      Thank you. The underlying music blocks having copyright issues with the music from the casino. And, yes, luck is very much part of the game. The best way to maximize that luck is constant practice on a simulator that warns on mistakes.

    Why not hold open ended straight at 8:39?

    • @johnsworldofvideopoker
      @johnsworldofvideopoker  2 роки тому

      If you hold the open ended straight, then the only thing that you can hit is a straight. If you hold the small pair then you can hit: JoB, 2 pair, 3 of a kind, a full house, or Quad 6’s. You have so many ways to win with a small pair, than you do by being restricted to just a straight. With the small pair, you’re not only choosing an option that gives you the most chances to win, but the wins (such as full house or a Quad) pays you even more than just a straight. Good question. Unfortunately my local only has $1and $5 8/5 bonus poker. The next steps down are .25 & .50 denom 7/5. With a $500 bankroll which would you recommend? Plus the machines are different being one only goes up to $1 max and the other is $5 only. Ugh. My go to game is two pair or better Joker poker. It pays 98.59%. Progressive on top and 4000 coins for 5OAK. This month I hit 5 5OAK and 4 Royals on a bank of 4 machines. One day I hit 2 royals in about 5 minutes. It definitely is cyclical. You can get really lucky and then go weeks with zip and pipp as they say. I have been trying more BP and have a vegas trip 4/29-5/3 with a bankroll and a serious outlook for it. There’s better numbers guys out there tgan me, that’s for sure. The good news is that if you download a simulator (WinPoker by Zamzow) to your phone and practice with it (set it to warn on mistakes) you’ll quickly start to see where your mistakes are and rid yourself of them over time. Then, as you play in the casino, you’ll find that your bankroll lasts longer (due to your improved play). It’ll only be a matter of, practice and time, and eventually the Royal Flushes will come. The simulator practice is crucial to winning.🌎

      I prefer to tell it like it is. And just as there are winning sessions, there are breaking even sessions, and there are losing sessions. But no winning session lasts forever, and no losing session lasts forever. And just as sure that a player will have losing sessions, it’s just as certain that winning sessions will follow once again. Winning & losing is cyclical. Just as the rise and fall of the stock market is cyclical. It’s not linear. It’s a circle! There’s the top of the circle, and as you go round and round, and there’s a bottom of the circle. But once it bottoms out, it can only go up again. Round and round and round. Win/loss, win/loss, win/loss. So the key is to have the bets big enough when one is winning, and the wagers small enough when one is losing, to keep the odds that we’re all up against, at bay. It’s a challenging balancing act that has it’s share of heartbreak and thrills. Just like the stock market, just like a sports game, just like life itself. Either way, it goes, I’m going to give it my all. Win, Lose, or Draw!😁🙌🏻🙌🏻🌎

    Hi John,
    When dealt ACE, King and Jack all unsuited on Bonus Poker, why do you only hold the King and Jack? Other players also confirmed it, but I didn’t know why it is done. Why doesn’t ACE King get held?

    • @johnsworldofvideopoker
      @johnsworldofvideopoker  2 роки тому +1

      In video poker the highest card in the hand dictates your card selections. If you were to hold the Ace it limits the amount of straights you can get because it is at the top or the bottom of the deck. So picking a Jack/King, or Queen/King, or Jack/Queen allows for more straights to hit while also giving the player shots at Quads with either face card. Holding all 3 cards destroys any shot at getting any Quads while limiting access to more straights, so you always dump the Ace in BP. There are times too that when there is a 10 and 2 face cards, where you always dump the 10 when it’s part of the 3 cards in question. But rather than trying to memorize all the rules, it’s best to constantly practice on a simulator that “warns on mistakes” (10-15 minutes daily) and in that way, you’ll see the same mistakes over & over, & over again until you absorb the “right holds” over time. Then when you’re in the casino, you’ll remember the correct holds and have better sessions leading to more money for you as well. Great question. Practice, Practice, Practice!😁🙌🏻🙌🏻🌎

    Greetings from Torrance! Whew! That sure was a battle! Everyone loves to see a win, but I learn a lot from the losses. I am always looking for patterns or "moods" of the machines. When I hit my lower limit, I will cash out and go find another machine. Isn't it great to play with the casino's money? That is probably the biggest lesson I learned from you. Once you are up over your initial amount, you are now playing with their money, not yours. My wins have always been on the casino's dime. Not mine. The Quads taste even sweeter now. Thank you sir! BTW- Thursday and Friday were 97 degrees in Torrance, today I needed a jacket to stay warm. Crazy weather!

