Yeah, they should have done the burst, it would have looked like the jewel. Since they did the inlays that way they must have just cheaped out in the end.
Yes
Totally agree it should’ve been the green burst, just watch & it’ll show up in the Kramer line
The custom one with the binding that Dave has been using on stage looks amazing. It makes these solid color ones look like garbage. There’s just no comparison.
Literally was about to comment the same thing. Megadeth is my favorite metal band, but unfortunately, these releases have been overpriced and disappointing. They look like cheap guitars. The ones Dave plays onstage look sick though, but those will probably be released a long time from now and cost 5k.
@@crusefitzgerald I have the Alien Green and the Ebony Gibson Custom shop....the latter was 7K.
The headstock design of the Cat Stevens guitar could have something to do with his conversion to Islam.
Story has it he suffered a near death experience in 1976 that resulted in him turning to the Muslim faith.
Religion aside, Cat Stevens (now known as Yusef Stevens) is one of the most gifted songwriters of his era.
Facts right here.
100% that's the symbol of Islam as old Cat Stevens is now called Yusuf Islam.
I was looking through the comments before I stated this. You are correct.
religion of peace...???
anyhow...Cat was a gifted songwriter
@@markbaum9615 Yeah, most all religions have some pretty wild stories. The world and life seems to be pretty violent and has been from the beginning. At least it seems that way. I'm no expert, I can barely handle everything on my plate! No need for me to worry much about what others have going on.
The solid alien green is just blah boring. This is 'Rock star!' It should've been blinged out.
The cat Steven's acoustic with the Star inlay position markers, and crescent moon and star on the head stock is magnificent. I have a 95 gibson studio acoustic with the star position markers and 3 star inlays on the headstock, and Venetian single cutaway. It's my stage performance acoustic and it's amazing. I'm told gibson removed it from production in 2005. Glad I kept it in my arsenal of guitars. I have a J200 blond studio. It's a 'plain Jane' but produces the same big, booming volume and tone as the $5k to $7k J200. I bought it used from a friend for $1600. It's worth twice my investment if not more. Any Gibson acoustic is worth the investment. Thank you Austin for another great episode.

I feel let down that we still do not have a new USA Firebird.
Firebirds are cool.
Its just that for myself they feel like the neck is too far away, or that my arms shortened up like a Tyrannosaurus Rex!
@@hkguitar1984 😄😄😄Yes they can feel this way...The Firebird is one of these guitars you have to get used to... Personally I own 12 and I just love them...
@@jeromewagschal9485 Very cool to have so many of your favorite.
@@hkguitar1984 It didn't happen overnight 😄😄
@@jeromewagschal9485 Oh I certainly understand. You should be very pleased with yourself, no small task to acquire all of those. I've been buying guitars since 1974! It takes a lot of determination and sacrifice to build even a modest collection.
For myself I insist I play all of my guitars, as such that has limited me to about 10 guitars. And one Bass guitar, so 11.
Oh wait, I have a slide only guitar, no two slide only guitars, that would be 13.......
There may be more, I am weak when it comes to stringed instruments.
What a let down, The Burst looked amazing and classy, the plan green just looks cheap. It went from 3-5K looking guitar to a " Found USED at Guitar Center" 3-5 Hundred looking guitar.
Yeah the plan bust is a bust 🤣
I can't agree, I like the all-green version much better. I might've preferred something even more metallic, but yeah, my personal preference is for the solid green. Just MHO. Also my opinion, modern guitar prices are all insane. I freely admit to being a geezer, wot was a young teen in the 60's New Guitars went for an average of $500.00, not five grand. And even by the mid-90s, I could get an Ibanez Flying V for about $300, if memory serves. Even if I had that kind of money to burn, I'd refuse to do it just out of sheer orneriness, and would continue building kit and parts guitars. It's fun.
I think the burst look cheap af actually. The Green looks stunning
why does it feel like Gibson has shit quality control and everyone just copes by saying "it's the Gibson experience"?
Gibson keeps dropping the ball hard on all things Dave Mustaine.
