I am 61 and starting next month to learn in Cybersecurity
I’m 53 and looking into it myself, just wondering if anyone will take a chance on people over 50.
Can I ask how your journey into cybersecurity is going? Did you get or have a degree? Certifications?
I'm 54...also curious about how it's going? What is your background? Previous IT experience?
Am 101 and I have finished my CISSP certificate and a new job 😊
how was journey?
I'm in my early 30s and tired of working factory jobs. Cyber security is something I'm interested in pursuing so thanks for all the information!
same here bro
Same bro lol
You spoke on behalf of all of us.
Haha same but I'm 22
Same I’m 26 and have been doing driving jobs this whole time
My quick cram method for passing certs has been 1: Professor Messer 2: Examcompass 3: Jason Dion. I sit through all 70 hours of Professor Messer's youtube videos on a cert, then I go to Examcompass and take all the practice tests there over and over until I can click on any one and get 95-100%, then I take Jason Dion's practice tests. I've taken the A+, the Net+, the AZ900 and the Sec+ llike this, and I've averaged about 90% on each one with no prior knowledge. Figure out your learning style then do what works best for you!
Hey thanks for all the info will have to check out the resources you talked about thanks again.
Nice
Awe thank you so much for the tips and what helped you! I’ve been thinking cybersecurity for a while. Sorta regret not pursuing it in college and instead went for criminal justice, kinda still kicking myself although loved my professors!
I usually don't reply but what a to the point fking comment. No waffle. Thank you
Thank you for sharing this. Jesus loves you.
I am 35 and a mentally disabled military vet. I want to start a career and I think this is for me. I love learning and like you said, I CAN DO THIS! :) I am def. gonna check out the rest of your stuff. Thank you so much.
Check out the VETTEC program from the VA if you haven’t yet
Same!!!! I’ll check this out.
Semperrrrr!
I'm telling you, you can do this.
Computer field is something easy, you just have to grasp the basic (theory).
This was so helpful! I’m currently working in finance and will be switching to security in 2023. Thanks for the videos & advice 💛
I literally grateful for this because I was sitting here getting discouraged because it’s so much an I felt overwhelmed! From hairstylist to tech is not normal but I’m up for the challenge an I also am grateful for this video! Whew! Thank you so much!
You are so welcome!
hows it going rn?
The holy grail for cybersecurity resources and tips 👏
Awwww, thank you!!!
Excellent advice. Your videos are so helpful and encouraging!
I feel confident I will be successful in this. I have no IT experience other than a little bit of web design. I’ve had my own businesses and currently do project management. I love to learn and I am willing..plus I love what this stands for and the ever growing concept of cyber security. I hope to be starting a course soon to become certified.
Hows it going?
Hey I saw your video, Now i am starting the google IT certification. thank you for your informational/motivational video. I appreciate it Nicole!
This video has showed that I am on the right path. I had already made my plans and started getting certifications, as well as trying to get my foot in the door for experience. Now all I need is time and I can get into what I really want to do, vulnerability management! Thank you for taking away any doubts that I had lingering.
What certifications are you going for first and do you have a degree in cyber security?
thank you so much for this video, your positivity and your honesty are absolutely refreshing I look forward to watching all of your content!
Thank you for this video. All the information I wanted to know to start my journey
This is my first video watching you. I must say, you're awesome. A great teacher. Keep going. This is a great video for a person who is shaky about getting into this field. You're a great motivator.
Thank you Clarence!
I’m in the US Army right now with 1 more year of service left and am so excited to get started with my cyber security education and career after watching you videos and researching
That is awesome to hear!!!
make sure to get the free IT Certs before you get out
@@mushi3594 awesome thank you
Having your clearance already will make it very easy to get a job as a contractor in Cyber security. You'll need security + to get in the door...then you'll be set.
@@mushi3594 hey , do free certs really help us out ? like free cybersec or IT certs provided by many companies like ec council , cisco, ibm etc , i need ur guidance

I am really lucky to see your video, and it is very helpful for my situation, I am struggling to choose, in fact, as you said, it is the most important thing to concentrate on doing one thing well.thank you for your video, it is very helpful to make me have a clear mind.
Nicole you're my hero. Love the advice!
Thank you!!
This video is really helpful! Here in the Netherlands we have a lot of internships without any IT experience where you can apply for. But I’m scared that I don’t know anything.. so I’m planning to do a course first at a institution where you get certificates and some online courses!
I just visited the Netherlands and loved it. I wanted to move there! Having base knowledge and a few projects you can present them is your best bet. They don’t expect interns to know that much . Feeling intimidated is normal
Hi charlotte and Nicole! I love the Netherlands too. Anyyywho I was just hoping Nicole would see this because I wanted to ask more questions. This video was great and helpful but I was wondering if you could possibly mentor me on my journey in CS please you have no idea how much I would love some direction from someone in the field. If not I understand 😢. Ok have a good evening 🙃

