This is terrific information and will help ease the concerns of many regarding radiation exposure. Always a thumbs up for the amazing videos!! Thanks again!
Another good test for microwave construction quality is to open the door while it's running, vs hitting stop button (or end of timer) and then opening the door. Some microwaves blast radiation when you use the door open button while it's running, while others shut down the magnetron before the door begins to open. I'd be interested to know what yours does since you have the sensor. I found about this on an RF forum where some scientists couldn't figure out where a bunch of RF noise was coming from. They finally realized that it was from people that opened the door to stop the microwave in the break room, vs the majority of people letting it stop before opening the door. Neat stuff as always, love your channel!
What a great and eclectic channel, subbed! I watched your other microwave repair videos. My missus' SMEG microwave went BOOM the other day when she pressed GO. There is still power to it, cabin lights on, turntable revolving, humming (kept the door closed!) but the digital display is gone and the buttons do nothing. There is a 12 pin connector on the power board where all the mains wires come and go and this is where the explosion happened! One on the pins actually blew out of the solder connection! It was one on the live line coming from one of the door switches. I repaired the pin connector (and the burnt tracks on the control board beneath where the bang happened!!) but no joy! What would cause such a severe blow out!!!! UK voltage BTW. Cheers.
Microwave radiation, in theory, posses no carcinogenic risk due to it not being ionizing radiation. The worst it can do is skin irritation or (if you were getting the full whack form the magnetron) is you would start cooking from the inside out.
Any suggestions to make it zero a foot away? Aluminum foil? Also 5G is another concern. Can that test it to show a video about that? Also would be funnynif you go to hardware store with marble and point out which ones have radiation just for fun. Thanks
Unless you have 5G base station and narrow beam antenna right near your body... and this applies to all RF devices. Mobile phone and other devices are pretty low power. ( they have very stright SAR limits) Some portable radiostations can have several orders higher RF output and no adverse effects have been found. (If used properly).
@@JanicekTrnecka many homes now have 5g wifi interment. as for SAR iphone has the highest out of all other phones on average going near the legal limit and most put it next to their body which by instructions state it must at least 1 inch away about which most have it in their pockets. No one uses anything properly and everything has to be Fool Proof. lol
2.4Ghz "radiation" , is orders of magnitude lower in frequency than visible light. I take it you check for sunlight leaks through your window blinds too?
Correct, but what does that have to do with the video? I was making a point that the testing device only detects a specific form of electromagnetic energy(radio waves at 2.4GHZ). I'll take natural sunlight exposure, over man-made microwaves any day. Thanks for watching
Two things are going on. First - the conductivity of the shielding of the microwave oven is "only so good": the skin effect in particular results in the electrical currents running in only a very superficial layer of the conductor, and this means there is some phase lag (and incomplete reflection, i.e. some transmission of power). Second, gaps do occur. In a well designed microwave the gaps have compliant conductive seals; but if these lose their springiness I can see how currents flowing around the gap will result in re-emission of microwave energy. You don't need a 2D opening: just a gap that is "long and thin" is sufficient to act as an antenna. Where "long" is a few cm (1/4 of a wavelength)
Microwave radiation is non ionizing radiation, it still definitely will hurt you. It the wavelength vibrates the water in food and other things at a high enough frequency to heat itself (because of friction). Now ionizing radiation is high energy particles, which can destroy cells. Just microwaves are not radioactive like uranium or nuclear stuffs
would be a bit important the quantity of water (cooking) inside microwave bc water would act as a transformer changing energy from that radio wavelength to a heat (infrared and far infrared ) wavelengh . so would be a "sponge" for microwave radio . it would be any difference between 2 liters of water or a cup of coffe WHEN we measure leaked radio !?!
That's true, but we really don't know for sure what kind of long term health effects, or what changes occur when bodily tissues are subjected to microwaves, especially all the time. Thanks for watching!
@@peteahwanzo1504 What I meant in the video, is the other 2 testers look for many forms of electromagnetic radiation, they don't discriminate like the tester used in this video that looks for microwaves only(of a specific frequency). I can't explain things perfectly all the time, I wish I could.
Cool, I am pretty sure the phone is going to be much worse than the microwave. I plan to do a video to show that putting metal in a microwave is beneficial when done correctly.
With the power a magnetron puts out you might be able to damage a drone within ten or fifteen feet if I had to guess but would be able to cause interference with the drone's communications for a little further than that. I would like to stress that modifying your microwave in such a way is illegal(because it exceeds safety limits) and is very dangerous to others around you.

Many people have a bad habit of pushing the door open instead of pressing the stop button first. Thanks for watching!
Great video as usual. Thanks for simplifying the info on what a microwave actually is.
Thank you!
Top Tube video on this topic!

your voice reminds me of joe santos in rockford files! all i can imagine is dennis becker talking about microwave ovens

Sounds like an inverter microwave that had a short circuit.
Great video on a topic I've been thinking about for a long time!
Thanks for watching Glenn! Be sure to share the video link, and check out my video playlists.
Good video. I was just wondering about this questio.
Thank you.

Hi, I am wondering if other sides of the microwave oven (not only front) produce any leakage, eg through ventilation holes. Have you checked that?
Hi Doug. Another winner ! Thank you for the always very informative videos. Liked,Shared. All my best.
Thanks Bobby!
Very informative... Nicely done 👍
Thank you Orley!
How does the leakage compare to home wifi broadcasting 2.4, or to bluetooth devices using 2.4?
I'll likely be comparing a wifi router to microwave oven readings in a video very soon.

Maybe add a fine copper mesh screen over the door. As for the countertops, I've used my geiger counter on a few. Some are quite active. :-)

if those microwave's wave are ~12cm how can they leak throught the mesh or small gaps on doors?

ty bro great vid .

I would think more food in the oven, or water, would absorb more microwaves and slightly reduce the readings shown in this video. Thanks for watching!
appreciate the answer . thanks .
What about putting a cell phone inside a microwave and see of it works, answering a call from another phone? With the microwave off, of course.
It's been done before. :-) Thanks for watching!
I will put the oven in a metal cabinet and close the metal door .... that is, I will make the oven built-in
Maybe it's picking up the spirit in your house more than it is the microwave LOL bon appetit
It only emits non ionizing radiation which should not pose a problem.

Hi Doug. Do you have a way of testing Smart meters ?. If so I would like to see the results. All my best.
No, but I wish I did!
What test would be handy to have if it wasn't a hundred and twenty bucks on Amazon.
You don't have to spend the money, I gave you good info in the video. Keep your distance when the oven is in use.
Electromagnetic = light = microwaves. All the same thing?
They are all part of the electromagnetic spectrum. The meter I used only looks for a specific frequency in that spectrum. Thanks for watching!
And radio waves.
@@electronicsNmore He was mentioning that you were making a distinction in the video where none exist.

Oven runs when door opens
How safe is it to remove food from a running oven?
Could you take that microwave component and make it able to take down drones ?
Directing a microwave oven magnetron at a drone, using a waveguide, would likely work.....but dangerous to the user.

I'm worried about the radiation, microwave from 5G. Should I be concerned?
I'm not an expert, but I don't like the exposure.
