Дарья красавица - копия своего отца, хочется пожелать ей счастливой жизни! А Катя конечно потрясающая фигуристка, так виртуозно, как владеет коньком она, не владеет наверно никто
You can tell that she's never gotten over it. Twenty-three years later, when this aired, and she's never gotten over it. And now it'll have been twenty-five years since he died. Probably one of the greatest- but also most tragic- love stories of the sports world, in my opinion. You can just tell in the way she talks about him, that he was probably the love of her life.
She has said he was the love of her life and those were the happiest years for her. It's so tragic and yet it's the most beautiful love story so I can't look away.
Imagine that you have everything, literally everything, at 22 years old you have reached just all. And then you lose all. The magnitude of her drama is huge and life long just because through losing him she has lost everything: love, future, career, glory and even money. I often think of her as a woman of incredible internal strength, as it is not at all easy to survive decently a trauma of such scale. And as we can see, the longer is the life, the deeper is the gap. The mere fact that now, 25 years on she organises tribute shows says it all.
Laurie Smith Sergei WAS the love of her life! They were soooo in love and you could see it in the way they looked at each other on and off the ice. I don’t think I’ve seen a child look so much like one parent though. Daria is absolutely the spitting image of her dad and he would be sooo proud of her!
You never get over losing someone you love, regardless of who it is. You learn to live with it. You can love again, not the same way, just differently.
It was devastating what happened to Sergei. But his daughter looks so much like him. Her smile and her eyes and dimple. It's nice to know he lives through her. I cried when I saw the tributes online. It was devastating. Even now when I see a video like this about them I just want to bawl with the unfairness of it all. If only he could see his daughter today. He would be so proud of her.
he died on ice. where he met his love and had the best times of his live. at least he was at home. which is all we can ask for at this time. knowing we made an impact in this cruel world. even the smallest impact can change the lives of many. katia is one of the strongest people because she just powered through it for daria. sergei will awlays be proud of them❤️
Wow....Daria is the spitting image of Sergei. The same smile and dimples, it's unreal. It was heartbreaking when this happened and still is. I mean it still brings tears to my eyes this very day. I think so many of us that watched them skate and saw the love they had for each other and their daughter always wished for that kind of love story. Just because someone dies doesn't mean they're gone forever, they continue to live on in every memory you have.
What a treasure Scott Hamilton is, and what a good friend. Katia is an excellent example of going through the dark and coming out the other side. Such a sweet story.
I always cry when I watch them together. Their love and beauty makes time stand still for me. Daria's smile lights up the whole world just like her dad's smile did. Her dad is the most beautiful soul in heaven now and Katia is the most beautiful soul on earth. We were all blessed to have them. When I think of Sergei I feel these the words of a poet who wrote Life is eternal, and love is immortal, and death is only a horizon; and a horizon is nothing save the limit of our sight. The only way to have eternal love is to never let your heart forget what it's like to live without it.
Katia and Scott are two of the most inspirational people ever. I love what she said about finding joy every day. I was absolutely heartbroken when Sergei passed, and I watched her pick up and carry on with such grace and strength. I had no idea that one day I would unexpectedly lose my husband. I had three kids age six and under to raise. I don't know how many times I've drawn inspiration from UA-cam videos of them skating or her as a solo skater. Thank you so very much for sharing this!
@@astrobinch Thank you. It's been 13 years, but the hole in my heart never goes away. (It's obvious the same is true for Katia) My kids are grown/nearly grown and I'm remarried.
That was one of the saddest moments in the history of sports... They were so perfect together. I honestly don't think she could have carried on had she not had her daughter with him... Because now look-- she looks just like him! And she is a lucky young lady to have had 2 of the most beautiful parents EVER... both inside and out. When I watch her parents skate from years ago, it truly makes me miss those days... They really might have been the greatest pair skaters of all time... no one even comes close today! :(
Yes it was. When I heard the news at work that day, I was of no use for the rest of the day. Fortunately, my boss was a huge figure skating fan and his 16-year-old daughter was doing a little competitive figure skating at the time, so he totally got it. He knew what I was feeling. I cannot absorb the thought of the loss that Katia was experiencing: the loss of the love of her life, her career, her skating partner, her best friend, her lover, her husband, the father of her child, and on and on-especially, the future she had anticipated, all the years they were together, of what their later years would be like...walking hand in hand through all of life together. My heart is still broken for them and can never be mended.
