I work in Columbiana County in Ohio so you were flying close to where I work. Back in the early 70s my dad bought a 50 acre farm and he bought a 1937 Galion Road grader with no brakes for $600. In 1970 I was 10 years old and I helped my dad with cutting trees on the property. After trees were cleared he used the road grader to level out a 2200' x 75' path and turned it into a grass air strip with 1800' usable. He had the air strip registered with the FAA and named it J & B Sky Ranch, using the first initials of my mom and dad's first names hence the J & B. Throighout the 70s I learned to fly my dad's planes beginning with a 46 Luscombe, 68 Cessna 150, and a 59 Tri Pacer. Learned how to fly really well but never persued a private pilot license. They sold the farm in 89 but I think his air strip is still registered with the FAA. My dad lost his job in the late 70s due to the Steel Mills closing and sold his last plane, the 150 to somebody in Michigan. In 2002 at the age of 65 he got the itch to fly again and bought a 1973 150L but had to hanger it at New Castle airport because he no longer had the farm. He flew until around 2013 then had to give up flying, driving, and everything else due to dementia. He passed away in 2018. I will always remember my childhood and the excitement of learning about general aviation and watching an occasional pilot fly in for no other reason than to say hello because they happened to be flying in the area. The 150 will always remind me of my dad and its a wonderful airplane to fly or learning to fly with. Enjoy your 150 and thanks for sharing your video.
Great story. Glad you enjoyed the good times with your dad. My dad passed in 2005 but never got to see my actually own a airplane and I regretted it. I had no money back then struggling. I knew He like flying so i paid someone to take us up before he passed. He was all smiles and got pics. I'm glad I did that back then to share my interested with him before he died.

It's a good idea when you're sitting out there at the end of the runway waiting, to bring your tach into your cockpit crosscheck and keep your engine RPM below 1000. The little Continental O200A is set up to idle nicely at 800 RPM, and it is thoughtful to anyone who might be behind you. There is also less abrasion to the prop leading edges (even when on a paved surface) and it is easier on the closely cowled engine. If you're concerned about plug fouling, you can lean the mixture during ground operations, and reaffirm mixture rich for takeoff. The 150 is a great little ship and a joy to fly! Nice. I took and completed my aircraft dispatcher courses and FAA exams and certification quite a few years ago, never could nail down a good enough paying local job so I moved on to other things. But that did require me to pass the PAR private pilot courses and I "technically" have a license but have never actually flown any hours. Always thought about trying to move forward with that part anyway but haven't got around to it yet. The knowledge that goes into all that was a great experience and I'm proud of myself for passing the ADX exams.

You can do it. Just save and study when you have time. Hang out at the airport and get to know people. You won't find a nicer club. Great info and people to point you in the right direction.

Are the velocity call-outs at take-off and landing in knots or mph? Recently started training in a C150, so I'm watching every video I can find to see the flow and handling. After landing at 44:40 you mention not to hit the brakes yet - are you waiting for a speed or for the nosewheel to touch? Thanks for making this video.
MPH because on the indicator they are Bigger and the numbers are easier to read (airspeed). I hold the nose up as long as i can so minimum braking is achieved. Saving on brakes pads and its cool to hear the nose wheel "chirp" when it finally touches down (on some runways). Thanks for viewing!
