Another step of your challenging bike tour. Great landscapes, helpful people in an emergency. A great help for all those who plan the route themselves. Wait for more!
Great video! That fat little critter running across the road as you approached Platoro was likely a marmot, I have never seen a beaver move that fast, although I couldn't see so clearly in the video. Thanks for sharing and welcome to Colorado.
Thanks Jacob! Marion and I were debating that little critter as well. She also said it was a marmot. Well she was closer, and you have obviously more experience. It was a marmot 😜 Fast indeed…
Wow, that feels amazing to hear CD! I obviously have a direct connection to the videos. I personally watch them over and over again…haha. Relaxes me and I enjoy the music 😂 I love the sounds of water, birds and gravel 😜
You seem to be in love with the sounds of water as much as we are 😍 The sounds are one of the magical ingredients that make the ride along Conejos River very special!
Great videos! Watching them religiously the day they come out. Did sobo four years ago. Bringing back memories. Planning a nobo starting May 15. In your opinion is that too early? Concerned about snow. Thanks and keep posting.
Hi Kim, wow, so glad to hear you enjoy the videos. Last year May 15 would have been just 2 weeks to early. There was still a looot of snow crossing Brazos ridge. You will also see last chunks of snow on the road in next video climbing up from Platoro. Keep fingers crossed for you!!!
Thanks, Kim! Have so much fun preparing for your ride! I’d love to go back too! Which other rides do you like? We are looking for new favorite routes to explore 😀
So where did you stay at the Horca intersection? We looked at the route and I guess there is a seasonal rest stop at the intersection, before you head up river? And a campground just below?
Hi Jon, Horca is a tiny, cute place. We did actually camp right in front of the Horca gift shop on the porch, they have great pies :) (other racers did that before, we also left really early in the morning, you just need to ask them real nice before). We only did that because, at that point with my medical problems, I came back very late from Almosa, and we were exhausted mentally and physically and did not feel like moving anymore. Our original plan was to go all the way to Platoro. There is a great (!!!) warm showers host in Horca too. And there is also a campground not far away.
Hi Mike, when out there camping, maybe a bar or a tortilla with almond butter and jam. I carry a loot of Cliff Blocks in my frame bag and also sent a package ahead to post office with strips sensors blocks needles and maps. Since I have a pump, and I can really time eating so well before getting on bike, I have developed standard routines of eating and not injecting and reducing my basal rate often to 0%. That s the nice thing about the flexibility with the pump. Don’t need to eat all the time then as well. And I can tell you, on some rides my basal was 0 and I still had to eat ;)
@@MarionandFred I´m impressed that You can do such a long trip and keep Your BS-levels in line. I also have diabetes I and a pump. And I love doing long cycletrips But only like 60-70km! And I find it always so difficult to fend off the ups and downs of the BS.

Fred, what would you eat for breakfast? I try to eat something every 30 to 45 meanie ro keep my bs up. Do you follow any kind of pattern like that?

That wasn't a beaver. Most likely a squirrel. Beavers can't run that fast and they don't carry their tail high like that.
