okay, the A-ha segment goes pretty hard. I've never even played the original Quake but you can see how much passion went into making this so hats off to the team.
When I was a child, in high school, I took my computer to school to do a report on 'the future of sport' where I showed all of QDQ1 uninterrupted, and explained how you could make a competitive sporting arrangement out of finishing these games quickly, and treat these speedrunners as athletes. That was like, 1998. This is making part of my brain _melt_
I wasn't near as good as this crew, but back in high school around the same time I had a few records to my name and with some friends. I was taking a computer repair course my senior year and used to finish my assignments as fast as possible because my teacher would let us play video games as soon as we were done. I used that time to see how many times I could beat the game before class ended. Those were some good times :)
I was born 1967, and I've played every id Software game at release date. This game I love. Now there are a lot of QdQ vids out there and Iäve seen many of them, but this one is in its own league. The editing with all its components (cuts, audio PoV's etcetera) is completely outside the box, next level. Many many thanks to the crew who made it possible. This I will save and rewatch several times. Thank you!
Absolutly astonishing! The speedrun itself is a milestone, but the edition is so clever and sick. I absolutely loved the plays with the style in 10:00, and the Take on me part on Jukebox's E3M3 play, oh boi. What a deligtful experience watching this, truly the best QDQ of all time. Thank you so much to all of you
@GoPro Dog That's not how the project works, it's a reference to the original releases of the runs. Quake Done Quick - original project that was run on nightmare. Quake Done Quicker - nightmare, time improved by a couple minutes. Quake Done Quickest - nightmare, significantly improved time. In later years other projects would arise, such as: 100% - required all secrets and kills. Lite - run on easy difficulty rather than nightmare. There later were combinations of such projects like "100% Lite", which followed the same naming structure. As such, "Quake Done Quickest Lite" is the 3rd entry in a segmented Quake speedrun on easy difficulty. The movie is already nearly double the time of the actual run.
This is beautiful. To see this game honored in this way all these years later brings tears to my eyes and warms my heart. Thank you so much for making this!
I was reluctant to watch a recam, but what the actual fuck, those effects are incredible, now I want to see more demos with that comic/black and white effect
This was WAAAAAAAYY more of a spectacle than I was expecting!!! INCREDIBLE!!! Hahahahaha I been playing Quake since I was 13 back in 96... and still just as sick now as it was back then!!!!
Lightning gun trick in e2m6 has to be weirdest time save ever. "Yes, i am spending 30 seconds doing random jumps, and shooting through wall, to kill one spider, to clear way for my later jump"
@@j0zz1e Still look extremely goofy, but yeah, makes perfect sense, it is better than sitting in elevator waiting for it to descend. Especially when every second matters.
Very well done and impressive all of you guys! Have been following the QDQ videos since the 90s and this just simply tops all of them with a vengeance. What a Christmas gift!
Amazing runs and an amazing edit: Feels like the bridge between the QDQ recams of old, 2000s Quake fragvideos, and modern day trickshot montages. Glad to see a new QDQ movie this decade!
Excellent work on this, I can tell a lot of love and passion went into not only the run, but this movie. Good work. EDIT: Oh my god, that Take on Me section was brilliant.
I wish I could've done a 'real' 4K render, but the raw material would've been absolutely monstrous in size, so this 4K version is just an upscaled 1080p quality. It was exclusively created for youtube to force the compression algorithm to apply higher bitrate.
@@j0zz1e well damn, the playback does actually look a fair bit better with the different compression - I was 100% convinced it was native 4k & you just bought some 4-8tb SSDs just to edit this video. Now, please my good sir, dont go & ruin my internet forum cred by telling all the 1337 elite videophiles that I am just a poser lol (dont worry, they wont see this for a while - they are too busy mourning the loss of that s-tier pirate hangout that was basically the only place to find 4k & 8k Dolby Vision / 'uncompressed' master copies of notable pop culture media)
Damn when you stop and think about how much work was put into editing this…. Amazing job all around, highly enjoyable to watch from beginning to end 👏👏👏
You guys have really pushed not only what's possible in terms of running the game, but also what's possible in presenting a speedrun. The edits are super slick and helps expand the scope for people who aren't familiar.
I'm glad this game is open source software, there will never be a point in the future where Quake cannot be run on computers, regardless of what those computers are
Great edits, good effecting. I feel it's hard to understand what's the special moments highlighted are without extensive experience in Quake speedrunning (or watching the explanation on Connor's channel), but as a spectacle it's fabulous.
That was amazing! This must have taken ages to edit. Quake doesn't get the attention it deserves. It's awesome to see people so passionate about it. I played Q1 endlessly back in the 90s and return to it at least once a year. It's about that time again 😂
This is a great achievement. Someone please get Karl Jobst to do a video on the Quake scene, one of the oldest and most distinguished speedrun communities in existence!
Cannot decide what's sickier - the speedrun or the edit. Both are so awesome. Many thanks to all of you guys!

Thanks for sharing this nice memory! Many of us back in those days were high school students also.

10:24 oh my god, this is literally the greatest speedrun video I have ever seen
bruh, how about 18:57?
Absolutly astonishing! The speedrun itself is a milestone, but the edition is so clever and sick. This is the most over-edited speedrun I have ever seen in my entire life. I love it! :D
And this is the lite version! Imagine when the full vid comes out.
@GoPro Dog That's not how the project works, it's a reference to the original releases of the runs.

