whenever i feel burnt out i watch these sketchbook videos to remind myself not all of my drawings need to “perfect” - i just need to DRAW and keep drawing even if its just for 10 minutes. these videos heal me please keep them coming ❤️
I don't have WiFi in my apartment, so I always download videos to watch later whilst I'm at work... these videos have been consistently within those batches
I am very grateful for the sketchbook series . I have given up several times, went back to my vices, stopped drawing for months which became years. Yet this channel has endured; and prospered even. This really brings back that magical time when I saw Steve Huston's watercolor/gouache sketchbook and was absolutely mesmerized by how alluring it was. Thank you for going out of your way to meet with industry legends so that we can catch a glimpse of skill that can never be obtained by cheap gimmicks or money.
I'd love seeing more about the loose gesture, characterization and experimental processes like this. I use the channel mostly as reference for anatomy and structure but then it's easy to forget about getting the energies you want or communicating things in an engaging way and not just trying to translate things directly like a robot before you let yourself do anything else
This is one of the best best videos I've seen from you guys. Something about how he's breaking things down in his book are helping a lot of concepts click in my head. ❤
Notes to self based on Bryce Kho (btw his art course is phenomenal I highly recommend if you wish to do work like his or *like* him) 1.) watercolor and bimoji kuretake brush pen 3-5 min figures to figure stuff out and free yourself to explore and experiment 2.) since he comes from a fast paced environment, white space and quicker mediums are his comfort- so looking for the most prominent and eye catching details while abstaining from the auxiliary stuff is helpful So medium, open space and reduction for implied light and form 3.) bryce does love his volumes, and breaking down forms into simple understandable shapes 3.5.) Simple, quick, and get the essence of the character-story 4.) your drawings aren’t precious, let your sketchbook be a place to try. Drawing is a battle and your reps is your attrition to understand your enemy. 5.) Study a model first, trace out that feeling of impressions first, then draw it out.
So glad to see more watercolour content!! His gestural watercolour work is particularly beautiful. As an art teacher it’s always cool to see how other artists bend mediums to subtly create their own artistic power in a sense. I could sense Kim Jung Gi had to be an artist reference for him in some way and sure enough there it is at the end! So good. It was also interesting to see and hear him be open and honest about weaknesses, I still struggle with male characters/figures yet he just works the brush and paper so fluidly. My strong point is animal anatomy particularly big cats and female form which the majority of my students favour, but I’ve been wanting to introduce more male forms/characters. I look forward to seeing /learning more from Bryce.
Bruce is very open as an instructor and we appreciate him for it. In our lessons with him in our digital painting course, he shared tips, how he breaks things down and what areas he skims over in a piece and how he makes that work. Many pro artists, in times last, taught what was academically proper but not what they actually do. We appreciate him for it!
I love his style! So much density in his full illustrations and his use of colors is very fun. Might have to get myself a water brush pen and some paint like he showed at 2:40, because I love water color but I'm not much of a paintbrush kinda guy.
Your delicate and gorgeous art style and your color scheme with its intensely bright color contrasts is simply breathtakingly beautiful! ✨️❤️✨️ Thanks for useful and valuable video as always
4:11 they look REALLY GOOD!! with such ugly colors too. My eyes immediately went there because it looks so cool. The way you correct drawings with a solid background is actually so cool. I wonder if it'll have the same effect with digital drawings. 8:47 YES that's gorgeous. Love your use of negative space!! Super cool! And then the black of the panther is just 😙👌🏽 Leaving the first two pages empty is actually so smart. Nothing discourages me more than having the first page SUCK but if it's the 3rd page. That might not be so bad lol.
His ability to say a lot with as little as possible is a great lesson in simplification although the work is far from simple. Thanks for posting this very insightful video.
ooooooW! i love his works so much! i feel so blessed to see his sketchbook and ear this interview ! thx so much Proko for bringing us nearer to wonderful artists. they are not just the image they produce but so much more and is imperative now more then ever to get to the person behind the images!
The art of Sea of Stars is what drew me to buy it! The characters and world look super interesting and lively, I'm stoked to know it was your art I was appreciating! Fantastic job on that, and I'm really impressed at this... How you can show so much detail in so little time!
I would kill to see a timelapse of those digital drawings. All the clutter is incredible, I want to draw stuff like that filled with tiny details but i never know where to start
I've been really liking these sketchbook videos, I actually have a couple of unused sketchbooks so it gives me an idea of how I should treat them. Purposely messing up the first page is a good way to get out of the perfectionist mindset with sketchbooks btw. Recently got a pretty nicely sized set of cheap acrylic paint pens, I feel like I could do studies similar to these ones with them.
A Little late for this, but thx again for your advice during Lightbox expo proko team. It was very insightful. Unnecessary side note, I think the most important fundamentals are actually Anatomy, perspective, and value now.
"I just know throught a lot of experience that i will eventually get it, and then that will be something that i can just whip out and not think it's a big deal But it's going to take a lot of trial and error"
That sketchbook is beautiful but his art and the quality of the book. It sits so flat and the paper is clearly heavy I wish I could find something comparable!
Absolutely! It just takes intentional practice and time. Check out our free drawing basics playlist to get started today! ua-cam.com/play/PLtG4P3lq8RHHMNwxuVk0IcGRtPGHi4vN9.html&si=VYv4u0rC4EihlcSk
While Bryce mostly mentions life drawing in a studio or in the wild, many artists find great reference that they either collect themselves or that's already collected in sets on Pinterest. You can see that in action on Ben Eblen's streams that he does on his channel.
The course he mentions can be found at proko.com/digitalpainting. That course features several digital art pros as instructors and is actively releasing new lessons. His section of lessons will come out later this month!
@ thanks so much for responding! Do you have the buy the full course if you only want one of the episodes? Can you buy individual ones? Which pack will Bryce’s video be under?
@@lazulianwater The course is split into two parts, one that's the absolute basics and one called "Digital Illustration and Advanced Techniques". You can get just that second part of the course to see Bryce's group of lessons.
We actually just did have him by recently and recorded something! Not sure exactly when that will come out currently but it's stored up for release at some point.
I don't mean any offence or disrespect by saying this but his sketching style is miles more beautiful and captivating than the finished commercial works that he showed. This man has a great talent for sketching and watercolour that I feel is underutilized with the sterile, generic art modern games demand.
Generally depends on the context. But even so, it's very hit and miss which things get ID'd as being no good even within the context of art. As a general rule, assume you can't and only post what would be safe for work. We assume a little leeway by being educational and not being photos/videos of people when there's actual nudity. Mostly rendered work.

