Some info on fish on UA-cam is really boring because the way people talk and I usually turn the videos off... But you just make me want to watch more!! Great info and don't get boring you made it sound fun :) thanks
+JoshIsBoss972 That's awesome! Glad you dig our videos! Tons more content coming so stay tuned!
Any videos on fishless cycling?
FOR REAL THOUGH! SO TRUE BRO!
When are we gonna add the fish.... Not right now! i laughed so hard!
Fahd Khan 😂😂😂
I should have showed this video to son before setting up his first aquarium. :) It's informative and entertaining. Keep it up!
@@FJR00 it's basically worthless. He says 24-48hours is enough to cycle the tank, ridiculous. And the filter that came with this set is just garbage and he doesn't even comment on it. Anyone with a basic understanding of filters know that this filter is trash. And he sets up a tank like this with nothing but plastic. Tasteless. This is a proper aquarium full of life, not just a bunch of plastic: ua-cam.com/video/g0wbUpVCiLM/v-deo.html
I always love fish tanks for decoration! Getting one tomorrow. I can’t express how much I enjoy seeing the fish live in a world I created for them! Seeing the little creatures venture around in the foliage and decorations I put there is an amazing experience. I have helped decorate a couple of different tanks, but I can’t wait to personalize my own little fish world!
Yes, I know that maintenance is also very important!
I've been watching lots of UA-cam videos in preparation of possible fish keeping. And you are the first one to suggest checking if the stand is level. Thanks a lot for adding to my knowledge. You have a new subscriber!
Wow, thanks so much! We're crazy happy that you're enjoying our vids!
I really liked how friendly and informative this video is for beginners.
This is a good starting point for life-long hobbyists to be.
Thanks so much! Glad to hear this!
Awesome video - you're the best! Best editing, best information, fun and funny! Thank you for taking the time to create such great videos...it's truly appreciated...
Big Al’s is my favourite pet store because I bought my turtle and my gecko from there and they give you the most and best advice so listen carefully it’s worth it!
This was so straight forward and much easier to follow than others I have watched. Thank you! The one big step I missed and was never told until I started doing more research is the wait before you add the fish. My daughters picked out some nice neon tetras which died within hours because I didn't know about the waiting part.
you must wait 1-2 months before adding fish
@@jenson1569ou are wrong you have to wait atleast 72 hours to add shrimp and snails and 96 hours to add hardy fish about normal and hard to care fish u need atleast 168 hours aka a week
@@aero1614 jeez 11 months ago, shrimp 72 hours? if its not cycled there gonna die quickly
Id say 2-3 weeks for it to properly cycle
you have to wait at least a week or 2 untill you get fish
Thank you so much for this video
Best fish tank tutorial ever. Every one I’ve seen take hours getting to the point lol
Thanks! Just set up my first tank and it looks good. Subscribed🤙🤙
one of the best aquarium-related youtube channel. keep up the good work and have fun!
+ariff izzuddin - Thanks! Glad you're enjoying our work and that you noticed we're having way, WAY too much fun making these videos.
This channel is made for me 😊 love it thank you! 🐠🐠🐠
I swear this is the easiest to understand aquarium video. Thank you!
You kind of remind me of the pirate from spongebob? Lol not meant to be a rude comment I swear!
😂😂 patchy!!
Iy iy Captain
Watched two vids so far and I like this dude
Great info for people coming into the hobby. Keep up the great work!
David Garcia Thanks so much! We hope it will be helpful for those looking to set up an aquarium!
Good job bro on all the tips keep the great videos coming
Thank u! I'm new to the fish world and this was helpful
Great video !!!! Easy step by I love it very informative!
Super helpful video. Thanks!
I am starting a new freshwater tank. My pH level seems to be reading 7.6. Do I need to be concerned? I have purchased almost everything from you. Thanks for the great service!
You make the best videos on aquarium tips I have seen on you tube. Thanks very much.🌈🌹™️
The fish tank is fantastic!!
I like to put the air stone in the aquarium before the substrate. I love the air stone that is along the background for a nice effect. I like the Marineland bio-wheel power filter because it is better engineered than most other filters. However, I like live plants, even though it requires more maintenance.
Thank you , you got to the point fast.. some people here also gave some good tips
Oh man, that beard is AMAZING
Is there a way to add a timer to that aquarium to have a switch from daylight to moonlight back to daylight automatically or does that switch having it set on one or the other make that impossible?
So I have water conditioner I’m just wondering what type of bacteria supplement to start the tank would you recommend?
