Great albums! I love the BB but I prefer the later stuff post Pet Sounds. David Bowie! Yes! You mentioned Lou Reed. What is your favorite album by him. I love that Joni album too. The Dead are amazing. So happy I saw them live. From The Mars Hotel and Wake Of The Flood are two of my favorites. Talking Heads! Yes! REM rules. I got into them with the album, Green.
Right.. I love other Beach Boys as well.. It's just that as a very young kid.. That was my only Beach Boys record ! I found Beach Boys Party out in the woods at Lake Tahoe in 6th Grade, that was an epic find ! The Dead are best as a live band.. A lot of fans will prefer live shows to studio LP's.. I get it, though.. and after Jerry passed.. I listened to more studio stuff, and Mars Hotel and Wake Of The Flood are about my favorites, as well ! "Row Jimmy" !!!! :Love it ! So.. "Rock And Roll Animal" is the album of Lou's that we listened to the most.. but I would have to say that... Rock And Roll Animal is my fav ! Haha !! 😊Transformer, next ! Thanks, Chris.
What a great idea to show your most listened to records in a personal and historic manner. You've definitely got some of the best albums that were influential in your early years, even Little Feat, which is one band that I am a latecomer to. I hardly even heard of them back in my "formative" years, but I love them now. Love the stories too, especially about the Bob Marley concert. What an experience that must have been. Great albums!
I almost always take a personal historic angle in my video's. Even newer records are nostalgic in the way that I will remember where I picked up a record, who was with me.. That sort of thing ! The Wailers are gonna be good ! They are playing "The Best In The West" Rib Cook off here in Sparks.. It's a huge event, and The Wailers are playing the last day during our employee party under the VIP tent , Labor Day, Monday !
Thanks, Mike.. Hope you come through Reno, someday ! I warned my wife that eventually I might have a friend or two roll through town, as we as a family are always doing something ! I look forward to you, or any of our friends showing up here in Reno.. Even for an hour meet up if you or anyone of us in the VC is on the road going somewhere else.
I like the selection and your history related to these records. I grew up in France in the 90s though i listened to a lot of Beatles, Led Zeppelin and Hendrix albums back in the days and still do. I guess people who experienced the 60s and 70s were blessed. It's amazing the way kids today still know the bands and music from this era and that we're still "processing" 50 years later the amazing amount of music, art and movies that was produced then. Cheers from Canada
Thank you for this nice comment, and it's so true that younger folks love the old music that we are still processing.. a great way to put it ! And there are so many good bands still to discover from the different decades ! This vinyl community has been a blast , the learning, collecting. and chatting with good people like you ! Are you in Quebec ? 🤔
Well done. The Bob Dylan record ... i was 13 in '71 when my 19 year old sister bought it. ... sweet memories. You have a wonderful humble way of expressing your love of music.
Thank you for that nice compliment ! Most of my records came from my older sister and her boyfriend, Ed, when I was 13 as well ! To this day, I can remember every single album that they left out, always allowing me to play their records ! The debut Sabbath through my Dad's new headphones were mind - blowing ! Appreciated 🎵
Tony.. This thread only touches the surface ! Traffic " Low Spark" and Leon Russell " Shelter People" and Dan Hicks & His Hot Licks " Where's The Money" is a record that I played the most of all ! If you haven't heard this one, please listen, when you have time. It's Dan's best , ever ! ( recorded at The Troubadour L.A. ) 🥲
Wow, JT! I spent nearly every summer in Costa Mesa! My aunt and uncle lived off Santa Isabella and Norse, just past Orange. They were about a 1/2 mile from the Back Bay. I bought a few of my early LPs at Pier Records in Newport Beach. Bought my first surfboard at Jack’s. My uncle would drop us off at Balboa at 7:00 AM every morning on his way to work which was Ford Aerospace. He’s one of the patent engineers on the Sidewinder Missile project. I have so many great memories from Costa Mesa and Newport. Your most listened to selection would make an amazing compilation record! Thanks for sharing. Bless your sister for being so nice to her brother. 😊🫶🏽
Michele was always nice to me ! Especially with her records that I loved. We only lived in Costa Mesa for 2 years.. My Dad was on the crew that opened the Newporter Inn.. We returned often, through the years ! Great memories at Big Corona.. Especially the music blaring out of the transistor radios ! Thanks, Steve !
It was fun.. I looked forward to doing a response to this popular thread. I could have showed any of the many cool records I have discovered later.. but this was more important to me with a handful of meaningful records, to me..
