This interview is awesome, I love the simplicity of Noah's stereo system, a real audiophile who can enjoy just listening to the music. I'm putting my order in for a T shirt!
Nice to see someone in the ballpark of how I approach things. I too have a Technics 1200 with a Ortofon cart, 1964 MA 230 McIntosh amp, and some Klipsch Heresy 1.5's. I like quality stuff but I'm also turned off by the sterile, fussy, audiophile thing. Nice video Steve.
One of the most enjoyable interviews in quite some time. Thank you Steve and Noah. I purchased the DecWare 25th Anniversary Zen Triode as the first component in my System. Looking forward to pairing it with speakers, turntable etc. Funny, enlightening, informative and entertaining. Looking forward to getting that T-Shirt.
A refreshing choice for interview Steve. Inner directed, authentic, chilled out, open and not trying to impress anyone or be part of the hi-fi hive mind that can sometimes be an online joy-kill.
It took me almost 2 yeras to have the money and hit the Zu sale hit at the same time. I was fortunate to get a set from the last batch. Great speakers.
Steve, I really like this kind of interview!.... I would also welcome more on the Decware/Zu/RP-600M combos, and speakers that are compatible with a mere two watts.
I bought the Townes album when it came out, and starting about '81' I opened for Townes in Austin and was an invited guest to the often Sunday Party close to our old Airport in town. I helped celebrate the Birth of his child and (as usual) ended up with Townes (he was not a strong person) trying to beat me up because I suggested that one day his KID might be a musician like he was. I really can't ever be mad at Townes. Like most people I knew in Austin making music they were kind people with 'terrible drug habits.' .... Chris Layton introduced me to 'John Hammond' over the phone. Hammond talked about me coming to NYC (over the course several weeks of calls) to do a Test Record, but he had a stroke and never recovered. So... Austin and rubbing elbows did help. Willie's (Nelson) group of investments in clubs in Austin sustained me for a few years in the late 90s and early 2000. Willie's son would come and talk to me and tell me how they were going to own more clubs and I was going lead in jobs. If only the Law hadn't wanted to put me in Jail for 5 to 15 years I might have Recorded an album. I didn't quit music though and after relocation, for a time in the NEW area I worked almost 7 nights a week in over 1,000 venues and 4,000 paid gigs 2004/2013. So... Knowing a few Musicians and Music Writers was a nice perk.
I have those same Zus in a slightly different finish and that old Nakamichi deck is featured in my garage setup. Love that thing! And I lust after your McIntosh.
Decware, ZU, Technics (bonus points for 2 and a mixer!), 100 of records and Tape on the floor to mark his listening spot…this guys an audiophile, and an awesome artist. That shirt and his stuff on his walls, this guys awesome. Great video Steve! You have the coolest interviews. I love watching your channel because its so varied, and so cool.

Im in good company...I too was on the last run of the Zu Dirty Weekends mk2. It took a year to get em....and worth it. Just got em about a month and a half ago.
Noah you are going to love the Decware paired with the dirty weekends. I have the same combo and love it. I also got the declare zp3 phono amp.As you mentioned the simplicity is wonderful.

Thanks! There's no direct answer to the question, but 1,500 to 2,000 hours is the minimum, UNLESS you've dropped or otherwise mistreated the cartridge.
Noah… I’m in the same “ark” with you: sitting on a new pair of Omen II Dirty Weekends, waiting on the Zen Triode list, hoping simplicity is a virtue and for these to be a magical combination. I’ve filled the gap by building an Amp Camp Amp.
Ha! I have a Mac MA6200 that I bought new at the time it was released. When I got it, I had Rogers LS3/5As (the 15 ohm) which I still have, and an AR XB turntable which is long gone. It would be fun to pull some of that gear out of storage and set up a vintage system.
good buy on the Decware Zen amp for the Zu speakers. I have the same setup and have also used many many amps, First watt, Pass, Feliks 300B and many others and the little Decware amp is my favorite of them all. Hi! Relatively new to vinyl. I have a Clear Audio Concept turntable and looking to ge a new MC pickup. Anyone out there that can recommend a good MC? Been looking into Hana SL or perhaps Hana ML. But I dont know much about pickups. Grateful for advice!
In past generations of consumer electronics, it was expected that you were buying a quality product that was expected to last decades. However, in today’s marketplace, the quality equipment offered seems to have a built in obsolesces date. I half expect that we may one day see a date stamp on a consumer electronics product saying “best if used by this date Mon/Year”. 🤦🏻♂️😉