BRYCE KHO NO WAY LETSS GOOO🎉🎉🎉 One of my favorite artists this is such a treat, thank you Proko🙏🔥

I’ve never heard Bryce articulate his thoughts in such depth, a recording of it is inspiring.

I absolutely adore this sketchbook series. Invaluable and seriously insightful, not to mention inspirational
Wow, i love his style! His use of colour is breathtaking, and these are some of the best gesture drawings/paintings I've seen..
One of the most amazing artists! Own his book for Sea of Stars concept art and am glad to see more from him
One of my favorite artists working on some of my favorite games. Thank you for featuring Bryce! I really loved his final page of figures.
I love his style! So much density in his full illustrations and his use of colors is very fun. Might have to get myself a water brush pen and some paint like he showed at 2:40, because I love water color but I'm not much of a paintbrush kinda guy.

This sketchbook changed the way I see watercolors completely and I'm excited to give it a try now

Love it when Bryce is on here showing his tips and trick. I always watch his videos❤
These sketchbook tours are really a well of inspiration 👏
I want to render and color my sketches like professional artists do!
I like his style and he seems like a good guest to keep on. Nice to see watercolor represented as well
I thank this channel for existing and pushing me to keep up on my art as I study animation
Incredible simplicity yet says so much.
Just what I needed
I'm not immature enough to say first

What a star studded line-up for this series! I'm sure others are of the same sentiment, would love to watch this again in the future.

I LOVE Bryce Kho! Sea of stars art book 🔥🔥🔥
I loved every minute of this one. Thanks for sharing these videos!
love this as a watercolor advocacy person!!
BRYCE KHO LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I love neo-noir! Drawing rain would be a great challenge!
Nice. I Love Sea of Star's art. Will be following Bryce's work for sure!
I would kill to see a timelapse of those digital drawings. All the clutter is incredible, I want to draw stuff like that filled with tiny details but i never know where to start

Perfect! This is a need appreciated 😁
Incredible sketchbook and Very inspiring commentary!!! Thank you!!!
Yes! Show us more sketch tour videos!!❤❤
Thanks for sharing this Bryce!
Watercolour is the king.
2:15 says he hated the drawing. Shows an absolute banger. Man's too good.
A Little late for this, but thx again for your advice during Lightbox expo proko team. It was very insightful. Unnecessary side note, I think the most important fundamentals are actually Anatomy, perspective, and value now.
“I was t really happy with this one.”
Cuts to a literal masterpiece (better than anything I’ve ever done.)
thanks for doing these, proko
Loving the style!
I spot some Jay Jay poses. Great Model
What sketchbook does he use? It opens flat nicely.
So cool sketch books and it's seems way quicker than digital 🤔
The truth in the comment at 10:20 is wonderful. It will be a lot of work, but it will work out!
thx for sketchbook series
bryce kho!!!!!!
You probably would be an excellent teacher!
He is! Check out 18:38 in the video 😁
Quick question! Is Bryce using a sketchbook of watercolour paper?
Would love to know as well
"I just know throught a lot of experience that i will eventually get it, and then that will be something that i can just whip out and not think it's a big deal
But it's going to take a lot of trial and error"
This is life.
What kind of sketchbook and paper is that?
Oml wait I didn’t know he’s the artist for Sea of Starsss, that’s CRAZYYY!
please make a video with naoki urasawa
That sketchbook is beautiful but his art and the quality of the book. It sits so flat and the paper is clearly heavy I wish I could find something comparable!
You need to create Proko Sketchbook Tour Channel and do this regulary, haha 😢😢
Anyone know what brand of sketchbook this is? Or what is the best multimedia sketchbook?
can we get a playlist of all the recent sketchbook episides please?
Looks like it’s under ‘12 days of Proko 2024’!
@beans9288 you're right, thanks!

I want to know where does he find this references!!!!
Where do you find poses with costuming and poses this unique?
While Bryce mostly mentions life drawing in a studio or in the wild, many artists find great reference that they either collect themselves or that's already collected in sets on Pinterest.
You can see that in action on Ben Eblen's streams that he does on his channel.
Oh man i got his book without even knowing it’s him lol, I just like the book at first but now the cogs are moving lol
What does an artist do with tons of sketches from many years ago? And don't come to me with storage ideas, lol. Nice video.
I want his shirt
how did he get the zoro models?
Yes!!!!!!!
❤️
Are these from imagination figures or from reference? Very nice!!!
Probably imagination
Where is the course that Bryce said he did for digital painting ? I went to the link he said but I couldn’t find the tutorial video

I believe his brush is a ZIG medium on Amazon
🔥
holy moly
😍
Hey I am early!! nice
The Donkey Kong sound effect 🤣
i didnt know that you could paint with watercolor but make it look like digital almost
can you have dong ho kim on for a demo sometime?