@Raj Sandhu They were 2 halves of one heart and soul. Their love story was truly one of a kind. You can see that she still misses him from her reaction in the interview despite moving on. She is such an inspiration of strength for moving on and finding the joys in life. Thank God she has her skating, to this day she is so beautiful and graceful, her daughters, esp. Daria, family and friends to keep her going until her and Sergei are reunited once again in the spirit world.
@@carolanneposey5211 Mine is too!! You can see in her smiles and facial expressions that something is missing, only when she is around her daughters you can see the love for them.
In an interview filmed for the Celebration of a Life in Hartford, she is in front of a fireplace and says, “Those were the best years of my life with Sergei. I don’t think anything will bring me the happiness I had with Sergei. I just don’t think it’s possible.” Then she goes onto say that she will raise Daria and she will be the “happiest girl ever.” I agree with those who said the light in her eyes has not been the same since he died. I’m happy she has found love with other men since Sergei, and I have a sense she cherishes and knows that her love with Sergei doesn’t happen ... it’s once in a lifetime.
Her quote at the end of the show, I was there in person….”Live each day with lots of smiles. Smile to each other and say I love you.” That has held onto me since she said it. That night held so many emotions. Being there was something I’ve cherished. Seeing her skate solo, you still feel his presence there. I saw their last public skate together before he died & her first as a solo.
@@biskit96 The show was extremely emotional. Not just her skate, but the stories each skater told and knowing what that night was about. Before Katia skated, the ice lit up and the anticipation of seeing her appear to the second it happened and realizing he wasn’t there, hit me. That’s when it really hit. Everyone stood up for her first moments and I didn’t see a dry eye around me. Even my dad choked up watching her skate. I was 14 at the time and will never forget that night. I squeezed my mom’s hand through out her skate. Had my head on her shoulder just bawling. You were so proud of her and you felt Sergei there. When she finished the skate, she too was in tears. Which made me cry even more, but I was so proud of her taking that leap. Because you didn’t know if you would ever see her skate again. Saw her with Stars on Ice until she stopped touring too.
OMG. I watched them from when they started until he passed. I never watched figure skating again after that. And even now, whenever there is a piece about that, I still cry. I'm crying right now. 💔
I can still remember the day he died. It was heartbreaking. Katia was so strong for Daria and the Stars on Ice cast....especially Scott! Daria does look just like her father!!
She has always looked like him. I was at Celebration of a Life skate…sat not far from her family…I truly caught that glimpse of Sergei at the end of her solo skate holding Dasha…I said to my mom “She looks just like her daddy.”
A love like that never dies even when one of the two does. It stays with you. Your heart and mind lock memories and emotions that never truly go away even if you remarry. With Daria there's a beautiful reminder of their love every day. She will take that great love with her til the end of her life.
Man what an emotional video it really tugs at your heart. I remember how hard it was to believe that Sergei had passed away because he was always like the most fit strong skater out there. Dasha looks so much like her father it's unbelievable.
I love that Daria looks just like Sergei, he is so beautiful and her smile is him. I had such a hard time watching skating after he died, they were and always will be my favorite pairs team!!! Katia is so strong, what an amazing mother and daughter team. 💙💙💙❤❤❤🤗🤗🤗
26 years later and just as painful. Balling over here but so grateful that they revisited their life and love. I do not think she would have made it without the comfort and love of her friends and family especially her figure skating family. Her daughter is so beautiful and is the spitting image of her dad like to the T. So incredibly touching❤️
Katia, your daughter IS Sergei. The resemblance is amazing and everyday you look at Daria's eyes and smiles they are Sergei's love reaching out to you just like your daughter does with her love for you.❤
All that time later, she still feels that pain of losing Sergei. Dasha (Daria) is the spitting image of her dad. She has always looked like her dad. My mom’s good friend lost her husband to a heart attack and left his 4 year old son behind, who like Daria, has no real memories of their dad. And just like Dasha, he carries on many traits of his dad. No one thought she would ever skate again or find love even. Both of which she did. I’ll never forget the moment I heard the news of Sergei’s passing. 25 years later, it’s something that has never been forgotten. “Live each day with lots of smiles and say I love you.” One quote of Katia’s I’ve never forgotten.
