- C.O.W-boys of Moo Mesa
Artist: Billy Dean
Composer: Verlon Thompson and Billy Dean
Year: 1992
Production companies: Ruby-Spears Productions, Greengrass Productions, Gunther-Wahl Productions, King World Productions
Distributor: CBS Television
In the 1800's, a mysterious comet hits the U.S. southwest, transforming the local cattle and animals into their own version of the old west called Moo Mesa, complete with several lawmen dealing with bizarre outlaws. The series focuses on trying to keep justice in the frontier territory. The lawbreakers were too much for the corrupt regulators of Cowtown - Mayor Bulloney and Sheriff Terrorbull - to handle by themselves. Helping them out, whether they wanted it or not, were a group of peacekeepers known as C.O.W. Boys, short for "Code of the West." Led by bull Marshal Moo Montana, the C.O.W. Boys also included the Dakota Dude and the Cowlorado Kid. The muscle-bound Marshal and his deputies had their hands full with various ruffians and outlaw gangs that plagued the otherwise peaceful town.
The series has been released on DVD.
Lyrics:
Comet raised a mesa to the western skies
With the sound of a thousand cattle drives
A chosen few would see the light
And fight the wrong with right
Up on the mesa
High above the clouds
There's a world apart from all the rest
On Moo Mesa
Live the real cowboys
Standing up for law and order
And livin' by the code of the west
Cleanin' up the territory
Keepin' evil on its toes
Takes a different breed of riding, roping, brave heroes
On moo mesa
Live the real cowboys
Standin' up for law and order
And livin' by the code of the west
On Moo mesa! - Розваги
This is actually a pretty catchy theme song...
iolper86 Next to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles theme song.
turtlelover789 And DuckTales
This theme song kicks total ass, especially for a cheesy 90s cartoon
Fun Fact: real-life country singer Billy Dean actually sung this song. That's probably why it sounds so good.
If you don't know who Billy Dean is, you might be familiar with some of his songs like We Just Disagree.
Not pretty. IT’S A VERY CATCHY SONG!!!
Great intro for a great show that actually had a good story too. The COWboys struggled to keep law and order on the Mesa in spite of, and sometimes directly against, the corrupted system that ran the place. The problem was that it fell to "toyetic syndrome" where instead of being able to focus on a storyline, they had to keep introducing new characters to sell toys. I think if this show got a TMNT-like reboot it'd be pretty popular, especially seeing that old west shows pretty much don't exist anymore.
It sucks that this show only lasted two seasons and we never heard from it again until now. It would be nice if they made a reboot of this on Netflix, but without changing too much where it becomes a disgrace to the original source material like Teen Titans Go, PowerPuff Girls (2016), or even that god-awful Thundercats Roar. This shows needs a reboot without making the same mistake of introducing new characters just to sell toys and instead keep focusing on the storyline since there should be more animated shows and movies set in the Old West.
If they done a reboot I'm afraid they would just ruin it the way things are now
Ask and ye shall receive(soon)
Problem was that pretty much every cartoon of that era was essentially a 23 minute toy commercial interrupted and padded out by breaks for even more toy commercials.
This show is nostalgic for me. I loved this show when I was a kid, I used to have a crush on Marshall Moo Montana and Colorado Kid
This was one of my favorites too
i want a full version of this song so bad i could scream...
Something like this?
Comet raised a mesa to the western skies
With the sound of a thousand cattle drives
A chosen few would see the light
And fight the wrong with right
Up on the mesa
High above the clouds
There's a world apart from all the rest
On Moo Mesa
Live the real cowboys
Standing up for law and order
And livin' by the code of the west
Outlaws think that they can keep up the pace
When the law comes to put them in their place
With the code of the west they'll be set straight
and shown why they're second rate
Up on the mesa
High above the clouds
There's a world apart from all the rest
On Moo Mesa
Live the real cowboys
Standing up for law and order
And livin' by the code of the west
(Harmonica Solo)
Cleanin' up the territory
Keepin' evil on its toes

On moo mesa
Live the real cowboys

And livin' by the code of the west
On Moo mesa!
The concept of the show actually makes a lot of sense now.
I told my Dad about this show, and he was like: "Wait, so it's cows raising cows?".
