    Hello friends! Today I’m bringing you another shelf stable meal-in-a-jar! When sealed with an oxygen absorber and kept out of direct light, these meals should last 8-10 years! All you have to do when you need a meal is pull one off the shelf, crack it open, JUST ADD WATER and after a brief cooking time, you’ll have a delicious meal ready for you and your family! These are perfect for emergencies- when the power's out, you don't want to open your fridge so having everything you need in a shelf stable format lets you fix a meal without getting into your fridge OR having to search around in the dark for all your ingredients!

    Also this/these methods are very helpful to realize what to buy/store (more or less of products) how to use items.
    Of course practice for using items!
    Not only do we do this..but we also make "weekly, 4 person boxes"! Already put together for possible evacuation situations. So think bags of meals/jar meals..then put together for a week in case of emergency..
    I have 16 pre-done boxes in a closet..all mostly uniform in sizing..so in case I had to leave..we could 1st load those in approximately 10 mins & know without a doubt that we had at minimum 4 months of food! Next I would take all of my 5 gallon storage.
    I do/did this..bc...I was worried that in a panic situation..where my pantry looks wonderful..but would I grab the most useful items in a panicked??
    I do actually use this for camping and such..with a few jars for storage possibly after use and the remainder is in mylar!
    In the middle of the woods is a pretty great way to practice this! I add extra items..like maybe some pre-made packaged mixes. Just thrown in.
    Extra spices or condiments!
    But I do love love your ideas for dishes in your vids! Always new and inventive 😊

    • @wickedprepared
      @wickedprepared  Рік тому

      I absolutely love the idea of the weekly boxes! Even if you didn't have time or space to take all the boxes, it would be easy to know what to grab and how far it would get you. Brilliant, thanks for sharing this! 🥰

    I've started watching your Meals in a jar videos recently. Getting into freeze dried meals as a quick way to make dinner after work.
    Questions - how long does your food last after opening the cans?
    - Where did you buy the shrimp and mango from
    - Is thrive life the only brand you use or are there others you can recommend?
    Tried some freeze dried chicken today and was impressed by the texture, it was hard to believe it wasn't fresh

    • @wickedprepared
      @wickedprepared  7 місяців тому +2

      It's definitely a great way to get a meal on the table quickly!
      Most freeze dried foods last about a year once opened. This can depend on things like storage conditions and humidity. The one notable exception i can think of is the pulled pork. The opened shelf life is considerably shorter around 3 weeks, so most people freeze the opened portion or put it immediately into jars or mylar, either in meals or just individual portions, and seal with oxygen absorbers. That said, like most foods I've had it last a lot longer than that. If you live in a humid climate you might want to take extra care with fruits you snack on dry because they can absorb a bit of that humidity from the air over time and lose that light crunchy texture we love so much.
      I get my mango from Thrive Life; it's so delicious! wickedprepared.thrivelife.com/freeze-dried-mango.html
      The shrimp i got from Thrive Life and it was also delicious but unfortunately it was discontinued and is no longer available. 😕
      I pretty much get all my freeze dried foods from Thrive, they really are the best in the business for quality! This is a post where i list many of the sources i use for different ingredients: m.facebook.com/groups/jarasmealsinajar/permalink/874869270694273/?mibextid=Nif5oz
      The meats are actually what bring a lot of people to the world of freeze dried food... looking for a better option than canned for their meats and proteins- then they discover all the other benefits and are hooked!
      I hope this has been helpful for you!

      @@wickedprepared Thanks for the advice. I took a look at the January specials and the price isn't bad for the pantry sampler. I was looking into mylar bags the other day, bought 4 pouches from mountain house to try and ended up loving the beef stroganoff and chicken & dumplings. Was thinking of getting a #10 can and splitting portions into the mylar bags.

    • @jerrilynball5143
      @jerrilynball5143 Рік тому

      Many hardware and grocery stores have them. Were hard to get during covid bc so many ppl were prepping, or growing food and canning. I already had a lot but needed more. Finding new lids was a problem. I tried everywhere and finally got some at Etsy online. I had the best luck and price from Walmart. Got most online bc stores were out of stock for awhile. Also, I liked having them delivered. 🙂

    • @wickedprepared
      @wickedprepared  Рік тому +1

      Hi Rob, I almost always get my jars at Walmart, like Jerrilyn says they tend to have the best prices. I have gotten jars from local hardware stores and Ace Hardware as well for uncommon sizes I couldn't find anywhere else, or if Walmart was out. I've used coupon codes there that made it actually a pretty good deal. Tractor supply usually sells them as well. I've taken to getting my extra lids in bulk from Azure, both of these brands are very good and the Superb brand is actually made in the USA: www.azurestandard.com/shop/search/dome?a_aid=e7c0cebeaf
