Bro...I'm 62. I've been playing drums since I'm 9 with very few days off. I consider myself a very good drummer. This man is just on another level, and even scarier...he's nowhere near his headroom. It's not just chops. His musicality is unbelievable. He plays so over the top , but never drowns out the song with stupid shit.
I think he just has such an expansive view of what might be possible with drums. He couples that willingness to go outside the box with just a relentless work ethic and the results are just amazing.
It's the weed. It sounds like I'm joking, but I'm not. Check out what the human endocannabinoid system does (lots of things, but two of them are to slow down neuron signals, perhaps providing more detail to perceptual input, and in habit forming).
I should clarify that it's not just the weed. It's a little bit of weed and a lot of very directed practice (8 hours per day apparently). And I think you have to spend at least some time every day doing the hard stuff that no one wants to do. And have fun! I've seen a similar pattern with other people who are amazing at what they do too (like Harry Mack).
As a drummer myself, you cant help but laugh at times because of the sheer technique and abilities of EL. Its like watching Dimash sing. Hes on such a higher level than everyone else, you just cant help but laugh.
It's literally practice and dedication. Yeah he got talent but have you seen his progress video? That's just 8-12+ hrs a day practice getting small gains each day and he will tell you that. In high-school I practiced guitar 8 hours every night after school (20 yrs ago lol) but that paid off maaaaasssively. You can do it too 💪
Don't. There's always somebody "better" The truck is to find out where your groove is, and play to that. Play to your strengths, not somebody else's. I play bass. I always wanted to be like Geddy. .But I'm not not him. But I get close :)
Sometimes someone comes along in life, whether it’s sport or music etc, who is just unquestionably on a completely different stratosphere to the next best. This guy is he.
Literally was thinking the same thing when watching this. Sometimes, people come along that can do things that can't even be comprehended. Dude is special!
"Finally, a beat I can do....nevermind!" 🤣🤣🤣 He's just on another level. You're the first of dozens of reactions I've watched of this song that really noticed the swap to two sticks in the right. Great reaction!
Yes! not gonna lie.. he is the first of a couple reactions that I've watched who actually even noticed the sticks in his belt line, let alone they were going to be used!! His reactions to EVERYTHING that was happening right infront of him made me laugh/cry out loud! 😂😂😂😂❤❤❤❤
By far the best reaction of this video I’ve seen so far and I’ve literally seen dozens of reviews from dozens of different drummers your legitimate concerns of inadequacy is exactly how all of us drummers feel at the same time our absolute respect and amazement at his pure genius
This amazing song is the point where I´m in shock. The moment that EES use two sticks in one hand, and in the same time continue the rhythm with the other hand, AND IN THE SAME TIME, he changes between single-dual pedal with another structure... it´s insane. Specially when everything sounds smooth, clear and continuos, without loose the tempo. The totally independance of his arms and legs is incredible. Like you, i don´t have words for describe this guy. No fucking words. Respect, that´s all I can say. A monster.
The man starts out with 8ths played over 4/4... Moves to 8/4 with 32nd triplets within the 4/4... During the bridge it's 16/4 but when he flips the stick from his belt it moves 32... This is a man who knows that every POP song written with a Lynn drum machine would have been served better by a real drummer
And to make it even more incredible, he is a very humble man. He doesn't hold himself in high esteem like you would think. He's always giving other musicians props. One drummer he fawns over is Eloy Grande'...Eloy is bonkers as well, but Estepario consistently makes your brain scribble with seemingly effortless patterns, times, grooves, and on and on and....He also encourages everyone to push themselves to be better through practice practice practice..!! We're all extremely blessed to get to consume such brilliance..!! But that's just me talk'n...
You can always tell who is a real player and who isn't based on how broken their brain gets watching Estepario. It is one thing to recognize what he does, but another thing entirely to KNOW what he is doing while understanding how difficult it really is.
As a non-drummer myself, I never expected to find myself consuming so much drumming content. ES is simply mesmerizing to watch, and an inspiration to anyone who is striving to achieve greatness in their respective craft.
BRO, you're the FIRST reactor that I've EVER seen pick up on that stick thing first time through. And for any/all who missed it, he does it again at 9:05. Good n you for being sharp!
I'm not a musician, I'm a designer, and seeing this level of innovation is awe-inspiring. Please don't get jealous or inadequate. This guys life story -- says it all.
I absolutely love when real drummers react to this... past all the flash and bang they "know" how hard it is to do one of these things perfectly whilst maintaining rock solid back-beats clean as a whistle but then let's just for fun do 4 at once... and make the song sooo much better as a result. His limb independence is staggering to watch but my favourite thing about Jorge is his insane orchestration and musicianship. Love your reactions...
I've watched a few reactions of his drumming and you literally did not miss a thing. Clearly a very switched on drummer, and a pleasure to see your reaction to everything.
Probably my favorite cover of his so far. I've showed several people this video to blow them away, but none of them reacted the way you did. I wished they had, I guess they just didn't fully understand the complexities of his cover. Glad to see someone actually freaking out about every single note this guy made in this cover.