Lovely piece. I remember her crying in 98 when Dmitriev won. Her and Sergei had planned to come back bc he wasn’t satisfied with how he skated in 94. It was like God had a plan for Sergei but ensured Daria looked like her dad to bring comfort to her mom: Sergei lived on. Rip Sergei Grinkov!
RKS CA Gordeeva wrote in her book that Sergei wanted to compete agains, but iirc under the rules of the time they wouldn’t have been allowed to reinstate as amateurs again
I remember that-it was like he was looking down and saying to Artur, his best friend, here you go, you also deserve another gold medal. And then in 2002, with the scandal, I bet he was looking down and saying to the judges, not so fast, you slime buckets, don’t you mess with my sport, we’re going to give gold to the Russians AND the Canadians (who lost in Lillehammer.) But Katia especially deserved that second gold in Lillehammer and she needed it to be financially stable...
Daria is the spitting image of Sergei! I remember crying so much when he died. They were my favorite pair...the love between them...and I cried watching this as well. How he could have been taken so young. My heart breaks for them all, and God bless Katie and Daria.
Не только вспоминают, но и любят!!! Скотта Гамильтон в этом интервью очень трогательно говорит о Сергее, это подчёркивают многие англоязычные комментарии!..
Katie and Sergei had the deepest, truest, most genuine love for each other. I’ll never forget when he passed. We all dream of having a soulmate. Katia and Sergei were the perfect example of soul mates. It made it even more special because they were pro skaters and partners. Daria is so her father’s daughter. It’s almost spooky. Every time I see Katia, I can’t help but see Sergei. He’s such a huge part of Katia and Daria.
The most beautiful couple in figure skating and life!!! I admire you, still keep watching your amazing performances, gives me goosebumps every time I see your skating. Спасибо за ваш труд и великую силу духа, Катя.
Their hearts were one. When he died half her heart was gone. It is a love to always be celebrated and be grateful for. Rest in peace, Sergei. Someday, with God's grace, you and Katia can be together for all eternity. May it be.
Oh my goodness, this brought tears to my eyes. I remember them as an outstanding and captivating team. When he passed away my heart, like millions others, broke for Ekaterina and Daria! I pray that in finding joy each day, she has allowed herself to love again. 💞
I remember this all to well. I still cry hearing her talk about him. And that moment she took the ice by herself to dance with his memory 😭 then their baby girl came out on the ice it broke my heart . I alway liked their skating, and admired their love 💕.
Scott, we are just happy you beat the vile cancer and are still here with us. You and Sergei had a great friendship. I can’t begin to say I understand how hard his passing hit those who knew them. As a G&G fan, my heart was broken. Daria and my son share the same birthday. Every year as he grew up, I always wondered how Katia was doing. What she was able to survive at such a young age, was truly amazing. We all love and miss Sergei. I wish I had been able to meet him.

Thank you for posting this! Katia and Sergei's beautiful yet tragic story is a constant reminder of how short life can be and that we should try to find something to be happy for everyday, even when things get tough! ❤️ Rip to wonderful Sergei and more power, love and strength to Katia and her family forever💙
This is beautiful. I still remember the day Sergei died. Daria truly looks just like her father....and it is amazing. What a beautiful pair Gordeeva and Grinkov were. They will live on in our hearts forever. Katia is a so strong. Sergei is still missed.

I cry too with them. Every time; regardless of the time that has passed. Sergei was such a beautiful soul. Katia flourished with him. Such a gift. Seeing Daria grow up has been such a pleasure. So well-spoken, so intelligent, so beautiful, and a mystical combination of her parents. Her smile and eyes is like staring at Sergei across that veil. I hope though that Daria makes sure her heart is healthy in case she inherited the same problem.
the greatest blessing for this couple is that they experienced a great rare love in their best years and that they were blessed with a child of this love....the loss of her husband hurt her deeply but their baby strengthened her and was the reason she endured his loss, his death over the time matured her even more and I believe she understood more now how rare it is what the two of them experienced... great loves are unique and important when they are full of positive emotions when one lives for the other and try the best, Sergei was a really special men and he still lives inside Katya s mind and soul she keeps him alive with every way and she try the people to not forgot him....excellent couple, nice people mentally, nice families from behind with honesty, seriousness, they give to their children love, kindness and respect and that's why these children came out first of all worthy people...Katia is a rare person like Sergey was really like them both.... excellent people and athletes....