I have that aquarium set! I like it because it came with a lot of helpful things. But I highly suggest not getting that filter. It's very loud and barely works. I like the Aquaclear brand filters. :)
***** Sure! What kind of info do you need?
+Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Herbert Camacho it's not loud it's just the water hitting the surface that can be loud
Justin Beaver My filter is a Aqueon Whisper 10. I have been using it for more than 3 years already and it is still working fine!
Stella Bieber I have 2 penguin 350s and don't hear anything and I put media in the back
How much did it cost
i jst set mine up! i will get the fish wen the parameters are right im so excited!
for attaching aquarium backgrounds rubbing a thin layer of petroleum jelly on the outside of the tank can help non-permanently adhere the background to the tank clearly without having to buy a specialty product.
Thanks! Very helpful!!
My dad used to work at Big Al's, and that is the exact 20 gal that I have! First video luck XD Its a nice tank, but I am switching it when I upgrade to my 55 so I can use it for feeder fish
Why Did he stop Working from Big Al's? 😀
great video as always! i have a question for ya. so if you use cycled filter and filter media is it safe to put fish instantly? i am upgrading my 5g tank to 20g. and was just wondering.
This shows the components of a tank well, but there's no way the tank is ready for fish after 24 hours. This video should link to a basic "how to cycle your tank" video.

Just found your channel, you are absolutely hilarious and great videos Al.
Thank u guys so much for these amazing and helpful vids
your welcome
I’m interested in getting a fish tank! And this is by far one of the best start up videos I’ve seen so far! SUBSCRIBED!!!
Thanks so much-- we're so happy to have you! Happy Holidays!
Thank you! Happy holidays to you too!
I just got this exact tank😊 It is heavily planted with my betta in it
Have a few questions for you, or anyone else that has experience:
I had tanks for many years back in the 80s - 90s. but have been away from it since. I'm thinking of setting one up again, but things seem to have changed quite a bit since I was into it. Tank wise, I'm prob going with 29 gal to 35 gal. Having looked at a few filters, I'm thinking of going with Aquaclear Power filter. Would it be wise to go with one rated higher than the tank size? Say an Aquaclear 50 vs Aquaclear 30 for a 29 gal tank? Also When I was researching filters, I noticed there aren't a lot of under-gravel filters these days. They were really common when I was into it back in the 80s. Is there a reason for that?
Great videos!
thanks for guide really helpfull
Thankyou so much for that......the only thing I didn't do was add the bacterial liquid . My 2 ranchus are great and still alive after a month. When I first bought them they were very timid. They used to swim and hide in the corner when I first had them whenever you lifted the lid up. Now they are cheeky......I always open the lid to feed them and they now come too me.
So I have a question. I didn’t wait to put in my fish in the tank and they all died. How do I get Rid if amonia and nitrites after I already have my tank set up? Do I have to change 100% of the water and get a new filter? Or can I just leave it and wait a few days. Or should I do like a 50% water change and leave my old filter?
For a new freshwater tank can you get the ammonia, nitrite, nitrate levels right by only using conditioner and beneficial bacteria without introducing a fish for the ammonia level? Also, do you recommend putting in ammonia to start the cycle?
great video for beginners
big als is the best
I can't believe you didn't mention to do a full fishless cycle....wow
Thank you! This is the 1st "How To" video NOT SPEAKING OVER MY HEAD!
Hey big als I'm getting the LED 29 from the Hamilton store!
Use drift wood and live plants
I see this written a lot, but I think most people won't know what is meant by driftwood. Most driftwood floats. What works best for me, is going to a swimming hole and finding not rotten sticks that is so saturated it stay sunk on the bottom of the water. Beginners might not understand.
New subscriber thank you for these helpful tips
Hi, I've just started to setup a 60 litre hexagon aquarium and i want to put guppies & neon tetra in it. The problem is where i live in Cyprus in the Mediterranean the temperature is hot 40c!!! the temperature in the aquarium is now showing 29.6c if i put fish in it will it be dangerous for them? i haven't got a heater on!! what can i do?? love your channel great help for so many subjects keep up the great videos!! Thanks Nick.
any suggestions about taking care of angelfish? Like the water temperature, what size of a tank should I have (I'm planning on having three now) and any special plants I should have for them, I already have one angelfish and it's my first time having one so, any tips? :)
I set up my tank and found a great spot, however after I it's fully set up with water etc. I remembered checking if it's level. Side to side is fine but back to front is not. It's not the base but rather the floor. What do I do now. The back is slightly higher than the front.