Not playin anymore, starting today at 47 and not plan on ever stopping. Self education definitely, especially what my buddy did going after networking. Biggest books ive ever seen too in his room.
Awesome and straight to the point.
I’m about to take a course in this so this video has been super helpful
would definitely recommend to anyone thinking about cs but haven't taken a step thank you Nicole !
Thanks Roshon
Thank you for your service! Didn’t know you were in the military!
Thanks so much for your info
It was to importante to me what should I do at the first step .
Hello! Thank you for this very informative video on breaking into cyber security. Do you still provide a template for the resume? I didn't see it in the video description.
Thank you for this!😊
Hi! Nicole thanks for this road map on how do I get into cyber security.. Honestly I don't really know on where do I start however your video helps...
Great insight and eye opener. 👁 thank you
Thank you for including that segment about "Decision". To me as I was watching the video I initially thought that "okay she's explaining the definition to "Decision", how unnecessary is that?" then as you expanded your idea talking essentially about the sacrifices you might have to make to pull this off it resonated with me greatly. It made me think about all the things I had to "give up" and change in order to pursue this career. Not necessarily bad changes but they were definitely tough to overcome on their own and that is just a "pre-requisite" to this journey lol (of course if you are highly-functional the "decision" may not even be that dramatic for you as it was for me lol)
Thanks for the worthy content explained about cybersecurity .it helps me to move further in the cybersecurity field.
Great video! I’m submitting applications for help desk to start from the bottom! Seems like an appropriate place to start! Lol…I am applying to some information tech positions that have higher quals but who cares I won’t lie and if I get it, I get it! Hope your well Nicole!
Awwww, thank you Bert!! I have no doubt you can get an IT helpdesk/desktop support job!!
@@nicoleenesse I’m working on it..and recently put down my ccna badge I earned for intro to networks and another for AWS course in school. It really helps them to see everything you have studied on a resume..I would encourage all to get the help desk and start from the bottom, absolutely nothing wrong with that..plus you got nowhere to go but up! Thank you Nicole!
I'm currently 41 and a CNC machinist. I'm pretty close to the wage cap at $81k/yr and am ready to move into something else where I can grow more. A cousin of mine is in cybersec and makes north of $150k/yr. Definitely going to start some free courses this weekend. Thank you for your info.

I’m so glad I came across your channel. I’m in education and I’m looking to change careers. I am currently in an 8 week boot camp focusing on Risk Management Framework. I’m having a hard time understanding the material, and I’m realizing I’m going to need a lot more work to land a job in Cybersecurity. So how do you feel about certain boot camps? I see Thinkful has a cybersecurity certificate but it only contains CompTIA, CompTIA+ Network, CompTIA+ Security, or CySA certifications within its boot camp. Is this just the basic learning of Cybersecurity and IT?
Great content!
btw, where is the resume template located? Thanks!
I’m 16 and I want to go into cybersecurity this is really helpful thank you
Hi Nicole, I have been IT SI sales for over 10 years, what courses or certificate should I take so that I can be cybersecurity sales to increase my salary, CISSP? CISA?.......
Thanks for this video. I'm 37yo and even having a career my job options are pretty low. I'm working right know but I struggle a lot. Since I'm an autistic person with anxiety and a huge burnout I'm looking for a remote job to work from home. I don't even care how well is paid since I can have a roof ober my head and food for me (and my cats). I love IT related stuff but always felt too stupid. And also it's hard to think about a plan and a roadmap when you know very little about all this.
Anyway, I'm going to try, I MUST try, because I like this topic a lot, I can learn like everyone else! And I have to make it real! Thanks for your motivation!!
I have a friend that is autistic and he is a software developer. Works from home, makes a lot of money, and loves it. A lot of people with autism excel in technology . A great book that might help you is Thinking in Pictures, Expanded Edition: My Life with Autism