I'm reminded how beautiful their love was (which was obvious to me as a kid watching them on TV) and also what a kind-hearted pure soul we have in Scott Hamilton
Bill Lowe Amen a thousand times! This is why, I believe, these two captivated the world. The only other celebrity couple that seemed to have that great a love were Lucy and Desi. Their ending was more tragic in many ways.
Ekaterina you are so amazing .. Your life touches me deeply .. My mother and my siblings and I lost my fater when I was five .. before my marriage and three years ago I found your story and your beautiful work with Sergei and my heart has been touch and linked to you somehow .. and I keep returning to your story and I am very glad you are still there skating and spreading beauty and sharing yourself with people like me .. Thank you very much .. Keep spreading the beauty and love ❤☀️
So sad, many years later, Katia and Scott still very emotional speaking about Sergei! He had to have been such a beautiful man…. So sorry we lost him and that he lost the chance to spend his days with his Katia and Daria! He was an amazing Dad, husband, partner, best friend, her everything …. Katia is such a strong lady. May she find much happiness in her future.
Thanks for posting this! I'll never forget finding out that Sergei died, and I feel so grateful that Katia continues to skate and share her life with us.
True life fairy tale of a soul mates. They were so lucky. We all search for this deep love and connection that makes our heart skip a beat. They were perfection on and off the ice. Katie was the pillar of strength and grace. She was 24. Daria is definitely her father’s daughter. It’s almost spooky how much she looks like Sergei. Kati is obviously still has great love for Sergei. That kind of bond only happens once and only if your really lucky, G&G we’re amazing to watch then and still remain perfection on the ice. Sergei is loved and missed always. How does a person ever get over the loss of a love that deep? They had the extra bonus of being the best pair team. She suffered a double loss. Her grace and strength are amazing.
I was reading her book " To My Sergei " couple months ago and this story really touched me. They were living such a great moment in their lives in many levels as a couple, competitors, parents, living a dream ....then death took that away !!!!!... ...I have a partner , who I love with all my heart and having projects with.I CAN'T imagine if he die, he's my love and best friend! Katia was a very strong woman , I admire her. Good thing that she has Daria, that's a piece of Sergei with her!! ❤
Scott I think has always been like a second dad to Daria, it'd be really lovely if he walked Daria down the isle I think Sergei would approve of that. Sergei will never, ever be forgotten he lives through his beautiful daughter and Katia's incredible strength and courage she is the definition of what a real, strong independent woman looks like.
@rarara9472 the bald guy talking at the end. He was another popular skater in the 90s and good friends with Katia and Sergei. They were all traveling together and skating in the same show when Sergei passed.
@rarara9472 "Scott" is Scott Hamilton. American figure skater who won 1981-1984 United States National Championships, World Championships, and 1984 Olympics. He turned professional, skated in Stars on Ice (where he skated with Katia & Sergei), and then became a figure skating commentator.
Son of Hecate Yes. He must be a fine man and treasured his friend, Sergei. I have never read one ill word of Sergei. He was a rare man. Honesty, selflessness and humility were his signature traits. What's not to love? Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and may perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen.
Daria is so much like Sergei, he lives on in her and in any children she may have, this was a truly beautiful love story, like a dream to watch them on the ice, they were lucky, despite his sad death so young, not everyone experiences a love like this.

I agree with both comments 1988 winter Olympic skating programme was special,
The daughter looks like a druggie and that wouldn’t be the case if he was alive today for her
Absolutely beautiful! I never saw this! Daria does look just like him, always have.......
@@WickedlyMe328 I didn’t know them at the time. Did everybody in the audience cry? I know I would if I were there.
@@WickedlyMe328 Thanks. Did you ever get to see G & G’s performance on the ice? People always say it’s magic.
@@biskit96 I did in 95 with Stars on Ice and their final competition skate before he died. And yes it was pure magic
What a beautiful love story. Daria looks exactly like her father. I can not imagine 😭
Scott Hamilton aged so wonderfully. What a great guy!
Bless, Scott! He truly lost a brother.
OMG. I watched them from when they started until he passed. I never watched figure skating again after that. And even now, whenever there is a piece about that, I still cry. I'm crying right now. 💔
Oh my god, she looks just like her Dad! 😢❤️ Sergei lives on. Beautiful.
I can still remember the day he died. It was heartbreaking. Katia was so strong for Daria and the Stars on Ice cast....especially Scott! Daria does look just like her father!!