But as the video description explains, the characters in the show were ordinary cows before they were hit by a comet which mutated them into humanoid cows.
That makes sense.
I'm here because I have fond memories of this cartoon from my childhood.
We need more theme songs like this now a days
Catchy and unique to the show
Also a minute long
I miss minute long theme songs
A-freaking-men to that..good, high energy cartoon intros just vanished at some point and I don't know why.
It never felt like a whole minute either, cuz it was so good
This show is so so so weird but it's got an incredible opening.
This show is actually nostalgic to me.
That harmonica always gives me nostalgic chills.
I almost thought this show was a fever dream until I found this intro again. MAN this takes me back.
Loved this cartoon back then
Toons of today aren't nothing compared to the ones back in the days
This show deserved much better and should have gotten two more seasons instead of being cancelled too soon, when there was so much potential and left everyone else's stories unfinished.
if you are old enough to remember watching this as a part of your early Saturday morning routine, you're my kind of people XD
This show was just soo damn good for what it was lol I didn’t miss one episode and now I wanna try and find the series if they sell it. If they do I’m deff buying it lol
I still sing this theme song
Wow I thought this song was written and sang by a no-name (but good) band like a lot of 80's-90's cartoon themesongs were. I didn't know it was written and sung by an actual famous country singer. I tend not to like country music, and I never actually watched this show growing up, but I find that fact really impressive.
Nothing beats getting stoned and stumbling upon this
Billy Dean singing the intro FTW
Holy fuck how good is this song?
My brother and I grew up watching this. Oh such fun memories.
Having just watched this TV show introduction for the first time, I will admit, the song is fantastic and sounds like authentic country music!
That's because it was co-written and performed by Billy Dean, who had a string of hit country songs in the 90's.
@@feralart That's very interesting. Billy Dean did a good job on this opening song.
@@CEO100able it makes me think of his song Billy the Kid, which was him reminiscing about roaming his neighborhood and playing cowboys as a child.
@@feralart You are right; it sounds like a song with fabulous similarities in a way. Both of them are excellent!
The early 90s must have been into Westerns back then. I recall An American Tail: Fievel Goes West coming out around at the time.
Comet raised a mesa to the western skies.

Up on the mesa

On Moo Mesa!
I honestly would like to see the 2012 ninja turtles series crossover with this lol. Context: they crossed over in the old ninja turtles comics.
They did have a reference in the TMNT Fast Forward episode where Viral(?) was introduced.
I prefer Cowboys of Moo Mesa to be their own person in their own universe.
@@Disneyfan82 (late reply) it definetly deserves a reboot but keep the theme song! Heck get billy dean to do it again but make a longer version this time.
@@unseenphantomamvsytp2186 And give every character, even the villain sidekicks their side of the story and further development since it felt unfinished before the show ended.
@@Disneyfan82 Get the same people who animate Rise of TMNTs fight scenes and it would be perfect! I'd prefer a new 2D show over a 3D one.
I really do like the wild west C.O.W. Boys of the Moo Mesa, because it reminds me of biker mice from mars and it got action, adventure and comedy. I just wished they released the complete DVD series.
I could here this song a thousand times and not get bored of it
+Eduardo Borrego Yes, It really is a catchy theme song, next to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles theme song.
Me too!
By far the best into of an old time classic ❤
This show didn't have any flying or ki blast, morphing power suit, mutating body, but I enjoyed the hell outta this show it had ready to ride a house with the theme song in the background.
I use to watch this show back in the day when I was in kindergarden back in 1992 Saturday mornings on ABC.TV was good & innocent back in the day. And I like this song.I like how someone put the lyrics on this page. This is Old School.Season 1 was the best because I saw the first season, not every episode, what a shame.I had to see broadcast saturday morning cartoon shows back in the day,it was good.Saturday morning cartton block was traditional,it get the kids weekend saturday started before going off and not in school, have their morning programs.I call this song R&B.
I didn't watch this show when it came out, my grandparents had some episodes on VHS, so it's still very nostalgic for me.
Season 2 of Wild West C.O.W.-Boys of Moo Mesa was produced by Ruby-Spears, whereas Gunther-Wahl handled the 1st season!!!
