6 - 1 = 5.
You could take one of the two matches that make up the 1 and make the equation 5 + 1 = 6.

I was the 47 + 5 = 8 that got me !
I solve most of these by taking one matchstick and laying it diagonally across the equal sign so, for example, 6+6=8 becomes 6-6 is not equal to 8, which is mathematically speaking, correct.
Some people would call me a smart ass. I prefer to think of it as “thinking outside the box”.
Every puzzle has many, many trivial answers like this one.
If you remove the possibility of "not equals to" you have puzzles that are genuine challenges.
But in the beginning you can read that symbol is not allowed 😆 Would be too easy.
I thought about that one, but the challenge is "fix the equation", not "turn the equation into a fixed inequality".
Not sure thst counts as "fixing the equation," but yeah, always my first thought too. :)

BODMAS does not imply addition is first. Addition and subtraction are the same precedence and are done as they appear from left to right.
The same is true for multiplication and division. The first one of these encountered when going from left to right is done first.

No, that’s not how bodmas works. Adding and subtracting have equal weight, so you will move from left to right regardless of which symbol (- or +) comes first. If you don’t believe me, find any video about bodmas and they will tell you the same thing.
