That's not a photograph at all, rather the wax figurines outside the White House Exhibit at the Lincoln Museum in Springfield Illinois.

Thanks for pointing that out. I admit I used some 'artistic license' on that one, as the scope of the video is 'photos and images'. The decision was made to include it to create drama between the Jefferson Davis inauguration photo followed by Lincoln with his family, to effectively set up the two leadership sides of the Civil War, in the hope that the combination of the two images sets up a narrative to the time period.

    corrections:
the sutton ribbon was not a true color photograph. panchromatic emulsions were unavailable at the time, ben becks website has more details.
many images displayed were digitally colorized over a century after they were taken, i can excuse the engravings because the viewers can tell that it was an artists interpretation, but adding these along with the failed sutton experiment could misinform viewers that color photos were of these. though du hauron did make experiments with color photography in the later half of the decade. and that image of the lincoln family is a modern wax sculpture exhibit in springfield illinois.

True, the Tartan ribbon was photographed in black and white, but three photos of it were taken, each with different color filters (red, green, and blue-violet), then developed on glass, and then projected onto a screen with 3 different projectors using the same filters used when photographed. When superimposed on the screen, they formed a full color image.
I was aware Abe Lincoln was never photographed with his family, or even with Mary Todd for that matter ... but the scope of my video - photos and images - allows me some creative license within my topic. And besides, its a REALLY COOL picture.

6:24 It looks like a kind of forerunner of a Lilienthal-type glider. Did it ever get off the ground?

Le Bris' aircraft, known as The Albatross, actually made a few test flights, including a 200 meter flight, but was soon damaged beyond repair after a crash in 1868. It stands as the first aircraft to be photographed.
