      Craig O Yes I’m not a big Boone fan, nor was I a Girardi fan. Yanks win 1 World Series since 2000. Martin wins at least 5 of those years. He may get fired and rehired 5 times too but he wins 5 more WS. Oh, and I laugh that Torre is in the HOF and Martin isn’t. Torre couldn’t carry Martin’s jock. Torre was great but not Billy. Martin won everywhere, Torre won with HOFers

    1970s -Great era of managers .Martin,
    Weaver, Anderson , Herzog , Zimmer, Tanner ,Houk , Berra, , Lasorda Torre ……….
    Great baseball men. There were certainly some of the best arguments with umpires as well.

    I always respected Billy because he was badass !!! Billy didn't take crap from no one especially Reggie Jackson. Billy, I heard just about kicked his ass.

      He couldn't even kick Ed Whitson's ass. Whitson cracked his ribs when Billy mouthed off to him. He could have kicked a world class athletes ass like Jackson? Reggie came out of that 1977 season looking like a legend. Billy had to eat crow.

      Jackson probably wins that one but I’m taking Billy to go the distance. Reggie was a beast but Martin was a street fighter. I got spoiled as a little kid with the 70’s Yankees because they haven’t made a team like the 77/78 Yanks since!

      True Billy Martin should be in the Hall Of Fame. Every where he went he turned the franchise around.

    • @dzanier
      @dzanier 4 роки тому

      @@anguslean4058 He was a great manager, but anyone that played for him would tell you playing for him took a psychological toll on the team. He was always high strung, never relaxed, often drunk, sometimes he would take that out on the players, especially the ones he didn’t like. No manager in baseball history had a bigger doghouse than Billy. He never lasted long wherever he managed. That’s because he was unmanageable. It was his way or highway.

    • @JoeCracco
      @JoeCracco 4 роки тому +1

      Daniel Zanier I know a few guys that played for him and none of them said that. They all loved him. They new he was the 10th man out there and other managers feared him just as much as sports writers and umpires. Yankees don’t play in 3 WS without Billy in the 70’s. And 78, that’s still Billy’s team in my book.

    • @dzanier
      @dzanier 4 роки тому +1

      @@JoeCracco In 76 and 77 he was very good, and had a big impact on the team. He always had a positive impact, but in later years he also had a negative impact., You need to read all the Yankee books I've read. You'd better understand what I'm trying to say. To give you some insight into Billy's way of doing things, he once said that of the 25 players on the team he wanted 15 to like him, 5 to not like him, and 5 who weren't certain. He always had a whipping boy. In 78 there's simply no way the Yanks make that comeback if Billy had still been manager. The aggressiveness and winning pedigree they had come from their time with Billy/ But the tranquility Bob Lemon bought to them after Billy's firing was priceless.
