  • Hey guys, I’m glad to introduce both a new guitar and a new lease to the channel. The lease was brought by the one and only Santa Klaus, and it’s a Voigtlander 25mm F0.95. It’s manual focus so I plan on failing the perfect focus sometimes, BUT the look of the video is great !
And the guitar is a 1946 Epiphone Emperor that belonged to Louis Stewart, the famous Irish Jazz player. The guitar went to master luthier Dick Knight at some point to add a Florentine style cutaway. It’s a very cool guitar, easy to play, very woody and focus. It has less bass than my 1936 Gibson Super 400 but it somehow manages to cut more on the bandstand with the Umlaut Big band.
I’m playing the beautiful song « Smile » that was composed in 1936 by Charlie Chaplin (with the help of David Raksin). Lyrics were later added in 1954 by John Turner and Geoffrey Parsons. Nat king Cole then recorded the same year a version with strings that became an intergalactic hit.
The guitar is strung with phosphore bronze strings, possibly gauge 12, I’m using a Dunlop gator 0.71mm pick and the sound is captured by both a Neumann TLM 103 and a bluebird Microphone.
Feel free to support the channel if you want/can : www.paypal.me/acousticstandards
I've decided to take a couple of student for online classes so hit me up if you're interested. Contact and info : acousticstandardsinparis@gmail.com
I haven't recorded albums in the style of those acoustic standards, but i have 2 albums on bandcamp with my Django tribute Quartet : romainvuilleminquartet.bandca...
The third one "Three sides of a Coin" is just out, so don't hesitate to drop me an email if you'd like a physical copy, i can ship worldwide !!
I may be considering recording a physical album with these acoustic standards as some of you have asked for it, but as printing cds is being a bigger quest year after year, please drop me a message if you think it's a good idea or if you'd like to preorder one or give suggestions etc.
I also have a youtube channel for the Django stuff with my 4tet : / @romainvuillemin

I like Epiphones a lot. That Emperor got sold before I could see it. This is a real nice one. Rare rto with that cutaway fro a '46 I would think.
