I remember that night! I was in Australia 2003 and was down and depressed. I was struggling to find work and my ex husband was on extra long hours at work and trips to the supermarket and meeting other women. I sat watching this, with tears my eyes, and goosebumps and hope in my heart that things were going to get better! His winning song was angels brought me here! Such a spiritual experience! Nameste 🙏🏻

The Voice 2021 brought me back here again after watching Guy sing a duet of this song with contestant, Julee-Anne Bell. What an awesome and nostalgic moment. Julie sung her verson beautifully and chose Guy as her mentor👍👏👏👏🌷💟🌷(I just spotted my own comment here from 12 years ago 🤯)

My god Guy is an incredible singer!
Back AGAIN after the voice 2019.
This is my favorite Idol moment ever - for so many reasons. Guy showed the world what he is made off. I cant imagine any other performer taking a such a tame song and making it his own. This guy brought Australia to its knees crying, because the song became HIS journey - He is the dude that climbed every mountain, he put up with people mocking his virginity and his religion and sent those accusations back to the pit where it came from. Total inspiration.

Watching Guys journey through Australian Idol gave me something to focus on when my daughter was being treated for cancer she was just 2 at the time. I followed Guy from his audition and remember being in the hospital next to my daughters bed on grand final night. I was watching it on the TV above my daughters bed the place was absolutely silent. And I had to restrain myself from yelling yes!!! When he won. It was a very happy moment. It really helped me cope.
My daughter is still in remission!

Guy wasn't meant to sing this song -- he and Shannon Noll chose the same song and one of them had to switch. Guy switched to this. And this is when everyone knew he would win.

This is the best version of this song I have ever heard. This guy is a real singer, with professional phrasing and improvisation. Absolutely thrilling. Blows the Dutchgirls away.

My husband and I sat enraptured as this song poured out of Guy. Suddenly, tears sprang to both our eyes and we had what felt like a "religious experience" - the way he sang it was deeply moving and it deserves a 5-star rating. Unforgettable!

are we reminisicing? We were in Broome, just finished a camel ride or something and whipped back to the airconditioning and Guy. Remember saying to my fella, "He's got it now!" That was just an amazing performance. I'd only seen his "Hit the Road Jack" and the other band (swing, here) otherwise, & thought = what on earth is this oh so professional doing in this competition thing? He should be at Las Vegas?!

I think this is the equal best version of this song ever - along with the original in the musical. It's sung with such genuine passion and understanding. Actually, I think this is one of the best live performances of any song, EVER.
That voice! Oh yes "TOUCHDOWN"!! This was the very first series in Aus and the contestants had no idea what to expect. It was the most real and honest from the artists and judges and audiences because they were writing the book for future reality TV singing shows in Australia. The "hype" on this clip wasn't hype - the judges and audience were genuinely blown out of the water by this performance. I remember watching & crying myself - still draws me in everytime I watch this performance.
Guy doesn't have the greatest range vocally, but he has an exceptional amount of soul in his songs that really tug at you and that is what can really take him far. =]

Wow! I was watching that night and have seen the video many times since ... but not for a long, long time. I got a brand new set of goosebumps! And people who don't see Guy live - imagine was he's like over 5 years later. He gets better and better every live appearance, so that'll give you some idea how good he is now.

won 2003, been recording but no contract before, won prize for his own song "No More" before Idol even came in & built his 1st studio, and how releasing his FIFTH studio album in Oct. '09, (already has 6 on iTunes) and those albums are totally AWESOME. So many fab. tracks that only his fans have heard! Amy Pearson should have released her duet with Guy (his own track) "We Both Know", Eran James has 1 of his tracks . Guy's music just outstanding, covering anything at all. I've even heard him Rap

But Guy is one of the most loved artists in Australia now and is about to tour with Steve Cropper and the MGs. guy is a musician first, which is why he re-arranged songs to suit how HE felt. see Memphis Medley, Always on My Mind, Taller Stronger Better & Elevator Love (just a few)

That last note he sang, "Til' you find your DREAM.....", you can just feel the electricity shoot through the audience. He has a unique and wonderful voice. And the ability to connect with an audience that few performers have. A wonderful performance.

what I like about this performance is that its obviously how he felt at the moment. Its why I love his live performances in his tours & gigs. You never quite know when that stunning moment might happen again, and they do happen so often. That's the xfactor alright, the 'something extra' that just happens, on and above the talent.
