Amtrak just issued an RFP for a brand new fleet of long distance trains!!! Don’t forget that
Truly an eventful year for railroading. First new heritage units, then new Amtrak equipment, then new metro train sets, and so much more, hopefully 2024 brings more amazing railroading memories. Roll on! Happy New Year everyone!
It's good to see more government interest in transit. This may mark the future of transportation in America
A great year for rail, thanks for the good video. Now if we could just get the Rio Grande Plan in Salt Lake City to be more mainstream in the rail and urbanist community. How can people not get behind bringing rail service back to a 113 year old depot.
Because the plan put the tracks underground, which is ridiculous.
@@KCSRailstudios How is that ridiculous? It puts tracks underground for only a few miles through the downtown core. This allows for a reconnection of redlined areas. It also allows them to reconnect to a historic train station restoring it to what it should be a train station not just some random building.
Great video! Bro if I see those hideous “battery electric “ 🤓 locomotives I might quit railfanning 😂
I likely made history, as Its likely I was the first ever service dog user and my service dog behing the first ever onboard the REM in montreal. On the july 29th soft opening.
The railroads have had a wild ride in 2023. Some good and some bad news. It was like a roller coaster. CSX Heritage Units and partnerships with Texas Central from Amtrak.
Happy New Year 2024 from Kansas 🇺🇲
It was so cool watching Brightline go up and I'm so glad they've started running!
Happy 20K subscribers WorldwideRailfan. 0:28
2023 saw additional Cascades trips between SEA and PDX bringing it to 7 daily round trips. The Tacoma Streetcar saw the opening of its first extension which doubled its length. Sound Transit has also made steps towards converting the Seattle Sounder South Line commuter rail to all day service.
2024 is set to be a big year for the PNW for transit with several BRT lines opening. But more relevant to this channel, Seattle's Link Light rail is getting an extension north to Lynnwood which is expected to add 50,000 new daily riders. The starter segment for Link's 2 line between Bellevue and Redmond Technology center will open 6 months later. While construction problems have delayed the world's first floating bridge rail line and this the 2 will not reach Seattle for another year or two, the starter is exciting nonetheless. Finally, the Sounder North Line will be gaining two more peak trips bringing it back up to pre-pandemic service levels.
You hit the 20k!!! I told you I'd make the 10 friends who owe me $ subscribe!!!😂 Glad u r feeling better, Sam. Here's to an incredible 2024 on the rails and in our lives.
Hey great video, I gotten the HHP-8 cab car in person and it was quite a nice unit to catch on the NEC it was coming from Washington DC to Philadelphia running as 820.
Also in 2024, CP 4-6-4 steam locomotive no. 2816 will take on the ultimate continental tour from Calgary, Alberta, Canada to Mexico City, Mexico in celebration of the CPKC merger. The special train is expected to depart Calgary on April 14th, 2024.
You forget to Mention the CP 2816 Tour that starts in April and the UP 4014 Tour
I'm making a fictional high speed train for a train simulator, painted in the Amtrak Avelia Liberty logo. The way things are going, I'll probably have the whole train finished before Amtrak releases the real train into service.
Wow! Which train simulator game are you talking about?
@@damcoentertainment3956 Trainz Railroad Simulator 2019 and 2022. I'm also working on a fictional route that takes place in the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
Happy New Year to all of the amazing rail fans who show support with news.
I found this to be quite an informative summary of this year's events! I am looking forward to seeing what will happen on the rails next year.
For now, thanks for making this! Have a Happy New Year!
This was a very interesting year for the railroads! I can't wait to see what happens for them in 2024!
Great news everyone A New Route for Amtrak had need made take a Ride from New Orleans to And Be in Gulfport MS in no time and Amtrak will be sharing a 65 -70 MPH tracker with CSX Corp The schedule
The Clinchfield is not going to be a heritage unit for CSX unfortunately.
We'll see. As CSX has already renumbered a gevo #1902
@STHSIndustries2K6 I already knew that, why do you think it got renumbered to 1897
Hopefully Compass Rail construction in Massachusetts finally gets under way next year.
Thanks for your videos this year. They have brought me a lot of pleasure.
Great recap! This year saw plenty of wins when it comes to passenger rail, and I can't wait to see where most of these developments lead us in the future, namely funding approval for passenger service in the U.S. and with Mexico introducing more passenger services at the drop of a hat.
congrats on 20k!
Cpkc as a name is like Ns, Bnsf and Csx. They combine their names
Happy Holidays. I really appreciate your reporting, it goes a long way. I love your channel and your content. I hope you and your family are all doing well!
Awesome re-cap of the year! Thanks for making this video and all of your amazing content!
2:57 A little smokey there, ey?
