I'm speechless this is happening in 2022, but then again plenty of flagrantly guilty men/women are walking the street just because of their wealth and connections. Pray for this man's release ASAP.

Humans have no incentive to change and won't change, and if anyone thinks they got what it takes to make a change, they better change their mind about that!

The legal system is so flawed, they know he is innocent, they say he is innocent, but they are too focused on these nonsensical laws to do what is right.

It's not the system. It's racist white cops trying to get as many black people in jail as possible so they literally say they have a crime on you. So give me information on another black person that you know and then they're really aggressive with it which then leads to the person in handcuffs literally making up a complete story that never even happened implicating some other person ie black person in a crime!

The system is designed purposefully to oppress, more so than it is just some byproduct of imperfection. They correct anything they truly want solutions to. They don't want to open the floodgates to give us what they would assess as too much freedom at once and grant us true equality.

The fact that you need a law to free INNOCENT individuals, or people that clearly didn’t have a fair trial, just shows how corrupt and uncaring the government is. Absolutely inhumane and despicable. I’d like to think other states are better, but I know plenty of stories of people who had to fight to be released even with undeniable proof they were not the perpetrator. You’re at the mercy of the state, courts, DA, judges etc.

I’m a small govt type person myself but it’s situations like this that the federal govt should be able to intervene in. The US justice Department should be able to take the state to federal court and if sufficient evidence is shown that a person is innocent a new trial should be immediately ordered or release the person. An innocent person in prison serves no benefit to anyone. The murder victims family has not received justice and it’s a true disservice to the wrongfully accused. That was a great statement he made about how the US would lecture and sanction other countries for the very same thing…

might you be willing to reach out to any of the people listed below? Your choice. To make things easier, we’ve included a few points for you to integrate into your message as you see fit. Of course, you don’t have to include all of them - but make sure you state that a judge found Chris to be innocent and he’s in prison now only because he isn’t on death row!
      We appreciate you so much.
      Love,
      Chris and Kira
      People to contact:
      · Contact the Missouri ACLU and ask them to advocate on Chris’ behalf.- L. Elaine Sutton - esutton@aclu-mo.org or fill out this form Email Contact Form or write to 906 Olive St., Suite 1130, St. Louis, MO 63101
      · Contact Geoff Martin, chair of the Kirkwood Human Rights Commission and ask him to advocate on Chris’ behalf at ghm1412016@gmail.com or Kirkwood Human Rights Commission, 139 S. Kirkwood Rd. Kirkwood, MO 63122.
      · Contact Steve Vockrodt, Investigative Editor for the NPR Midwest Newsroom, and ask him to look into Chris’ case at svockrodt@stlpr.org.

      · Contact Sara Just, PBS Newshour producer, and ask her to consider running Chris’ story at sjust@newshour.org
      · Contact Amna Naraz, PBS Newshour host, and ask her to cover Chris’ case and the rampant injustice in Missouri at anawaz@pbs.org
Points to make if you choose:
      · In 1990, at age 18, Christopher Dunn was accused of shooting 15-year-old Recco Rogers. Chris was convicted based solely on the testimony of two younger boys, 12 and 14, who identified him as the shooter. .
      · No physical evidence was presented in court. Gun powder residue testing was not conducted. There was no DNA, video footage, cell signal, or any other physical evidence. Chris asked for a polygraph, but one was not provided. No motive was established.
      · Chris' public defender did not present any evidence in his defense, though he had seven alibi witnesses and had been on the phone at the time of the crime
      · The jury deliberated for 42 minutes before returning a guilty verdict, and Chris was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole, plus 90 years.
      · The young boys, now men, have both recanted their testimony, explaining that they didn’t see who fired at them and hit their friend, but decided to say it was Chris because they didn’t like him.
      · Based on the recantations, and more witnesses and other newly discovered evidence of his innocence, Chris was granted an evidentiary hearing in 2018.
      · The hearing’s revelations included that the victim, his brother, and a couple of friends had severely beat a man the day before the crime. A couple of months later, the victim’s brother was also shot and killed. The possibility that both boys were killed in retaliation was never pursued.
      · 25th Circuit Judge Hickle deliberated for two years and three months after the hearing. In 2020, he issued an order stating that Chris had demonstrated his innocence with clear and convincing evidence, and NO JURY would convict him now - but the judge couldn’t release Chris because he wasn’t on death row.
      · The judge blamed the 2016 Lincoln v. Cassady case, which said that even if a person proves their innocence in court, they cannot go free unless they have a death sentence - or can prove a constitutional violation in addition to their innocence.
      · In 2006, Joe Amrine was freed from death row when he proved his innocence before the Missouri Supreme Court. The Amrine v. Roper case thus provided a path to freedom for people who prove their innocence.
      · In 2016, Rodney Lincoln brought his innocence case before the Western District Court of Appeals. Judge Cynthia L. Martin ruled that even though Rodney Lincoln had proved his innocence, he wasn’t on death row like Joe Amrine had been - so she didn’t have to release him. Judge Martin grossly misapplied the law. A proven innocent person should be freed regardless of their sentence!
      · Missouri is the ONLY state with this kind of law.
      · How is it that such a court precedent can exist in the United States of America, or anywhere?
      · This is insanity. How can innocence not matter? Does guilt matter? Do laws matter?
      · Two years have passed since the judge ruled Chris is innocent. Chris has had three heart attacks since the 2018 hearing, and his health has become fragile.
      · You may wish to mention that if people can concern themselves with Brittany Griner, why not Christopher Dunn, who is being held even after proving his innocence?
Separately, you may wish to contact Circuit Attorney Kimberly Gardner and ask her to use RSMo 547.031 to move forward in vacating Chris’ conviction or ordering a new trial at caocommunications@stlcao.org or 1114 Market St #401, St. Louis, MO 63101
Much love and appreciation from us.

The Missouri State Legislature should get its act together and legislate a remedy to this problem. It is shameful that the legislators, governor, and state attorney general failed to solve this problem years ago. Though law can present very complicated issues, rigorous analysis can lead to legitimate and workable solutions. To the Missouri State Legislature, governor, and attorney general: "Stop failing at a moral and ethical level. Demonstrate some integrity. Innocent individuals, justified by substantial evidence, should not remain imprisoned. Solve this problem." To the imprisoned persons' attorneys: "Carefully research federal substantive and procedural due process cases. Missouri's prohibition against release, despite a factual basis for vacating a judgment, implicates due process protections. Perhaps a federal lawsuit seeking habeas relief, a declaratory judgment, or injunctive relief may provide some relief."
