And I have to say your passion and the way you enjoy what you love is contagious with all the tips and tricks we have all learnt from you over this time mate just want to say how much we appreciate you and will always enjoy every moment 🎣❤️ absolute legend
Been a fan for many years and great to see your passion fir fishing hasn't wained. I like the respect with which you treat your catch. Keep hooking them!
Had a wonderful vicarious pleasure in watching this Steve and you were the who really instigated soft plastics for bream and other species. Had great sessions myself, esp with whiting on bloodworms. This was amazing to watch. How lucky we are to have these sensational sportfish.
That was an epic session of bream fishing, thanks for taking us along for the ride. Loved the footage and the narrative that is a video I will watch over and over again. Thanks Starlo 💜🎣
I love the way that you explain your thought process and reasoning during this fishing video. This makes all the difference between an entertaining video and an entertaining and educational video. Very professional. Thanks.
Masterclass is a great name for this video. I could sit for hours watching Bream getting caught on lures. Trout is my No1 go to fishing Bream No2 i cant wait for trips to the East Coast of Tassie like Swansea and just spend day after day targeting Bream such a special fish. ATB Brad
Fantastic clip Steve. You can read all the books and magazines in the WORLD on fishing, but nothing beats watching an expert as they show you how its done 😊😊

Thats decided it. As soon as this storm has passed i'm putting the boat in and chasing a few sulky winter bream. Got my casting arm twitching Starlo, love your work.
Great session, great bit of story telling, reminds of why I used to love reading your articles of the 80's/90's over and over - a time when story telling was what made for a good read! More of this Steve - just fish and film whatever you're doing at the time, your channel like all the successful fisho channels, will grow in time by itself. That, I am sure of!
Framk Saunders - Steve helped me go from keen dangler to proficient angler through the article if FWF and Modern Fishing back in the day. Waaayyyyyy back now lol. I hate to think. My Baitcaster, still in use, which I got on the advice given in one of his articles is 30 this week, I am 52. That alone has made me a lifelong fan of Starlo, lol.
@@StarloGetsReel 🤣 Not old, mate. Just more experienced. It is my 52nd next Saturday, I feel it catching up myself lol. I am a person who never had idols or heroes. You and Buschy however filled the roles of Mentor and for that, you have my thanks. You guys, John Bethune, who I had the pleasure to meet at a casting clinic one year, John Turnbull who I knew at the ANU and taught me to fly fish for carp in Sullivan's creek, I still can't time a double haul for the life of me lol. Those guys were gentlemen. I hope to one day fish with you and have as much fun as I did with those legends.
Happy to shout you a beer anytime - Im just a little further up the coast - one day. Really enjoyed the video - nicely done, not to mention some nice fish.
Very nice work mate! I’m learning so much from you and enjoying the lush footage to boot. And yes the fish are beautiful animals. Interesting point that bream stay tight in the structure until the sun drops after which they venture a bit further out. Thanks muchly
There's definitely something to having that style of pedal on your kayak. I love the reverse on my Hobie but it's a pain in the arse switching from forward to reverse.
Never get tired of watching lovely Bream looks like I'm back to the tackle shop have you done any think on setting your drag properly if so where will I find it I find it very easy to follow your instructions thanks again.👍👍
@@StarloGetsReel Steve, watching this video and the one on Lake Macquarie surprised me. The systems seemed to be really healthy compared to about 20 years ago. Older, larger fish and more of them. Maybe those two great sessions were just an exception but It made me reflect on all of the work that everyone did to remove commercial fishing from so many of NSW estuaries, back then. Seems like it paid off :).
Glad you liked it. I tend not to specify particular waterways, especially small, pressure-sensitive ones. But these techniques are applicable anywhere bream live.
Thanks for the great feedback! Yes, the term "bream" (pronounced either 'brim' or 'breem') gets used for a wide range of deep-bodied fish all around the world. Our Aussie "bream" are in the same family as your saltwater sheepshead and porgy. Tight Lines... I'll check out your channel! 👍
5:20 - That terrible cast I was thinking, Oh, nice cast, he's fishing out wide to not disturb the fish in on the snags when you said "Bad cast " lol. I am pleased I was vindicated 2 cranks later.
I hands down love your video's Steve, especially Bream on Lures. Your manner is only rivalled by your skill. I was dumbfounded by that fish you hooked after the slightest of tap's on the slack line at pause. That was a cracking session and it's evident in the video how much you enjoyed it. I would love to know what knot you prefer for your mainline to trace connection ? I've double checked your content and only found knots for terminal tackle. Thanks for sharing this video 👍
Thanks so much, Ross! I'll be going into more detail in coming parts, but I'm a big fan of the FG knot for those connections... that said, I'll happily tie a Double Uni out on the water in the heat of battle! ;)
Thanks for the feedback Steve. Unfortunately I haven't been able to master the FG in light lines but the Double Uni, well I read about that in a particular book a few years back.......
Hey Starlo been loving the gets reel vids, what model poison ardena are you using in this video, I’m looking to buy my first high end rod and like the look of it, mainly used for throwing plastics. Cheers
Thanks! I’ve had a good run from the 8-carrier version of Shimano’s Kairiki braid. It doesn’t wear as well or last as long as PowerPro, but it’s thinner, more supple and better suited to “finesse” applications such as lure fishing for bream, trout, etc.
Great viewing Starlo, thank you. What is your view on using heavy leaders like 8-10lb and still getting bites? Or would you prefer to go as light as conditions and terrain allow for?
Thanks! I believe you’ll usually get more bites the lighter you go, but there’s no point going so light you start losing lots of fish. I regularly use 8, 10 and sometimes even 12 pound leaders on bream in really heavy country. I accept I’ll get a few less bites but I’d rather hook one and get it out than hook four and lose them all. 👍
I had a hobie outback and always got a few flatty or bream every session. Since going back to boats with electrics it's become so much harder. There's a lot to be said about kayak fishing. catch rates are almost 'easy' even.
Those were Decoy Nail Weightjigheads. Hard to find. But you can rig them snag-proof on a standard jig head, too. I show how in Part 2 of my Masterclass. Here: starlofishing.lpages.co/bream-masterclass-part-2/

@@michaelosullivan1248 sometimes. It can be harder to find them because they’re location isn’t dictated by tidal movement.