Ekaterina is a beautiful skater and your daughter is beautiful, Sergie is proud of both of you!
Am I only one broke down and cried when you see his daughter all grown looking so much like him. It’s like he’s still here.
Nope. You're not the only one. I can barely think about the love Ekaterina & Sergei had without weeping.
She has always looked like him. I was at Celebration of a Life skate…sat not far from her family…I truly caught that glimpse of Sergei at the end of her solo skate holding Dasha…I said to my mom “She looks just like her daddy.”
Her mom was holding Daria after the skate I meant…not me…
Yep, I'm a blubbering mess now. Love Katia, Sergie, Daria, and Scott to the ends of the earth.
A love like that never dies even when one of the two does. It stays with you. Your heart and mind lock memories and emotions that never truly go away even if you remarry. With Daria there's a beautiful reminder of their love every day. She will take that great love with her til the end of her life.
Как Вы все правильно сказали читаю коментарии и плачу боль остаеться на всю жизнь
Man what an emotional video it really tugs at your heart. I remember how hard it was to believe that Sergei had passed away because he was always like the most fit strong skater out there. Dasha looks so much like her father it's unbelievable.
Столько лет прошло, а боль не утихла. Дочка копия папы.

This still brings tears.

They are the greatest pair skater. They hardly lost a title. They always won. Their love was so evident on and off ice.
“Live each day with lots of smiles and say I love you.”
One quote of Katia’s I’ve never forgotten.
Their daughter is the perfect mix of her parents
There is no mixture,Daria is all Sergei
They are one of the reasons I hope heaven really exists so they can be together again one day.
amethyst5512 Ah... it exists! There is justice somewhere, and it certainly isn't here.
Such a beautiful pair 🔥😍 how can one even imagine losing your skating partner, husband and best friend?
And they grew together. :(
It´s just incredible how much Daria looks like her dad
Katie and Sergei had the deepest, truest, most genuine love for each other. I’ll never forget when he passed. We all dream of having a soulmate. Katia and Sergei were the perfect example of soul mates. It made it even more special because they were pro skaters and partners. Daria is so her father’s daughter. It’s almost spooky. Every time I see Katia, I can’t help but see Sergei. He’s such a huge part of Katia and Daria.
Daria has always looked exactly like Sergei from the day she was born, but wow! She’s like his identical twin now.
Красивые мама и доченька! С каждым годом боль утраты не угасает... Катя знает, как счастливы они были бы с Сергеем сейчас...
The most beautiful couple in figure skating and life!!! I admire you, still keep watching your amazing performances, gives me goosebumps every time I see your skating. Спасибо за ваш труд и великую силу духа, Катя.
Это такая потеря. Мы помним Сергея и будем помнить... светлая ему память.
Помним! Любим! 💕🥀
I remember when he passed. They were my favorite skating couple ever!
It's unbelievable to think that in this clip Daria is almost the same age that Sergei was when he passed away!

Keeping my finger's crossed it's not passed to Daria as Sergei & his Dad died of the same heart problem.
Боже мой! Какое счастье, что дочка похожа на отца, просто копия!
the greatest blessing for this couple is that they experienced a great rare love in their best years and that they were blessed with a child of this love....the loss of her husband hurt her deeply but their baby strengthened her and was the reason she endured his loss, his death over the time matured her even more and I believe she understood more now how rare it is what the two of them experienced... great loves are unique and important when they are full of positive emotions when one lives for the other and try the best, Sergei was a really special men and he still lives inside Katya s mind and soul she keeps him alive with every way and she try the people to not forgot him....excellent couple, nice people mentally, nice families from behind with honesty, seriousness, they give to their children love, kindness and respect and that's why these children came out first of all worthy people...Katia is a rare person like Sergey was really like them both....
excellent people and athletes....
I'm reminded how beautiful their love was (which was obvious to me as a kid watching them on TV) and also what a kind-hearted pure soul we have in Scott Hamilton
I still remember the day he passed. It was a somber day for a kid who loved skating. It was never the same after that day. ❤️
Прекрасная пара! В спорте и в жизни! Даша очень похожа на папу! Счастья и удачи!!!
It seems their love was pure and honest. A good example of how people should behave.

That ‘88 program at the Olympics is still my favorite pairs program of all time.