    • @johnsworldofvideopoker
      @johnsworldofvideopoker  2 роки тому +1

      I'm so accustomed to playing (or seeing my friends play) high denomination coin that I barely noticed that this was a loss, especially since the casino paid for half of it! And also too, because on high denomination coin, even a mere straight pays $200 on a $10 coin denomination machine. So for all the play that I got on this session (2 videos worth) it feels like I came out ahead over the casino. In just a few hits on a $10 coin machine of 2 pair, Jacks or Better, or 3 of a kind, this money will be back in my pocket again. The odds are all the same on an 8/5 BP pay table whether you play a high denomination machine or a small denomination machine. You can win just as easily on a $5 coin machine as you can win a 5c coin machine. A $5 bill is just a large nickle. $25 is just a giant quarter. A $50 coin is just a large 50¢ piece. It's all relative.😁🌎

    Hi John. Your bankroll management works! I've been pitting it into practice and although it seems opposite of the way most players handle it, it really works, and really well with a little luck! (Most people never take a chance when they get low, and push it a few hands) Friday at my local, starting at 50 cent coin, it only took a few hands to see things were really rolling. Went to $1 and hit quads on Kings and 7s. From there, I was able to play for almost an hour and a half just going up and down with the ebb and flow. It was awesome. From 60 in free play with 100 green cash, I left almost 300 up. I probably could have stayed and played more, but I had plans for the money, and that made it even sweeter. Thank you again for all the tips and commentary. I am working on more advanced strategy on the simulator now too. 😎

    Hi John, I've got to say, having been a long-time VP enthusiast, It's actually refreshing to see a pro like yourself make mistakes here and there, and more important, that you don't kick yourself for it. You just acknowledge the mistake and keep on playing. It's a game that's incredibly easy to make fast judgement errors, but that's what adds to the challenge...just like golf, which can be played alone...you're constantly striving to improve your game/play.

    • @johnsworldofvideopoker
      @johnsworldofvideopoker  2 роки тому +8

      Thank you for your generous words, John. And you’re correct in your assessment on how to approach video poker, as well as, the great game of golf (I love them both). The point you make in your comments is exactly what I’m trying to convey about video poker with my channel. Perfect play doesn’t necessarily equate to hitting a Royal Flush & making mistakes doesn’t stop you from hitting a Royal Flush either. And that’s the point. Practice on a simulator that “warns on mistakes” to minimize your errors and also to give yourself a better chance (but just do your best) mistakes & all. There is an element of luck in all of this and from what I’ve seen (with the 37 Royal Flushes that I’ve hit) is that you don’t have to play perfectly to win. In fact, you can win big money in spite of your errors. I’m currently in a tiny slump lately, but it’s nothing that can’t be overcome with consistent play. Although, I prefer winning….I know it’s “just a numbers” game. I stay within my budget, I know the probabilities and what comes around, goes around. When you’re up, you could just as easily be down, and when you’re down, you could just as easily have it turn around for you with just a few lucky hits. If all else fails, stop playing for a while and “relish” practicing on a simulator that “warns on mistakes” . Visualize your self becoming a better player and weeks (or month’s later), go give it a shot again with your new and improved skill set on low volatility games (9/6 JoB & 8/5 BP) and a 1,000 coin bankroll. In the fullness of time, the good to great wins will come back once again.🙌🏻🙌🏻🌎

    Great video as always John! Have you ever held the proper cards rather than 3 to a royal (like at 4:33) and would have hit the royal? Just happened to me this weekend and it certainly didn't feel the best, but I'm not too upset as I held the proper cards and 3 to a royal is 1 in 1,081.

