Hi again, I mention the slowdowns in the last post because I burned a CD-R to test it on my sega saturn with pseudo kai. It works amazing, except for the master librarian store, everything else is working very well. I am very anxious to see how much it has improved, I am already at 50% of the normal castle. Checking all the rooms carefully.
The delays in pressing the control buttons in the librarian's store menu are due to the translucency of the large window with items. How translucency is related to control is not clear.
Any chance of seeing a full english translation patch in the future? I've seen knights0fdragons translations but all of his QOL patches doesn't compare to yours.
The new transparent hud reminds me somehow of Thunder Force V. It interacts like a transparent layer over the background, polygons and sprites. That hud still reveals effects going on. For example: TFV Stage 4, the hud with weapons and score still shows the fog and clouds while in the game is not visible, but still goes on. Is it the same kind of stuff?
Really make me feel wanna try this version too 😖 but I'm really no idea how to put this patch file into original file game like that. Hope someone feel free help sharing patch file in game already please... 🙏
When we get a MiSTer Saturn core and this Extended version gets completed with an English translation, it will be my 1st playthrough of SotN (and I'm 41yo BTW, so I was able to play this game when it originally came out).

No, this is the native size of the portraits. In the PS1 version, they were stretched by the TV, and in the Saturn version, they were scaled in software with loss of quality. Now they have been restored.
@@MeduzaTeam2009 I don't deny this isn't the native resolution. I believe maybe they are not meant to be displayed at native resolution. They must have used sqeezed images accounting for the fact they will be stretched by the TV on PSX and then they used software to simulate that to maintain the PSX aspect ratio on Saturn. not the pause menu one, the ones of richter and dracula. Regardless great job keep it up!
Saturn supports translucency natively, but there are limitations. Most game developers took the easy route to save time and system performance. They used mesh instead of real translucency.
It all depends on how the game engine works. You may need to significantly rework the game engine in order to implement your plans. Or nothing can be done without rewriting everything from scratch.
In the PS1 version of the game, the aspect changed due to the scaling of the image by the TV, since the original framebuffer size was 256x240. Since Saturn did not support this screen resolution, the image was manually scaled, which resulted in a degradation in quality. Now the proportions of the portraits are exactly the same as in the PS1 version (not distorted).

@@LexMalin Во-первых, у каждого видео чипа своя память. А во-вторых, можно просто отключить Mesh и активировать полупрозрачность для спрайтов с конкретным приоритетом. Естественно, что каждое действие требует изменения кода.

Very good but still missing a lot like the clouds, the waterfall and the water in the part of the cave. I'm already in the inverted castle. Megaman x4 with this mod would be the ultimate version.
Translucency has been activated where possible. In other cases, the hardware limitations of the system do not allow you to do more. Why does Megame x4 need a modification?

"Now Loading" looks worse. Why a lowercase n? The character-select portraits look way worse, too bright. Richter's new outfit is canonically wrong as it's a throwback to Rondo where he wore his original outfit. The new text box is nicer, but the portraits look squished and far worse. The Warg death animation is garbage. The portal at 6:45 was always behind the castle. It's in the sky, it makes zero sense for it to be in front of it. The transparency on the item box is too bright and sometimes makes the text hard to read compared to the original.

I can read both fonts just fine, on both my CRT via S-Video and my HDTV/monitor via SCART to my OSSC, as well as my RAD2X by itself. Everywhere I look, your grievance towards Knight is obvious, which is equally unfounded and pointless.

The original portraits are WAY BETTER than the low quality Jpegs used in the hackrom version...

I love the hack but I don't understand the portrait decision. The portraits are squeezed now, the aspect ratio is wrong.

The fonts in game are better than those horrible ones used by knightofdragon in his english version
