuchadnezzar existed 2000 years after the Tower of Babel.
Cross Shepherd.
Not according to this bud...
Scholars agree that Genesis was written around 1450 BC-1400 BC. So technically, the Tower must of existed WAY BEFORE Nebuchadnezzar. Maybe Nebuchadnezzar fixed it up and claimed it was his handy work.
The Etemanaki was rebuilt by Nebuchadnezzar after Sennacherib destroyed it. It existed long before him, he wasn't the first constructor.
It's known that basic traits of the story of the tower were told & also written down even before the Bible, and long before Nebuchadnezzar lived. So that itself would suggest this video is wrong? The tower was real, but this is not the one.
This is, with all due respect, a “well, duh” moment-and the Tower of Babel has been known to be real for millennia.
doesn't make any sense, since the tower of babel, was order by king nimrod? not king Nebuchadnezzar II.
The tower of Babel was the central ziggurat of the city of Babel. Since major Mesopotamian cities were almost always built around a ziggurat, by definition the tower must have existed long before Nebuchadnezzar II. Like any ancient structure, the tower would have been built and rebuilt over time. Kings would have expanded or reconstructed the tower either because they needed to repair it or just because they wanted to leave a legacy. Both Nebuchadnezzar I and II authorized modifications to the existing tower, in the case of Nebu II to the extent that he basically rebuilt the tower.
The point the video is making is that the depiction of the tower in the bible corresponds closely to the one that Nebu II built. This kinda makes sense when you consider that the Hebrew bible was compiled after Cyrus returned the Jews to Jerusalem. At the time of the writing of the compilation, the tower the writers would have known of would have been the Nebuchadnezzar II tower. It must have imprinted itself in their psyche because Nebu II was the one who took them into exile in Babylon.
Andrew Suryali ugh! nice pivot from truth. willfully blind sums you up.
Exactly what i though. Nebuchadnezzr II was waaaay later than the tower of babel. Nimrod was over it
The Book of Jubilees states that the Original Tower of Babel mentioned in Genesis 11 was a super structure that took 12 months to get a brick to the top. The project took 40 plus years when God abrieviated the height by burning off the top 1/3 and dropping the bottom 1/3 straight down into the ground leaving the mid section. These folks need to study and do Proper research before speaking foolishly and forking out false and misleading information. Nimrod built Kingdoms and raised up all nations of the known world to a cause so great God Himself had to bust that party up. This is why we have many languages and why the continents are split.

The Bible Narrative is only 9 verses long and gives very few details. In fact, the Bible says that Babel was part of Nimrod's Kingdom, (Genesis 10:10) but does not say that Nimrod ordered the building of the tower.
Every city/state (including Babylon) in ancient Mesopotamia had a ziggurat which was topped with a temple as home to their particular patron god. The one in Babylon happened to be the largest which was torn down (it was in disrepair) by Alexander the Great.

This was probably just describing a regular temple.
Tower of Babel would have been taller than just 7 tiers
Compared to local buildings at the time seven tiers probably would've seemed massive though.
Building with mud bricks, 7 tiers would have been as high as they could go. And you can see in the start, that the bricks have collapsed and the rain has made many wash into each other as mud piles.
Maybe a zigurat from sumerian times?
According to religious scriptures the Tower of Babel reached the Heavens/skies. So it had to be somewhat of a skyscraper
@@NobleWolf33 The intention of those building it was that it would reach the heavens, but they were scattered before the building was complete. Additionally, "reach the heavens" was probably not meant literally, but in a similar manner someone today might say, "touches the sky."