    • @johnsworldofvideopoker
      @johnsworldofvideopoker  2 роки тому +2

      Thank you for your comments. Even though the Jacks were the proper hold in this case, I know exactly what you mean when the required cards to complete the Royal come out on the re-deal and would have hit for the big win. That has probably happened to me at least 10 times over the years. You’re playing perfect strategy & you don’t hold for the Royal (because it isn’t the correct play) and the Royal would have hit! I’ve seen it happens to my buddies, Slotmassacre, Curtis, Bigkats, and Doc’s Gambling many times. Then again, when you do hold the proper cards (like 2 to the Royal: 1 in 16,215) and it hits! So it’s all good. But I know exactly how that feels! That happens quite a bit on 8/5 Bonus Poker! Take care my friend.🙌🏻🙌🏻🌎

      Hi, Wendi, I love your inquisitive nature! You would be so much fun to play with in the casino. Video Poker is a thinking person’s game, and you ask very good questions. It’s so much fun to stop and think about interesting hands. This particular hand does have some intrigue and gives one pause to contemplate it. It’s actually pretty to look at too! Which way do we go? Well, the straight flush is is in sequence but it would be quite a stretch to get precisely the exact 2 cards (of the the same suit even) to replace those two 7’s. There is actually a rule for this in video poker for this choice: “Always hold a small pair in preference to any 3 cards of a straight flush”. Whenever you are faced with only that choice, the small pair will always be the correct choice. Now, it comes down to the other choice. Do we hold the small pair, or do we we go for the straight, which is open on either end? This choice is the perfect one to illustrate the “power” of a “small pair”. If we hold for the straight, we limit ourselves to only getting a straight. But if we were to hold the small pair, we are given the “keys to the kingdom”. The small pair leads to so many more possibilities: JoB, 2 Pair, Trips, Full House, and Quads vs. “just a straight”. That’s what makes Bonus Poker so powerful too (especially on high coin denominations). The small pair leads to “getting paid” on the all important 2 pair hand. 2 pair is one of the most frequently hit hands in video poker and that means that the 9/6 JoB & 8/5 Bonus Poker player is frequently “making money”when playing the low volatility games. Those frequently hit 2 pair wins add up to quite a bit. This is largely dismissed by players of the volatile games who prefer the “thrill” of the rarely hit Quads w/kicker hands as opposed to “making money” consistently on 8/5 Bonus Poker. Can Bonus Poker be relatively boring? Yes! Can Bonus Poker be highly profitable (especially on high denomination coin)? Oh Hell Yes!!! There’s your answer, Wendi. I hope one day we meet and get to play together. You’re so much fun!🙌🏻🙌🏻🌎

I hope you have access to 8/5 Bonus Poker in your local market and that you’re able to practice on a simulator that “warns on mistakes” to keep errors at a minimum. Hi John--Can I ask you a question? (I usually play double double bonus poker so I'm not as familiar with Bonus Poker strategy)--At the 13:40 mark you had a 3-4-5 of hearts and a 6 of diamonds--in other words you had three cards to a straight flush and also four cards to an open ended straight. You held the 3-4-5 of hearts straight flush draw. I think I would have intuitively kept the 6 of diamonds also for the open ended straight draw. Would my play have been incorrect--and if so would it have been a big or small error? I appreciate the info--Thank you!

      Great question and you’re so right! I missed that 6♦️!!!😂 It really pays to give pause and think about every hand before making our selections. I think when the 3 cards to the Straight Flush rolled-out, I just quickly glanced over at the J♦️, gave no thought to the 6♦️(that was ”staring me down”) and I just instantly went for the 3 card Straight Flush! You’re absolutely correct in holding for the Straight in either, DDB or BP. First comes the Straight, then the Straight Flush, and then the Jack. The Straight is the correct hold in both cases, and I gave the casino a whopping 17.1% extra advantage over me by my missing that 6♦️😬! Thank you for pointing that out. I need to be more focused and thoughtful when playing. Good Call.😁🙌🏻🙌🏻🌎

They’re not serious sessions for me, unless I’m settled in with a 1,000 coin bankroll and “ready to do battle”. Now, had Aces hit or a bunch of 2’s, 3’s, or 4’s, a few straight flushes (while on the $1 or $2 coin level), I may have cashed it in for use as an added buffer on a much larger more serious bankroll for use later on high denomination play. That would more than likely be a $3,000-$5,000 bankroll and I would pick out an appropriate sized multi-denomination coin machine housing $2, $5, $10, & $20 coin denominations. I would then be taking shots at $20,000, $40,000, and $80,000 Royals. Chances are, while doing that; (if I were to hit just an $8,000 Royal), I would take that entire $8,000 win, and look at it as if it were “free play” to be used on large denomination coin machines. I would immediately get on a $25, $50, and $100 coin denomination machine with it and dump that whole $8,000 on going for the: $100,000, $200,000, and $400,000 Royals. When I have free play on the lower denominations, anything that I win (including the Royal) is going to be recycled in (albeit on a higher coin denomination) to leverage whatever I won into an even bigger win on higher coin denominations. If I were to lose the $8,000 Royal that the casino “gave to me”. It’s not out of my bank account so I could care less. I’m a big game hunter when it comes to house money than can be exploited for outrageous Royals “essentially for free”. I rarely use my own money when hunting big Royals. I use house money instead. BTW, you can refuse “playing off” the hand pay jackpots. You just tell them that you’d rather not and just cash out.😁🌎