Thanks for nice video.. Can you please tell me medicine name that you put for bacteria and ammonia...
Without even planning it I bought this very same kit!
About the heater I got one that runs inside the filter would that be enough for a 290 l tank it’s a 1000w
Wait a minute soo imma get a fish in my bday and its my firsf rime getting one so once we wait for 24 hrs do we leave the fish in the bag??
Thank you. Veey helpful.
Does it matter if the filter is in the center of the tank or on the side of the back of the tank? We have a 40 gallon tank and reset it in the center of the back because it is a double filter but curious because everything we ever see the filters are to one side or the other
Hey, I have a 33 gallon tank and I'm starting to introduce live plants, but there staring to turn brown. Is there anyway I can turn the plant back as it was looking in its original state?
My parents are making me wait to weeks but we set up the tank last week and were going to test the water if it is safe for fish and if so we will get fish
How did it go? It's good to add a small amount of fish food to the unpopulated tank, as this will help the nitrifying bacteria get established.
@@ryanm7263 lol he probly killed his fish
@@hemingway5613 that was a year back lol
I think it should be cycled by now, tell your parents you can add the fish now.
@@JokobZuma Lol!!
Your video is really awesome 👏
You should actually wait 5-8 weeks before putting any fish in the tank and that is after you’ve tested the ph, nitrite, nitrate, and ammonia levels in the tank
awesome info. i enjoyed your personality too. cheers
Do you have any special suggestions for setting up a gold fish aquarium?
looks good
Very helpful
Watched a TON of beginner pet videos today with my 5 year old son. While a lot of the hosts were experts and clearly passionate about their respective creatures, this guy was the best! Video (production) was really well done. We're off to get some fish!
Can I add bacterial supplement after adding my fish? I did not know I should add it when setting up the aquarium.
well what if you fill it up with nottles spring water, would you be able yo add the fish quicker?
Beautiful tank maybe i will get this tank
Now how would you to the basic maintenance on this beautiful tank?
I have the same tank. Would it be fine if I just use the day light during the day for about 8 hours and use the moon light during the night?
great video, i take it that your main target audience is going to be people with little to no experience with aquariums like me and really thought you should recommend adding a drip loop to all of the power cords coming out of the aquarium to prevent water from making its way to a power outlet.
So, I’m going to get an Albino Rainbow shark. They’re absolutely beautiful, but are the best tankmates louches, guppies, tetras, platties, angel fish and tiger/cherry barbs? I’m not putting this much in my tank, I’ll be narrowing it down prob to tetras, louches, and angel fish
New fan here..You just made me wanting for more videos 😊
2 thumbs up 😊
How many partial water changes should you do to a 20 gallon tank that has tropical fish in it?
I would also note if that is we're you are planning to put your tank to instill a GFI plug to protect so water does not case a electrical fire.
Just liked and subscribed to your channel your awesome .... my question to you is how high do I fill up the filter with water
I just bought a tank recently and have setted it as followed from several videos. After 48 hours of cleaning filling it up with water, it started to smell funny and I'm not sure what the smell is, i thought it smelt like ammonia. Is this normal?
Is a heater absolutely necessary if my apartment's central are is set at 69? What about if I boost it to 75?
Does anyone know the name of the video where they show you how to decorate an aquarium ? The video is not able to be clicked on mobile
Do I have to wash a sponge for the filter or no?
Big Al's i have a question
Is it okay for a 20gallon aquarium to have 3 air producing bubbles? I have 1 blacknight filter on the left side, and in the middle i have 1 24" air stone and on the right side i have a sponge filter. .
All three of them produces bubbles. .
Is it okay for my Fishes?
*Liked and Subbed*
I live in east asia, do i still need a termometer?
What do you use for the supplements again?
how long do I wait until I add fish after the bacterial supplement
Please make a video on how to start up a beginner low-tech planted tank!
I bought a bunch of the plastic plants from Al's Aquarium online and now they have all come out of the base . I tried gluing them back in but it doesnt hold. What glue can I use to put these back together and last . I am really not happy with all the stuff I bought because of this. I have never had this happen before
You got that beard thing nailed.
Do you have a link for the whole set
do you have to have some type of bubbles in your tank?
I was told to wait 6-8 weeks for bacterial growth even with a supplement. I have a 46 gallong tank... is that too much ?
Great video+
Big als always trusted (:
I just ordered a Fluval Flex 9 gallon to replace my 5 gallon from Big ALS nice Aquarium
