    I spend 10 days alone with 10 items in a backpack, I live/camp on an Island, have a canoe to travel in search of food.
    I live on fish and whatever small reserves I had.
    I encounter Eagles, loons, and beaver, see sign of Black Bear, Moose, and many other animals
    I have epic sunsets, strong camp vibes, and lots of time to think and film.
    I build a semi permanent shelter, chair, tripod, carve a spoon, and have endless camp chores.
    This is the second video in a mini series, I have a ton of footage.
    The next video in the series will be out soon.
    I hope you all enjoy 10 Days, 10 Items ; Alone on an Island in the Canadian Wilderness.

    So a few months ago I got into bushcraft and survival outdoors, but rewind i grew up in the city and followed the wrong path with the wrong people so the next 10 to 15 years i was in and out of jail or on the run. Almost ending up in prison, I needed a change and then my step father passed, he was into the outdoors big time. This pushed me to go out to the woods and see what I could do. I started watching your channel, Bearded Woodsman and many more. So I started my life changing path and started a youtube channel. It has had a huge positive impact in my life, I just had a daughter i'm in college and my channels doing good, So what i'm getting to is that you have helped me transform my thoughts and actions, So thank you for all you have done without knowing it, I have seen and been thru things people 3 times my age, so to get out and find inner peace has helped me as a person, your a great guy and thanks again, stop by my channel and maybe say Hi, or something it would mean a lot, take care my friend.

    FISHING LESSON: You need some help on this, After you know you have a fish on and you set the hook by giving a sharp tug on the line. You do not have any slack in the line, you reel it in a little faster than the fish can swim. The closer it gets to the boat the more you hold the tip of the pole up. When you get it to the boat the tip should be straight up in the air. Keep reeling it in. It should come up out of the water. Keep holding on to the pole by the handle. Do not let go of the handel. Let the fish drop into the bottom of the boat. Now set down the pole. You can pick up the fish but do not hold it so it might jump back in the water. Have a good grasp on the fish. ENJOY

    • @carterhaight6677
      @carterhaight6677 4 роки тому +2

      Dan Kramer he’s not bass fishing it’s pike and walleye they have very sharp teeth and jaws witch can pull the hook right out of there mouths and could also break weak tackle and line, I’ve fished pike in Canada all my life you gotta get them eat and hook themselves

    • @alanleukuma2699
      @alanleukuma2699 4 роки тому

      His main issue is setting the hook. He also reels in too fast so the fish isn't tired out at all, and he reels it in to much so when there isn't slack and the fish is right next to the canoe full of energy it thrashes around until it comes off because there isn't slack. Love the videos though, keep it up!

    I'm pretty late to the party, but oh well. I've been so bogged down in life, so busy that I can't find the time to go to the woods. You and Michael McQuinton (hoped I spelled that right) have really made me want to get back out. Hunting, fishing and camping. Going on a trip in a month with the family out into the mountains, then I'm planning a solo outing for multiple days later on during deer season. i'm incredibly excited to get the chance to get back into the woods once more.
    Thank you, Joe, for letting me rekindle my enjoyment of the outdoors through your videos. I appreciate every minute of the footage you give us.

      Oliver Moores no but he doesn’t do well in the hotter weather since he’s older and has the thick coat. We’ see more once the weather cools in his area probably.

    • @ghostdtx
      @ghostdtx 6 років тому +37

      Has nothing to do with that.. He took two plane rides.. A car ride.. An atv ride... And a canoe to get to his spot.. Can't take the dog for all of that there and then back again

    • @jbell2753
      @jbell2753 6 років тому +12

      ghostdtx yeah it has to do with it. He even says it in his videos. Scouts 10 years old and has a double thick coat. He doesn’t do well in hot weather. In this particular trip you’re right the trip time is why he wasn’t there, but as a whole Scout isn’t going to be in many summer time videos.

    • @ghostdtx

      @@jbell2753 agree. But I had a husky and she hated Dallas. In this trip however had nothing to do with it just the logistics

      My thoughts exactly. I was thinking about Les Stroud while Joe was cooking the fish on fire. Even for Les it wasn't easy to catch a fish for days. And then finally he caught 4 fishes in a row. That episode was epic.

    I enjoyed the video. I was raised in Alaska, guided hunters in the
    Bitter root, and spent countless hours alone in the wilderness. Tip,
    ALWAYS get a fire going BEFORE anything else. Weather can change, and in
    the event of an injury its a life saver. Witha busted wing it's nice to
    have a fire going and wood ready

    You should have brought some small animal traps with you to supplement your fishing. Rabbit is good as long as you have other fatty meat with it. Do you ever take a firearm with you, for example, in case of bears? I absolutely love that shelter. What an awesome video. It's hard to believe the life you're living while making this video was the everyday life of ancient man day i and day out. What a life!

    You can cool water down by having two cups (cold metal ideally, i.e. thermal conductivity). Just slowly pour into one, pour into second, cool down first one in the cold river water (just outside of the cup), pour into first one, cool down second one (outside), repeat until water is cool. Usually takes up to ten pours to cool it really quick. It cools about 10% per pour (10°C being first pour). That's why it is good to have at least two cups (can be inside each other for the travels). No need to drink hot water ;)

    • @bena3341
      @bena3341 4 роки тому +1

      Or having a nalgene bottle would be smart. Then you can boil 1 litre and pour it right in. Always do it right before bed so by morning it is cool and drink it all before going out for the day. Then boil a second litre and have that cooling as the day goes on. I am not sure why water storage wasn't one of his 10 items considering it is one of the most important (if not most important) survival things.

    I have a very robust 3 season tent that makes a passable 4 season tent, but you should have seen this one time in the northern Mountains of Arizona. I was out there for a month in the winter, supplementing my supplies hunting small game.
    Snow kept coming, really straining my tent. I had brought a good length of paracord, but ran across an oooooooold homestead. Lo and behold I found great amounts of barbed wire, so I gathered that and used it to help construct a log, pine bough, and debris shelter over my tent.
    I built it tall enough for me to stand by the entrance of my tent and it sloped to the rear. BINGO! No more snow load, or wind on my tent.
    it had the added benefit of holding in SO much warmth, especially when I would build a small fire inside. I have always been a small fire kind of guy anyway.
    That was in 2010, I think,before I ever heard of bushcraft. We used to just call it woodsmanship. Just me, my dog, a . 22, and gear that kept crapping put on me.
    My water filter clogged and no amount of field cleaning helped. My water sources were all very poor. I ended up straining water through a cotton cravat into my Jetboil and boiling my water that way. It was a slow way to get safe water, because I drink a LOT of water. Then I found a soda can and used that too.
    It was a fantastic trip and really showed me where my gear and gear mindset were lacking.

    When you mount your GoPro to the canoe, try some rubber foam maybe between the canoe and the tripod or under the base of the camera. It should possibly help minimize the sound transfering from the canoe.