      @@johnsworldofvideopoker I see your point. My locals have really lousy free play awards. A 90 yr old woman has been playing the same 4 old school slots for at least 20 years. She might go through $3000 a night. She hardly ever hits anything. Her husband left her over $20M. Her free play is only $50 a week!! I can only step up to $2 coin or multi-line max $1 coin. I play very close to home. I used to go to the bigger casinos with friends. Sadly, they have all passed. I would need CPR hitting a $100000 royal. I look forward to your next monster royal.

    Another mistake, really???? So why are you going 100 miles. The only reason i can even see why your going so fast for comps. Because video poker you got to spend twice as much as slots. Which you mess up, BECAUSE YOUR GOING TO FAST . So what's the point ????

    • @johnsworldofvideopoker

      Yes, I sort of got caught up in the moment playing video poker with my two friends, Curtis & Skip, sitting right next to me. They both play very fast, and without realizing it, my own play started to speed-up, as a result. And you’re quite right, speed leads to more errors, most definitely. But, as with all my videos, I let the sessions stand on their own, warts and all. I’ve never met a video poker player who has never made a single mistake, or one who will never make a mistake in the future. In fact, mistakes are an integral part of every player’s game. We all make them, and we will all continue to make them for as long as anybody plays the game. Perfect play doesn’t guarantee a winning session, just as mistakes, don’t guarantee a losing session. That’s the essence and the beauty, of the game; its randomness. No matter “how” one plays the game, the player can still win or lose. Love it!😉🌎

    I noticed you chose the 3,4,5 of hearts vs. going with the off suit 6 for the straight, is that the correct play? Sometimes I’ll go for the straight other times I’ll go for the flush or straight flush.

      Thank you for making that observation. Someone else just recently pointed that out to me as well. Here was my response and your answer.
      “Great question and you're so right! I missed that 6♦️!!!😂 It really pays to give pause and
      think about every hand before making our selections. I think when the 3 cards to the Straight Flush rolled-out, I just quickly glanced over at the J♦️and gave no thought to the 6♦️(that was "staring me down") and I just instantly went for the 3 card Straight Flush! You're absolutely correct in holding
      for the Straight in either, DDB or BP. First comes the Straight, then the Straight Flush, and then the Jack. The Straight is the correct hold in both cases, and I gave the casino a whopping 17.1% extra advantage over me by my missing that 6♦️! Thank you for pointing that out. I need to be more focused and thoughtful when playing. Good Call”.

    Miss that place. Pre-COVID I stayed for my birthday weekend and hit 4 aces with a kicker playing dollars, switched to $2 and hit a few 2-3-4 with a kicker so I decided to play $500 on the $5 and hit the royal on the second hand. All on the same machine. Needless to say it was an amazing weekend.

      Yes, that’s the way it goes at times, you win some, you lose some!😂 Now, it may have turned out to be a great session with a 1,000 coin bankroll, but we’ll never know. The machine gave me a good run (in the sense that every hand is a shot at the Royal theoretically) so I felt that I got a good run for the little money that I put in. That’s what I like about free play, you win some money up front (such as Quad 2’s in this case) for $200 and I got a lot of hands out of it on house money and on some of my own. If I lose the session, I walk. But sometimes, free play turns into a 1 hour, 2 hour or 3 hour session. When that happens, at 1,000 hands an hour, the player has a fair shot at the Royal, and there are many, many, times where that has worked out for me. Either way is fine with me. I’m just putting in the grind. Sooner or later that grind will pay off and I will catch it on video. About a month ago at Pechanga, I put $250 in the machine on a 25¢, 50¢, $1, $2 coin denomination. It was 8:30 at night. I won $3,000 after 9 straight hours of play. I left the machine at 5:30 the next morning! I didn’t film it because I didn’t bring a tripod and just figured it would be a “quick session”. From now on, I’ll film every session no matter what, because you never, never, know! Thanks for hanging tough with me Matt!😁🙌🏻🙌🏻🌎