I was so blessed to see most of your album picks live around the time these albums were released, especially Neil Young’s solo concert at the Royal Festival Hall in 1971 and Joni Mitchell at the Isle of Wight festival 1970, Greatful Dead at Hollywood Music Festival,oh and Talking Heads at the Roundhouse 1977, Elvis Costello at the Nashville Rooms Kensington. Can remember the sea change of music in 1976 when punk came along, the audience changed as did the fashions saw so many bands over the years! Memories 😊 Great vlog John 🙏
Incredible, Roy ! What year did you see The Dead ? To have seen all of these artists at their musical peak, and powers, how wonderful ! My favorites that you mentioned that you saw.. would have been Talking Heads and Elvis Costello ! Thank you for watching ! ✌
Hi JT!!! cool list of more than ten record you listen the most and glad to hear also about how you got into those releases, btw it's a very eclectic group of albums having Sex Pistols, Bowie, Beach Boys, Little Feat, Dylan, N. Young, Talking Heads, R.E.M. cheers and be well
I love the way you approached this JT. The JT timeline was a great way to get across what you were listening to at the time. The Beatles story with your Sister and Mum was excellent. So many albums in there which also mean a lot to me, Elvis (also my fav Elvis album), The Pistols, The Clash, Bowie (fantastic album). This was a super video JT, thanks so much for sharing your happy listening memories. Mike
Thank you, Mike.. I waited to find a good time to do this thread, and I knew I didn't want to do, and could not do it in ten ! I'm a rule breaker from way back ! Haha. Too many records left out ! I failed to say, some of these aren't my favorites by bands.. The debut Clash is my fav, even over London calling , for instance ! ✌
Hey JT! Awesome awesome list of most pulled records! You have such an amazing taste in music and your collection is tops! The inclusion of Bowie’s Hunky Dory made my day! Such a great LP! My most played Bowie is Low and believe it or not Pin Ups! I just recently acquired Hunky Dory so it’s on its way to making it right up there! Some Girls is a Stones Masterpiece! There was a summer of my senior year in high school that I really got into the Stones We listened to Some Girls and my most played Stones LP Tattoo You! I’m glad you picked Talking Heads Speaking in Tongues as everyone picks their other LPs but that one is special! Every time I hear Bob Marley “One Love” or “Woman No Cry” I nearly weep! I went to Jamaica way back when and it changed my life! Those songs are so moving! The Pistols! Yes! Man I spun the crap out of that album Not sure why it didn’t make my most played list?!? Good to see ya JT! I still drop in as much as I can my friend! Much Love brother! ✨✌️👽✨
Low and Pin Ups are fantastic.. It's just that "Man Who Sold The World" Ziggy" and "Hunky Dory" were all very recent records and us stoner kids just were all over that Sh*#t !!! LoL ! Early Mothers and "Just another band From L.A." is so funny.. and while partaking in some herbal refreshment.. it was even funnier ! "Billy The Mountan" and "Call Any Vegetable".. The album is satire of the greater Los Angeles area back in the earlt 1970's ! Glad you're with me on "No Woman No Cry" Vincent Ford really didn't write it.. Bob was trying to help him out, and Bob was having tax troubles.. So he rolled off the songwriting credits to Vincent.. I think you know that one ! Great to hear from you , Brian 🤓
Love R.E.M. early - Green. Fortunate to see them in the early days with Lone Justice, the D.B.'s, and Radiohead as opening bands. They were absolutely my 80's Band as I graduated in 85'. Love your Channel J.T.! And btw, I too love the Dead, especially 77' & 79' era with Brent tickling the keys...
Brent was soo awesome ! Very cool that you saw The Db's Lone Justice, and REM early on .. Wow ! 1980 is such a favorite year for me with The Dead, and at least I caught them at Oakland Auditorium 12/27/81 I walked in and stood right under Brent wailing away on "Red Rooster" !!! I was hooked and had my face stolen right there and then ! LoL !!! Thanks so much.
@@jtsrecordroom3963 Awesome J.T. thanks for all your shares. You have turned me on to some great music that I was never aware of....Best wishes from Texas!
@jtsrecordroom3963 I saw your piece on Josey's in Dallas. They are some good guys. I go to Josey about once a month. If you ever are in Dallas again, Recycled Books in Denton is great for used vinyl and cds. I go there as well about once a quarter. Love your Far East hauls as well as Bill's Garage. You really hit a honey hole!!!
@jtsrecordroom3963 Finally, J.T. if you are ever in Austin, check out Waterloo Records. The vibe is amazing, and they often have in store appearances from great artists ✌️
JT, My musical experiences are similar to yours. I had two older girl cousins who let me hang with them playing 45's. Two older guy cousins taught me to take care of records and a few guitar chords. Benefit and Hunky Dory! I went a little heavy in the early 70's, Sabbath, Purple, etc. This is one of my favorite videos of yours, brings back good memories! Thanks!
I listened to hard rock as well, back then as well as the ones I mentioned.. Too many great records to trim it down to ten.. I'm a rule breaker, I went way over to 16, with mentions of other records ! LoL !! Ralph.. Thank you so much.. I got passionate about this thread and wanted to go way back with my ten most played records ! ✌
Hey there Mr. JT ~~~ This vid was my intro to you and your channel. Great job, thanks for posting !! I like how you relate all your album picks to your personal story. I'm about your age, born '58, ~~~and you surprised me with the info about Bob Marley's lead guitarist and Elvis's lead guitarist on "MAIT".
Hey James.. Thanks for looking in on my channel ! My main deal is that I thrift a lot, and have had very good luck scoring clean records as low as 25 cents each ! I do buy new vinyl, and records that I want through Discogs or e bay, although I prefer to buy from local indie shops.. Cheers ! 🫡
Thank you ! I was anxious to do a response to this thread, it takes me awhile to get around to filming videos these days. I really enjoyed putting this together, although.. so many other LP's that could be included in a most listened to ! See you, Rod..🫡
What a stack! You certainly do find merit in any Stones album. Hunky Dory is my favourite Bowie album. Ah! There it is - Dead Set. The album that introduced me to them. So great. And Feat? What a great stack of favourites, JT. Fun video. Cheers, Jeff
Well.. Some Stones albums have been a little weak, still with a few gems scattered here and there ! Hunky Dory was our Anthem, pretty much, along with the other two greats.. Ziggy, and " Man Who Sold The World ! 1973 was filled with listening to those three, along with so many other great LP's of that time.. Thanks for looking in on this one !
Yes yes ! I failed to say that some of these weren't necessarily my absolute favorite of each artist/ bands.. That Beach Boys was my only record by them, and actually my only LP besides a few 45's ! I got an early start, and spoke to my sister about "Meet The Beatles".. It was her 10th B Day.. March 1964 !! She helped elaborate a bit, although I have vivid memories. Isn't it cool that music helps tie in the memories ! Thanks, Brian.
Loved your picks. R.E.M’s “Life’s Rich Pageant” was such a seminal album for me and basically my intro to the band. Wore that cassette out and routinely listen to CD and spin vinyl formats. “The Flowers of Guatemala”….whew…magical stuff
I can't agree more ! Chronic Town hooked me when I first heard it in the early 80s. It wasn't until I bought Life's Rich Pageant on cassette and made a conscience effort to soak it up while driving on interstate 80 back to Tahoe.. That's when the band really clicked for me. At that point.. I needed everything by REM !