I feel a bit let down on the Mustaine guitars as well, but I did pull the trigger on the green v at the last minute. I’m a sucker for cool inlays and I’m a huge Megadeth fan. Besides simplifying the paint by eliminating the burst, they did the same thing to the Dave Mustaine acoustic guitar. That one ended up black, when the press release had it as a blood burst which would have been awesome.
Everly’s were really know for the SJ-185. When they released the Everly signature, it was deemed an S-180.
The SJ-200 for Everly’s is more akin to the Hendrix SG - not their man axe, but known to use them
If Dave gives at damn he might be regreting leaving dean for gibson. They are dropping the ball really hard on his signatures
i just want Epiphone to issue Buckethead's sig
Lol speaking about bucketheads someone in a guitar group I'm in got a buckethead sig for 199$ cad in a pawn shop. the shop thought it was fake but it turned out to be real best deal I ever seen on a gibson
@@neil2706 a few smaller guitar channels have mentioned it. I think even Trogly mentioned it months ago.
@@taimaishu-nao1922 nah I don't think this happen 4 years ago but i could never forget it lolol
I was fortunate enough to get the mustaine rust in peace gibson the morning it came out. It is gorgeous in person. Very few imperfections. The finish is nearly flawless and the inlays are perfect. I hate the case. It is cheap looking but to each their own. I wish the logo was painted on not just water slide decals.
I happened to be on Gibson when Mustaine dropped. I too didn't see anything in the description about a limited run so decided not to pick one up. How annoying to see now it was a limited 100 run! Thanks Gibson.
Billie Joe Armstrong acoustic signature model was based off the the everly brothers guitar
Wait what? I have so many questions 😂 like did they at least tell the customers before shipping and let them choose whether they like the change or not?
1:27 Glenn is gonna blame Gibson QC for that one.
Trogly, the Cat Stevens guitar and the original 60’s Everly Brothers’ guitar both had the strings pulling straight through the bottom, kind of like a normal Gibson tailpiece
much prefer the solid green to the burst. The Rust in Peace guitar gets a lot of flak (from people who haven't even got their hands on one), but those inlays look great and I hope we see you documenting one soon, so we can actually get an informed opinion.
No probs. You'll just need to send me $150 first to cover the shipping, and I'll sort it all out for you.
Such a missed opportunity to do a blue/purple to green burst. Would have been so cool and with an ebony fretboard I would have snagged one immediately. Oh well. I still have hope. Can’t wait to see the Kramer line
I'm so glad I never liked square or pointy guitars. I tolerate hard body electric guitars like Fender or Gibson solid bodies but the body of the LP is the best but a biscuit joint would do wonders for the neck to join into the body and use the neck like Fender makes. The head should be reset down then angle down to 15 degrees. No broken headstock plus laminate. That alone makes it stronger. Plus, if done right makes them pretty too. The reversed Explorer sort of works?
Lets not forget that Mr. Stevens openly (and very publicly) cheered the 9/11 attacks on the United States. He later tried to back track when he needed money and wanted to tour the country.
EDIT: I'm gonna CYA and state that I had heard many attribute that quote to him.
THAT SAID, I'm not sure I wish to hang my hat or reputation on anything I've heard on Radio /TV or read in print. If anything I've learned that many times things are not what they've seemed and in some cases pure deception has been employed in coordinated actions/operations against the peoples of the world.
So, I'm just saying, I'd rather be safe than sorry.
Many of today's most famous Artists seem to go out of their way to inform everyone they hate America, and I suppose each one of us.
I'm very careful how I spend my money, there are plenty of great Artists who do appreciate everything this country has done for them, or all of us. But I digress, I just meant to affirm your statement.
Can you point me to any quotes that speak to that?
I only ask because the only public statements I've been able to find were included in a Rolling Stone Article and state: "I wish to express my heartfelt horror at the indiscriminate terrorist attacks committed against innocent people of the United States yesterday. While it is still not clear who carried out the attack, it must be stated that no right-thinking follower of Islam could possibly condone such an action. The Qur'an equates the murder of one innocent person with the murder of the whole of humanity. We pray for the families of all those who lost their lives in this unthinkable act of violence as well as all those injured; I hope to reflect the feelings of all Muslims and people around the world whose sympathies go out to the victims of this sorrowful moment"
Yeah, I'd like to see any evidence backing up these claims, which are otherwise libellous. The area in which he did let himself down in a big way was regarding the fatwa on Salman Rushdie, which he apologised for. All of which doesn't alter one jot the quality of the music he made in the 70s.