I have to assume nobody in California watches my channel and I take it for granted that no one in the United States has ever heard of Pechanga or even knows where it is. People in Belgium watch my channel. And when do they do, it’s my goal that they don’t overlook coming to Pechanga if they ever want to gamble while in Southern California. Now THEY know.😁🌎

      Hi, Ma Kittle, so nice to hear from you! Thank you for liking my intro. If you & Jeremy were out here, you'd certainly be in my videos too! I'm a bit rusty in my playing lately & I make way too many mistakes. So, I really must get back to simulator practice. Ironically, I've gotten away from practice since I started my channel, but there's plenty of hours in the day, so I have no excuse for it. However, even with mistakes, luck has a lot to do with it, and sometimes that's enough. The weather is getting really nice out here in California & Nevada. from April to June is one of my favorite times of the year to be in Vegas. Hope to see you and Jeremy again soon. Take care.❤🌎

    Hey John, I appreciate the honest portrayal of the game. One of my struggles is when to move on to another machine, I respect you and the group you play with, any thoughts?

    • @johnsworldofvideopoker
      @johnsworldofvideopoker  2 роки тому +1

      Yes….good question, Chuck! As players, we’re always stuck between a “rock & a hard place”. When the going is, “good to great”, we could be on the machine all night long and be asking ourselves at 4:45 the following morning (after an all-night bender), “When’s this hot streak gonna end? I’m tired and gotta go to bed? Or even worse, “I gotta go back to work!”. By the same token, if we’ve dumped money into a machine and we’re chasing that loss, we feel like we might get up and then someone sits down right away on “our machine” and hits a Royal Flush,! “Our Royal Flush”!🤣 If a machine starts to turn and just goes stone-cold, I’ll move over right away, and keep moving over (if necessary) until I find a machine that’s frequently hitting the 2 pair hand. The essence of 8/5 Bonus Poker is the 2 pair hand. If that isn’t hitting regularly, then chances are, our bankroll will run out before anything else significant hits. Now, all the machines are randomly shuffling the cards 24/7, whether someone is playing the machine of not. Who knows? Maybe the empty machine right next to you is spitting out Quad Aces, Straight Flushes, and Royal Flushes randomly, but no one is playing the machine to ever know it. So, don’t hold any particular loyalty to any given machine, even your favorite one. It’s all just random occurence. On my free play excursions, I’ll only bring a single $100 Bill to subsidize the free play. When that $100 Bill is gone, then I’m gone. These are hit or miss free play redemption sessions only. I have a friend who really does well grinding the free play and then leaves immediately once it’s gone, or he’s up $200-$400, or he hits a Royal. (There’s always next week’s “free play) so to speak. That’s just an arbitrary free play session only” discipline. But he’s already hit 4 Royals this year doing just that! Also, if you’re up $100, or $200, or $300, you may just want to leave any way, and save that “get rich quick” session bankroll and add it to a much larger bankroll when you’re coming back to do a more serious 1,000 coin bankroll session. Especially a serious session, where you’re going to “work the denominations” going up & down (in the coin denominations) to preserve the bankroll long enough to have the 1, 2, 3, & 4 to the Royal hands convert to a Royal. 90% of my lifetime Royals, have hit in the first 15 to 60 minute range. 1.5 hours is more than enough time to hit a royal usually. I’ve only hit 2 Royals (on different occasions) at the 5 hour mark! I’d say give yourself 1.5 hours for a “do or die” in the casino session, and then leave either: up, down or even. Over time, you’ll learn to adjust to that discipline and probably have more winning sessions and less losses because of it. Of course, anything can happen, but usually a structured “escape from the casino” plan is better than chasing losses. I actually look forward to hit and run sessions and then leave. You’ll find contentment in just practicing on a simulator afterwards knowing that you’re getting, better and better, before going back to the casino to try your luck and test your skills. Any time a machine feels like it’s just taking your money, just get up and keep hitting different machines until you land on one that is rolling. It’s all random. But once in a while, we land on a machine or two, that’s hitting Grand Slams all night long!😁🙌🏻🙌🏻🌎
