Notes to self based on Bryce Kho (btw his art course is phenomenal I highly recommend if you wish to do work like his or *like* him) 1.) watercolor and bimoji kuretake brush pen 3-5 min figures to figure stuff out and free yourself to explore and experiment 2.) since he comes from a fast paced environment, white space and quicker mediums are his comfort- so looking for the most prominent and eye catching details while abstaining from the auxiliary stuff is helpful So medium, open space and reduction for implied light and form 3.) bryce does love his volumes, and breaking down forms into simple understandable shapes 3.5.) Simple, quick, and get the essence of the character-story 4.) your drawings aren’t precious, let your sketchbook be a place to try. Drawing is a battle and your reps is your attrition to understand your enemy. 5.) Study a model first, trace out that feeling of impressions first, then draw it out.
So glad to see more watercolour content!! His gestural watercolour work is particularly beautiful. As an art teacher it’s always cool to see how other artists bend mediums to subtly create their own artistic power in a sense. I could sense Kim Jung Gi had to be an artist reference for him in some way and sure enough there it is at the end! So good. It was also interesting to see and hear him be open and honest about weaknesses, I still struggle with male characters/figures yet he just works the brush and paper so fluidly. My strong point is animal anatomy particularly big cats and female form which the majority of my students favour, but I’ve been wanting to introduce more male forms/characters. I look forward to seeing /learning more from Bryce.
Bruce is very open as an instructor and we appreciate him for it. In our lessons with him in our digital painting course, he shared tips, how he breaks things down and what areas he skims over in a piece and how he makes that work. Many pro artists, in times last, taught what was academically proper but not what they actually do. We appreciate him for it!
I am very grateful for the sketchbook series . I have given up several times, went back to my vices, stopped drawing for months which became years. Yet this channel has endured; and prospered even. This really brings back that magical time when I saw Steve Huston's watercolor/gouache sketchbook and was absolutely mesmerized by how alluring it was. Thank you for going out of your way to meet with industry legends so that we can catch a glimpse of skill that can never be obtained by cheap gimmicks or money.
I'd love seeing more about the loose gesture, characterization and experimental processes like this. I use the channel mostly as reference for anatomy and structure but then it's easy to forget about getting the energies you want or communicating things in an engaging way and not just trying to translate things directly like a robot before you let yourself do anything else
Your delicate and gorgeous art style and your color scheme with its intensely bright color contrasts is simply breathtakingly beautiful! ✨️❤️✨️ Thanks for useful and valuable video as always
I don't have WiFi in my apartment, so I always download videos to watch later whilst I'm at work... these videos have been consistently within those batches
I love his style! So much density in his full illustrations and his use of colors is very fun. Might have to get myself a water brush pen and some paint like he showed at 2:40, because I love water color but I'm not much of a paintbrush kinda guy.
4:11 they look REALLY GOOD!! with such ugly colors too. My eyes immediately went there because it looks so cool. The way you correct drawings with a solid background is actually so cool. I wonder if it'll have the same effect with digital drawings. 8:47 YES that's gorgeous. Love your use of negative space!! Super cool! And then the black of the panther is just 😙👌🏽 Leaving the first two pages empty is actually so smart. Nothing discourages me more than having the first page SUCK but if it's the 3rd page. That might not be so bad lol.
His ability to say a lot with as little as possible is a great lesson in simplification although the work is far from simple. Thanks for posting this very insightful video.
ooooooW! i love his works so much! i feel so blessed to see his sketchbook and ear this interview ! thx so much Proko for bringing us nearer to wonderful artists. they are not just the image they produce but so much more and is imperative now more then ever to get to the person behind the images!
I've been really liking these sketchbook videos, I actually have a couple of unused sketchbooks so it gives me an idea of how I should treat them. Purposely messing up the first page is a good way to get out of the perfectionist mindset with sketchbooks btw. Recently got a pretty nicely sized set of cheap acrylic paint pens, I feel like I could do studies similar to these ones with them.
"I just know throught a lot of experience that i will eventually get it, and then that will be something that i can just whip out and not think it's a big deal But it's going to take a lot of trial and error"
I would kill to see a timelapse of those digital drawings. All the clutter is incredible, I want to draw stuff like that filled with tiny details but i never know where to start
That sketchbook is beautiful but his art and the quality of the book. It sits so flat and the paper is clearly heavy I wish I could find something comparable!
Absolutely! It just takes intentional practice and time. Check out our free drawing basics playlist to get started today! ua-cam.com/play/PLtG4P3lq8RHHMNwxuVk0IcGRtPGHi4vN9.html&si=VYv4u0rC4EihlcSk
I don't mean any offence or disrespect by saying this but his sketching style is miles more beautiful and captivating than the finished commercial works that he showed. This man has a great talent for sketching and watercolour that I feel is underutilized with the sterile, generic art modern games demand.

I’ve never heard Bryce articulate his thoughts in such depth, a recording of it is inspiring.
One of my favorite artists working on some of my favorite games. Thank you for featuring Bryce! I really loved his final page of figures.
This sketchbook changed the way I see watercolors completely and I'm excited to give it a try now
One of the most amazing artists! Own his book for Sea of Stars concept art and am glad to see more from him

I absolutely adore this sketchbook series. Invaluable and seriously insightful, not to mention inspirational
I like his style and he seems like a good guest to keep on. Nice to see watercolor represented as well
“I was t really happy with this one.”
Cuts to a literal masterpiece (better than anything I’ve ever done.)
Wow, i love his style! His use of colour is breathtaking, and these are some of the best gesture drawings/paintings I've seen..

I've been studying in the digital painting fundamentals course. I'm so excited to see what lessons Bryce will teach!
I thank this channel for existing and pushing me to keep up on my art as I study animation
What a star studded line-up for this series! I'm sure others are of the same sentiment, would love to watch this again in the future.
Love it when Bryce is on here showing his tips and trick. I always watch his videos❤
These sketchbook tours are really a well of inspiration 👏
I want to render and color my sketches like professional artists do!

Yes! Show us more sketch tour videos!!❤❤
Perfect! This is a need appreciated 😁
2:15 says he hated the drawing. Shows an absolute banger. Man's too good.

Watercolour is the king.
That sketchbook is beautiful but his art and the quality of the book. It sits so flat and the paper is clearly heavy I wish I could find something comparable!

You probably would be an excellent teacher!

What sketchbook does he use? It opens flat nicely.
Wow, I love this sketchbook tour, I love drawing but I'm still at the beginning, is there any hope of becoming like him?
Absolutely! It just takes intentional practice and time.

Quick question! Is Bryce using a sketchbook of watercolour paper?
Anyone know what kind of set is he using? I wish to buy brush pen and his set looks quite decent

Looks like it’s under ‘12 days of Proko 2024’!
