    I am hunting one down for a good price as I played one in junior high school (many) years ago and LOVED it. This is a killer snare drum.

    I picked up a used acrolite in a local music store 8 years ago. I had no idea what this snare was, It just felt right for a low pitch secondary snare and was super cheap. Little did I know that I would eventually fall in love with this snare. I love practicing, rehearsing, recording and playing live gigs with it. Rimshots have the perfect amount of crack, no more no less. Hitting the drum in the center generates a sound that is expressive yet easy to control. It's a snare that always lets me play what I actually mean to play.

    I have one from the 70s and one from the 80s. Love them both. My two favorite of the twelve snares I own.

    Having owned several Acrolites I personally think the 90s/00s Blacrolites are the best sounding iteration. However they all sound great.

    Interesting, my later, maybe 90s Blackrolite is not nearly so dry. Why would the 8 lug version (Acro) be dryer than the 10 lug version (Supra)? Some kinda black magic going on. Thanks for the great vid, lots of good tunings to try and fantastic playing!

    • @SimonSpringerMusic
      @SimonSpringerMusic  8 місяців тому

      Thanks, Jeremy 🙏. Well, I can't answer that exactly. Every drum is different. And the recording and the room it's recorded in adds to that. Maybe side by side there would be less of a difference, maybe even more...

    • @SimonSpringerMusic
      @SimonSpringerMusic  8 місяців тому

      On second reading I don't really understand your question. So your Blackrolite is not so dry? But that is too an Acro, not a Supra. The Acro is ALWAYS dryer than a Supra. Supras are more open, more high fidelity...

    • @jeremyschneider9531
      @jeremyschneider9531 8 місяців тому

      Hi Simon. More of a rhetorical question. I've heard this before, that Acro's are dryer than Supra's. I don't have a Supra myself. I think my Acro is less dry than yours, but yeah that could be the room and recording.
      I find it strange though. In general, when folks talk about 8 vs 10 lug snares, some say 8's tend to be more open at lower to mid tunings because there is less hardware mass on the drum, similar to the thinking on lighter /thinner hoops. The Acro /Supra seem to defy this logic.

    • @SimonSpringerMusic
      @SimonSpringerMusic  8 місяців тому +1

      @@jeremyschneider9531 That is very true, less lugs make the drum more open. So a Acro with 10 lugs would be even dryer, a supra with 8 lugs even more open. But this is just the lugs. You can't compare a Supra to an Acro, as it is a completely different shell. The Acro is brushed alu, which makes it very dry. The supra is chrome plated, which makes it more brilliant sounding.

  • @samumutka9236
    @samumutka9236 Рік тому +2

    The only differences in modern acro and vintage is that modern acro has 10 lugs and old has 8. Also modern acros have much better throw off

    Beautiful drums.. in my opinion the vintages sound better, also the 60's has more brightness of sound comparison with the 70/80. Could you do a video of 70 Ludwig Black Beauty vs modern one ? Nice video your techniques are impressive as well your contents
