    I have a 2 year-old daughter that has told me that she doesn't want to eat animals. I've stopped eating meat so that I can find delicious and nutritious meals that I can make her. She's a very picky eater, but I'm determined to find dishes that she'll eat. She hasn't tried tofu yet, but I'll try the first dish without the chili sauce (she's very picky and doesn't like spicy foods) and maybe substitute with soy sauce. This was a great video.

      Pamela Capati aww that is sooo sweet of you to do. Most parents would just say it's not healthy, or force them to eat meat. Thank you for being such a supportive parent.

      That's amazing! 💕 I wanted to be a vegetarian when I was around 5, but my mom didn't support it; looking back now I don't know why since I found out years later that she herself had been a vegetarian as a young adult.

    I am not vegan (yet), but I've been watching your videos for a while and tried out a couple recipes (salmon and hot dog). I sorta decided today that I'm going to switch to a full vegan diet. I guess I've been afraid of being miserable, but your videos have taught me I can still be satisfied by vegan meals. So thank you!
    Also, I am trying that sweet chili recipe tonight! :)

      @franziskahuber9664 7 років тому +23

      Hey there! As you commented this pretty recently, I'd like to give you a couple of tips, so you may transition smoothly. It's great to hear, that someone's making the choice to be vegan! But form experience I can tell you, that going vegan from one day to another can be bit of a challenge. First of all, your digestion system might be go crazy. If you have cramps, which is pretty common, just switch to a vegetarian diet for a week, so your body can get used to your new diet. There's no shame in it, believe me.
      Anyway, I hate to break it to you, but you may want to consider your dinner choice. If you haven't been eating tofu regularly before, you want to stay off it for a while yet. If your body's not used to it, tofu can be a bit problematic and it would probably aggreviate any stomach pain you might experience. Rule of thumb: You want to avoid any typically 'vegan' foods for at least a week, better two, then introduce them slowly. This includes tofu, vegan cheese, soy anything, lots of legumes, anything you're not used to. There's nothing wrong with these foods, you're just not used to them yet. Remember, your diet is perhaps the biggest outside influence on your body, that you can control. If you attempt to change everything at once, you're body won't be up for that. Change things slowly, one after the other. Take time to adjust.
      If you want to jump start things, you can try 'reboothing' your body. Fasting works pretty well. For example, only drink water and vegan broth for a day or two, then you add in all kinds of fruit, then vegetables, then grains, legumes, fancy stuff like tofu and you should be good to go. Bit of a hassle, but has the sideeffect of resetting your tastebuds as well.
      It's probably wierd, that I'd write that long of message to a complete stranger, but I've seen people switching everything about their diet, failing horribly and then going back to hot dogs and mac n cheese. Hell I almost did that.. So? Uh? Sorry for bothering you and stuff, hope everything works out. k bye *hides*

      Congrats! Smiling so wide just reading your comment and knowing that I can help in some small way. Really don't worry too much about the transition; do it on your own time. Took me quite some time just learning more and taking small steps before I could stick to it 100%. Every little bit counts. :)

    • @alsoDrew
      @alsoDrew 7 років тому +6

      sandra huber Thanks Sandra! I appreciate you taking the time to write that out. I was able to take away some good tips from that. The one random thing I have going for me, however, is that I was raised on an organic soy farm and have been eating it for a long time (gotta support the family trade! 😂).And I get tofu as my "meat" about 75%of the time...almost always if it's an option. I just virtually never cook with it tofu. I prefer mushrooms as a meat sub honestly.
      But I do like the idea of fasting for a few days. I'm going to try that out on Monday and Tuesday, i think, because I want to reset a little as you said. Thank you again for your thoughtful response!

    I tried the first recipe as suggested. The Tofu was fresh, but properbly not drained enough, because the starch got a little sticky. I also forgot to mix the starch with the salt and pepper, but it turned out that you can just add it in the pan.
    It was quite good :)

    Thanks! I'm looking forward to trying the tofu with the cornflour coating for that bit of extra texture. At my local Asiana markets they have the bags of deep fried tofu that just need sauce and heating up, but this looks less naughty. Also love marinading tofu in harissa/hoisin or in a pesto-y sauce i've blitzed up. The sugar in the hoisin and the oil in the pesto, when the tofu has been on the george forman grill gives it great grill lines.

Also those who don't want to disturb others with sounds. The auto-generated captions are hard on the eyes and not 100% accurate. I know this video is old but just an fyi to anyone wanting to make the sweet chili tofu, don’t use tapioca flour as a substitute. I made that mistake and had a gummy horrible mess. I was able to salvage the tofu cubes but it took twice as long as it should have to make.

    Got some leftover tofu in my fridge at the moment, was wondering what to do with it as I never usually use it - that jerk tofu looks amazing, I'm gonna have to try it!

      It's so good! I used to go to a Jamaican restaurant that makes it, but I moved away so I had to find out how to make my own.

    Going Vegan for Lent. Who knows... maybe it'll stick. So far it's been 2 days, and I've been living off lentils, black beans and hummus (as protein). Looking forward to trying all these recipes. I don't like peppers, so I'm hoping to substitute that with broccoli, eggplant or carrots (my fav veggies) for the Sweet Chili Tofu.

      That's really cool! My mom and sis are eating vegan every Friday for Lent which makes me so happy! Yep, I think would actually be fantastic with broccoli, and a little bit healthier. :)

    New subscriber here - feeling totally inspired by you! You might have already addressed this in another video so please forgive me if you have (I've binge watched a bunch but not all lol), but would you consider doing a video about your work-out routine? Or even a "work out with me" type vid? Super curious to learn more about how you are staying in shape and gaining muscle. Thanks!!!!
