Okay, so in terms of Popeye lore, the witch is most likely the Sea Hag, who Popeye faces off semi-regularly in the comics. The vulture is most likely supposed to be Benard, the Sea Hag's pet. 7:30 This was because Bluto was his name for the cartoons and it got changed to Brutus in the 1960s by the comic book company that owned the franchise thinking that Paramount Pictures owned the Bluto name when in reality Kings owned it all along. Animated media continue using Bluto yet this game has him as Brutus for whatever reason
Man, something about seeing the Popeye characters moving like regular video game characters as opposed to noodle-limbed goofballs is really unsettling, especially seeing Bluto jogging like a linebacker instead of his signature lumbering swagger
6:56 Said vulture is actually the pet of an old witch called the Sea Hag. Yeah yeah just that one. Curiously though her face is green, based on the 60s TV cartoon series for some reason. Bud Sagendorf comics gave her pale human-like skin.
Ok, the Deer God game caught my interest, I'm gonna check it out! I'm pretty sure it was made by the same people who did Echo do the Wilds and I love that game!
Heres a fact : The Wresle Empire game you showd is actually made by a guy called MDickie who made games such as school days, hard time and ect i know the company because it played lots of their games since 2016 and stoped 2018
Oh wow, I actually played a thing from this! Deer God was something that caught my eye on Wii U, back when games on it were slim pickings. It was an interesting endless runner with reincarnation and karma mechanics...then I got a progression blocking bug and never looked back.
3:00 I watched this part on my Switch once I got home from work and I legit thought the application crashed for a second. Thanks for the mini heart attack, Ant. You tricked me good.
Ok, ngl, that crazy mode is exactly what I want to do in a video game. Just... You know, more playable and stable. I am a huge fan of game corruptions (go check Vinny's corruption stockpiles if you're not familiar with it) and really love the idea of recreating it in-game, without third party software.
The thing at 18:59 is a turtle from a Unity Asset Pack that came with a few bipedal animals, one of the others being that owl carries the arrow around. "Elva, the Eco Dragon" could have easily been some Unity game that someone slapped together for a quick buck.
I remember buying Membrane for 240% less than what it’s worth nowadays back in 2018. Before you ask, it’s more or less a puzzle game were you, an impulse (of a random dude’s nervous system trying to swat a fly) can shoot projectiles that can stick together, creating bridges to stairs to barricades. DEFINITELY NOT WORTH $250.
I'd honestly love to try to tinker with Unity to program something for the Switch. But I'd never be as stupid as to release it let alone for money unless I am statisfied with the results and had lots of play testers helping me fixing stuff.
I found Deer God enjoyable, but I totally get how it difficult to get into at first. only reason I played it was because it was a Game for Gold on Xbox
Almost offended that you put Wrestling Empires on here. Honestly an amazing game. Made by 1 person, new modes and moves added frequently. And makes for some really funny moments!
I literally questioned "Didn't he make this already?" And then I opened the video and it said "Again" at the end. Good to know I was right, and got more than what I bargained for too!
@antdude the witch is the seahag, in later cartoons she was an antagonist who wanted to marry Popeye and rule the seven seas. As for the Bluto/Brutus debacle another animation studio took over and thought Parmount owned the rights to Bluto’s name but they didn’t and when they found out they still kept him as Brutus
I'm gonna have to be the defender of Wrestling Empire here. The game's jank and silly but MDickie games are a special breed of jank and silly in that they're some of the most genuinely entertaining games you can watch and play (if you don't take them seriously of course). Wrestling Empire's career mode goes endlessly, you can make all sorts of friends and enemies, go to different wrestling companies and do a whole lot of customization and have fun that the only other real wrestling game on the switch, WWE 2K18, can't possibly bring. (seriously, WWE 2K18 on the switch was for a good while THE WORST switch game.) Add to that the fact that MDickie is also teasing a major update that adds an open world aspect to the game, and that there was already a major update that added in a company management mode, as well as the fact that the game is also on PC and Mobile - AND is pretty cheap all things considered, it is absolutely one of the few games from this video that is worth checking out.
Cow Catcher looks to be one of those "purposely bad" games, like Goat Simulator or Surgeon Simulator. Perhaps if they had named it "Cow Catcher Simulator" the joke would have been more obvious. Then again, it gets pretty obvious the moment you take a look at the gameplay. A wingsuit? To catch cows? That's the sort of thing only satire comes up with. Not gonna lie, I added it to the wishlist the moment I saw this video and as soon as I add some funds to my account I'm buying it.
That bit about a game using X as a pause button is funny to me (and me alone) because it's somehow not alone in that regard. Of all games, DELTARUNE does that exact same thing. I don't think the start button even does anything.
Certain games on DS does so too, and if it's just placement, there are numerous Playstation titles that uses the top face button to open pause menu too
10:38 It looks more that they were influenced by Alex Kidd’s style rather than tracing it. The angles on the pictures you put up are very different from Guts N’ Goals’ cover
It's these videos that I hope shows Nintendo that the quality control needs be a focus on the next console's eShop... And ADD MUSIC WHY IS THERE NO MUSIC PLEASE NINTENDO
Seems like random crazy mode has a random timer that loads an entirely new stage. Sometimes the timer lasts 10 seconds sometimes it lasts 1 frame. I am pretty sure that reloading the same assets and changing stages 20 times per second is prone to crashing the game.
I'm sure someone has posted this already. But Popeye is now in the public domain. Some charachters, though, were created more recently in history. But Popeye as a character is public. So my guess is Bluto is probably not public domain yet.
The big guy Bluto was originally only meant to be in one storyline, however when Popeye got his series of animated shorts made for him I guess the creators liked him enough to make them the villain in the majority of their films. The Sea Hag and her pet Vulture despite being Popeye's most famous and reoccuring foes in the comic strip never made an animated appearence until those cheap made-for-tv cartoons during the 1960's. Off topic notes; That's also the show where they forgot that Bluto first appeared in the comics, they assumed he was created for the cartoons and that they wouldn't be allowed to use him, so their solution was just to create a new character with the same design, voice, and personality named Brutus. In the 90's they realized that they actaully owned the character and since then they've used Bluto, with a few exceptions, such as this game which makes little sense since the original came out when they were still pushing Brutus. They later explained that they were twin brothers.
The developer of Wrestling Empire, MDickie, has a bunch of other wrestling games, along with other titles. He was actually the developer of the infamous game Hard Time, a prison simulator. I’ve been a huge fan of his work for a while, so seeing him get a game on Switch is amazing to see. Empire is still getting frequent updates, the next major one is going to be backstage free roaming.

