Lots of good information here. Thanks, Nick.

On order of operations, might you consider assembling the riser and the lip creating one piece, letting it cure, then leaving you ready access to fillet the inside corner between the riser and the lip. And then later installing the combined riser, lip and filleting as one piece to the (glassed) deck. (You might even glass the combined riser, lip and filleting *before* attaching them to the deck.) Filleting the inside corner of the riser and lip after they've been installed on the deck is for me always a challenge.

Yes, absolutely. Doing another glue-up that includes the lip could make it easier in some ways. There are lots of things you can do that bring a tradeoff between time and ease.
If you are building at home, for your own use, and you can get to the project for brief intervals, it may make sense to break it down into a series of more, smaller tasks. I tend to try to do as much as possible in as short a time as practical so I can finish the kayak more quickly. This is not always the "best" way, but we can each find our own balance between time available and how big a task we want to take on in each work session.

I have to agree with you removing the coaming and glassing the deck under the ring. I would be a real pain (keeping the glass laid down) glassing the small section and lip flowing to the underside of the deck. To keep the down range cuts on your fingers from occuring try using a carving glove made of kevlar. After I turn bowels and need to lop off the small nipples on the bottom of the bowls I use the glove to hold the wood piece and then use a flexcut tool to cut off the excess....and no Band-Aides!

So glad you elected to keep the 'School of Hard Knocks' in this episode like you have done in other builds. This prevents myself from making what may have thought to be a 'better' way to do a step or two would end up being a 'Huge' error and a few steps backwards to repair/fix the incorrect step. Thanks for sharing.

I hope folks understand that making mistakes is common and normal and isn't a reason to give up. You can just stop, fix it, and move on.

Thanks for showing us your change of order on the coaming. It's all too easy to get ahead of ourselves and end up making it harder down the line. It's good to show that you need to think about the order of events and also that sometimes it's better to abort an operation rather than let yourself get stuck with it! Glassing the deck is MUCH easier without the coaming and will result in a stronger boat and better finish as you said. 👍

I often find that when encountering an issue, my instinct is to try to make do with the easiest solution at the time, when the best solution may appear much more drastic, but actually saves time later on and makes it easier for future-me.

This series is not my most popular, but I think it is doing a good job at what I want from it. It is probably the most comprehensive boatbuilding instruction available for free on UA-cam. I really appreciate everyone who takes the time to watch each episode.

@@NickSchade I suspect that this series will be viewed by lots of people as time marches on. I'd say it's the definitive guide to S&G, and kayak building in general. Thanks for taking the huge amount of time it takes to put these together.
Oh, and the subtitles at the end were great!
