      Hey there! I've not tested the Opticron Aurora binos, so I can say for sure. However, of all the $500 price point binos we have tested, those Athlon Cronus G2 were the best all around! Thanks for watching!

      They don't have an 8x42 Cronus G2 binoculars, only 10x42 and 15x56.
      If I were looking for a budget priced 8x I'd go for the Kowa BDII XD 8X32 wide angle or Genesis Prominar XD 8x33 if finances allowed.

    If you had to pick between the Tract Toric or the Athlon Cronus, which would you pick?? Love the review!

      Hey there Bracken! That's a great question. I'd probably take this Tract Toric UHD because of the wide angle, more forgiving eye box, the lighter weight (6.5oz lighter), and smaller form factor. The Tract does give up some edge to edge clarity and a little low light performance to the Athlon, but I'd still take the Tract if the extra cost wasn't an issue. Thanks for watching!

      I'd personally go for the one not made in China which is the Tract Toric if given the choice between them even though I'm somewhat of a fan of certain specific models of Athlon's Chinese made and Japanese made scopes. Especially when the prices aren't that far apart and Tract has special sales running 2 to 3 times a year beginning December and anytime during the summer or if you're in law enforcement or the military you get 15% off.
      TBH I was pretty bummed when Athlon switched from Japan over to China OEM for their current top of the line Cronus Gen 2 UHD spotter.
      As stated by Blackwood's Pursuit the Tract (Japan) made spotter is easier to get behind and I believe him. I have the Leupold SX5 Santiam version of the Tract Toric spotter and went that route because I managed to get a much better deal on the Leupold like new only used as a DEMO and at that time Tract didn't have any of their 25%-30% DEMOs in stock. It's clearer and easier to get behind than the Vortex Razor Gen 1 and 2 and Burris Signature HD spotters and also has one of the best lifetime warranty in the business and at least they are able to actually do repairs in house if ever needed.
      Assembled in the USA by Leupold using Japanese made parts sort of like some higher end Mavens.

    Excellent review!
    How would you compare it to the vortex viper hd 85mm?
    I’m considering an upgrade.

      Hey there! Thank you!
      This Tract Toric UHD will far outperform the Vortex Viper HD. It uses Schott glass and is going to perform much better in low light and image resolution. Thanks for watching!

      Hey there! Personally I'd take this over the Razor 85mm. Its got better low light performance and overall better resolution. Thanks for watching!

    So, what is a step up for the smoothness of focusing and quality higher magnification range with better optical quality than tract?

      @BackwoodsPursuit  Рік тому +1

      Hey there, Jon! I would say to step up from the Tract Toric, you'd want to go with the Kowa TSN 773. That one is a bit more expensive, but gives you a magnification range of 25-60, a wide angle eyepiece, better low light performance, and also saves you 8oz in weight. Here's a link to that one if you want to check it out: sandsarchery.com/collections/kowa-spotting-scopes/products/kowa-tsn-773-tsn-774-77mm-spotting-scope-with-25-60x?aff=2

      Meopta S2 20-70x82 and the Cabela's Euro version of the same scope often found as cheap as $1000. The Leupold SX5 Santiam version of this Tract Toric is also clearer with more forgiving eyebox and smoother controls. Chinese Athlon Cronus UHD Gen 2 spotter is also clearer.

      @@WeNeedChange3310 Yes I already compared them side by side and I do own Tract Toric scope as well originally had 3 then got rid of 2 since I found night and day clearer scopes for much cheaper half the price as the Tract Toric ELRs.

    Would you say the tractor toric is 10% worse than the kowa? Or more?

    • @BackwoodsPursuit
      @BackwoodsPursuit  Рік тому

      Hey there! I would say the Kowa 77 is more than 10% better all things considered. Edge to edge clarity is significantly better as well as low light performance. The Tract is an excellent spotting scope though! Thanks for watching!

    How would you compare this to leupolds santiam SX5 ? And which one would you prefer? Thanks for the video.

      Hey there! That's a great question. I haven't put them side by side, but have tested them each individually. They are very similar as they appear to be built off the same body, and have the objective size and magnification range. I'd say the Leupold has a little better edge to edge clarity, but the Tract is better in low light. Personaly, I'd probably take the Tract overall slightly though. Thanks for watching!

      @BackwoodsPursuit I appreciate the feedback. It's easy to find top tier if you have that kind of cash, so it's a toss-up between the two. I appreciate your content, thanks.

    Tract does some things exceptionally well but then make some very silly design decisions.
    Their rifle scope have those GOOFY tall turrets, which unlock and get even taller
    Spotter only 55x when they know they fighting against 60x from everyone else
    No arca
    Athlon Cronus is 33% less expensive, has great glass, dual focus, arca compatible, more magnification....unless you are obsessed with Schott glass this is a no-brainer IMO.
    Cronus ALL DAY!!!