It's also not an eshop exclusive, I remember playing it on Xbox a few years ago.
Wasn't this game featured in a Nintendo indie Direct?
Well it's clearly trash.
Yeah i saw it on PS Now not to long ago
@@DirectorOfChaos9292 you cannot tell me that the artstyle is trash its bloody beautiful

@@ryanreed2363 Wow, it's actually gone now while a lot of the other bots are still here so maybe it did actually do something.
I found the deer god to actually be a very fun and intriguing game, but it was definitely odd and very unclear at times
Ah yes, good old MDickie.
To be honest, I love Wrestling Empire and MDickie games.
You should see his other games, particularly Hard Time and ESPECIALLY The You Testament.
Oh how I wish you delved more into Wrestling Empire, Ant. Cause MAN it's actually pretty neat and, for the most part, interesting. Hell, it was originally pretty bare at release but is semi-regularly updated with new features and such.
man they're updating that thing huh
@@spiffyavatar3611 He is. It's by one guy, who's apparently been making games like this for a while now, only 3 of them being wrestling games.
Still hoping he'll add the Package Piledriver or the Double Underhook Piledriver, tbh.
Edit: I have since found out it is more than just 3 wrestling games. My bad.
Same! It's honestly extremely fun! Plus got that free roam mode now
Cow Catcher is just kinda a perfect mess, designed that way.
James Rolfe has LJN
Caddicarus has Phoenix Games
Scott the Woz has Data Design
And now,
AntDude has Sabec Games.
Austin Eruption has GameMill Entertainment
Membrane was my first Switch game. It was super cheap and looked kinda neat, so bought it just to have something to play while Smash was downloading - and I thought it was pretty good, actually.
250 dollars good?

Buying Pooplers And Playing It With Friends...
I've been seeing alot of stuff about popeye recently, I'm guessing it's cause of the new death battle but I'm happy cuz he's honesty a great character
According to Nintendo's recap for 2021, Wrestling Empire was my second most played game of the year. Sandwiched between Hades and Animal Crossing New Horizons.
Well, at least The Deer God has a genuinely interesting set-up and Art Style.
That's WAY more than the others had to offer.
I never finished it, but Deer God is super beautiful and the gameplay wasn't too bad either. For it's price I recommend it!
Heres a fact : The Wresle Empire game you showd is actually made by a guy called MDickie who made games such as school days, hard time and ect i know the company because it played lots of their games since 2016 and stoped 2018
Actually made by one guy, that’s MDickie himself.
@@Ashkihyena well I didnt know that yet so thanks
Oh wow, I actually played a thing from this! Deer God was something that caught my eye on Wii U, back when games on it were slim pickings. It was an interesting endless runner with reincarnation and karma mechanics...then I got a progression blocking bug and never looked back.
13:45 is truly art I can appreciate, I'm sold on that alone
I can't help but wonder how many gold points you got from doing this to yourself.
2:20 It said he spent $110.98 and got 154 Gold Points for it.
You did Wrestling Empire dirty here, but I forgive you after seeing the rest of the games
I’ve been watching the first one of this series multiple times and never got old. I’m glad there is a sequel.
@@princekely7308 how about no.

