Thanks my birthday is actually today! I sold the DW kit when I left DW. It was a nice kit for sure. Sounded nice for sure, but took a little more effort to tune vs the Pearl gear I have. The finish on it was gorgeous. I’m going to order a masterworks kit one day and might have a finish close to that.

Quick question, what makes you choose pearl drums???
Yes they are!! I chose Pearl because they are easy to tune, I have access to ALL percussion (Latin percussion, concert percussion, electronics, etc) plus they are affordable. With the previous company I was with it, it’s kind of hard to say yeah go spend $12,000 on a kit that you can essentially get the same results for a fraction of the cost. Plus the hardware is killer!

What mics did you use for the recording? Everything sounds great.
Earthworks sr25 OH, on Toms and snare DM20s and I have a sr25 on the hi hat and under the snare as well. Inside kick mic is an audix d6 and the outside a AKG D12VR. Room mic, shure SM27

how does this drum set compare to Pearl Reference??
Maple gum from what I’ve experienced so far has a wider tuning range, also a little more tone because the hardware is not as heavy as the reference kit so the shell can resonate a little more. Also they are not as heavy as the reference kit. The reference kit is heavy.

@@ACWB3PRODUCTIONS yup!!! That’s why they stayed in my studio. I was not going to lug that kit around 😂 it sounds fantastic, but heavy for transportation. But if you’re looking to stay in shape, lug it around gig to gig. 😂
