The Jackson brothers said in a documentary that they were looking for a drummer and there was a specific Jackson's song, I think it was "shake your body down", that they would ask auditioning drummers to play. The story goes that they told drummers to play this song to have a laugh watching them struggle as the drum parts was recorded by combining two different drum parts together because it was too difficult for one man to play both at the same time.
Sugarfoot then says that he went in to audition, played the difficult part flawlessly, and he watched the brother's jaw drop and then start whispering to one another. He was worried that he did a bad job, but the brothers looked to him and told him that it was actually two people playing the drums in the record, to which sugarfoot says "really? I thought it was just one guy doing it"
From that point, he became the drummer for the Jacksons victory tour I believe, and later went to play for Michael when he went solo.

It's Jonathan who paid attention to Michael's move and changed up some parts of the drum beat in the original record, that's why Michael was impressed by him! ❤️

My favourite song was always " wanna be starting something " and still is. Watched you play that on Drumeo, im no drummer, but that bass drum footwork is bloody amazing on that. If Bruce Lee was still here hed be hitting the like just for the end part on this one🤝 Its great to watch someone with proper skill, not just drumming but anything. All the best from an old Scot🍻

He learned to play the instrument from talent, alone by ear. Such people are at a level where few understand them. Michael Jackson was a perfect artist with an extraordinary exigency, you could hardly satisfy all his desires. To be a drummer in a tour with over 80 shows in a year you need endurance. It's fabulous to listen all Sugarfoot interpretations. The man is more than a Swiss watch it is an Atomic clock. Good health Jonathan.