JT all killer no filler. You grew up in so many beautiful places. Your memories accompanying these selections were so cool 😎. I grew up in smoky steeltown Pittsburgh. Thankfully the Steelers were so good 😊. Great thread entry. Greg
Two of my best friends are from Western PA !! The Steelers made it worth it, and you have the 3 rivers.. and tons of great music, and famous musicians are from Steel Town ! Thanks for checking this out..
It has been interesting how peoples listening are so different Most of my albums came out of the 80s but that is when I finally had money to start buying albums to listen to
What a great time to start buying records, Steve.. The 80's ! I would love to do another of these for all of the many cool bands that I discovered after 1981 .. Can't do it in ten, though.. LoL !! 🧐
OMG, we must be roughly the same age. I can't say that I have had the same experience as you but the albums you showed had a massive impact on me. Long live rock and roll!!
I'm glad that you can relate ! I looked at so many other albums to use for this video, but these were ones that I knew. I literally.. wore out on Cassette LoL !!! 😁 ( and have most of them on 3 formats ).
Hi JT, I actually worked for a company on Harbor Blvd in Santa Ana and remember it well. It ran from Costa Mesa right into Santa Ana. I have that Neil Young album among many of his others. I love Traffic and need to explore the Dave Mason solo stuff as I haven't done that yet. "Some Girls" at that point the Stones were on such a roll! I have a copy of "Dead Set" on compact disc. So good. I have a copy of "Waiting for Columbus" and it's one of my favorite Live albums. Being a completist with Marley, I of course have that Live album as well. I had no idea on that Al Anderson (Berklee School Of Music) trivia! That upcoming concert sounds like a great time for you! For "Combat Rock" I am a huge fan of side 2. Rounding things out nicely with "My Aim Is True"...some excellent anecdotes throughout this video JT. Very enjoyable. ✌
I have vivid memories from Costa Mesa / Newport Beach ! Dad Opened The Newporter Inn.. That's why we moved there in '63 .. What a perfect time to be down there, Mike ! Pick up a copy of "Alone Together" and "Headkeeper".. soo good , and you can get them for cheap ! "Feats Don't Fail Me Now" is actually my favorite Little Feat ( 1974 ).. What a record ! Steely Dead Mike.. They were so tight in '81doing that run of shows in preparation for their upcoming live album.. Dead Set ! It's livelier than "Steal Your Face" or "Europe '72" See you Bro.. and thanks !
@doodahdavesrecords4319 Exactly !! Al will be here in Reno/ Sparks fronting the Original Wailers, as they call themselves. We are going.. It's at the " Best In The West Rib Cook Off.. They are the main act this year. It is my wife's employee party in the VIP tent, we're front and center !
Meet The Beetles - I loved that album as a kid. I still have the used copy I bought as a young teen. All of the focus is usually on Pet Sounds; the early singles are brilliant. The Capitol Swirl 45s sound amazing, they are cut so hot. Brian would sit at his piano and map out those very sophisticated vocal harmonies. Most likely playing Four Freshmen albums in the background- truly genius. We listen to a lot of the same artists. Talking Heads, Neil Young, REM - I play those bands all the time. Great stuff, Jt.
I'm right here in my office.. I'm glad you have a copy of "Stack O Tracks" Funny story.. JC tried to get me to trade, buy or give it to Jeff Witcher.. I wasn't gonna budge, and I could tell that Jeff did not expect me to give it up ! ( They were on a live chat ) JC Was persistent for his Bro !!
I had to do more than ten records ! It looked odd, just laying out 10..Too many holes to fill. I will be good, and keep my record mailer box sealed this time.. I am so bad, and was worse at Christmas as a kid !
You have some great picks. My introduction to Bob Dylan was his first Greatest Hits album and would probably be my most listened to album if I had included compilation albums. That Bob Marley Live album was the first album I got by him and the live version of “No Woman No Cry” is the best. Great REM journey.
It will be fun to see The Wailers on Labor Day here in town ! That first Dylan Greatest Hits is so very good ! "I Want You" "Just Like A Woman" on and on.."No Woman No Cry" and "Like A Rolling Stone" are my top ten all-time songs, for sure ! Thanks, Randy..
Jt, love these videos, especially those from friends who started listening in the 60s and beyond. Great stories along with the albums. I think you mentioned more than 10 😉. Cheers.
I'm a rule breaker from way back ! Haha.. What's the penalty ? Do I have to buy more records !! LoL ! I put that in my notes.. more than 10 ! Thanks, Jack.. Bon Voyage 🫡
Johnny baby! This is such a fun video. ❤ We sure had music going thru our house. I'll never forget Mom bringing home "Meet the Beatles". I thought I was going to pass out! Do you remember my girlfriends were all doating on you. There were at least 10 girls at my birthday slumber party. 🎉
I have been exited about getting this one done.. even reletevely new records have nostalgia about them, remembering how and where I discovered this or that band/ artist ! Too many records left out, Jamie.. That's why I broke the rules !! Hehe😆 Funny you mention The Heads DMM.. I did a shoot-out between my Sire US press and the DMM.. Very close, but I will be keeping the German wax over the other ! I'm still gonna give ypu a big fat shout-out, since I only do one video a week, I take my time on placing stuff. 🫡
@@jtsrecordroom3963 yeah this was one of my favourites I loved the stories behind the choices. Haha what a rebel! I did mine focussing on the last 2-3 years, but you got me thinking I need to do an all-time top 10 as well, and I would think only Definitely Maybe would be in both lists tbh so it’s a valid exercise! A shout out would be amazing, thank you sir - growth is proving to be a bit slower than I’d hoped 😆
So hard to choose from the many of my most played albums. I would venture to say that other favorites of mine might be some of yours as well ! Thanks for the encouragement🫡
Great memories on this Dylan Greatest Hits II ..Even newer records become nostalgic to me.. Where I got it, and why.. That sort of thing. Thanks for looking in on this one !
This was great ! I'm very simpatico with your choices. Were are from the same generation. But the thing I found also very interesting was that you grew up in Costa Mesa, at Harbor and 17th. I grew up in Huntington Beach and lived downtown on Huntington street for 14 years. I wonder if we ever crossed paths at the Golden Bear ? Was it Music Market that was the big record store in Costa Mesa. where the Ice Skating rink was for a while ? One other interesting coincidence is that I live in Nevada now and split my time between Reno and Gardnerville. I subscribed to your page and look forward to future posts.
