Great shout on the Wheel in Space 3D Fan release….I thought it was really good but the BBC immediately pushed back on it which makes me think it’s the next official 2D animation after Savages.
2024 was a better year for announcements than the 60th anniversary year. Three Collection sets and Savages announced. We also got a new series which ok was not the best but had some good moments. All in all I was happy.
I agree. Even thpugh it hasnt all hit for me with the new stuff, the 60th brought the show back to public attention. The season sets have been very good and I enjoyed Celestial Toymaker and The Wheel in Space animation. Still yet to watch The War Games in Colour. Looking forward to s7 and The Savages (which is a great story btw).
Great review, Prowl. Big Finish was also a mixed bag this year. I suppose the most momentous was an epic 12 part Seventh Doctor story which told his "Last Day" and led straight into the TV movie. It was rather hard to follow though and required too detailed a knowledge of previous Seventh Doctor releases to appreciate it fully. Unusually this year my favourites were two where the Doctors were played not by the original actors: "Operation Werewolf" - the adaptation of a lost story" from the Second Doctor era, and featuring Fraser Hines, Wendy Padbury and Michael Troughton in a six-parter that would have slotted comfortably into season six. Set in 1944 France, involving a Nazi plot to invade England using teleportation technology. And "Revolution in Space", another six-part story featuring Tim Trealor and Sadie Miller in a traditional Third Doctor season 11 tale, designed to be the third of a loose "In Space" trilogy that started with "Colony" and "Frontier".
@@robertgairey5266 that second doctor story sounds awesome, love werewolf stories. Listened to the paradox planet, a review is dropping late next month for it.
@@AnotherScifiGuy Great, I look forward to watching the review when it drops. :) I should say though - no werewolves in Operation Werewolf. It's just the name given to the SS's invasion plans - the story plays out much like Enemy of the World, with no monsters, but a wartime thriller with experiments into teleportation, brainwashing, spies and double-cross. It's adapted from scripts originally submitted to the production team back in 1967 - by Douglas Camfield!
Great review as always. I actually think 2024 was miles better than 2023. 2023 was barren for most of it - the specials were fun but unfilling. The season was good too, even if you weren't super into it, it's a lot more full than just a trilogy of specials. The collections are great, Big Finish was better and we even got the Proms. Actually quite a big fan of 2024 so far and hopefully 2025 is just as good if not better
Season 25 one of the best Collection sets ever released if you look at content, cover art, enhanced effects etc.