I’m pretty old, but for the life of me I can’t remember this show. I wasn’t into cowboys much as a kid, so maybe I just plain ignored it, but I still think I would’ve remembered this show.
Does anyone know any country songs that sound as legendary or good as this?
BlueBerkBoCO I Suggest anything from George Strait or Garth Brooks.
+Toni Technaclaw HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Anything from Chris Ledoux, specifically lawman reverend brown, cowboy in a continental suit, stampede, call of the wild and 8 second ride.
grey and blue from batman.
No
Why is this show still so nostalgic to me? It still has one of the most badass intros I've ever heard!
Say what you want about this show this song is awesome end of discussion
80's-late 2000's had some of the best and catchiest cartoon themes
I was first introduced to this by Random House Home Video. Another fun fact: This show was produced by Mitch Schauer and Gunther-Wahl Productions, Inc. The same company that later did The Angry Beavers.
A kids' show that would BENEFIT from a Michael Bay reboot.
2wingo no, no, For this we'd need someone thats Good Fantasy and Westerns. I Suggest the director of Cowboys and Aliens.
Toni Technaclaw Or the guy behind Rango.
+2wingo sarcasm noted
+2wingo
YES! Bulls on steroids, cows with big boobs and racism. ALSO EXPLOSIONS!
+Jarosław Sobiński (Worldwatcher) I might actually watch that. For ironic purposes obviously.
Used to love this show. Looking at it now, I just realized how funny it is that humanoid cows are riding horses since in reality both are common livestock and closely associated
this show takes me back
I know right Wouldn't that be considered cannibalism?
Ahh memories I saw this and tmnt good old days
Here's the irony- Billy Dean actually performed the theme to The Wild West C.O.W.-Boys of Moo Mesa on the old TV program, Prime Time Country.
Did he really? I wonder if it's on YT somewhere?
The Mysterious Mr. Enter pretty much brought me here with his 2023 edition of the Top-20 Greatest Opening Theme Songs. I have seen a few episodes of this show now, and now I'm hooked. 🤣
This was my show when I was little. ❤️
I have the sudden urge to play New Vegas.
I know right !
Damn you.
Same.
You know I'm right though.
New Vegas is more Western than post apocalypse
File this under theme songs that have lived in my head rent free for the past 30-something years
Fun Fact: The theme was performed by Billy Dean, who hit it big in Country Music right as the series came out, so if the singer sounds familiar, that's why.
While I never saw this show, the theme song is reminding me of other shows that I watched when I was younger.
I've never seen this show, but this theme song really makes me want to. Does anyone know where I can find episodes?
Not a country fan but this is a damn fine song
I still remember this song somehow .. & hardly remember the show😂
Dam, the opening animation still looks impressive today!
As for the actual show...well. It's decently expressive, but far more stiff.
Weird I remember this show and just stumbled upon this video.
I don’t know anyone else (in real life) who’s heard of this show, but I feel like for some reason THIS is a show that deserves a reboot. The turtles got like eight of them, and this show is honestly more interesting imo.
Yeah, this show really does need a reboot to finish everyone else's stories, even the bad guys so we can hear where they came from and what drove them to where they are, which is what most modern shows are doing now. TMNT has had enough reboots now it's time to give this show and other shows a chance to shine. But only as long as it's nothing terrible like the reboot Ben 10, Powerpuff Girls 2016, Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, or that horrible Thundercats Roar. I want it to be a reboot that does not rely too much on humor alone more than story and character development.
@@Disneyfan82 Rise of the TMNT is absolutely nothing like those other shows, and it absolutely slaps.
@@RossPitSharkHunter I could be wrong about it then. But the other shows are not how real remakes should be made
@@Disneyfan82 Oh, the others are truely garbage, and it breaks my heart that Rise of the TMNT so often gets slotted in with those for the crime of being slightly comedic in tone(at first).
@@RossPitSharkHunter I don't hate comedy to be honest, really I don't. It's just some people think the humor is too focused on than the story. I don't know. But I like it if there was a balance between the humor and seriousness of the situation.
I don’t understand, why does this go so hard?
I remember watching this cartoon on Saturday mornings. 😊
For those that are asking for a reboot of this series, it seems that The Nacelle Company bought the rights and its planning a new cartoon alongside new toys, this was announced on august of this year (2023)
0:24 That clip of Dakota throwing a bolder with a "tough guy" expression, while the music says "Live the real cowboys"...