Been watching his cover of Knights of Cydonia by Muse. That ostinado between his hi-hat/left foot bass drum & right foot bass is insanely hard to keep as perfect as he does while letting his hands go free. Guy is a freak but he puts the time in.
I just cannot believe the fact that there are haters out there that don’t like his flawless technique. It’s not just his covers to Blinding Lights or Godzilla, every song from Avenged Sevenfold to ZZ Top all now have a unique eclectic sound to it that makes you want to hear it again and again, heck! He even took the Super Mario Brothers theme song to a whole different level.
I love his technique, he's amazing. Doesn't make it more pleasing to listen to, it's like listening to really complex programmed drums to me personally. It's all taste, doesn't mean I'm right and someone else is wrong. Other people might see it totally differently than me and that's ok. I'm certainly not a "hater" of him.
😊 probably more frustration, EL just makes anything awesome, he has the ability to go next lvl on most stuff, just as you think you've seen it all he blows your mind, I've cried from joy at some of his stuff, check his vs Robot vid, fkn terminator😂

Thank you for your profound and interesting break down and commentary! Your style of drumming reactions elevate from many other's, so keep it going! 😊 I'd recommend watching El Estepario's cover of Eminem's Godzilla next. It's really otherworldly. 😅
As someone who’s never played drums, I had to find a drummer reacting to this guy to make sure I wasn’t crazy for thinking this guy is some kind of Mozart type individual with the sticks. Thank you for confirming my suspicions
I love El Estepario and have watched so many reactions. This is my favorite. Your respect for his talent was beautiful, but you had the best quote ever. "A beat that I can play. Oh, never mind.". 😂😂😂
Thanks for recognizing the practice time; Este, has another video where he talks about that specifically. Stating that everyone can do it “if they put in the work”, and he obviously has, and you recognized it, and I appreciate you saying that. I’m a program drummer myself and appreciate the grind, because it’s all in the details. Thank you Sir 👍
Absolutely! The session drumming/music studio lifestyle is all about the little things. I miss it, but I also don’t. But I love using my experience to educate people who might be interested!
I played drums for a solid two years so I'm still an amateur at best. I've always been a fan of great drumming. This is on a different planet. It's going to revolutionize music in the future.
Good on you for mentioning the practice. Estapario stands behind his skill being ENTIRELY a product of insane dedication and practice, and doesn't throw any of it up to raw talent. He is right, so i appreciate you highlighting that so that maybe more people will take up drumming, it's such a fantastic thing.
Go back and watch again and you'll notice a few awesome cymbal catches thrown in there too. I love that he uses double base roll to fill while he's tossing and catching his stick before the chorus so that there's no empty space. It's just so smooth.
So good listening to actual factual information, 4 note, sixteens etc too many people react without realising how hard it is to do. Nice commentary 👏🏻👏🏻
I really enjoyed your review. It's nice when a person can have mad respect and be blown away by another having the same vocation. Kudos and much respect to you as well!
I watch every reaction video and every single person pauses at exactly the same place with their mouth wide open. Yes. This is how I felt when I discovered him today.
You gave an impossible task. I’ve been playing 22 years. I can say he is the best. Better than the greats. Better than buddy rich Neil or even Danny Carey. And that’s saying a lot.
Portnoy is a huge influence for El Estepario. What's great is that El Estepario is now getting to showcase more of his own work, which is absolutely incredible.

The rim shot part when he hits the 2 rims in 3 different spots. Dude the consistensy is un fuckin belivable. The first part was spot on like the secound. He hits shit in the same exsact spot over and over like a machine. He aint human. The accurecy is just insane.
This is *super* tasteful imho. Crazy techniques & precision under his belt, yes.... but he's come up with such a *crisp* groove for this. What's not to love?! :)
Seems like the equivalent of a gamer watching pros and realizing the chasm between them: are we even playing the same game? Your reaction makes me appreciate the craziness even more (first time I was half listening, half watching and didn't realize the dual drumsticks 🔥)
I've been a drummer since 1986 and watched some of the BEST in the world play themselves into a sweaty puddle of amazing hundreds of time. Nevertheless, I've yet to see someone else play the way El Estepario does - he is an absolute magician from that stool.
HAHAHAHA!! YOU'RE thee first reactipn to this song that is so 'Blinded by the Light'.. you make this for GREAT contect!! I am a drummer myself... but you're Still making me laugh/cry through this whole video.. I laugh cause you (and i) KNOW what he's doing...but CANNOT belive what hes doing... THIS IS HILAROUS TO WATCH!!❤😂❤😂❤
6:52 “I never thought to do something like that.” That’s honestly what separates the geniuses from the rest of us. Sometimes it’s just the way that person sees things, while most often it’s a result of insanely deep immersion into the craft.
The first drummer I ever saw doing the two sticks in one hand thing on the hi-hat was Darren King from Mute Math, still I can guarantee even Darren will be floored with Estepario's skill.
“… it’s a beat that I can play!… Never mind!” LOL That’s how I feel about nearly every one of his vids. He’s awesome to watch, just something my physical limitations won’t allow me to reach.
