He is tuned in AGCFAD (like d standard, with A on the bottom). They use this tuning in songs like March of the fire ants, Iron Tusk, aqua dementia etc.
They usually play in D standard and drop C. They also play with the 6th string dropped down to A on songs like Iron Tusk, Crack the Skye and Curl of the Burl.
They use three different tunings; D standard, Drop C and Drop A variation which is D standard but you tune the low D to A instead, this gives the effect of 7 string in A standard but without the 6th string (basically a standard power chord shape becomes an octave chord) to me it sounds like he's using Drop A variation here.
Ha! Golden Axe! One of my favorite SEGA games from back in the day! I always used the dwarf with the battle axe. Loved head ramming with his uber Viking helmet!
I don't know about tuning, but there is a demo of Lace Nitro Hemi set and that has a very dark tone. So you will need to find an amp or pedal combo that brings bright, chime, attack in general. Just my opinion.
I find it amusing that this guy and Brent Hinds actually work together.
Golden Axe! Got to meet Bill a couple of years ago on tour and he is the nicest person ever. Who said nerds can't rock?
Bill would hate this, but he IS a guitar hero of mine.
Its like a mix of my two favorite things... Metal, and video games. Except, you know, better.
Bill is so cool. He's always laid back and seems nice.
mastering the psychology of a band, that's what is the greatest task, and he said it in so few words! respect.
Oooh that guitar is so slick

The only mistake they made is not making it into a regular production model.

8:17 amazing riff
They use D standard( DGCFAD) C or Drop C, and Drop A.
Sounds like a humble dude, and he offers great advice to young musicians. He must be playing in a much lower tuning though, anyone know? B Standard?

"when i started listening to the punk rock"
i think its their Drop D/A variation- AGCFAD
Usually C. They use 3 tunings, D Standard, Drop C, and Drop A. Sounds like drop C to me, although I could be wrong.
in another interview he said that guitar is for the drop d sets
Does anyone know whether the first riff started 0:12 is actually a song or not?
and if it is what is that song?
I liked this one.
Thanks.
Mastadon from Rochester New York?
they use their own odd tuning, where the whole guitar is tuned a full step down (D-standard), but the lowest string is then dropped down to A... :)
is that first riff an actual song?
Seems like he's got his head screwed on straight. Rare thing these days it seems.

I believe all Mastodon songs are D standard, drop C, or drop C with the low E tuned down to A. Not sure what he's in right here though.
What song is that riff from at the end of the video?
i think hes tuned to A in this
