Enjoyed this interview. Around 21:00 she describes how she would approach a scripture that didn’t make sense to her - that was great. And I appreciated her thorough description of using different interpretations of the Word to help understand it - excellent points ✅ (and I so agree with her view about the Message translation!) Her love of Scripture shines through.
I think focusing on the most quoted books in the Old Testament by the New Testament is helpful: the top 10 books most quotes being Psalms, Isaiah, Genesis, Exodus, Deuternomony, Leviticus, Jeremiah, Proverbs, Hosea, Zechariah...... another way is looking at the 10 that move through the old testament history first... Genesis, Exodus, Numbers, Joshua, Judges, 1 and 2 Samuel, 1 and 2 Kings, Ezra , Nehamiah... than read the other... it helps me anyhow
Good summary by Cynthia Jones Lots of wise advise. By increase of liberal views, I think you mean theological liberalism bringing in skeptisism about the Bible, not political.
The Luke 4 text is what the Marvel super hero Luke Cage was named after. It goes back to Lev 25, Is 61, Ps 107, 146, 147 - The work of Messiah :) I love where the Messiah 'shall heal the broken hearted"
Any serious student should learn to read the koine New testament papyrus from 125ce to 310ce.This is before church added 1John 5:7-8 and hundreds of other changes to the original Greek and Hebrew bible(Tanakh) Scriptures. No Christian bible used today matches original Greek or Hebrew source's.There are hundred s of variant versions. Watch Tenak Talk channel for more in depth discussion s on this subject.
I noticed that the duet that the Hebrew Israelites quote is different from the Deut in the Greek Septuagint... Why is that? Who changed it, when and why?
When you read be aware of the genre... many people read the bible from Genesis straight through and that's fine... realize Genesis and Exodus are story..... then speed bump Leviticus is more like a thematic book on holy worship and holy living... then Numbers, Deuteronomy back to narrative story. Many people hit Leviticus and get lost. It's important Generis only uses holy once in the seventh day, Exodus about 60 times, Leviticus about 90 It is meant to at the center of the books of Moses to show what holy looks like
@@DJ-uc8mk Genesis is real history and told mostly in narrative (aka story form as a literary genre )i and sometimes with a narrator. By story i mean a historical non-fiction. Jesus refered to the narrative portion as 'God said' Jesus of course refered in historical terms to the real people Adam, Able, Noah, Abraham, Lot's wife who, turned to David, Isaiah etc etc...