It's so cheesy and badass at the same time.
It's not cheesy, it's badass.
I used to watch this show i loved then i love it now
I was already too old for it when it was aired here in Brazil, but nevertheless, the intro song really impressed me.
Gift from the icy comet ☄️
AMAZING
i use watch this late at night on toon disney along with the wizard of oz show and bonkers
The VHS tapes by Random House brought me here.
Me: "I hate country music!"
Also me: "Crank this!!"
0:48...the one on the right is stoned out of his mind lmao.
The one on the right is Colorado Kid and yeah, he does
In my homeworld, it goes up to season 239. Now with updated graphics!
Why is this song so catchy?
How am I just realizing that the opening is a mini episode all by itself?!
Theme (LeeAnne Rhimes) comet raised a Mesa to the western skies with the sound of a thousand cattle drives a chosen few would see the light and fight the wrong with right (chorus) up on the Mesa high above the clouds there's a world apart from all the rest on moo Mesa live the real Cowboys standing up for law and order and living by the codes of the west! Iii
who's blaring this while playing Red Dead 2?
This on my former ABC currently FOX WBRC in Birmingham, Alabama.
what channel did this cartoon play on? i grew up in the 90s and don't ever remember seeing anything about this cartoon
If they didn't separate, and if a movie was made of this, I'd want Brooks and Dunn to do the song.
Used to watch this with Camp candy, and widget the world watcher. 😇😇
Mooooooo Mesa!
This song alone could make some moo-lah
❤❤❤❤❤❤
Cows that ride horses
*I've seen everything*
Alright, who spiked my drink?!
Maybe it was the cat 😺🐈
I want to ask Chris Metzen if Tauren were inspired by this tv show.
Someone should write a crossover between this and Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts.
When you think about it, this is a show made by humans about cows who act like humans riding horses.
Comet graze the Mesa to the Western skies

"What the f does any of that mean?" - Nostalgia Critic
"Comet RAISED the mesa"
Does anyone know how I can download it to my IPod for free
Something tells me the show's creator was a real fan of Cowboys and Westerns.
Or cows, who knows.
It's like the vegan version of a western since it's the cows living like humans.
This is another good cartoon show from DiC ( now it’s DHX Media. )
No, Gunther-Wahl did the 1st season, Ruby-Spears handled season 2!!!
This show should be put on Disney+ (Plus).
But when does Disney own this show?
@@Disneyfan82 I do know for a fact the series was featured in reruns on Toon Disney from 1998 to 2001.

Even as a kid I couldn’t ignore the fact that humanoid bulls were riding regular horses
What about mice riding motorcycles or turtles acting like ninjas? Seriously.
@@Disneyfan82 as odd as those are. They aren’t nearly as odd as one farm animal riding another
@@Simpanzee69 Is it odd for any anthro animal riding another animal? Sorry, but that's just silly. It's a cartoon.
@@Disneyfan82 honestly I was just pointing out how weird this cartoon was even compared to others and that even as a kid I recognized that. Seems like you’re either putting to much thought into this or you’re bored as hell to go in this much over a random comment.
@@Simpanzee69 Well I'm just saying that there are far more weirder cartoons that I have seen and heard about, but some of the complaints about anthro animals riding feral animals I just feel are rather odd, compared to mice riding motorcycles or turtles doing ninja kicks in a city of humans, or feral dogs transforming into anthro mode to fight crime. But weird or not, they are still loved by someone.
Oh yeah, I remember this. It was a TMNT clone and a pretty good one at that.
Strangely enough, if you play the song *Feeling* *Good* by *Blackfoot* it goes surprisingly well with this intro.
It should be known though, Blackfoot is Southern Rock, not country.
@@Disneyfan82 IMHO, there's a difference between a clone and a rip-off. Clones = good whilst rip-offs = bad. A good example I can give is this show and Kung Fu Dino Posse. Cowboys of Moo Mesa is a clone cause a standard of quality has been met. Kung Fu Dino Posse is, take my word for it, hardcore crap.