Thank you.. Actually, I am from Reno.. Moved to Costa Mesa for two years only K and 1st grade.. back to Reno, up to South Lake Tahoe 3rd 4 5 and 6th grades. Then Las Vegas from 1970- 78 with my junior year at Incline HS. 27 yrs year round at Lake Tahoe total..Virgin Islands from 1986-89.. returning to North Shore for summers only, and 1999-2001 San Diego to play in our band with Gene Clark's son.. Kai. And now, back home in Reno since 2001 ! Whew ! Haha 😂
I'm glad we have similar choices and taste in music, James ! I know of the Golden Bear, but I never saw a show there.. In 1999.. I was on 10th and Loma in Hermosa Beach .. We were gonna be an LA band.. But Kai changed his mind, and we went to San Diego.. Rough life, huh ! LoL !!! 🤣
That's a good one ! For me, it was looking at that fantastic Rubber Soul cover.. The band looked so Beatles !!! LoL ! And looking at and listening to the 45 of Paperback Writer" with " Rain" on the B side ! So many memories that music ties in..🫡
I'm funny about Neil, sometimes I love him, sometimes I can't do it, same with Bowie. Bob Dylan! I need a copy of that Greatest Hits. I need more early REM. Nice JT!
Yes !! Pick up a copy of Greatest Hits Vol. II .. I move between bands/ artists.. all the time ! I am a genre jumper ! Lol 😊 Moving from one era and style with my moods in what I want to listen to. With my thrifting, it's so exciting scoring records in great shape and inexpensive, making it fun to try out different music and discovering stuff I might not normally pay attention to !
Sure thing ! I really looked forward to doing this thread.. As I only do one vid a week, I had to set it back before I could get around to uploading one. "Little Creatures" is the other TH I played often ! Appreciated .🤓
Thank you.. Instantly I knew this was gonna be my approach to this thread.. Even newer records are nostalgic, to me.. Where I got them, when.. All of that ! See you, Josh✌
Hi JT. You should get some of these thoughts down on paper. They could form the basis of a fascinating musical autobiography ... I picked 'Combat Rock' in my Top 10. The track 'Straight To Hell' is incredible. Strummer's lyrics read like poetry and his vocals were never better ... I could easily have included 'My Aim Is True'.
Not a bad idea.. Carl, my Aussie friends were such rebel rousers.. We would have ice cream fights in their cabin were they stayed. Dad was a Maître D at the MGM Grand Hotel Reno.. So when Mark asked me if I could get them into The Beach Boys.. I called dad, and we were front and center in the summer of 1981 ! Everything was broken, the table, glassware.. even ashtrays were split in half ! That was my Father's friends showroom at Harrah's South Lake Tahoe, a tall English gentleman, so I was cringing at all the damage.. I tipped the waitress 100 dollars and said sorry.. she said.. "Don't worry.. It Happens A lot " !! 😳
I enjoyed your top ten, Carl.. And I know you knew that about Elvis's backing band for that iconic record ! My favorite Clash is their debut, and I like my U.S. version as well as the U.K. release. London Calling is such a close 2nd !
Recently discovered your superb channel here in the UK. Really like your presentation style and listening to your stories from years gone by, seeing the trips to local record stores, Japan, Bills Garage and seeing local sights of interest. A great collection you have and taste in music and an understanding wife 😀(I have a vast collection myself so know the issues that brings 😆). Hearing about what you listened to in the 70's and how your sister was happy to let you listen to her vinyl brought a smile to my face. Thanks!
This is such an encouraging note, I greatly appreciate your interest in where I go and what I end up buying ! I get incredible deals around town, as you can see, and I'm not shy to spend up on records I want , whether new repress records. or used . I will try to keep making fun and enjoyable videos ! Thank you, and good to meet you. 🙏
I am a storyteller. I get it from my father ! Growing up in Nevada.. Reno, Tahoe, and Las Vegas was amazing ! An example.. The movie " Casino" with Robert DiNero.. I grew up with Leftys daughter ( Di Nero played him in the film )Robin in the early 70s Las Vegas. And we went to many shows on the strip.. Elvis, Tom Jones, Sinatra, and Bobby Darin, to mention a few !
Great story JT. These stories are great to hear from that exciting era. Your enthusiasm for music is addictive, I was born in 73 so missed a lot of what I consider to be the best era of music with bands/artists in their prime like Elvis, Zeppelin, The Who, Floyd, The Dead, Grand Funk, Hendrix and Spirit to name a few of my favs! I rely on people like yourself to reminisce these events🙂 Thanks!
@marks6908 It's funny.. because when I was a teenager, I looked up to the guys 4-6 years older than me ! Haha😄 Awesome that you know, and like the older bands, it is all history anyway.. At any age, we can learn, listen, and discover all kinds of artists that we somehow passed over !
I like your choices. My list : Pink Floyd - Dark side of the moon Supertramp - Crime of the century Steely Dan - Can´t buy a thrill The Smiths - The Queen is dead The Waterboys - This is the Sea Pavlov´s Dog - Pampered Menial Smashing Pumpkins - Adore Jethro Tull - Songs from the Wood Television - Marquee Moon Neutral Milk Hotel - In the aeroplane over the sea Pixies - Doolittle Sufjan Stevens - Illinois Pink Floyd - The Wall Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms Gang of Four - Entertainment!