Your completely right about the REM! Its actIually a light metro that will go the airport, the west island and the north of montreal! As y profile pictures indicates, im a Montreal and I love the REM! There was actually a project of it being extended into the east of montreal but the nimbies made it be cancelled:(
I wish it got extended to Dorval, makes it easier to connect with Via Rail and Exo trains + the bus terminal and replacing the bus shuttle to the airport
NIMBYs... the bane of any goverment entity who wants to do infrastructure projects in a locality. Had this happened in my country, they won't have a chance, especially if its a major government project. In my country, the Philippines, the government takes eminent domain seriously; matter of fact, its in our constitution. If anyone who does not agree with the price the government offers on his property (and its value, and eventually the monetary compensation is based on the fair market value of the property), well, that fellow will expect an expropriation case in court. And in those cases, the government always win, and the landowner will have to accept the compensation offered by the government.
@@kristoffermangila too bad transit projects take so long and is so behind infrastructure wise compared to other cities and countries in Southeast Asia. Still waiting for MRT 7!!!
@@TheRandCrews patience man, patience. Every Filipino brother and sister knows that the main stumbling blocks for these mass transit projects is moolah, and lots of it, and qualified construction companies to do it. There's still quite a few of those projects ahead of MRT 7, and even if there's enough money, there's only a finite number of local construction companies certified to build big-ticket projects like MRT 7.
A very interesting news substance with information of every imaginal railroad transportation in this world. A very interesting point of view and now I'm glad to be a member of it
Really great video. I'ma new sub
ive always thought KCS should just be grouped in with the SOO line and called, "Canadian Pacific Southern," keep Canadian Pacific Canadian Pacific, but create a holding company called Canadian Pacific Kansas City. Much more flushed out, and plus, you could keep both the original KCS liveries and CP liveries, just with the lettering changed.
That reminds me of the organizational structure of Air France-KLM - one holding company, separate organization of the constituent companies.
Tthat was my thought also, Canadian Pacific Southern.
man, I love watching your videos. Keep up the great work.
Also the LA regional connector which connected 3 lines!! Now the San Gabriel Valley has connections to the Westside and faster commute from south LA
I really enjoyed discovering your channel this year. Happy New Year! (And congrats on reaching 20K!)
4:00 they already had heritage units
No they didn't
Congrats on 20k Subs
As much as I love riding on trains the problem still exists of how to get around once you arrive at your destination.
As opposed to PERSONAL transport like cars & bikes you get on & off at your departure & arrival stops.
Maybe more attention could be paid to bike storage on trains? The swap able electric scooter batteries in hongkong is an innovative idea.
Also marketing is sadly lacking for passenger transport in the Americas.
Lets hope for some break troughs in 2024 like continent wide unidirectional twin railways up down & around the continent, Boring company Highspeed Jet/slip stream hyperloops and battery boxcars to electrify diesel electric locos.
Battery and hydrogen locomotives will be the biggest thing that’ll work amazingly and the California high speed rail next to Brightline west will be huge this year in 2024
I sure hope the Shinkansen will replace the short haul flight
RIP to montana rail link.
Well, given all of these stories, especially the fact that Brightline has opened their Orlando extension, I think the future for passenger rail is looking BRIGHT.
I know this is how people felt back in 2012-2014 when there were so many proposed Obama era projects, but it’s hard not to feel super hopeful about high speed rail in the coming years. More people are concerned with building real infrastructure than ever, and the will to build these systems is immense.
I am getting ready to go on a bright line
Didnt mention mexico started high speed rail in cancun called tren-maya
He did mention Mexico's trains in the honorable mentions section
i’m so pissed along with many others that california is trying to push for hydrogen trains instead of tried and tested overhead catenary
2024 will be a year of designing some good to hideous Battery Locomotives (thanks California), that would end up like the SD50, an epic fail!
No pic of Tren Maya?
4:37 i drew those!
Nice.😂😅
Can you show me those sketches sometime soon?😂😅I love them!
It good have Canadian pacific Kansas City and southern.
Um, you should have mentioned that CPKC is doing a steam excursion to Mexico in 2024
what about the upcoming double decker septa train cars or are they MIA?
Quick tip on pronouncing the REM. The metro in metropolitain is pronounced as the English metro, pol like politics, I like the letter e, and tain like getting a tan.
4:40
I’m surprised no railroad news that wasn’t North American related
Not really that anyone cares but I live 15 mi away from where that Train drailed in east Palestine
Let me just say your pronunciation of Reseau Express Metropolitan was honestly not that bad, let me put it this way, some of my French Canadian family members say it worse...
So you only north america?,
Paint? Number six? Really?
8:45 why a terrible name?
It's more often railroad tradition to frankenstien names like this. i.e. Burlington Northern & Santa Fe (BNSF)
I know but I mean why IS Canadian Pacific Kansas City a terrible name for Sam
Aero trains better have good seats or else no ones using amtrak.
newarkian bull
The rem is less important than heritage paint jobs
They're not in order of importance