I am now currently working in the Government field in Agriculture as a Consumer Safety Inspector. I am now looking into a career change and Cybersecurity is what I have been researching for the last 4 weeks now. This Fall 2023 I will be changing my major from Associate in Animal Science to Associate in Science degree in Cybersecurity. I am super excited about this and can't wait.
Great video ❤ thanks 😊
Thanks Nicole. It was helpful.
So glad!
I got my CompTIA Security+ recently and went from helpdesk to an admin role rather quickly, mind you, that last bit was a matter of being in the right place at the right time. I appreciate this video, as my long-term goal is to specialize in cybersecurity, with the goal of being a red-team guy.
Do you recommend getting A+ before network+? I'm trying to get into cybersecurity and I have some what experience working at the Apple store as a technical specialist.
Good solid content. Thanks.
Thanks you’re the best
What sucks the most is i have a degree in cybersecurity and im struggling to find a job. Your videos help though because i wasn't getting any callbacks. Now I at least get calls/emails to talk to recruiters so shouldn't be too long now so thank you. Your tips and tricks have been helping
Try and get hands on experience to backup your degree. Labs, walkthrough videos, certifications and many other ways.
how? I just finished and have 6 offers, but I'm in NYC so it might be different for you.
Nicole, do you have any insight with the 2 different statements???
I have a degree in computer information systems but I have lengthy arrest record (no conviction or felony just weed charges ) have not been able to land a job, any tips help
You'll land something very soon just keep at it! Praying that you land a great job at a great company NOW in Jesus Name! 🙏🏾✝️❤️
Great upload Nicole! Super insightful for people starting in Cybersecurity.
Glad you think so!
Great advice
Hey nicole! fresh out of the medical field, but new to the scene here. Good with hardware and basics when it comes to computers. Taking the self taught route.. do you think i should start with A+?
A+ is a great start. So is the Google IT support certifcate as it's easily digestable
I’ve been eyeing the Microsoft Learn program. They have a free training program or you can choose the paid training path. So they’ve recently introduced a MS Certified: Cybersecurity Architect cert…I’ve been out the loop/IT for almost 3yrs so I’m feeling like I need to start from scratch to get back into IT.
It's a great cert to get!
Can you let me know how hard you have found it?

Hi Nicole,
I’ve seen and heard mixed things about what one can make in cyber starting out. If one had a M.S. in Cyber from WGU with the cyber certs (CEH, etc.) and IT basic certs such as A, Net, Sec, Linux, Cloud, then could one make a six figure salary?? I’ve seen pen test jobs that start at 150k but then I’ve seen other cyber jobs that start at 80k, plus people seem to have different ideas what one can start out at. Any thoughts? Appreciate all your videos and knowledge!
Good point! Hopefully someone can provide some real world feedback
I do really recommend to get your degree in Cyber security! It’s a future no doubt! You better go to deep in Cyber! I really don’t recommend boot camp for CS.
this is really interesting 🤔 I'm do it

I just want to get an IT job to get real-life experience as soon as possible. Since I took some computer science courses I have some fundamental understanding of IT.
Do you think CompTIA security+ can get me an entry-level job? or I should go for CompTIA A+?

Cybersecurity is extremely difficult. You definitely have to be intelligent to be in this field for sure. I’m struggling in my first cybersecurity role. Didn’t have any experience when I got hired. They hired me straight out of college with just security+ and no experience. Linux and Splunk is kicking my ass right now. SPKL is no joke.

@@peaceful4you408 Hey, thank you for taking the time in putting your experience so far. What would you recommend to someone who is starting off? I am receiving my associates degree in cybersecurity and I just want to knock out certifications from there and gain experience through an entry level position. Any recommendations, advice?
@@fantomclothingco Certifications you want to get would be A+ (if you know the fundamentals then you won't need this) Network + and Security + would be the best certifications when starting out. :)
Advice I received from a Cyber Security Engineer was to start interviewing after I got my Network +. I can't confirm if this advice works mainly because I didn't do this but no harm in giving it a try. He said it was because jobs are in high demand so even one certification like Network + can get you an entry level job in security.
Any updates?

@@nicoleenesse I am taking your advice. I signed up for the Google IT Fundamentals Coursera course. It was so interesting to me that I sat there today on my day off and did the course for 8 straight hours. Thank you for mentioning it.

How do you get your foot in the door with no prior experience with job roles? I have both Net+ and Sec+ and have recruiters interested in me but then ghost me when I tell them I don't have any job experience for these "entry level" jobs that they post for.
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
I have a video called 10 ways to gain experience in IT w/o a job. You need to create your own experience, and then make sure to frame your resume to correctly show your work experience. Resume is VERY important for beginners. I do have a course coming out that will go into deeper detail on how to do this
I hard to choose computer science or cyber security degree but honestly more interest in cyber security. I am new in IT field and now i am 34 so which way should i go and i want to your advice.
I enjoyed watching your videos. I'm considering to learn Cybersecurity after what just happened to me. I keep looking at job posting but I get little overwhelm looking at the job posting is that they are asking for a bachelor degree. I thought maybe getting certifications will help but I thought really know, since I'm a newbie in this and would they hired someone with no experience but just certification. Hoping you can help me with this before I decided to go this route, plus will age be a problem. Not getting younger here..
I get overwhelmed when I look at job postings. Take it with a grain of salt. I would devise a plan by looking at entry level cybersecurity job and reverse engineer what you need to learn. Youc an get hired with no experience, but you will need to make up for it in other areas
Age shouldn't be a problem, this field is for anyone who is willing to learn. People can get into help desk job with just soft skills alone and let the employers know that you are in the progress or will be advancing with studies, hands on experience, and home labing, just like any career you got to start from the fundamental side before advancing and if you put in your all, you will able to do what you want to do in Cyber Security field.
thanks alot
Thank you for this i'm hoping to learn cybersecurity and cyber achitechtural, i don't know if ther is a free training for this career
Why was it better to start last year? Just curious.
