Some comments: John once said that Paul was a multi-instrumentalist who was always somewhat coy about his bass playing despite that fact that he was the best in the business. John wasn't terribly free about giving compliments to Paul. Also, don't forget that a part of Paul's bouncy bass style were those octave hops.
McCartney initially didn't want to play bass but realized that he could control the harmonic direction a song could take with the instrument.
Was Paul an influential bass player? I should say so. The fact is, the electric bass guitar didn't register at all among Americans until Paul showed up with that funny violin-looking Hofner; there's a great photo of him showing it to Ed Sullivan. Paul greatly popularized the instrument.
Finally, there's a story from my bass teacher that he once briefly listened to a student play and he demanded to know if his teacher didn't tell him to keep his thumb behind the fretboard where it belonged.
My fave basslines are in "Hey Bulldog" and "Rain," with honorable mention to "Lady Madonna." And look up the 1976 live version of "Silly Love Songs." Amazing. He sings in one meter and plays bass in another.

Non musicians don’t realize what an incredible bassist Paul is. I suppose that’s natural when one is one of the greatest songwriters ever. We bassists all know though.

McCartney has always had great ears. He took a lot from James Jamerson's bass lines for Motown records even though he didn't know Jamerson's name because the house musicians weren't listed on Motown singles or LPs in the 1960s.

He must have learnt his name at some point because Paul has named James Jamerson as a massive influence on his playing.

The Beatles were the very first band I ever got into when I was a kid and are still one of my all-time favourites, Paul is such a legendary bassist (not to mention that he also sings while playing) and one of my personal heroes

Paul also frequently incorporated hammer-ons. He was also one of the earliest bassists to use power chords (you hear it on "All I've Got to Do" and "And I Love Her").

PAUL DEL BELLO, do another Paul McCartney bass lines using "slash chords" because its often that McCartney uses the 3rd or 5th or 7th as the bottom note instead of the 1 tonic root note.

Hey mate, you are doing great job.
It would be perfect if you make a video about Alex James from Blur.
He really deserves to be in Bass Habits.
    Such an underrated bassist.
He has unique approach to make his own groove, which sounds very stylish and unpredictable.
Good examples are She's So High, Bang, Pressure on Julian, Oily Water, He Thought Of Cars, End Of A Century and many more.....

People like to shit on him because he's more known for his voice and songwriting ability. But Paul is great on bass too. He has a thing for creating very happy bouncy grooves with very tasty melodic hooks. No, he can't shred. But he fully understands role of bassist in the band and if he did shred the shit on those beatles records, it would sound like crap. Less is more folks! (Unless you are Yngwie)

I really enjoy this series, and I finally subscribed. I would love to see you do a video for Jared Followill, bassist for Kings of Leon. He is an underrated bassist with lots and lots of melodic, and simple but memorable basslines. Actually, in many Kings of Leon songs the bass carries the song. One of his signature moves is play on the low or mid part of the neck, and then quickly slide up to a few high notes, then back down. I love that he plays all over the neck, and some basslines even stay around the top of the neck. Here are some examples of his work you can check out if you're interested:
Razz, True Love Way (how many songs start off with bass harmonics?), Ragoo, Camaro, The Immortals, Pony Up, Family Tree, Crawl, Manhattan, and Supermarket.
