I am going to say this from the angle of a Nintendo fan who played on the Wii U and some of the older systems I collect for 90% of this console gen. I also do conceptual illustrion on top of that. This is being put out there to show that I know bad graphics when I see them, and a fanbase that simply doesn't like a new artstyle because it is different. Remember Wind Waker? Anywho, let's backtrack a little. I never grew up with Crackdown. I literally only started playing the first game 2 days ago on an Xbox One S my brother got me, so I have no bias or anything of the sort with this series. With that said, I find it very interesting regarding all of the complaints I have read about the game. Examples being: The graphics, and the lack of a massive populace. (The story sucking sounds like what I'd expect from a game that is clearly not taking itself seriously.) Haven't seen Crackdown 3 yet live on XBO. However based on what I have seen in gameplay on UA-cam and videos like these, I think it looks gorgeous! One of my few complaints with the art style of the first title was how the game didn't seem like it wanted to fully commit towards bright lighting or darker, more drab tones. The comic book, cell shaded nature of the game felt like it could be a bit brighter, or a bit darker and look so much better. If only they would fully commit! Luckily Crackdown 3 decided to commit to a style and chose the brighter side of comic books. It honestly looks almost like how I wish the 1st game should had looked (except like far better with better hardware.) It seems most players wanted a grittier title, more akin to what is in Gears, and the Playstation titles. However I just don't think that would fit the series aesthetically. The 2nd complaint I hear often is the lack of a massive populace. While I do think a few more NPCs would make the world a bit more lived in, I actually think it would cause more harm than good, as I felt when playing Crackdown 1. In Crackdown you are essentially a superhero cop. You gain most of your skills by fighting baddies in the game world. This is fine and dandy, except one little nuisance (or a couple thousand.) That nuisance is the populace. You lose points whenever you kill a civilian, forcing you to thus fight more baddies and regain those points to level up. It can be quite tedious in the middle of a firefight or when in a race with a vehicle. The game is literally designed to punish you for hurting the populace and it can get a bit tedious. Games like Assassin's Creed have done similar things which frustrate me when playing. It makes me thank God that Arkham Knight didn't put civilians in the city as it would have been a living nightmare avoiding them. Meanwhile, games like Prototype and Infamous use the populace to their advantage as methods of health pick ups, and leveling. However this fits with the narrative of those games much better than Crackdown, as civilians getting harmed does not effect the player too much (any accidental kills can quickly be rectified. That just doesn't work in Crackdown with it's system for punishing you if you hurt a civilian. With that said I do think Crackdown 3 could inject just a teeny few more people in the streets. However just imagine how much of a pain in the ass it would be fighting a bunch of enemies, while tip toeing around civilians with their dumb AI. All n all, I think I'll still try out Crackdown 3. Definitely appears to match up to my expectations. Gotta beat the first game before then however. Story sucks, but I certainly love the gameplay so far (despite it being a 12+ year old game.)
@@sonic-bb Crackdown 3 was in development hell since 2014: Released on February 2019 (the month and year Kim Possible live-action film aired), it changed the story (from Los Muertos to TerraNova, not confused with the TV series of the latter), downgrading effects and sounds, and even tone down the destruction (from big, realistic chunks to small Lego-like pieces).

Co-op is a blast. I sometimes feel that people that don't like this game, don't get it completely. I don't watch Rambo movies for plot and in-depth character development; I play this game for the sheer arcade amusement of chaos and it's a good break from the other, more sophisticated games that I play too.
No surprise, since the original Crackdown was developed by the creator of Grand Theft Auto, David Jones. He did initially have a hand in Crackdown 3 when it was unveiled, but we all know that this game went through development hell. With all of the flaws, it’s still a fun, decent game. I’d give it a 7/10. The franchise still has potential.
@hotel for dogs 2 and also 1 I'm a Crackdown fan. And this is exactly what I wanted First I could careless about realistic gun in a game where I have a Blackhole gun Second Terry Crews and the classic announcer Third the game play is fast, fluid and familiar. I didnt need to look up anything it was like picking up an old friend. To those that want to say the original is better, no it's not. The NOSTALGIA of the original is better, this is an upgrade in everyway
@hotel for dogs 2 and also 1 negatives The driving is both trash and pointless. The layout is so bad I barely used any vehicles The day cycle makes climbing towers nearly impossible especially the harder ones, it's so difficult to judge distance The map isnt a populated (but there are battles where you are so busy your glad they arent there because you'll kill them easily. I cant tell you how many I've accidentally killed turning the militia on me when I was focused on bad guys) Free aim is horrible But this series is just about mindless fun and any complaints about destruction would negate all platforming which is a major component of the game. Overall I'm not saying rush out and drop 60, but I will say it damn fun at 30 or less and I literally have a total of 8 hours in and I'm almost done, 2 bosses left and I did alot.

