Grandma’s Pasta Fazool Recipe - How to make Pasta e Fagioli

- Mom walks us through Grandma’s Pasta Fazool recipe, which is how most Italian-Americans say pasta and beans. Most Italians pronounce it as Pasta e Fagioli, but no matter how you say it, Pasta Fagioli is a wonderful stick-to your-rib pasta dish. Our mother shows us how to make pasta e fagioli as our grandmother cooked it. There are many variations of this pasta with beans recipe, but I’m sure you will enjoy this one. Very simple to prepare and made of only a few ingredients. Great anytime, but especially comforting on a brisk winter evening.

I love how MOM ruled the kitchen! And she barely raised her voice above a whisper… a true boss
Yes, an authentic Italian American version of pasta fazool ! I'm amazed that many people think they're eating pasta fazool from that famous chain restaurant when all they're eating is some weird chili concoction. Your mom's is the real deal BB guys and miss seeing her in your new videos.
Thanks! We miss Mom, too!
I miss seeing your Mom...she always enjoyed helping you cook!!
It’s definitely not the same without her.
You little Mom is the boss just like my Mom was
Yes she is
Can I stop by? Love mom!!❤
Dom with the salt! 😂
God bless Momma. She's adorable
She reminds me of my mother and all my friends' mothers. Nothing like an Italian mother.
Your mom makes me think of mine and those Mama's and Nona's in Astoria who used to love me because I had a 6'4" frame challenging them to fill it up! Not only did they fill me up, but they also taught me how to make the dishes. By 14, I was an early team member for Holiday feasts. First, I'd peel all the potatoes and chop the celery and onions at home, then I was on Slice and Chop duty at my friends' houses. I loved helping with the fish on Christmas eve. Often, since they knew my "Nanny" was a great cook, they'd send a dish from their home to ours as a thanks for my help. Then I'd always bring a surprise from our German kitchen for their dinner. This reminds me of those days when we made a community by working together and sharing our food and culture with wonderful people. Plus, we gained an appreciation of good, different, and GARLIC! And Cherry Peppers, too!
Will def made after holiday..bet its off the charts good. And yes Progresso is only way to go..ty
Enjoy!
This is the recipe my mom used to make us and to me the most authentic of all the ones I’ve looked at. Delicious and simple.
@@mariecincotta1926 agreed ❤️
There are so many different recipes for pasta e fagioli. I make it with pancetta to start. I’ll try your recipe. Your mom is sweet and I liked the way you interacted with her with a lot of love and respect.
You are so right. There are many versions of this dish.
I’m like Dom with the pepper. Pepper the F out of it 😆 so nice to see your mom assisting with the recipe
Thanks!
Looks soo good! Can't wait to try this. I sure miss my mom and yours. We have our memories. Thanks again.

You brother are wonderful. I love the way you call your mother Ma. So respectful. I love seeing her in the kitchen supervising. She is beautiful. Thank you for bringing me a piece of home.
It felt like home to me too ! Brought up Italian in New Haven , Ct. You could almost smell it ! 😁👍✝️💕🇮🇹
I like a little rosemary in there,,,adds a nice flavor
My mother taught me early on, always use the leaves from the celery. That’s where all the flavor is. Exactly the way we make it & say it!
Thank you for watching
You are right Chef Dom, "there is nothing like the smell of garlic".
Great! Italian cuisine is truly simple, economical, and made with a few ingredients adapted through countless regional recipes, but with some simple tricks and underlying principles. Learning Italian cooking is really a great investment of time!
Oh yum yum yum guys! Hi Mama...gonna make this today! It's 8 degrees here in Vermont💨
Omg! That’s cold! Enjoy your FazooL!
Great recipe Mom and sons. God bless all of you. ❤

Wonderful!
You guys rock! Love your videos! Daddy Jack would be proud!

Growing up in Brooklyn, my Italian neighbor used to always tease me by saying, "I'm going to make some pasta fazool." Funny thing, she never made it, despite mastering an abundance of Italian recipes. I always thought pasta fazool was some type of mystery. LOL.
That’s funny! Appreciate you sharing your story. Happy Thanksgiving!
Hi guys. My mom made this dish using the ditali and broken spaghetti too. She used all the unused portions of leftover packs of different pastas. It was a surprise every time 🎉
That is awesome!
I was waiting for Dom to sneak in some pepperoncino lol, it's almost like I make it, only my base I start by sautéing pancetta, still a hearty delicious dish to come home to. Great job boys, hugs to momma!
Thanks Salvatrice! I’ve used bacon in the past but never pancetta. I’ll have to try that. Enjoy your weekend!
I do the same with either pancetta or guanciale to add a meat flavor to the base. I also puree a can of beans to thicken and use a little less pasta. A great “cold weather” dish.
Really loved watching you guys cooking .
Thanks so much!
My favorite soup 🍲
First time to watch this channel but I'm impressed with your recipe, you guys have such sweet and pretty mom ,I have two sons I can imagine me and my son at that age ,I hope they will be good as well 💙😊

