    It sure seems like a hell of a machine. Any concerns about reliability? I've heard Aprilias are hit or miss and it's the biggest factor keeping me from considering this one.

    • @HippoDrones

      Hi Dork, ty for sharing the vid BTW :-)
      Not really, I've had many Italian bikes over the years and not one has been unreliable.... like all bikes, I have had the odd issue, but no more or less than any Japanese bike I've owned, and far less issues than I've had from a certain Austrian brand that makes orange motorcycles! :D
      Aprilia get a hard time, and I think that is possibly because it can take a few weeks to get parts, it is the same with Moto Guzzi, both are part of the Piaggio Group, but if you go in eyes open, they are fine. In the UK, being a smaller country so dealerships are all nearer, and also being a lot closer to Italy, it means it is less of a worry as well. I'd maybe be less inclined if I had a 3 hour trip to my closest Aprilia dealership, but fortunately, my closest is around 30min from my home.

      @@DorkintheRoad WOW, yeah that is a bit too far. I can see why so many Americans do all their servicing themselves even on brand new bikes if it is a 2 day trip to get a dealership to service it!

      @@HippoDrones F**K KTM! Otherwise known as: Keep Taking Money !
      The 790/ 890R sounds like a bag of nails rattled in a tin can. It's ugly, the headlight looks like an after thought stuck far away from head stock & those saddle bag fuel tanks look horrendous!

    • @HippoDrones
      @HippoDrones  2 роки тому +3

      Hahaha, I had a KTM 390 Duke for a bit, it was great fun, but the clutch ate itself in under 5000 miles and although KTM replaced it under warranty, they said they wouldn't if it went again. That bike also had 2 new TFTs and a catastrophic ECU melt down, all in around a year of ownership!

    FINALLY! The 1st UK owner review. I am so pleased to see this I've been watching reviews almost daily on the Turaeg since its launch in Sardinia. As a current middleweight dual sport & Enduro rider this is the bike that ticks all the boxes for me, although having owner mostly Japanese bikes for sooo long, what concerns me is the reliability.
    As an example Nick Sanders has put some serious miles on his Tenere 700 through several continents without any issues at all. ...But I don't want a Tenere 700. There's just too many things I don't like about it. The Raid isn't much of an improvement either. It's still hasn't got tubeless tyres or cruise control & is almost the same price of a KTM 890 adventure R with all the bells & whistles, which is a real ugly looking bike with an agricultural sounding engine.
    So, Yeah...I will be looking forward to watching further reviews on your Turaeg before I put a deposit down. Please Keep them coming 👌👍

    • @HippoDrones
      @HippoDrones  2 роки тому +3

      Hi Dan, ahh mate that is awesome that I answered your prayer so to speak! :D Hahaha
      This bike feels so close to an enduro bike, it is almost like cheating.... I know I have come from a Moto Guzzi V85TT, but I do also trail ride a Beta 390. It is obvs a lot heavier than the Beta, but it just feels oh so good. As stated in the vid, I've swapped the tyres, and I love them, they really are amazing considering they are an adventure tyre rather than an enduro tyre.
      Reliability is to be seen, and this is my first Aprilia, but it is def not my first Italian bike and def not my first Piaggio bike, both my Moto Guzzi bikes were ultra reliable and they are Piaggio Group. But without some time in the saddle, I can't comment on the reliability of this Tuareg 660.
      The Yamaha Tenere 700 is 20mm taller, which stopped me considering it, as I am a shortarse, and the same with the KTM 890 Adventure & Adventure R, both felt too tall, but also very wide in comparison to the Aprilia & Yamaha.
      My full review will probably not be till mid summer at the earliest as I really want to get to know the bike first. Hopefully in the meantime, you will enjoy my adventures and rideouts on the bike! :-)

      @@HippoDrones Thanks for replying. Very few You Tubers even bother! They don't give a s**t & pnly want to get their subscriber figures up. Wa**ers.
      Yeah in terms of reliability, only time will tell but I reckon hopefully Aprilia learned from the oil leak issues on the RS/ Tuono 660 & rectified that on the Turaeg.
      I bought a brand new Kawasaki KLE 500 in 2006 & have took that green Laning & it's decent to be fair but the soft suspension & seat let it down. Build quality is also a bit poor. I will most likely trade that in for a new Tuareg. I really was considering a new Suzuki Katana but can justify spending all that money on a new bike for it to be sitting in the garage 5 months of the year over winter.
      Dual sports are versatile & usable vall year round which appeals to me the most. I have 7 bikes in total so at least one of them will have to go. Keep the reviews coming looking forward to more Turaeg feedback. The decal kits you can buy for the Turaeg look decent, especially the ones for the screen & tank panels. Take care, - Dan. 👍