Crackdown 3 honestly isn’t that bad. It’s one of those games that doesn’t have that much wrong with it technically and doesn’t have any sketchy marketing tactics behind it. If you like it, you like it. If you don’t, you don’t. Tbh I think the formula just hasn’t aged as well as it should have.
@@Zrosum yeah, that was kinda bs but i wasn't really too fussed about it because i was expecting the cloud to run like shit due to crappy australian internet.
@@sweetyeet235 I hear you, but your personal expectations aside it was extremely shady marketing as this game was touted to be the next big AAA flagship Xbox exclusive with groundbreaking tech, gameplay and 4 Player co-op campaign. The marketing was full of lies and deception. The game is "fun" for a maximum cost of $10 to play via Gamepass but not even worth considering at its $60 msrp and honestly, I've got a list of game that even at the $10 and below cost I'd much rather be playing than this. Microsoft knew they had a dud ont their hands and reduced the marketing around the game from Next big IP to a puny stealth release with Game Pass for $1 being heavily pushed around it.
That said I've really enjoyed the game so far. As a crackdown fan of the original game when it released I am more than happy with what the development team made here.
Crackdown 3 legit looks like a Saints Row IV spin-off, and I don't mean just the art style. The animations, the mechanics, the crappy dialogue, they all look copy-pasted from Saints Row IV.

More and more as I go to more CrackDown 3 videos I'm seeing a lot of hate. And these comments are usually coming from the crowd that haven't tried the game, don't own a PC or Xbox to play it or are just jumping on the bandwagon to feel included. I've played the game and while it isn't what was advertised when first shown is a pretty good title in it's own right. No, the destruction from E3 from many years ago isn't in Campaign. No, it's not the 4 player co-op that it was once advertised as. No, the art style isn't appealing to some people. But is it fun, yes. It is pure unadulterated CrackDown fun and that is what it's supposed to be. There is nothing wrong with the title looking as it did (but with obvious changes) from the franchise's first title. People fail to realize that a drastic change to a product may cease to make it what it's supposed to be and turn off those that love a product for what they know it to be, what they want it to be. Imagine if they put killstreaks in Battlefield titles or added bullet drop to COD, the fanbase of both franchises would be up in arms complaining about it. Give CrackDown a shot, lay your BS expectations to the wayside and just have fun. At the end of the day isn't that what gaming is or supposed to be, fun?
Lot of excuses for what's ultimately a waste of money. I have a full review scheduled to release later this week that highlights my full thoughts on the game and why it's simply not worth your money. Yes, games are supposed to be fun, and Crackdown 3 just isn't. It's a clear cash-in on a failed experimental project with the "Crackdown" name pasted on it just to help push more copies.
Same lmao. Also I played it a few months ago and realized how hard the game gets after beating the first gang. Legit couldn't leave the orange base thingy without getting shot down by the volk
For 2007, Crackdown was actually an amazing open-world game. Not as good as GTA, but definitely a mix of a realistic and slightly futuristic setting, and it was actually one of the most iconic Xbox Console Exclusives out. But CRAPdown 3 is 100% a mobile-looking game that was nothing more than a waste of 6 years that Xbox could have put into another game.
I agree. I love these vids and channel; but, it is definitely not a fair thing to add tech that didn't exist to CD1 that didn't exist. They are buffing it, basically.
Such a tiny step up visually for 12 goddamn years! And, in some places, even a DOWNGRADE, Jesus! Let's have a look at The Witcher VS The Witcher 3 to see how AN IMPROVEMENT is done (in 8 years, btw, NOT bloody 12) Great video, as always, Nick!
Hopefully the modding community will be able to create a mod that better populates the city. The environments look completely lifeless with how few NPC's are around. It kills any sense of immersion seeing this big city with no people on the streets.
I tried crackdown 3 with gamepass and it literally gets boring so quick. Same repetitive missions and gameplay. The city feels lifeless and empty and the driving is ass. Its worth like 5 hours of fun but then you realize that your just jumping around doing the same shit and it becomes a drag to even continue. The graphics look good but not by much especially considering they had all that development time to make it play and look good but nope.
Every videogame has some form of repitition, youre simply not a crackdown fan thats fine, but dont trash the game because its not your taste. Btw crackdown 3 has had a rough development, the end product was not their intended outcome but that was the best they could do. Every development isnt smooth sailing, its a miracle the game wasnt cancelled but i must say i thouroughly enjoyed the game and hope they keep updating it with new content
Are you really complaining about repetition in video games? I'll bet you don't complain about repetitious actions in other titles such as GTA V, COD, BF or any other titles you may play. All titles have repetition/patterns and it's up to you in how you tackle most objectives in almost any game. Could it be that you yourself are repetitious and tackling mission types with the same tactics each time?
@@stickmen_legends0012 not trashing it just my opinion. I'm glad u enjoy it but I guess it just wasnt for me. And alot people feel that dont say were trashing it just because people give a opinion that you dont agree with.
The only thing I miss from Crackdown 1 is the vehicle evolution and launching down the agency tunnel when you enter the world. Aside from that, I think 3 is the better game by far. I find the sleek neon crayola future to be much more fun and appealing. The "gritty" style of Crackdown 1 always felt like off-brand GTA 3 to me and I'm happy they leaned away from that.
Crackdown 3 more of a crowd pleaser? Has this game ever managed to gather a crowd to begin with? How can there be less traffic, less pedestrians, less grittyness? I wouldn't give this lackluster effort space on my hard drive.