It's odd because Gibson has always pushed the J-180 as the Everly model (with star fingerboard inlays). No doubt they also played J-200s but I've always known them for playing 180s. 🤔
The J-185 was the guitar they were known for in the 60s, It was originally called the Everly Brothers flattop and it was reissued as the J-180. They used the J-200s in the 50s.
I mean the Cat Stevens model IS the Everly Bros model with the addition of a byzantine star and crescent in place of just a star on the headstock, I don't know why they did that, it doesn't make much sense to me.
@@highlands probably because of his conversion to the Muslim faith, that is the widely recognized symbol of Islam.
I really do love the Rust in Peace Alien Tech solid green. I would be curious to see what a reverse burst would look like with that green.
Cat Stevens acoustic all the way! Classy good looking well appointed guitar. 👌 the solid green on the Mustainr V is kind of letdown compared to the original burst finish that it was supposed to have. But I do like the multicolored inlays they put on it compared to what were on there originally
6:01 I didn't realise this logo design was pre-war. Interesting. First time I saw it was on my RD Artist 40th Anniversary, definitely not a pre-war era guitar originally!
As for the lack of burst on the RIP EXP, yes, it is a disappointment for me. It's what made it stand out immediately from the others. Now it's just a green basic model, just more expensive due to somewhat fancy inlays. The natural EXP looks nicer.
Yes, me too, on the Cat Stevens model…I always enjoyed him in the 60-70s
The cat stevens is definitely my favorite. I always preferred the J-180/185 over the J-200 for the shorter scale length
Honestly I rather have that solid green, burst is cool. But I did not like that other guitar, that burst is a bit out of my element. I was actually more excited for this one. Lol. But to each, I do like the inlay, and that grainy stuff is cool for me. Like seeing the wood and a color on top.
I wish to see the review on the cat Stevens:)
Yeah, that was an exceptional instrument.
I'd pay twice the asking price if I sounded like him when I played it!
Yeah, I'm dreaming.......................
Cat Steven’s wrote a song titled “The Boy With a Moon and Star on his Head”. That’s probably where the headstock inlay comes from.
The very early Gibson guitars had that crescent moon and star logo, I saw this on some mandolins ...
I would counter that this version on the headstock is more likely the “crescent and star” commonly associated with Islam, especially since Cat Stevens name is actually Yusuf Islam.
@@BlurpeeBaggins Yes, but the song was written before his conversion to Islam.
I much prefer the all green design, the original looked disgusting in my view. Prefer the inlays to the double sharkfin too.
Those were some really nice looking acoustics. I honestly don’t know what brand I’m going with when I decide to upgrade to an expensive acoustic. For now tho I still enjoy the freedom I feel when walking around with and laying the $100 epiphone one I have anywhere.
There is indeed a freedom for an inexpensive guitar (as you've stated).
I just picked up a little Fender Parlor guitar to leave out so I can play it often.
I don't dare leave my Martin out of the case as the humidity here can sometimes surpass the capacity of my dehumidifier.
Were I to purchase another high-end acoustic I would allocate as much as I could afford for a Carbon Fiber acoustic.
Theoretically the carbon fiber should be problem free for many decades.
@@hkguitar1984 👍 on the Martin and the parlor guitar purchase. I like messin around on parlors whenever I see them. I do feel like Martin is the route Id lean towards. I love the way an older Martin can look and of course because they usually sound great. But on older acoustics Twoodfrd scares the crap out of me sometimes when he shows and talks about all the different things that go wrong inside the guitar with braces etc… I don’t know a lot about that stuff so he scares me from wanting to spend a lot money and then get a lemon.
Look at Godin
@@MikeE- Yeah, the most amazing thing about my Martin is that it is a total machine.