      Hi Dan, I do try to respond to all comments on the videos I post, people have taken the time to watch the video, it is the least I can do, and I also quite like the interaction 🙂
      The KLE is meant to be a nice bike I thought, never ridden one though, I think it is a KLE 500 my mate has, I think he has fitted a sheep skin to the seat on his!
      I love being able to ride all year round on these types of bikes, and that it is often more fun in the winter months to go and get dirty on them, keeps me sane for sure! Hahaha, 7 bikes is a good size collection! :D I am currently on 5 bikes, and that is me at capacity for now, one is actually next to me in my living room as it won't fit in the garage until I have a tidy up! :D
      I quite like the standard decals on the bike, so probably won't swap them for now, but maybe if the bike needs freshening up after a season or trails and tribulations! :D
      You too buddy, ride safe!

There are a couple for sale at the aprilla trailer about an hour and a half south of me... you are making it very tempting. Super informative. I'd def suggest grabbing a demo ride if you are able, so as to see if the bike fits you. I am quite short at 5'6" with a 29" inseam. I don't get any buffeting but I do get a lot of wind noise at speed. There is a slightly larger Aprilia screen, and the aftermarket companies will be bringing stuff out for it too. If I was a little lower, I think it would cut some of the wind noise for me, which is another reason I am thinking about getting the lower seat... but £300 is more than I have spare currently.

    Great video Pete, and that comes from a V85TT owner ;) Your Tuareg seems more suited to the type of riding you do, the V85TT isn't really an "off road" bike especially with a full tank of fuel :O

    Nice bike Pete. I can tell you're smitten. I look forward to watching your adventures on it. I do like riding a tall adv too. You get lots more vision + the seating position is comfortable.
    When I get a GSA as a demo or courtesy bike during service days I tend to get on the bike by stepping up on the left peg before swinging my right leg over. Even though I'm tall enough for the bike it just saves trying to swing my right leg over the taller rear end whilst standing on the ground. I see you do the same technique

    How does it compare to the Moto Guzzi V85tt in the following areas.
    1. Comfort
    2. Power
    3. Handling / on and off road
    4. For LONG tours
    5. Service cost and ease off maintenance

    • @HippoDrones
      @HippoDrones  2 роки тому

      Hi, ta for the questions...
      1) The V85 was more comfortable, although the Aprilia is not uncomfortable.
      2) The Aprilia feels far more powerful, I think the shaft drive saps a lot of the V85's power.
      3) Totally different bikes, the V85 handled nice on tarmac, but is heavy, and was no way near as good in the dirt. The Aprilia is very at home in the dirt and is brill on tarmac, the larger front wheel does limit it a little on the road, but more than makes up for that by being so awesome on trails.
      4) I've ridden them both on long rides, both loaded up with camping kit etc and I'd not complain about either, the V85 has longer range though due to a bigger fuel tank.
      5) Home maintenance on the V85 is as easy as it gets with valve checks and adjustment being a doddle. The Aprilia is not as easy to work on yourself for servicing, but it isn't difficult, just needs more parts removing to get to valves. As for servicing costs, they are kind of similar as Moto Guzzi and Aprilia are often sold in the same shop, so hourly rate will be the same. Neither bikes have scary servicing costs from what I can gather, but I have not needed anything other than the 600 mile service on the Tuareg yet. I def think it is worth getting them dealer serviced as they can then do software updates on the bikes, which iron out gremlins etc that you'll not be able to do yourself, you also can't reset the service light on the bikes yourself, that needs to be done by your dealership.

    I have a four questions though which no other reviewer has mentioned & Maybe you could find out & mention on your next review:
    1: When when riding at night with the head lights on main beam, do they automatically dip for approaching veichles? -Or do lights automatically switch to main beam on dark roads?
    2: Does the TFT dash display show or monitor the tyre pressures?
    3: Can you fit your gloved hand in the gap in the seat rail to get a good grip & move the bike around in tight spots?
    4: Also, can you fit a tail bag strap through the gap in the seat rail to the other side to secure the bag on top of the seat?
    5: The last one is - Are the tyre valves accessible for a pump adapter (Especially the petrol station type) to fit on valve in-between the spokes?
    Many thanks & much appreciated, Dan.