Thank you for the very kind words. We enjoyed cooking with mom. Have a great weekend!
I thought it was funny adding the spaghetti in with the ditalini,, that would have been done during the depression, or just hard times, when moms would use whatever they had !!! If you didn't have enough ditalini,,no problem, add some spaghetti !!!
Loved the show guy's and you mom !!! Two good sons !!! God Bless😁👍✝️💕🇮🇹✊️
That is so true about the leftover pasta during the depression. Mom wouldn’t let us make it any other way. She wanted the spaghetti. 😂Appreciate you watching!
No problem guy's !!! I felt like I was with family ! Luv mom,,,she's the best ! Got you guys on alert so I don't miss anything !!! God Bless guy's ! 😁✌️✝️🇮🇹💕💕💕
...so glad I stumbled on your YT channel. The cooking is spot on, as my grandmothers, aunts, and mother prepared these recipes just like or very very similar to the way youse guys do the cooking.
My grandmother made a dish using chicken & stock , escarole, fresh grated parmesan cheese, she also did a dish using white clam sauce , spaghetti and broccoli. Do either of these ring any bells? I live in south Texas, 40+ years now; my family lived in White Plains, Rye, Bronx, Brooklyn Queens by way of Naples and Sicily. Anyway guys, what a treat for my ears and eyes!
We appreciate you watching our channel. Lots more recipes to come!
Chicken stock, escarole and grated cheese sounds like some of the ingredients of Italian Wedding Soup.
Hey fellas! That's my favorite Italian dish. I've made it with fresh cranberry beans dunno if you've ever made it with them they are delicious. See if the pork store or the grocery stores have it in stocks. Buon appetite
Hi John! We’ll need to check it out. Thanks!
V E R Y V E R Y G O O D !!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you 😊
Looks so yum!
Thank you Topper Chef!
I am going to make this sometime in the future. I have made Pasta Fazool before and I am going to make it like you all did. By the way, we cannot get Progresso beans here in Indiana either.
Let us know how it turns out.
Amazing recipe love it thanks for sharing just love the recipe looks so delicious ❤😍
Thanks Zunsar
I usually don't like it this red, but it looks delicious. My mother made it white a lil tomato "for color"and then sliced hot cherry peppers on top.
That sounds great 👍
Try it@@BrooklynBrothersCooking
I use pancetta too , mama is eating well !
I like pancetta in it also, but you know mom. Can’t deviate from the recipe.. Yeah she’s eating great.
Hmmmmm good
Thanks Donald!!!
Thank you so much for watching
Two questions- 1) No onions? 2) does the liquid from the beans go in too?
No onions and yes, use the bean liquid
how much pasta of each?
A total of one pound
We don’t have a food processor, would I use crushed tomatoes or tomato sauce? What would you recommend?
Not a problem. You can use crushed tomato.
Gramma use to make this when she had a little leftover sauce .
Thanks Ms Kris!
Do the beans need to be soaked overnight before cooking?.
No, not for canned beans
@@BrooklynBrothersCooking Does the water need to be drained from the canned cannellini beans when you put it in the sauce?
We never drain the liquid from the can
Very nice. i bet your mom used those wooden spoons on you guys growing up lol.
She sure did lol
@@BrooklynBrothersCooking so did mine!
We are going live this Sunday, May 19 at noon central time!
My mother used to put the skin braciole in it..not beef not pork....the pig skin. The best
Yes, Our mom cooks the skin in gravy.
I love that also
is there a link to the recipe
No, but I just added the full recipe into the description of the video.
Awesome thank you for that😊
Boss man was from Buffalo. Called it pasta fazoole or for the Texas folk “wedding soup”
2 28 oz cans? I will try this, I use only use one can?
Hi Tammy! Yes, one can works.
@@BrooklynBrothersCooking Thanks! Yours had 2 though right?
@@Tammydoll625 yes because we made 2 pounds of pasta
🔥🔥🔥🔥🇺🇸
We call it pasta fazool 😄
No Locatelli cheese sprinkled on top?
Oh yeah!
Prefer to keep the pasta separated from the beans so pasta does not soak up all the liquid. Serve with paramasean, raw diced onion, black and red pepper
It's Fazool or....... You know 💀