The way the whole of the pieces work together is unbelievable. Also, my Martin is Blue and Black, it is a JC-16 KWS i purchased for less than half price even though it was brand new! Seems the typical Martin customer prefers a more traditional design.
@@MikeE- I totally baby that Martin. The bridge started to lift on it and Martin fixed it free of charge, even after I'd owned it 8 years! It is always in the case with a humidifier and it is the guitar I worry about most. If i could only keep one of my guitars it would be the Martin.
about 1985-86 there was a GREEN BURST V at DAYTON BAND IN OH. I've wanted 1 ever since
I really enjoyed seeing the Everly brother's model's and I liked the Cat Stevens model, too. I had a 90's Everly brother's model year's ago that had the pickguard and star inlays. Wish i still had it. The Mustaine V look's like a bad Jackson model. I really don't like the headstock shape. I prefer more traditional Gibson profiles. The Dean actually looks better. Anyway, I enjoyed this episode.
I love the Everly Brothers but was super bummed to see the 8k price tag. Does Gibson even care about the common player anymore? The younger players?
The answer to that question has long been "Nope... Smithers release the dogs" - to chase us riff-raff back into the arms of, at best (for big G) Epiphone, but more likely another manufacturer. Buying a new Gibson is for those with money to burn and it seems there are plenty of collectors out there eager to bite their hand off with every new release.
I'm with ya Trog. That Cat Stevens one is beautiful. Love the tortoise shell pick guards. Everything just goes together perfectly 🎸👍
That Mustaine would have been a hit if it had been an Epiphone.
I like to know when the hell is the kramer coming out like it feels like gibson/kramer forgot everything about it
I think Epiphone should do a TV Silver Mustaine V, with some clear speed knobs and skeleton tuners
I’d go with the Cat Stevens as well…although I could have sworn that his was just a normal J200, like what Pete Townshend was known for using on various Who and solo albums.
No, you can see Cat playing his Everley Brothers in some of his old videos, like 'Father & Son' or 'Lady D'Arbanville'.
I didn't know that was the original Gibson logo - very cool! Thanks for the education. Music wise, I prefer Megadeth. But guitar wise from this video, Cat Stevens all the way.
Only paint and inlays that are different, great if you have the money to buy one. When are we getting the Kramer for those who don’t have a massive budget for a Gibson.
Bridge strings through the bottom. ( See bottom of Japan-one ) I would rock the Cat J180, but I prefer the J-200. I played a J-200 Master, and it was the finest guitar I have ever played, and clearly so.
It seems if they would've delivered on the original body paint that it would've been a little more matched with the inlays for the Dave Mustaine V. It may be out of production but wasn't there a John Lennon SJ 200 model a few years ago?not sure but I think the strings pass through the bridge on the Cat Stephen's model. Sort of like a wrap tail .
Think that was a J-160e, George used one too wish I'd got one when they were in production
@@steveparish9210 was asking about John.
I was willing to put some hard-earned dollars down for the green burst but they let me down. Still a good looking guitar but not what I wanted. There is a Kramer prototype that Dave teased on his instagram awhile back that was also in the green-burst. Fingers crossed they actually go through with it.
I love how much I learn from you. I'm a lifelong player and I have no clue about some of this stuff. Like the original Gibson logo.
The strings are ran through the back of the tail piece at an angle up to where you can see them protruding out
Been a year and still no signs of the Kramer Mustaine sig.
I think the Dean Z, the Explorer shaped Dean with the green burst, is the coolest of any of those you displayed tonight. Not moved by any of the others. Just saying…
I like the solid green. My only wish is that it was an even sparklier metalflake.
Trogly, Great info on Gibson 🎸. Keep it up. Would love more documentation of the the acoustic side of Gibson guitar. The SJ200'S u review looked great. Love to see more. Maybe some Hummingbird's or Doves. I'm a daily watcher. Great job!
if you look at what he's been playing onstage lately he's been playing the like almost a port wine colored darker burst version of these guitars. I don't know if it's factory but it probably is I don't think he would have his Tech refinish one of these into a burgundy burst
He is likely playing the Custom Shop versions that will come out in the future
Trogly, you should review a Chet Atkins SST if you can ever find one.
