I don’t care for Nickleback just because I don’t care for that style of music in general. But I think a lot of people are incapable of thinking for themselves and just follow whatever the popular opinion is. So they hate Nickleback only because it was popular to hate Nickleback.
I 100% agree with this. I know I was one of them people who jumped on the “fuck nickelback” train but then I was like…. Wait why do i not like nickelback? They write genuinely good music even if it’s not my personal taste and the production is REALLY good.

Good band but I truly see where the hate comes from even if it’s possibly undeserved.
They became intentionally extremely formulaic and essentially rock pop and their first album didn’t really start out this way.
I legit didn't know Nickleback was "hated" until like few years ago. My exgf used to listen to them a lot, so i know few songs and occasionally played those few on guitar on her request but i don't get the hate, sure they aren't anywhere close to my taste but it's not exactly bad stuff.

Why is Nickeback hated? Easy...jealousy! Almost every band wants money, fame, mass appeal, etc. Sadly, most don't ever realize their dreams. Nickelback found a way to bring rock n' roll to the mainstream masses. They provided straight-forward rock songs that, for the most part, you could listen to with your parents. People called them sell-outs, said they weren't "edgy" enough. Well, maybe so. But, after selling over 50 million albums, worldwide. I believe Nickelback is getting the last laugh. Great reaction brother!

Right? There's nothing wrong with making simple, radio-friendly songs. Much to the contrary, they're easy to digest, quick to addict, and for the most part very enjoyable listens.

I think a lot of the hate for Nickelback is due to the fact that their music was seriously overplayed. It was especially bad in Canada, both because they're from here, and also because there are government regulations (CanCon) saying a certain amount of radio programming had to be Canadian content. So every radio station just filled their entire quota for Canadian content with Nickelback meaning we were stuck hearing one of their songs every 15-30 minutes. That went on for years.
So in a sense it wasn't entirely their fault. But they didn't do themselves any favours in some ways. A lot of their songs sound very similar, which didn't help. Also they started a record label and signed a handful of other bands that sounded almost exactly like them, further saturating that sound.
They're not a horrible band though. I enjoy some of their earlier stuff.
Mike Portnoy on drums is the only time I will listen to Nickelback.
Animals is a banger man. Remember seeing some AOL live session back in the day and sounded massive. So I (as a guitar noob) also learned on guitar asap.

6:33 As far as I know, this is due to the sabotage of some editors from major music magazines: Many of them believe that they control trends and have the power to "create" legends and then "ruin" them when the right time comes. Some of them decided that Nickelback had become unreasonably big and started a campaign to discredit them. And most ordinary people, as in the case of politics, are not able to notice when the media is manipulating them and often, not quite consciously, join various "hate campaigns".

Every creator I’ve watched react to this asks the same question: “Why is Nickelback hated?” The “hatred” has metamorphosized or become mythical at this point because the reason they’re hated is actually because people feel they sold out to radio rock after being post-grunge/alternative with their first two albums.
Over time, somehow, that hatred just evolved into people not liking them or thinking their music is crap without any further context than that one friend they have saying “Ah, Nickelback SUCKS.”
Nickelback for me is just like AC/DC; so repetitive and simple that I get bored with it in seconds. This is Mike's superpower(one of them), the ability to hear it once and have it down. Just a tiny bit of creativity from Mike and the song is improved by 1000%

Personal thoughts on the Nickleback hate. Most people hate them as a joke.
Most who play music themselves dislike them because we know they are capable of better. Nickleback knows a ruin of metal guys...even do covers of stuff like Metallica, so we know they're capable of playing more interesting music, but they write cookie cutter radio pop. They could easily make find more complex, while retaining their radio friendly feel, but they don't.
Its kinda like when, as a parent, you watch your kid show tons of potential, but don't even attempt to use it.
Portnoy's double kick in the chorus shows how cool that song could have been, but they didn't go that route.