16 year old me would never had believed any of this was possible.
I was reluctant to watch a recam, but what the actual fuck, those effects are incredible, now I want to see more demos with that comic/black and white effect
same
This video should get millions of views... It's not just speedrun through Quake 1 - it's a blockbuster! Great job.
QUAKE ON ME
I'LL BE GONE
Cinema for the whole family. Oscar for the actors for every second of it. My childhood is fulfilled
i had a dream the other day where Joe was my biological dad
I sleep easy with a picture of Joe watching over me every night
Haha - btw: congrats mr box for your part in this! Allways a pleasure to watch your runs!
I sleep easy when I am Joe
Nothing compares to Quake movement. This movie did it more than justice.
awesome music, awesome run, and awesome edit. Pleasure to watch
This was WAAAAAAAYY more of a spectacle than I was expecting!!!

Not just to clear the way, it makes the rune available for pickup, which is a mandatory part of the whole run.
@@j0zz1e Still look extremely goofy, but yeah, makes perfect sense, it is better than sitting in elevator waiting for it to descend. Especially when every second matters.
Best QDQ video ever
check spiderwaffle's vid called "team fortress done extreme 2" some good old qtf montage
This is a masterpiece! The run is sick but the edition is gorgeous!
what a fantastic edit! thanks so much joe
A-ha so organically included. amazing
10:35 okay, the Quake On Me bit was hilarious
Very well done and impressive all of you guys! Have been following the QDQ videos since the 90s and this just simply tops all of them with a vengeance. What a Christmas gift!
This. Is. Awesome.
Reminds me of the late 90ies Clan / Fan Videos. But yours is one of the best i have ever seen.
Amazing! These videos are what got me into speedrunning this game in the first place. Bravo!
I come back to listen to it from time to time. Still think it's one of the best video game "movies" ever made. Change my mind.
Game developers listen up: This is the essence of action-based shooters. Capture the feeling of this edit, and you'll make it big for decades.
Awesome job Joe!
The presentation skill is as mind blowing as the game playing one!
Masterpiece! ❤
Breathtaking edit
lmao bro I love you for taking the time to do this & going the extra mile on that CRISP 4k 60FPS final render
I wish I could've done a 'real' 4K render, but the raw material would've been absolutely monstrous in size, so this 4K version is just an upscaled 1080p quality. It was exclusively created for youtube to force the compression algorithm to apply higher bitrate.

1996 best year ever for Shooters :)
those perfectly aimed and timed granade jumps are incredibly fun to watch.
Absolute Masterpiece, impressive edit, impressive runs! Thanks for much for all the efforts!
amazing runs, amazing editing, amazing music. can't get better than this!
the pain state faces were a great idea and effect, nice shit man
That there's still people dedicated to this just makes me so happy. Quake Forever
10:26 - A Take on me rész valami hatalmas, de igazán klassz az egész!
Gratulálok hozzá!
Same in English
this is very cool, I'll be back in 13 years
My God this is fantastic, well done to everyone involved, both for the runs and the editing involved.
Congrats on the edit and music selection! This deserves so much more views!
So epic and so much fun to watch! Amazing edit
Sick work.
The ''take on me'' part fits very well, liked it alot.
☺
This is great! Reminds me of the old frag movies we used to make back in the day on Q2 and Q3A. Great work!
Creative! Sick runs as well. Well worth the time!
Wow that was so awesome hope to see more from you would love to see some recams of the new mission pack :)

I can say with certainty that this is and will always be one of the coolest videos I've watched in my life.
Absoutely mind blowing! Incredible.
I'm really impressed by editing at 9:58, never knew that u can skip key trigger. Also, style change is great!
Watched the entire thing!!! Exciting as heLL!!!
You guys have really pushed not only what's possible in terms of running the game, but also what's possible in presenting a speedrun.

Thank you for this magnificent effort
extra cool edit, reminds me of old quake fragmovies
I appreciate this video greatly
Simply stunning... No words to describe this greatness... ❤
I stumbled upon this. Watching it. F**** EPIC!!! ALL AROUND 10/10
Insane
How does this only have 29K views? This is one of the greatest things I've ever seen!
Reminds me of the early 2000's Frag Movie scene, amazing work
This is just plain epic
This is beyond phenomenal congratulations guys 👌👏👌👏👍
The nod to "Take on me" was hilarious.
very cool, thank you for your work
Great run and a great Quake movie 😉👌 thx
I love that the zombie on the wall at 7:45 is grooving to the music.
I absolutely love this compilation, congratulations to everyone!
Szép munka, örömmel tölt el ahogy nézem :)
When it went full take on me I lost it, those edits are nuts! ^^
I'm glad this game is open source software, there will never be a point in the future where Quake cannot be run on computers, regardless of what those computers are
I esp. like how the monsters are being mocked by the music and Racing Ranger--"what the heck just happened?"
Great job! I absolutely loved the Take on me part
luxury, i cant say anything else, masterpiece !!! :)
Wow this is absolutely stellar editing Joe, really sick stuff!
The edit is amazing, this music, this views.
Gratulálok az egész csapatnak!

Insane Masterpiece!
this is like the coolest edit ive seen
Jesus Chrysler, this is so damn good! A sight for sore eyes.
I always prefer seeing speedruns played on the highest difficulty.
What a fucking video, tho. Amazing editing!
I'm more of a purist, I like the original graphics with chunky pixels the most.. but this setup and editing was excellent. Köszönöm!
Great edits, good effecting. I feel it's hard to understand what's the special moments highlighted are without extensive experience in Quake speedrunning (or watching the explanation on Connor's channel), but as a spectacle it's fabulous.
that was jaw-dropping to watch
also, the 9:58 part... just wow
Quake cinematics. I feel young again.
Big Like! Very good video, epic composition, epic runs. Gratulálok! :)
absolute banger
Wonderful work, Joe. 🙂