I think this is one of my favorite videos you've done Ant! The writing is really really on point
I love it when AntDude suffers for our entertainment. ❤️
The thing at 18:59 is a turtle from a Unity Asset Pack that came with a few bipedal animals, one of the others being that owl carries the arrow around.
"Elva, the Eco Dragon" could have easily been some Unity game that someone slapped together for a quick buck.
I actually bought Membrane for like 2 bucks and thought it was decent. Had no idea they raised it to 250.
Calculator for Nintendo switch is the greatest game of all time and it's my favourite speedrun out there.
Cow Catcher seems like a genuine masterpiece
As for that Popeye game, I think I've seen the world in VRChat a long time ago. If its made in Unity that will pretty much confirm it.
I love the creativity with swears bleeped by the Switch's crash screen
Good editing! 10/10
I'd honestly love to try to tinker with Unity to program something for the Switch.
But I'd never be as stupid as to release it let alone for money unless I am statisfied with the results and had lots of play testers helping me fixing stuff.
that skull bonus was the best part of this video for me
Ah yes Nintendo switch calculator, the game that broke PointCrow's hand
And the hand of another Ant as well!
Three seconds into the video and nostalgia hit. You cant go throwing those iconic eshop themes around such an emotional me.

14:25 The hardcore matches between Jumping Jim Brunzell and the Junkyard Dog we're crazy back in the day, lol
I found Deer God enjoyable, but I totally get how it difficult to get into at first. only reason I played it was because it was a Game for Gold on Xbox
I do remember reading a popeye comic in one of these giant bundles, and there *was* a witch in that. It was a pretty fun comic too.
If this and the previous installment has told me anything, is that the quality control on the Eshop is a hot mess
100%
Cow Catcher looks to be one of those "purposely bad" games, like Goat Simulator or Surgeon Simulator. Perhaps if they had named it "Cow Catcher Simulator" the joke would have been more obvious. Then again, it gets pretty obvious the moment you take a look at the gameplay. A wingsuit? To catch cows? That's the sort of thing only satire comes up with. Not gonna lie, I added it to the wishlist the moment I saw this video and as soon as I add some funds to my account I'm buying it.
I like to think that Membrane was meant to be priced at 2.50, but no one bothered to fix it.
Given that it's priced at $2.50 now, that seems highly likely.
My mom looked over when cow catchers was on screen and we spend several minutes trying to figure out what the player character was supposed to be
Why would you spend $9.99 on Calculator for the Nintendo Switch when Animal Crossing Calculator only costs $1.99 on the 3DS eShop?
The Baby Poop thing from the last time you did this is back with a sequel!
Oh my god, i can't believe that Popeye game isn't a bootleg, i cannot, nay, REFUSE to believe this is officially licensed.
That bit about a game using X as a pause button is funny to me (and me alone) because it's somehow not alone in that regard. Of all games, DELTARUNE does that exact same thing. I don't think the start button even does anything.
Certain games on DS does so too, and if it's just placement, there are numerous Playstation titles that uses the top face button to open pause menu too
Popeye for the nintendo switch fells more like a bootleg mobile game than an actual license nintendo game
10:38
It looks more that they were influenced by Alex Kidd’s style rather than tracing it.
You helped me avoid some buyers remorse from that calculator app.
What a coincidence that I watched your last video of you doing this earlier this morning. This was a pleasant surprise.
I didn't know there was a Popeye game on the switch.
It's a half-assed 3D remake of the ol' nintendo arcade game, and they charge 15$ for it!
Me too, I just came here before Pokemon brilliant diamond and shining pearl got released. When I saw it, I got shocked
Cow Catchers looks absolutely insane, in all the best possible ways.
Nice
The developer of Wrestling Empire, MDickie, has a bunch of other wrestling games, along with other titles. He was actually the developer of the infamous game Hard Time, a prison simulator.
I’ve been a huge fan of his work for a while, so seeing him get a game on Switch is amazing to see. Empire is still getting frequent updates, the next major one is going to be backstage free roaming.
I own membrane when it was a few dollars and it’s actually a really fun game with a unique style but that 250 dollar peace tag is insane lol
13:50 Ya know, wasn't expecting to see skeletons using default dances set to Hardbass
Also wasn't expecting to see an Mdickie game on switch with Wrestling Empire.
