    Hey that's a really great tank I was wondering if you ever thought of using live plans. Plenty of great plants that you can use that feed off the water column.
    And of course your API products are not great.
    I live in Taiwan I actually don't need to use like products like that I pretty much let the water sit for 3 days and then I use almond leaves to soften the water
    Everything pretty much stays stable as far as pH.

    I will be setting up my first aquarium later this week.
    Question: how can you get an ammonia spike if there is no fish, food or waste in the aquarium?
    If I add about 6 live plants, using API quick start, API tap water conditioner, will my aquarium cycle take the same amount of time if using plastic decor ?
    Btw very informative video, thank you!

    • @electricblueaquariums4821
      @electricblueaquariums4821  3 роки тому +6

      You shouldn’t get an ammonia spike without fish, fish food, or waste in the aquarium. You should add water conditioner which may take 5-15 min to condition the water it won’t hurt to let it run a little longer then add quick start. But then u will need some form of waste to feed the beneficial bacteria or it will just die off. Im not sure if either will speed up the cycle. The plastic decor will supply more surface area for bacteria but the live plants will help use up nitrates.

      Dave L if you use city water then u will need to add conditioner for sure every time. I only use stress when adding to new tank. I add quick start when cleaning a sponge filter or other filter media to help seed new bacteria. I never clean/change all my filter media at once,I rotate to make sure there is always enough bacteria

    Very informative video. Got a 10 gl tank with all the setup, added conditioner and quick start. After 24 hours took the sample to store and they said water is fine. Got 2 glow fish and they died in few hours. Do I need to cycle the water more? Like that ammonia nitrite and nitrate thing?

    • @electricblueaquariums4821
      @electricblueaquariums4821  3 роки тому +4

      I’m assuming that if they died that quick it’s not from ammonia, nitrates, or nitrites. How long was your trip from the fish store? How long did you float the bag before adding your fish to your tank? And what temp is your tank at? Also what did the fish look like before they died… any white spots, bloated stomach or ripped up fins, anything that would indicate they are not healthy?

    Hello thanks for the simple video I’ve been so confused. I impulsively bought a Betta fish today and haven’t cycled my tank I’ve conditioned my water and have added some beneficial bacteria I got in a Betta Starter set do I still need to buy the API quick start to accelerate the cycling process. And will my betta survive for a week or so in a small tank with no filter while the tank cycles? Thanks !

    • @electricblueaquariums4821
      @electricblueaquariums4821  3 роки тому +3

      If you bought another brand of beneficial bacteria that should start the cycle. How big is your tank? If it’s 2.5 gallon the ammonia and nitrite may accumulate fastest than the just added bacteria can consume it. If it’s a 10 gallon or larger and you only have a betta then you would have much longer for ammonia and nitrite to get to toxic levels. Quick start won’t hurt, I always add two brands of bacteria to my tanks. I would test the water and make sure ammonia and nitrite doesn’t get to toxic levels and water change if needed. I also would have a filter on the tank even with only a betta, it will aerate the water, remove larger particles and give more surface area for beneficial bacteria to grow.

    • @electricblueaquariums4821

    I’m not sure if I got this right but it do you have to wait weeks before you put your fish in there and is that a good system for just regular goldfish?

    • @electricblueaquariums4821
      @electricblueaquariums4821  2 роки тому

      Waiting depends on how large the tank is and how large the fish are, also the quantity of fish put in the tank. The problem comes if you have too many or too large of fish and the beneficial bacteria can’t keep up with the waste those fish produce. So add some type of quick start or even 2 different beneficial bacterias and add fish slowly that should greatly reduce any problems like ammonia burn. Also yes this applies to all types of fish.

      If the water has been treated with conditioner, and then you waited about 15 min at least then you added quick start I would just add the betta to the tank. Watch the ammonia, nitrate and nitrites. If they get out of hand do water changes. And eventually your tank will cycle with the betta in it. Testing the water often and water changes when needed will keep him safe.

    I have a 6" air stone, one of those standard blue ones. I have an air pump that is apparently non adjustable. It's a15 gallon tank, an IQ Whisper external filter, sized for up to 20 gal tanks. I just have a couple platys in the tank, building up slowly.
    Do you think there's too much current between the filter and the 6" air stone? I have the filter at a very low setting.
    Sorry for the rant and thank you very much if you do happen to answer this!

    If I missed this in the questions below, I apologize.
    I’ve never seen a mat placed underneath the fish tank. I love that idea. Where did you get it?

      I have always been putting something like a towel under the tank which I learned from my dad, the yoga mat idea many people on UA-cam use I think I probably got it from kingofdiy, he’s my favorite to learn from.

    really a good one to learn from Thanks Man. How long shall i wait to add fish in tank if i use quick start? Please make a video for water change and maintenance and all the basic stuffs to keep fish healthy . Thanks in advance.

    • @electricblueaquariums4821
      @electricblueaquariums4821  3 роки тому

      A week or 2 if you can but the bottle says you can add right away. I usually give the bacteria time to establish.

      @@electricblueaquariums4821 so I need to do setup as u explained in this video . Dechlorinated water then add beneficial bacteria as per the bottle then wait for at least 7 days before adding fish. Anything that I am missing here plz let me know!! And also how shall I take care afterwards?? Water change and all the essential liquids to add while changing the water . Pls guide thanks

    • @electricblueaquariums4821
      @electricblueaquariums4821  3 роки тому

      I would say do 20% water changes 1-2 times a month treating water before adding if possible but not necessary. If u see problems with the water/tank or problems with the fish more water changes may be needed

    I have some questions. Does this set up and liquids work for glow fish? How do I go about changing the water since I think I have been over feeding and my water is cloudy? And also where would I place the mesh coil bags for taking all the cloudiness away?

  • @kennybHoldin
    @kennybHoldin 2 роки тому +2

    When I did this my water got cloudy I didn't use the caps safaris to measuring cups I'm wondering if this is a problem or should I just start all the way over

    • @electricblueaquariums4821
      @electricblueaquariums4821  2 роки тому

      Sometimes it gets cloudy when aquariums are being established. It’s a normal part of the nitrogen cycle and beneficial bacteria becoming established.

    • @electricblueaquariums4821

      Add some more beneficial bacteria it will help clear it up.

    So for a 30 gallon tank you would put 30 lbs of substrate? You said a pound per gallon but it seems like a lot

    • @electricblueaquariums4821
      @electricblueaquariums4821  Рік тому +1

      it seems like a lot but yes in my bio cube that is 32 gallons i used 3 10lb bags and i feel it could have used a few more.