Still waiting for the
Charlie Starr, of
Blackberry Smoke, Signature Series Gibson......lol
I wanna see a double pickguard Gibson Les Paul Special or Junior...lol
I guess Cesar is using his position in the company to bring in his favourite artists. Great to see Kirk and the most famous Burst out there, but then you get guitars which are more famous than their owners, like the Silver Burst and the Wino, and then artists who aren't really associated with the brand, like Sergio Vallins from Maná who plays ESPs or just superstrats and, when he plays Santana's song, a PRS. Why does he get a signature guitar?
And Mustaine? Are we following the tradition that everytime that Metallica makes a great thing, they gotta make a mediocre line featuring Megadeth?
Gibson are doing way better today, but we still get an executive using the brand as his toy... BTW, sponsoring polo teams too?
I'd say the only high up at gibson that has their shit together is Cesar, Pulling Metallica, Megadeth, Alice in Chains, And Tool is not an easy feat for the 2-3 years(I think) hes been at gibson
@@jamesm6083 So now they can become PRS for Guitarists who will only collect guitars which never leave the bedroom. I applaud Kirk's addition to Gibson, but the rest, especially Dave Mustaine's is a joke. Can you associate Megadeth's songs with Gibson? Honestly?
@@jjbast no, but dave aside most artists they recruit at least have a history with gibson, like adam jones, plus dean isnt commonly associated with any artist other than dimebag for the most part
@@jamesm6083 This should be a series called "Guitars more famous than the artist". How about Maná? He is associated with Gibson just because Sergio has a Goldtop somewhere in his collection? No, it is Cesar's decision.
Again... Sponsoring Polo teams? What's next? A mate brand?
The bridge on the Cat Stevens strings through the back of the bridge kinda like a stop tailpiece.
Or the standard Breedlove acoustic bridge. Thanks for the reminder, I still have some Deschutes PAs in the fridge. Time to put in some time on the Jeff Bridges signature... The Dude abides in those guitars!
None of these guitars can I afford. They are all over priced.
i have a feeling that the Crescent moon on the Cat Stevens model is a nod towards his faith. Maybe a groovy reference to the Everlys star and the early Gibson inlay at the same time. i like it.
My little brother listens alot to Stevens, i think that that's a model that Gibson can make as a production model. Players & non-players alike knows who he is. That & a green burst Z knock-off from Gibby would be cool... 😅
Love the Everly brothers and that guitar! But as others have mentioned the185 is more associated with them. That cat Stevens is lovely
I knew somthing was wrong with the v but i didnt even realize it was missing the burst.
I can understand people's disappointment, but I'd still have the green mustaine V, if I could find and afford one🤘
The Cat Stevens looks so good!
No. If I ordered a burst, I want a burst.
Right..... interesting 👍
Had the epiphone early Rothes, wish I'd kept
I also prefer the original design. 😉 I love the inlays though 😍 on the flying V that is.
I'd much rather own that Dean Mustaine Explorer rather than the Gibson V. I see nothing special about that V. It's a green metallic finish with black hardware...yay. 😴
You definitely gotta get the Cat Stevens!!!!
I would like to see a SJ 12-String, I think Gibson made them in the past
Black and white acoustic interesting 🤔
Austin is in His House 🏠 of AWESOME Beautiful Guitars 🎸🎸🎸
Greetings Randy
Randy in the house
The coolest thing is Vic Rattlehead playing the V should have been a green burst though the acoustics are ridiculous prices cash grab Gibsons
That would be so Cool if you documented one of the cat stevens guitars. Good luck I hope you can get your hands on one. If anyone can do it you can. Great video
Z is late. Another day without Chloe.
How long has she been away?
you say shipping damage , but id bet that is packaging and handling damage , once in the shipping box the amout of damage that would have to have to cause what is on the v would be alot
Where is the demo shop / mod collection review this week? Always look forward to that Sunday nights. 😊👍
That one will air tomorrow - I wanted to get the dragon LP and new models video out first. I'm betting we will see more new models get released tomorrow
I wanted one for the burst and the inlay. Now looking at the price, I don’t want it at all.