And what a list !!! I will go back to your choices for inspiration from time to time ! Crazy, that I don't have on vinyl.. "This Is The Sea" and I don't have any Pavlov's Dog on Cd or vinyl. Thanks for this.. appreciated !😌
Thanks, Jason. I keep it real and have my older sister ( 3 yrs ) to add detail to my relatively good memory ! Even newer music records ) are nostalgic to me.. where I got it, who was with me. or who turned me onto it.✨️
Great choices Jt, I was 8 years old when the Beatles hit, and that album was played non stop by my older sisters, as was all the other Beatles LPs as they came out. Hunky Dory was the first DB album I bought, I love Quicksand and the Bewlay Brothers, both haunting songs. Great live album from Bob Marley, didn't know that little tidbit about the guitarist. Yes, Some Girls! When Keith Richards was asked in an interview why they titled the LP Some Girls, he answered with 'Because we couldn't remember all of their names". LOL R.E.M are one of my favorite ever bands, I saw them 8 times over the course of their career, and they never put on a bad show. Chronic Town was my intro to R.E.M., and I've loved them ever since. Thanks for sharing your list Jt, take care.
It is good to have our older sister/ sisters ! It's like Cameton Crowe in " Almost Famous" when he was 14 and looking through his older sisters' record collection that was in her room !
So cool that you saw REM that many times.. I wanted to. but work always got in the way.. and Dead shows always were the priority up at Lake Tahoe. We would hit the road and go see the boys ! ( I did see other shows as well, just not REM ). Thanks, Michael 🫡
Chet Flippo claimed that a Meet the Beatles album was brought by to Sam Houston State in early '63 by a frat brother who returned from England."I Saw Her Standing There" was blaring out of dorm windows almost a full year before being played in NYC.
Very interesting ! Great information on this.. I have been reading and watching good videos about Meet The Beatles and the UK " With The Beatles" lately.. Thanks for watching !
all very legitimate picks: i couldn't agree with you more about everything other than jethro tull. i have singled out individual tracks of their's just to not be closed minded and admire ian anderson going out and doing his thing at this point (despite how condescending that may sound). if i replace JT with savoy brown whose music i'm less familiar this is as good of a list on this topic as i've seen...i was turning 12 and mourning the death of elvis presley when school shopping took me me to a place that also sold records and i recall seeing "my aim is true" 's cover and thinking it was a sick joke. i never imagined that a few years (and decades) after, the sick joke would be seen as a blessing. dylan's greatest hits volume two might've only been improved with "george jackson" being on it. it blew the mind of a 14 year old!
@marcyfan-tz4wj Such a nice message. Thanks for this ! First off, I get it, how you don't care for Jethro Tull.. With Savoy Brown.. " Tell Mama" and " Stay While The Night Is Young" will be two good songs to check out !
Secondly.." George Jackson" is a terrific song, and we saw Elvis 5 times ! My father was one of the two Maitre D's at The International Hotel Las Vegas. We lived 4 blocks from the hotel.. So July 31st 1969 .. I saw my first rock concert ! I have a video of this.. Please check it out. Elvis Costello is amazing, and I remember thinking that with the cover of " My Aim Is True," until I heard the first songs of the album ! Thanks so much for looking in on this one !
holy cow once more! elvis's second to last show was an hour away but i didn't make it at age 11. i actually saw traffic the only time i was in las vegas the summer that OJ monopolized. i just put the version of "suspicious minds" from the international hotel on a cd for someone last week. i wrote you about being taken to see bob dylan in 1980 by someone i'm going to see in the hospital otherwise i'd tests you tube's comment length per usual. a less famous city in nevada has my last name. i appreciate you.@@jtsrecordroom3963
As always, I enjoyed hearing all the different places that you lived. Then, I really liked you telling about your sisters and their friends and records. I remember all the girls in my neighborhood in 1964 and 1965, collecting Beatles records and trading cards. They also compared folders, notebooks, and lunch pales with The Beatles pictures on them. And I know your dedication to the Grateful Dead. The three Dead albums that I listen to the most are American Beauty, Blues For Allah, and Wake Of The Flood. But they didn't quite make my top 10. Here are my 10: The Velvet Underground And Nico The Amazing Beatles And Other Great English Group Sounds.(Clarion) Loggins And Messina - Debut PR&TR - The Spirit Of '67 Elton John - Rock Of The Westies Rod Stewart - A Night On The Town Ringo Starr - Ringo K.K. - Jesus Was A Capricorn H.N. - Nilsson Schmilsson Leon Russell - Carney Honorable Mentions: Neil Young - Time Fades Away Stones - It's Only Rock-'n'-roll J. Geils Band - Bloodshot Uriah Heep - Sweet Freedom Deep Purple - Burn 🔥🤕 Bread - Debut David Bowie - Diamond Dogs 💎 Chicago - V Foghat - Lava Rock & Dinner Roll. GD - American 🌹 🦓
I need some Foghat, and that sounds like a great one.. I like Bread as well.. the debut is excellent. Time Fades Away is terrific.. going to see the film when brand new, was cool ! All good albums, Alan !
Really loved your story at the beginning about your sister and mom. Now we’re friends JT so I don’t want to call you a cheater on this thread but ten JT, ten! 😂 JK great video. Have a good week!
Rules? What rules !! Old habits die hard, I'm a rule breaker from way back ! Really.. Ten, I couldn't do it, I tried, I layed the records out, ten of them.. holes everywhere ! Hehe😁
I called my sister Michele before I dropped this video.. She reminded me that it was her 10th B Day.. March 1964 ! When my Mom handed her " Meet The Beatles," the girls went nuts !! A vivid memory for me, and her that day, for sure !
@@jtsrecordroom3963 no offense but i almost wished you told more stories about your journey than the records.... i don't think i was aware you lived in St Thomas.
@STEVEHEROLD Thank you, Steve.. Working in fine dining allowed me to move around with my resume. I could have worked at the Hotel Pierre in Manhattan, but returning to St. Thomas was way more fun, and I was set up down there.. Car, job, girlfriend, and a room in a large home on the top of Skyline drive ! I would return home to North Tahoe, only for 3-4 months.. Then get back down to the Virgin Islands.
@STEVEHEROLD We are taking a cruise.. first time for me, and we are going to port into Charlotte Amalie, St Thomas in December ! I'm gonna rent a car immediately and show Jum and Sean all around the island !
