I think that’s what Nick Kyrigos tries to subtly state in his interviews/comments. Also think Barty got paid to retire for Iga to be #1 but hey, like you said..just my opinion.

Coco played her as well as she ever has. She's still just 18 (turns 19 next month) and you could argue that Coco's best tennis is in front of her. This will be a match-up to watch in the future.
Coco played way better than i expected. Winning 6 games against current formed Iga is good achievement! No bagel or baguette for Iga for first time since Australian Open. But Iga again showed class over Coco - meeting her 6 times and to lead with 12-0 sets? Just wow!

She lost
Coco should be praised for the first set and for not allowing Swiatek to open her bakery... She played as an equal rival of Iga, bravely and at huge risk. Even her forehand was surprisingly good. After the first set, Iga unfortunately looked into her enchanted exercise book and after a while it was already 4:0 for the Pole. And practically game over ... But after this match, Coco will definitely be more confident, because it was the first match against Iga in a long time, in which she has nothing to reproach herself for...

I don't think it's a mental block. Iga just has a very easy time targeting the gauff forehand. Against other players gauff can rely on her speed and world class backhand to compensate but not against iga.

Gauff started the match absolutely belting her first serve and her groundstrokes, but by the second set her serve speed was way down. Unless it was a tactical shift, I actually think she just wore herself out playing at such a high intensity. Iga on the other hand can go all day.

In the long run, these matches are good for Coco bc when she finally beats Iga she’ll gain so much confidence from knowing she’s beaten one of the greatest wta players of all time. Iga is the perfect standard that all other players measure themselves to.

Iga appeared to be less than 100% (probably due to a cold she is carrying) but Coco didnt raise her game enough to take advantage - a learning for her in terms of the level she needs to reach. Lets see how Iga holds up physically in the final.

The bakery wasn't open today, but Iga improves to 6 - 0 vs Gauff. If Iga ends up facing Krejcikova in the final, there will be some irony, as she was also really sick when she faced Krejcikova in the Ostrava final last year (where Iga lost). I'm hoping she can power through this time, as she's been playing at a much higher level the last two weeks.

Definitely not. She is not top 15 ATG yet. Tennis has over 100 years of history. Even in open era she is not top 10 ATG yet. But when she will retired (i don't know when) she will definitely be top 10 ATG in women's tennis history. She still has lots of work to do.

@Andrew Webster not even close, Rybakina is not consistent, she at times has lost in first 2 rounds of the tournaments, whereas Swiatek is in the finals more than half of the time, and at least SF in the rest

Players are being PAID OFF to lose to Iga, too, or to Withdraw so she is rested and happy. I hope some stand their ground and even take the gamblers or bribers to court (if their lives are not threatened). She is good and I will never say against that, but it is almost too obvious one or both of my points are probably taking place, just as it is happening in the ATP and players being Paid Off to lose to novaq. I hope there comes a day sooner than later that at least a few filthy rich people see this probability and take it to the media so that the WTA, ATP, ITF and any state or country government involved in preventing cheating from happening (they cheated for Iga most of 2022 and so helped her with shot-making/confidence and motivation) do something. She should also be checked if she was actually born female: just check, that is all I am saying.

I ask, why do people scream loudly when the player is in the process of executing the point? Both the WTA and ATP should ban that, let's remember that tennis is a highly concentrated sport and if someone want to shout, there are other sports where they can do it, such as football, rugby, baseball, basketball, etc. IMHO!
Match up disadvantage - look up Federer vs Ferrer. Iga can do everything better than Coco (ok, maybe serve). But ultimately it will take Coco a colossal effort to beat Iga even when she is not playing well.