That bridge is a Everly Brothers own design. It strings through like a top loaded strat or tele.
Gibson shits the bed again. Too bad as Mustaine is one of the all time greats and he deserves way better. Endorsing a player like that and not delivering is such a wasted opportunity.
I think that checking just came like that from the factory, especially after SMGs review of it
I thought the Star and Crescent was a fairly obvious allusion to Islamic symbolism due to Cat/Yusuf being a Muslim.
The funny thing is, it isn't really an Islamic symbol at all, there are some ancient uses of it but the Islamic use originally comes from the Greeks and it was used by the Byzantines who were, of course, conquered by the Ottomans. It's just sort of inadvertently become an Islamic symbol and really only in the latter part of the 20th Century.
I'll be honest, pretty weak run for me. The EXP Vs not having the burst is a huge let down, and they could have at least used some pore filler because some of the examples look a little cheap because of the paintwork.
As for the other two, I'm not really an acoustic guy and they're WAY out of my budget even if there were any left, although the Everly Brothers model looks pretty nice.
Woot woot Trogly's 🙌
Well done, you earned a Silver Medal for your efforts.
Congrats on the Silver Toney and Theresa Elamon
Has anyone else noticed that a lot of the new Les Paul Standards just have completely plain maple tops now instead of AA flamed tops as advertised, and they're still charging the same $2,800?
I dont agree. I just bought one and its amazing
@@mattrobert2426 I did, too. But it's a AAA flame top I had to pay an extra $100 for. But the current normal Standards appear by and large to not have a flame top at all like they did when they first came out.
Cat Stevens for sure.
Agreed
They were all ugly today, but if I have to pick: Cat Stevens.
That cat stevens one caught my eye even tho I cant play an acoustic style lol
Electric green guitar interesting 🤔
Careful using the word "Major" as a negative.
i Loved those Cat Stevens and Everly Brothers guitars... darn it!! i Wish i was rich
Me too!
Did anyone see Glen Frickers video on his review of one of these!!?? HORRIBLE QC!! Figures the one that has the problems ends up in his hands!🤣 he has another scheduled today for the Line 6 Catalyst I wonder how that's gonna go!🤣😉 my bet its gonna end up a broken relic condemned to his studio wall!!🤣
Cat Steven's hasn't been called Cat Steven's for years, or did he change back? He converted to Islam back in the '70's and changed his name to Yusef Islam. I think he was always religious, his biggest hit is Morning has Broken, which is actually a hymn, we used to sing it at assembly in my primary school back in the 1970's.The crescent moon and star on the headstock would also be a nod to his Islamic connection too, because as well as being Gibson's old logo, it's also a symbol of Islam, like the cross is to Christianity, although the crescent moon is normally pointing the other way when used as an Islamic symbol.
I was just writing in here that Cat Stevens played one too.... but then you mentioned it lol. Typical! I think Gibson acoustics are way overpriced nowadays but I do like the old 60's Doves & Humming Birds. If my old J-200 ever gives up the ghost, I reckon I'll probably look for a decent used one of them.
Have you seen what a new (Great sounding)Martin cost ? The Gibson's give you more for your money. Got Martin CEO 7 and hummingbird. The Gibson sounds much better to my ears. Not trying to be a dick.. just my opinion 🤷.
They should've just done a solid green to begin with, that burst was fucking horrible. It looked like what the damn silverbursts turn into after 30 years if they put Pelham Blue on the edges.
Hell yeah!
You made tonight’s podium and captured the Bronze Medal.
Congrats on the Bronze Adam
I really do hope Gibson and Dave do an Explorer
If I had pre-ordered something with the expectation that what I was promised was what I was going to get and had a multi-million dollar corporation try to pull a switcheroo for no good reason, they would be getting it back with the instruction to either re-spray it at their cost or shove it somewhere uncomfortable wide end first.
I love Gibson but they are a horrifically dysfunctional organisation, and we're STILL waiting for the Mustaine Kramer. It can't be that hard to work a CNC machine!
Did you see Cesar playing the adam Jones epiphone?
You should get the Cat Stevens one!
Gibson county handle the painting of a burst.. just ask Glenn about it.