It's interesting you talk about his "talent", because EES himself said he is not "talented at all". He said he has just been practicing 8 hours a day, everyday, so it is hardwork instead. He also clarified most people think about doing that too, but at the end of day just a few actually do it and he's the result of that amount of time spent on drumming. Loved your reaction and break down, you have a new sub!~ PS: Completely off-topic, you remind me of an anime reaction channel (at least back in the day) i followed years ago with my previous account on his Steins;Gate reactions, it had the name "Garrett Crespo" on it, if i recall correctly. Is that you? I'm so sorry for bringing this up, but because i'm dumb AF, my head is making me think i'm hallucinating or something lol
I definitely believe that there's natural talent and acquired talent. Practicing 8 hours a day is definitely acquired talent and his playing style shows it! Also, yes. That was me. The Garrett Crespo channel is now a tech review channel and I've moved to doing music reactions over here. No more anime reactions though. Thanks for subbing over here too though! 😁
Hello, you surrely posted the most accurate react vid about this El Esptepario Siberiano vid. This guy is on a level, after a lot of practice and with a bit of talent, which human drummers can't achieve.
One of the few occasions where El looks actually exhausted when done and good job. You are one of the few that react that noticed the double sticks because most concentrate on feet only and completely miss the best part. Gravity blasts and double stick hi-hat.
This guy makes all of us look like idiots on drums hes the drummer of the millenium Love him people theres no one like him enjoy it keep playing dont give up
El Estepario Siberiano should do reaction videos of of him watching other drummers' reaction videos. Just to rub salt into wounded egos and casually crush some dreams.
eating popcorn and watching drummers die inside while reacting to this guy is my new favorite thing
That, and watching voice coaches and professional singers lose their minds over Dimash. I can't ever imagine even pretending to anywhere near either of these guys in *any* universe. #bringsmorepopcorn

This cat is reinventing the drum kit and how it's used. Just glad I'm around to watch it.
Bro!!! Love the commentary you do, funny and informative.
Watching people react to this I'm reminded of the first time I heard Rush and realised more could be done as a band than I had ever thought.
Loads of headroom. Tons. Cargo ship space. What makes this fun to watch are the reactions as we all try to follow along.
I'm a no drum person at all and can easily tell he's one of a kind. It's mesmerizimg to watch Esterpario Siberian playing. Pure joy!🙌
6:52 “I never thought to do something like that.” That’s honestly what separates the geniuses from the rest of us. Sometimes it’s just the way that person sees things, while most often it’s a result of insanely deep immersion into the craft.
glad to see you know understand why we suggested watching this next, he is crazy
The first drummer I ever saw doing the two sticks in one hand thing on the hi-hat was Darren King from Mute Math, still I can guarantee even Darren will be floored with Estepario's skill.
“… it’s a beat that I can play!… Never mind!” LOL
That’s how I feel about nearly every one of his vids. He’s awesome to watch, just something my physical limitations won’t allow me to reach.
This drummer has literally reinvented the way to play drums. This type of musical brain does not come around often. Genius
This drummer timing is great, his switches, transitions, footwork, its All FUCKING ELITE
great reaction video, I'm as amazed by EES's playing as you are :D
I know nothing about drumming but every time i see this guy i have to watch the whole video.
Loved your reaction and break down, you have a new sub!~
PS: Completely off-topic, you remind me of an anime reaction channel (at least back in the day) i followed years ago with my previous account on his Steins;Gate reactions, it had the name "Garrett Crespo" on it, if i recall correctly.
He made me like a song i really wouldn’t care for!!
Plus in addition to the gravity blast with his right hand he's doing a short one with his left hand at the same time! Insanity!!
Thanks for the explanation on the 16th’s etc. great reaction and break down.
Is a masterpiece ❤ love it 😂amazing!! Super LIKE 👍
at 10.27 .. that rrlrrl with the 16th kicks going is so awesome .. the moment is gone before you even realized it happened
This guy has to be one of the top 5 drummers on the planet.
He is on a truly another level ...it is called an octopus ! And done right.!❤😂❤
This guy makes all of us look like idiots on drums hes the drummer of the millenium
Love him people theres no one like him enjoy it keep playing dont give up
Just found you man. I’m so glad I did. Awesome. You have the same kind of reactions I do. A mix of disbelief and rational thinking
Love this reaction. Great playing, but your appreciation is refreshing.
"I feel so inadequate as a drummer. I need to practice more."
My thoughts exactly EVERY SINGLE TIME I hit play on any of this guy's videos.
The stick trick to get the 3rd stick is the slickest move on there.
The fact that he has to trigger the double pedal before he uses it each time is crazy and the limb independency to use it is just wild
El Estepario Siberiano should do reaction videos of of him watching other drummers' reaction videos. Just to rub salt into wounded egos and casually crush some dreams.
This guy is on a whole new level of drumming.
Best break down of everyone. You caught it all! Roger B
'Wow its a beat I can play... nevermind' lmao
there is no name for this guy, awesome of another world