Yep.. That's right ! My favorite boot ( Dan Healy soundboard ).. Is 10/10/80 2nd Set ! The Jack Straw into Scarlet>Fire is so tight, I love this well rehearsed era of The Dead with Brent✌️ Thanks for your comment. took me a while to see it.. 🫡
Jt I loved the stories surrounding each record. Nice Let It Be in the background, man I listened to that a lot. Woah mate talk about start off with two absolute classics followed by my favourite Crazy Horse record. And the hits keep coming....Hunky Dory!! I never could get into Joni...sorry. Bob, Stones, Dead, Little Feat...oh yeah! Bob Marley believe it or not I have only recently got into. In the 90's my record store mate that turned me onto a lot of good stuff & took me straight away into the deep dive with lots of dub & ska. The more commercial roots reggae only came in the last 10 years once I resurfaced. I'm like you love all of the Talking Heads catalogue. R.E.M. IRS years is amazing. I feel kind of proud that an Australian got you into the Sex Pistols & the Specials. What an amazing band. Combat Rock was my intro to the Clash too. As soon as Joe says This Is A Public Service Announcement With Guitar...I was in. My fav other Elvis too. Glad you mentioned Gene/Byrds. Knowing you it wouldn't have felt right not mentioning him in one of your vids. Fantastic choices Jt. Cheers...Ben
I think of Bob Marley songs as the Jamaican Beatles.. great songwriting, and classic music for the ages ! I need " Tim" by The Mats, and I get it about Joni.. Hunky Dory was our Bible!! LoL ! We did worship that record, and Ziggy ! 🤚
@@jtsrecordroom3963 Oh I love Bob Marley now, it's just that I had weird reverse education where I was exposed to the underground less well known stuff first.
@@jtsrecordroom3963 I wouldn't have made the Specials, Sex Pistols, Icehouse connection 😂 They were a really popular 80's pop group over here. I will admit that had a knack for a catchy song.
@@benrankins4446 Yep.. They even bought me an Icehouse album on cassette. There were 11 of them ( Queensland Uni ) with varied musical tastes, and they were all down with.. The Saints ! Being from Brisbane..( I was so close to moving to Queensland back then ).
Absolutely.. I love that song ! " Conversation" goes way back for me.. I learned open tuning from her and Stephen ( Stills ).. pretty much ! Thanks for being the first to mention.. " Ladies Of The Canyon" ✌️
are you aware of that I left 4 questions for you after I wrote the original comment I found out that I was missing a comment so I added that and 4 questions. if you are aware and are busy that's fine just letting you know in case your not aware.
Interesting premise for a list! I never really gave much thought to it, but my list would definitely include: Hysteria by Def Leppard Appetite For Destruction by Guns N Rose's Rising by Rainbow IV by Led Zepplin Heaven and Hell by Black Sabbath Holy Diver, Angry Machines, and Lock Up The Wolves by Dio Revenge and Ace Frehley Solo Album by KISS
Great great list !! I like ALL of those bands.. The only 3 that I don't have are : Angry Machines, Lock Up The Wolves and Aces LP's ! .. guess I should do some listening.. I like hard rock, and even harder with Thrash and death Metal... sometimes ! Thanks.
I wholeheartedly agree with you that White Light is, easily, Gene Clark's best album. There's nothing else like it in his catalog, Byrds records included. No Other has received a lot of hype in recent years, unwarranted in my opinion. I get it, nostalgia buffs constantly search for a long forgotten, overlooked overlooked gem. However, I purchased No Other upon release in 1974 (on Asylum). Having been listening to White Light for a couple of years by then, I was beyond excited to see a new album from Gene Clark in the record bin. I subsequently tried very hard to love No Other, listening to it assiduously for weeks. But it was not meant to be. Not at all a bad album, and there are some good songs on it, but on the whole, this is a morose recording that has palled to me over time and repeated listenings. The bombastic production values employed therein mask the inferiority of songwriting in comparison to White Light. I've been listening to White Light (the same vinyl record I purchased in Lake Charles, Louisiana all those years ago) for over fifty years now, and I hear something new and moving in it with each passing year. Song for song, this is a flawless, perfect album which, in my opinion, deserves the attention currently being devoted to No Other.
I absolutely agree, although, the bonus tracks on the newer Cd ( No Other ) are amazing and stripped down like "White Light" !! Did I mention that Gene's son is my best friend and we ran a good original rock band together in the 90's. Gene had two boys. Kelly and ..Kai. We have been partners since 1993.. two years after his Dad passed down in L.A. ( Our band ended in 2000. Kai is covering his Dad's music a lot, lately, and had Carla Olson, John York and Byron Berline ( RIP ) on his last record.. "Silver Raven".Our kids play together.. Taylor Clark, and my Son Sean from time to time !
I think he means as of recently . your the 25th video i've seen in this thread actually 26 I don't have all the world a stage in my history section your 26. I have that album Meet the Beatles on vinyl got it want to say around the early 70's!!! questions 1. did you also have an 8 track 2:07 of your video you mentioned a couple components that you had did you also have an 8 track? 2. any of these albums that your showing did you have any on 8 track? also did you have the Black Sabbath debut on 8 track? 3. what did your Mom think about Black Sabbath? 4. when you were a teenager did you like Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, Alice Cooper, Kiss, Queen, Rush , Judas Priest, Ac/dc, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Pink Floyd, Jimi?
Hey Mark.. We had it, then we didn't. Now I bought it again, recently. The copy I showed is an Apple pressing from the 70's as well, bought at Korvettes back east, and sold on Discogs to me !
No.. I never collected, or bought 8 Tracks. So, no I did not have the Sabbath debut on 8 Track. had it on vinyl.. back in 1970.. then on Cd much later.
My Mom was cool, and so was my Dad. Very easy going and I stopped getting haircuts in 1970-71. They both let me do it.. I had extremely long hair by 1972 ! My Mom never heard me play Sabbath, because I was into other bands at the time.. Tull, Alice Cooper, Traffic, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin. and a lot more !