      Hi Dan, I shall look into this when am able! :-)
      Currently my answers are as follows, (but will prob change when I know better) :D
      1) I don't think it goes to high beam, but the main headlight is automatic on my UK bike, so it switches from DRL to headlight if it gets dark enough to need to do so. I don't think it goes to high beam though sadly.
      2) Mine doesn't, I've not seen an option to buy TPMS from Aprilia, but other Aprilia's do do so, so it will probably be an option in the future!
      3) Yup, it is a nice size, even in winter gloves... I do have small hands though! :D
      4) You can, but you'd be better using a RUK Strap, with it secured to the frame each side as to do it as you describe, would need the seat to be removed.
      5) They are not too bad for my home pump, but garage pumps might be an issue.... I'd suggest carrying an adaptor on long trips to make it easier to check them.

      The V85 is 830mm, the Tuareg is 860mm, but the Moto Guzzi is a lot wider with the Aprilia being more like a skinny dirtbike, so they actually in real world, feel very similar for ease of getting a foot down. The lighter weight of the Tuareg vs the V85TT is a big help though, it feels far more manageable on dirt and on slow speed u-turns on tarmac.

      If you are going to spend 90% of your time on tarmac, the Guzzi may be a better bike as it is possibly more comfortable over distance, and has a huge petrol tank, so you can munch miles effortlessly... but the Aprilia is more nimble, is faster, and on equivalent tyres, probably handles better too. It is def better in the dirt.
      The CB500X is a cracking bike, and the V85 is possibly the way I would steer you, but it will not feel a huge more performance as it may have 80bhp, but it is quite heavy.

      I've not heard of any reliability issues with the V85TT, it does have a single plate clutch though, which doesn't like being slipped, which is something I'd want to be able to do in low grip and on sand. 2 very different bikes, I have to admit, I was tempted to trade my Beta390 and the Moto Guzzi V85 TT for the 300 Rally, but I am so glad I went this direction. Nothing wrong with the Honda CRF300 Rally, but this has some grunt for the road bits, and so far seems to be more than capable on the dirt too. You need to look at what you want from a bike, both are great dualsports that can do miles, but 28bhp vs 80bhp and the increased torque on the 660 make them very different bikes!
      I do like the CRF300, and would have one in a heartbeat if this didn't exist and I needed the funds selling the Beta.

    • @inrptn
      @inrptn 2 роки тому +1

      @@HippoDrones Yes, it's going to come down to specs comparison I think, as both are very capable. 28bhp vs 80bhp is a big difference and I plan to be slightly more weighted toward road miles than off-road. 70/30 or 60/40 on/off. The added grunt (and probably comfort) of the Aprilia will serve me very well at high speeds. However, the Aprilia is at the very top-end of my budget and I'd be much more scared of dropping it than the Honda...

    Hey folks. I've just watched an extreme close up video on the Turaeg on another channel & only just noticed that it has steel braided brake lines....on a standard bike straight off the production line. Not often you get that. A proper bonus!
    Another thing I've noticed with this bike compared to the T7 especially, is that it has a decent shorter number plate holder. You don't need to buy a tail tidy for it. Unlike that bloody ugly long thing on the T7. So That's TWO major cost savings right there! 👏👍👌

With the Tuareg currently priced at £10,600 you get so much more features, spec & equipment for the extra £900, which makes the Tuareg so much better value especially in comparison to the KTM 890R & Husky Norden 901, at £12,000 +.

    *TL/DR: I'm dumb... spelled "d-u-double q-z" dumb.
    Speaking of "biscuits", I grew up raised by a Canadian mom, so I knew the ways of fries and chips, and potato chips and crisps, and cookies and biscuits, and zero and naught, and of "z" and zed, etc.. But I forgot all of that during Grade 12 German language class when we were to pick a German food and make it at home, then bring it in to class for all to enjoy. I chose "kase biskits", which translates to "cheese biscuits". In America, a biscuit is soft & fluffy type of dinner roll. So I read the instructions on how to make cheese biscuits and thought, "Hmmm, this seems like it would make some dry & thin biscuits." So I modded the instructions to make cheese biscuits like how I thought they should be: tall & fluffy.
    They turned out nice, but when the German teacher saw them, she couldn't figure out what she was looking at, because she thought she was going to have a tasty & crisp little cheese cookie (biskit), and I brought her some fluffy cheese rolls (biscuits). D'oh, und ach du lieber, Gott im Himmel! :)
