    It's very interesting. I wouldn't have chosen these exact colours but I love your results. + I see a bit of the bird's tail is missing (mostly ruffled feathers near the wings and above the tail) and you've decided to remove it which is certainly very clever and makes me think ;)

    What stands out to me after binge watching your tutorials is how you take care of what you have.

      @@EmmaColbertArt thank you Emma, i'll have a look.
      Your collection and pastelmat has just arrived and I'm hooked. They go on like butter and the colours are so beautiful, I have everything I need for now to create so many beautiful creatures even my doggies favourite toy although I will buy a Red 15 for his favourite blanket. As I was swatching colours I was already taking note of the possibilities for each colour and you have provided everything I need for all the creatures I am inspired to paint. This is a very well thought out set every colour is the star of the show and the supporting colours make the bright colours sing. thank you. And I am so glad I have finally tried a surface that holds onto the pastel. My old Rowney set from over 20 years ago finally behaved well, all these years I thought pastels were just not for me. Thank you so much for inspiring me to give them one more chance. I feel so comfortable working with them.

    I really admire your work, and you produce really informative videos. For a total beginner like me, your advice is invaluable. You give me confidence to really give pastels a go. I'm planning on doing a large commission for my father soon. So I will watching your videos a lot more. Thanks Emma!

    Emma, what a wonderful explanation and such a beautiful painting! I do not have the pastel selection you do, maybe one day! I often wonder what colors or sticks need to be bought before have a selection to select from? Other than your sets from Unison can you take time and educate us as to what colors are good fill in colors we should consider purchasing? Some Unison names or numbers would be great too! Thanks for sharing this amazing video and giving your viewers a leg up in this truly unique painting medium!

      That's something I happen to be working on right now. Hoping there will be a set that is just for adding onto the Animal set. I'll definitely tell more soon!

    Big thanks for this video. Do you use carbothello pencils?

    • @EmmaColbertArt
      @EmmaColbertArt  2 роки тому +1

      Yes I have a few of those. They're very nice, quite soft in terms of most pastel pencils so they put down a good amount of pigment. Faber Castells are a bit harder but I like them too.

    I see a lot of green tones in the photo reference Emma? (-: Marion

    • @EmmaColbertArt
      @EmmaColbertArt  2 роки тому +1

      That's great, there really are some and blues too. It's at that point with colour that we can create a style by either choosing to paint those tones subtly and naturally, or by heightening the colours and making it more expressive and colourful. Colour is individual and instinctual to each artist, but it's useful to know a little bit of theory to help.

    Hi, I signed up for your Patreon level 3, it always brings me back here to UA-cam though and I was wondering then what I paid for because I can't see any tutorial videos that I'm interested in,

    • @EmmaColbertArt
      @EmmaColbertArt  5 місяців тому

      Hi Monica, there are some different rewards available on level 3 and I've just sent you a message via Patreon with links to help you locate the other rewards. Some of the videos over the years on that level were released to UA-cam as part of my 'How To' series. The patrons received them first, and later they came out on UA-cam. So that's why most of that particular series is here. Let me know if you receive my message on Patreon and I hope the links help you to locate the rest of the content on your level.

    How do store your finished work?

    • @EmmaColbertArt
      @EmmaColbertArt  2 роки тому

      If not framing a work then I might put it between sheets of paper or glassine and store them either flat or in folders standing upright. Most of my work gets framed though. Some demo pieces I have are on my wall just mounted and no glass. It's fine for my studio wall temporarily but you want to try and frame them or keep them covered over.