Well.. I'm answering and chatting with you.. First !!! Haha ! Thank you for watching my attempt at my 10 most played.. I did it in 16 !! I'm a rule breaker !🧐
I had to be a fan,, A Dead Head.. I was surrounded by folks everywhere up at Tahoe that loved The Dead ! By the end of the 80's .. I was getting back stage passes ! Thank you for looking in..😉
Not much.. Las Vegas did.. We are 450 miles north of Vegas, and 220 miles east of San Francisco with The Sierras blocking that tropical storm. Hope you made it through alright.. Where are you ?
Good, diverse list! My picks would be EC Get Happy! and Clash's London Calling. Also, Thin Lizzy Jailbreak, The Beatles White album, Kinks Arthur, XTC's 3 lrecords, Nonsuch,, Skylarking, and Orangess and Lemons.
Fantastic list !!! I love ALL of those albums.. and I wish I had some Thin Lizzy on vinyl.. I am almost complete with their catalog on Cd.. But that does not count ! Hehe😉
@@jtsrecordroom3963 Hi Jt, Correct! Born an raised in the northeastern part of France, i moved last year to Montréal, Québec😉
@@frenchvinyladdict So nice ! I only hear good things about Montreal !
Great Video JT
Thanks so much.. This was fun putting it together.. The records.. and I got lucky. My thoughts flowed pretty well, I do vids in one take, usually.☝️
It’s so amazing how our musical tastes parallel. Some are on my grail list. Great back stories my friend. Enjoyed the video very much.
( recorded at The Troubadour L.A. ) 🥲
Thanks for sharing these favorites! What a great range of music styles...
Thanks so much, and I really appreciate you looking in on this one ! 🫡
I love your visible joy at revisiting your old favourites.

Good to hear from you, Maria, and thank you ! I felt there wasn't any other way for me to do this thread... most played records are nostalgic !
Hi JT!!! cool list of more than ten record you listen the most and glad to hear also about how you got into those releases, btw it's a very eclectic group of albums having Sex Pistols, Bowie, Beach Boys, Little Feat, Dylan, N. Young, Talking Heads, R.E.M. cheers and be well
I guess it is eclectic. although it would be fun to show heavier records and all the different bands I got into after 1981 ! Chao, Cristian 🫡
@@jtsrecordroom3963 debut Clash is their only proper punk album imo. Great album, although as you know London Calling is my personal fav. Mike

Thanks!

Cheers ! 🫡
Some great albums for sure! I love the stories you can tell behind the album's bro very very cool video as always 🎸
Some Girls is probably my favorite Rolling Stones album

That or black and blue for me. Of course, there is a long list of other great Stones albums. Great vid!
These are all great, JT. I approve of all of these albums and a have played many of these over and over.
Hi JT - lovely stories and great albums. Every time you play an album its like going back in time lol. I cant imagine life without music. Cheers Doug
I couldn't either ! Besides family.. This is it for me ! Records help me remember, and old events tie in easier because of the music ! Thanks, Doug.
Greg

Thank you for watching my response to this awesome thread !
Al Anderson fronted NRBQ they used to play the z chicken Shack on Nantucket in mid 70’s also connection w Bonnie Raitt

Cheers.

LoL !!! 🤣
One of my earliest memories is looking at The Beatles Revolver album. Trying to figure out the pictures of the band.
That's a good one ! For me, it was looking at that fantastic Rubber Soul cover.. The band looked so
Beatles !!! LoL ! And looking at and listening to the 45 of Paperback Writer" with " Rain" on the B side ! So many memories that music ties in..🫡
What …no Stephen Stills ‘Manassas’ on show…? that’s okay, you chose some pretty special albums ! Great show John !
That's why this thread is slightly impossible !! Love the Manassas album .. Thanks, Harry.. See you on yours.🙂
Early REM is my favorite from the band !✌️
Great choices!! Of all of those, “Speaking in Tongues” is the one I have played in its entirety the most. Thanks for sharing!!
Sure thing ! I really looked forward to doing this thread.. As I only do one vid a week, I had to set it back before I could get around to uploading one. "Little Creatures" is the other TH I played often ! Appreciated .🤓
OMG.. It's you !! loL !! You kind of took a bit of a break, great to hear from you !
@@jtsrecordroom3963 Thanks my friend. Yes indeed…stepped away for a bit…but exciting to be talking music again!! Awesome video!!
Awesome video. Bro
@marks6908 I appreciate it, Mark.. I do get into it, and all of this keeps me young, anyway ! Thanks for watching.🤚
I like your choices. My list :
Pink Floyd - Dark side of the moon
Supertramp - Crime of the century
Steely Dan - Can´t buy a thrill
The Smiths - The Queen is dead
The Waterboys - This is the Sea
Pavlov´s Dog - Pampered Menial
Smashing Pumpkins - Adore
Jethro Tull - Songs from the Wood
Television - Marquee Moon
Neutral Milk Hotel - In the aeroplane over the sea
Pixies - Doolittle
Sufjan Stevens - Illinois
Pink Floyd - The Wall
Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms
Gang of Four - Entertainment!
And what a list !!! I will go back to your choices for inspiration from time to time ! Crazy, that I don't have on vinyl.. "This Is The Sea" and I don't have any Pavlov's Dog on Cd or vinyl. Thanks for this.. appreciated !😌
This was great. Always a good storyteller
I like Quicksand and Bewlay Bros.. every single song on that one, Ziggy and " The Man Who Sold The World" are perfect... To me !!!
So cool that you saw REM that many times.. I wanted to. but work always got in the way.. and Dead shows always were the priority up at Lake Tahoe. We would hit the road and go see the boys ! ( I did see other shows as well, just not REM ). Thanks, Michael 🫡
This has been a fun thread.
Excellent thread, and got so many of us motivated to do a response. I watched the original video "The Long Cut".. Chris has a good channel !
This is a great take on this thread.
Thanks, Richie.. I knew that I was gonna go way back on this one.. My memories from So Cal are vivid, what a time to be down there.. 1963- 1964.