@@Rebel_Railroad_Productions Sorry for the misunderstanding before I read the whole thing first. But I just wish this show and Bravestarr were given reboots instead of always giving it to popular franchises that have one too many and should give others a chance they were denied.
@@Disneyfan82 No worries, bro. I know what you mean. I'd love to see new series of COMM and Bravestarr. That would be great.
As much as I enjoyed watching Wild West C.O.W.-Boys of Moo Mesa myself, I wish every episode had been animated the same way the theme song intro had been animated from the first episode "Bang'em High" that was first aired on September 12th of 1992 to the last episode "The Wild West Pest" that was aired on December 4th of 1993, and I also wish the people who worked on this show had included thunder-clapping, boulder-crushing and wind-blowing sounds at 0:09-0:26-0:56.
This was one of my favorite animated shows, next to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Fun fact: Wild West C.O.W.-Boys of Moo Mesa was created by comic book writer, artist and toy designer, Ryan Brown, who is best known for his work on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
( turtlepedia.fandom.com/wiki/Ryan_Brown )
I wish there had been a crossover with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles from the 1987 TV series and the Wild West C.O.W.-Boys of Moo Mesa from the 1992 TV series with a similar story plot that was used for issue #21 of the Tales of the TMNT comics that was first published by Mirage Studios in March of 2006

Something like this...
Sheriff Terrorbull as the Masked Bull and his two henchmen, Boot Hill (buzzard) and Saddle Sore (scorpion) steal a crystal shard that was part of the comet that created the world of Moo Mesa and as the C.O.W.-Boys, Marshal Moo Montana, Dakota Dude and the Cowlorado Kid, tries to stop them, the Masked Bull uses the shard's power to open a dimensional portal and escapes through it with Boot Hill and Saddle Sore following and as the C.O.W.-Boys pursue after them, they end up in New York City of another dimension.
Confusingly wondering where they had ended up, the C.O.W.-Boys hear a bell alarm not too far and have discovered that the Masked Bull, Boot Hill and Saddle Sore had robbed a jewelry store leaving a trail of diamonds behind on the ground and when they also hear police car sirens, they start running and become trapped in a dead-end alley and all of a sudden, one of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Michelangelo, emerges from a manhole and gets the C.O.W.-Boys' attention and leads them through the sewers to the lair.
After Marshall Moo explains the situation to the four turtles (Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, Michelangelo) and their rat sensei, Splinter, the Turtles' human friend, April O'Neil, contacts the Turtles by the turtle-communicator that the Federal Reserve Building is being robbed by bulls and when the Turtles and the C.O.W.-Boys arrive, they come to a shocking discovery that the Masked Bull had once again used the crystal shard's power to create twelve clones of himself to keep anyone from getting inside and April records the battle with her minicam as her story for Channel 6 News and after the Masked Bull, Boot Hill and Saddle Sore are defeated, the Masked Bull clones suddenly disappear and Marshal Moo used the shard's power to open a portal back to Moo Mesa with the Masked Bull, Boot Hill and Saddle Sore tied up together and thanks the Turtles for their help when they return to Moo Mesa, the Masked Bull, Boot Hill and Saddle Sore manages to escape and Marshall Moo claims to Dakota and Cowlorado that they haven't see the last of them and that he will one day arrest and unmask the Masked Bull and suggest that they head on over to the Tumbleweed Saloon for a sarsaparilla.
And that's pretty much my idea for the crossover.
As much as I enjoyed TMNT when I was young, I just think crossing it over with Moo Mesa or every other show might create too much confusion and plot holes, but that it is just my opinion. Don't get me wrong, that sounds like a good storyline, yet when the reboot of She-Ra came, they couldn't get the rights to He-Man, so they made Etheria separate from Eternia, making the universe on its own. Again it's just me, but I prefer it if the Cowboys of Moo Mesa were their own person in their own universe.
@@Disneyfan82 I see. Well, I still think the comic book crossover was cool.
@@JoshuaModerwell I never read it, but seen parts of it. I like the designs of the cowboys.
They should made a crossover with moo mesa and tmnt episode three parter
Would rather see a crossover of this show with Bravestarr.
Well, will you take the Easter egg?
Do they even do theme songs for kids shows today? Like this singer actually is trying compared to the 20sec diddly bs that accompanies many shows today
cool joke.