Those Japanese pressings will not give you the best sound quality. For that, you have to know which stampers to seek out, and they differ from album to album. But the best ones are never from Japan. I imagine that many Japanese pressing sound very good. But they will never be able to compete with the right white-hot stampers from elsewhere (and elsewhere could be the USA (and a specific pressing plant in the USA), England, Germany, etc, -- it all depends on the album).
Of course it varies. I have all the original UK Vertigo pressings of every Sabbath album. Like I said in the video I haven’t had time to listen to that copy of Paranoid yet but I’ve heard from many people that it’s one of the best. It really comes down to preference and sometimes just luck. Even the right matrix number doesn’t guarantee it’ll sound like the others in that pressing. It’s a good start though. I love my Robert Ludwig Zeppelin II. Back to the best Sabbath pressings, of course the UK Vertigo are smokin’. For Sabotage I prefer the US WB palm trees and my favorite Vol. 4 is not UK, Japanese or US. Not German either. Just a little secret of mine but boy does it sound AMAZING.
For example, The Clash's Sandinista sounds much better the original UK pressing than the japanese, which always have a different tonal balance, different EQ
@@noahlyon "Even the right matrix number doesn’t guarantee it’ll sound like the others in that pressing. It’s a good start though." Exactly. Go with the stamper known for the best sound quality, and that increases your odds on landing a great sounding pressing. If you go with some other stamper, then your chances of landing a gem are zero. "I love my Robert Ludwig Zeppelin II." You have the right one. Treasure it. It is highly sought after by people that know about it. Even if you had $10 grand to spend on one, you simply cannot go on to Amazon and order one. Keep it safe. "Back to the best Sabbath pressings, of course the UK Vertigo are smokin’" I did not know that. "Not German either." The Beatles Magical Mystery Tour's German pressing is the best. For sound quality, do not even consider any other Magical Mystery Tour pressing.

Cool guy. Respect for his his system and his art. But I’m going to take a wild guess and say that as the owner of 50 copies of Master of Reality, he’s single 😂
@@erics.4113 I wasn’t implying otherwise. It was basically a joke to say the average woman (or man for that matter) isn’t drawn to someone, even a man’s man, with 50 of the same sabbath albums. But I can see, given my need to explain this fact, that the joke has fallen flat and/or this is a somewhat humorless group.
Steve you and I both know that McIntosh has never been the high end and when Marantz was around it nailing in Mac max got big meters but it’s not and now it’s Chinese Taiwanese it’s not original Mac Mac in my eyes and I’m 78 years old I work with so I’m around so I mentioned that before the US 13 year old kid I’ve helped create ESS blah blah blah blah blah but don’t put mackintosh to for a pure high end audio file it doesn’t rank.

Exactly. Go with the stamper known for the best sound quality, and that increases your odds on landing a great sounding pressing.
If you go with some other stamper, then your chances of landing a gem are zero.

You have the right one. Treasure it. It is highly sought after by people that know about it. Even if you had $10 grand to spend on one, you simply cannot go on to Amazon and order one. Keep it safe.

I did not know that.
"Not German either."
The Beatles Magical Mystery Tour's German pressing is the best. For sound quality, do not even consider any other Magical Mystery Tour pressing.
Awww no viewer system of the day. Maybe you could kick off viewer system for the NIGHT and I could make an appearance. Bless stay safe

Thanks, but Noah's is the Viewer System of the Day!
Not a stereo type audiophile.
Wonder if Americans know what "knob feel" means on the other side of the Atlantic?! 😅😅
Cool guy. Respect for his his system and his art. But I’m going to take a wild guess and say that as the owner of 50 copies of Master of Reality, he’s single 😂
No he's not.
He mentioned a wife and kids in the video
Nah that's a man's man. You don't go that deep in sabbath and not have some swagger
@@edd2771 I was continuing the joke with a counter-joke to add to your original joke.
We just don't have good joke synergy I suppose
suffering snakes!--------there is no cd player in this system!
Steve. You need to tell him to stop putting his records in PVC jackets.
I use polypropylene sleeves. The ones in pvc were new acquisitions. What do you use?

Steve you and I both know that McIntosh has never been the high end and when Marantz was around it nailing in Mac max got big meters but it’s not and now it’s Chinese Taiwanese it’s not original Mac Mac in my eyes and I’m 78 years old I work with so I’m around so I mentioned that before the US 13 year old kid I’ve helped create ESS blah blah blah blah blah but don’t put mackintosh to for a pure high end audio file it doesn’t rank. You and I both know that be truthful. With these hi-fi guys mid thigh thinking high-end wrong wrong wrong