(The story sucking sounds like what I'd expect from a game that is clearly not taking itself seriously.)
Haven't seen Crackdown 3 yet live on XBO.
Why did u have to write a 500 word essay :(

@@sonic-bb Crackdown 3 was in development hell since 2014: Released on February 2019 (the month and year Kim Possible live-action film aired), it changed the story (from Los Muertos to TerraNova, not confused with the TV series of the latter), downgrading effects and sounds, and even tone down the destruction (from big, realistic chunks to small Lego-like pieces).
The hologram on the character models are impressive in CD3.

But why did it go from a serious mafia game to some bizarre wacky game?
Meta ModernSounds I’ve only played from two onward but the game tried to have a blend of funny (Sons of -I forgot the name-) and serious moments (Ronin and the Brotherhood if I remembered the gang names correctly had good serious stories) which I assume after two the writers or someone thought it was meant to be more funny and it went downhill from there I think anyway it’s been so many years since I last played two

im a ps4 fan , but this game was actually very fun in co-op mode
Co-op is a blast. I sometimes feel that people that don't like this game, don't get it completely. I don't watch Rambo movies for plot and in-depth character development; I play this game for the sheer arcade amusement of chaos and it's a good break from the other, more sophisticated games that I play too.
Very good comparison! Thanks for doing these as always they’re very informative and interesting.
Crackdown 3 looks like a graphics overhaul mod for the original Crackdown. Not a AAA title from 2019.
Having a blast, 3 more bosses to go. Thank God graphics dont mean a game is fun or not.
@hotel for dogs 2 and also 1 I'm a Crackdown fan. And this is exactly what I wanted
First I could careless about realistic gun in a game where I have a Blackhole gun
Second Terry Crews and the classic announcer
Third the game play is fast, fluid and familiar. I didnt need to look up anything it was like picking up an old friend. To those that want to say the original is better, no it's not. The NOSTALGIA of the original is better, this is an upgrade in everyway
@hotel for dogs 2 and also 1 negatives
The driving is both trash and pointless. The layout is so bad I barely used any vehicles
The day cycle makes climbing towers nearly impossible especially the harder ones, it's so difficult to judge distance
The map isnt a populated (but there are battles where you are so busy your glad they arent there because you'll kill them easily. I cant tell you how many I've accidentally killed turning the militia on me when I was focused on bad guys)
Free aim is horrible
But this series is just about mindless fun and any complaints about destruction would negate all platforming which is a major component of the game. Overall I'm not saying rush out and drop 60, but I will say it damn fun at 30 or less and I literally have a total of 8 hours in and I'm almost done, 2 bosses left and I did alot.
the multiplayer took 6+ years to make, not single-player. Do some research, you probably never played it.

@@sweetyeet235 I hear you, but your personal expectations aside it was extremely shady marketing as this game was touted to be the next big AAA flagship Xbox exclusive with groundbreaking tech, gameplay and 4 Player co-op campaign.

Are you really complaining about repetition in video games? I'll bet you don't complain about repetitious actions in other titles such as GTA V, COD, BF or any other titles you may play. All titles have repetition/patterns and it's up to you in how you tackle most objectives in almost any game.
