Wish I knew someone with it so they could do a closeup video for you! According to KLOV it looks like there are only a few people who own dedicated machines. A rare one for sure! Thanks! I've never actually played Granny and the Gators, but I have watched a few videos on it before. But you're right, I can see the similarities. Almost a bit like Toobin as well (minus the pinball part).
I have only seen one of these ever out in the wild. It was at a _then_ local grocery store and sat next to a Super Mario Bros., which got a ton more attention. Hard to know just how rare this game may actually be.
Same with me, I've only ever seen one Swimmer on location. My machine is serial number #60 (forgot to mention that in my video). There's a thread on KLOV that has been active for about 10 years with collectors reporting their highest and lowest serial numbers for games. The highest Swimmer serial number reported is #308. I wouldn't be surprised if they only made 500 uprights. I know some cocktail tables were made as well, but can't imagine very many at all. I'm not really sure, it's been forever since I have opened MAME. I used to play Swimmer on it before I got this machine, but I don't recall which version I was playing. I can't imagine there is any Swimmer PCB that would say Centuri on it, or have any difference from the Tehkan PCBs since it was made by Tehkan and then Centuri built the cabinets and did all the artwork and distributed the game.
@@cosmiccottagearcadeThe Swimmer that you have has the Centuri license displayed on the screen (“Centuri Inc. Licensed by Tehkan Ltd.”). AFAIK, none of MAME’s sets display the Centuri license, unless there’s a hidden dip switch setting. You may want to consider dumping the ROMs to the version you have.
@@cosmiccottagearcade I believe this version is undumped. If you have a proper EPROM programmer (probably not) you can preserve the contents and use the romident tool to compare and contrast

Very cool and rare game, the gameplay seems similar to Granny and The Gators where you trying to make it up a river to complete a level.

I remember playing this game a LOOONG time ago. But I usually ended up playing Naughty Boy, whch I also like playing it on MAME.

Is the Centuri licensed version available in MAME? If I can recall, the three available versions of Swimmer are the original Tehkan version.