I read up on Chet Flippo just now. I remember, but.. Good to know about his extensive career !
holy cow! i knew i had a lot of the early beach boys albums on cd but i never heard "lonely sea". thanks for the tip.
all very legitimate picks: i couldn't agree with you more about everything other than jethro tull. i have singled out individual tracks of their's just to not be closed minded and admire ian anderson going out and doing his thing at this point (despite how condescending that may sound). if i replace JT with savoy brown whose music i'm less familiar this is as good of a list on this topic as i've seen...i was turning 12 and mourning the death of elvis presley when school shopping took me me to a place that also sold records and i recall seeing "my aim is true" 's cover and thinking it was a sick joke. i never imagined that a few years (and decades) after, the sick joke would be seen as a blessing. dylan's greatest hits volume two might've only been improved with "george jackson" being on it. it blew the mind of a 14 year old!
Your the only one to mention "The Lonely Sea" !! By now, I imagine that you sampled it. Such an early masterpiece of Brian Wilson and the boys ! 👍
And I know your dedication to the
Grateful Dead. The three Dead albums that I listen to the most are American Beauty, Blues For Allah, and Wake Of The Flood. But they didn't quite make my top 10.
Here are my 10:
The Velvet Underground And Nico
The Amazing Beatles And Other Great English Group Sounds.(Clarion)
Loggins And Messina - Debut
PR&TR - The Spirit Of '67
Elton John - Rock Of The Westies
Rod Stewart - A Night On The Town
Ringo Starr - Ringo
K.K. - Jesus Was A Capricorn
H.N. - Nilsson Schmilsson
Leon Russell - Carney
Honorable Mentions:
Neil Young - Time Fades Away
Stones - It's Only Rock-'n'-roll
J. Geils Band - Bloodshot
Uriah Heep - Sweet Freedom
Deep Purple - Burn 🔥🤕
Bread - Debut
David Bowie - Diamond Dogs 💎
Chicago - V
Foghat - Lava Rock & Dinner Roll.
GD - American 🌹
🦓
The debut Loggins & Messina is right there for me as well, and Nilsson's best album, for sure !
Carney is excellent, and Chicago V is about my favorite also !
I need some Foghat, and that sounds like a great one.. I like Bread as well.. the debut is excellent. Time Fades Away is terrific.. going to see the film when brand new, was cool ! All good albums, Alan !

@@alanboas810 I was thinking about this earlier ! My list would be pretty mainstream, but mainstream is good, because millions of folks like it !
Hehe😁
You too, Gary.. Enjoy your records, and go Vikings, I mean.. 49ers ! 😄
I called my sister Michele before I dropped this video.. She reminded me that it was her 10th B Day.. March 1964 ! When my Mom handed her " Meet The Beatles," the girls went nuts !! A vivid memory for me, and her that day, for sure !
@@jtsrecordroom3963 Awesome memories 😊
@@vikingbrace Family is everything !
cool tales dude
Thanks, Steve ! I went over, Oh well ! 😄 Couldn't do it in ten records. it didn't look right, too many holes to fill. See you soon on yours !
@@jtsrecordroom3963 are people gonna be yelling out as you drive by “oh shit JT is back in town!”
I think Dead Set was electric sets from Oct 80 Radio City and Warfield
I am proud of my good mate, Mark.. turning me onto those two seminal bands, and they were big on Icehouse !.. as it was 1981 at the time ! 😅
Concerning the J. Mitchell lp, my favorite track is FOR FREE.
ua-cam.com/video/G1-HVBD3OMs/v-deo.html
Absolutely.. I love that song ! " Conversation" goes way back for me.. I learned open tuning from her and Stephen ( Stills ).. pretty much ! Thanks for being the first to mention.. " Ladies Of The Canyon" ✌️
are you aware of that I left 4 questions for you after I wrote the original comment I found out that I was missing a comment so I added that and 4 questions.
if you are aware and are busy that's fine just letting you know in case your not aware.
Thanks, Mark.. I wasn't aware. Just getting off work, I will check !
Interesting premise for a list! I never really gave much thought to it, but my list would definitely include:
Hysteria by Def Leppard
Appetite For Destruction by Guns N Rose's
Rising by Rainbow
IV by Led Zepplin
Heaven and Hell by Black Sabbath
Holy Diver, Angry Machines, and Lock Up The Wolves by Dio
Revenge and Ace Frehley Solo Album by KISS
I'd love to say Back in Black by AC/DC, but in honesty, I think it just missed the cut.
Great great list !! I like ALL of those bands.. The only 3 that I don't have are : Angry Machines, Lock Up The Wolves and Aces LP's ! .. guess I should do some listening.. I like hard rock, and even harder with Thrash and death Metal... sometimes ! Thanks.
I would put Powerage or Highway To Hell before Back in Black.. But that's just me !
Thank you for this very nice message.. I love The Byrds, and Gene Clark, Clarence White, Roger, Chris and Michael Clarke.. David last LoL !!!
good info here! Nice to hear that your kids play together too.@@jtsrecordroom3963

I have that album Meet the Beatles on vinyl got it want to say around the early 70's!!!
questions
1. did you also have an 8 track 2:07 of your video you mentioned a couple components that you had did you also have an 8 track?
2. any of these albums that your showing did you have any on 8 track? also did you have the Black Sabbath debut on 8 track?
3. what did your Mom think about Black Sabbath?
4. when you were a teenager did you like Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, Alice Cooper, Kiss, Queen, Rush , Judas Priest, Ac/dc, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Pink Floyd, Jimi?
Hey Mark.. We had it, then we didn't. Now I bought it again, recently. The copy I showed is an Apple pressing from the 70's as well, bought at Korvettes back east, and sold on Discogs to me !
@@jtsrecordroom3963 My parents bought the album at Caldors.
No, I never had an 8 Track player.. didn't want one ! My friends had them. By 1979 I had cassette decks in my cars.
Fantastic list !!! I love ALL of those albums.. and I wish I had some Thin Lizzy on vinyl.. I am almost complete with their catalog on Cd.. But that does not count ! Hehe😉
Nonsuch, Oranges and Lemons.. and Skylarking are my favorite XTC albums, as well ! ☺
